We cannot, however, attribute the fracturation among Christ believers to the historical circumstances, for Christianity had internal problems since the very beginning. We choose to approach the issue since the end of the first century, when all kinds of conflicts began to spread, that would eventually cause the scissions that fractured the unity of the Christian faith, and the consequences of that, to this day. We tried to observe the tread of the ecumenical walk, trough the light of the baptism sacrament, and therefore we investigate the meander that involves the baptismal sacrament starting on its theological-biblical principles; the distinction between baptism in other cultures and the religious meaning of water in paganism and Judaism; the sacrament of baptism and different baptismal events that happened throughout the Christian history. When analysing baptism s theological-biblical principles that per passed its historical walk, the progress that happened with the Second Vatican Council; the intense and arduous activity developed by protestant Churches that culminated in innumerous terms, agreements and other formalized instruments aiming a continuous approximation among the different religious confessions, paving the way for our current situation. Discussing the ecumenical dialogue that involves Christian churches and the inter-religious dialogue that happens between various religious traditions of varied faith, it s evident the need of effective actions to the building of global peace. The presence of attempts around a religious dialogue expresses the search of a relationship between Christians and believers of others religions, or religious confessions. However, such gestures were and are marked with negative actions, fraught with intolerance, which only aggravated the spirits, and leading, most of the time, to fratricidal conflicts. / A presente dissertação discute o Ecumenismo como a busca de unidade entre os cristãos, já que num momento da história essa unidade foi fracionada. Não se pode atribuir a um determinado momento da história a quebra da unidade entre aqueles que foram selados pelo batismo na pessoa do próprio Cristo. Desde os tempos mais primevos do cristianismo problemas internos e externos marcaram sua trajetória. A abordagem é feita desde o final do primeiro século, quando heresias de toda ordem começaram a propagar-se. As heresias semearam em campo fértil, as grandes cisões que fracionaram a unidade da Igreja até os dias de hoje. Buscou-se observar o palmilhar da caminhada ecumênica, à luz do sacramento do batismo. Nesta visão se perscruta os meandros que envolvem o sacramento batismal a partir de seus princípios teológico-bíblicos. Mostra-se a distinção entre os batismos em outras culturas e o sentido religioso da água no paganismo e no judaísmo; o sacramento do batismo e os diversos eventos batismais que se sucederam ao longo da história cristã, e comentários sobre quem pode ministrar o batismo, sua necessidade, e sobre a matéria e forma do sacramento em questão. Quando da análise de seus princípios teológico-bíblicos, perpassou-se sua caminhada histórica, o impulso acontecido com o Concílio Vaticano II, a intensa e árdua atividade desenvolvida pelas Igrejas protestantes, que redundou nos inúmeros termos, acordos e outros instrumentos formalizados com vistas a uma contínua aproximação entre as diversas confissões religiosas, para culminar com a situação que se apresenta nos dias de hoje. Discutindo o diálogo ecumênico que envolve as igrejas cristãs e o diálogo interreligioso que acontece entre tradições religiosas de variados credos, evidencia-se a necessidade das ações efetivas para a construção da paz global. A existência de tentativas em torno de um diálogo religioso, expressa uma busca de relacionamento entre cristãos e fiéis de várias religiões ou confissões religiosas. Entretanto, tais gestos foram e são marcados por ações impositivas, eivadas de intolerância, as quais apenas acirravam os espíritos, conduzindo não raro a combates fratricidas.

En 1685, sous le règne de Louis XIV, au moment où la monarchie française voulut extirper l'altérité protestante en révoquant l'édit de Nantes (1598), trois contemporains, Jacques-Bénigne Bossuet (1627-1704), Pierre Jurieu (1637-1713) et Pierre Bayle (1647-1706) élaborèrent des utopies dans lesquelles ils nous font connaître leur vision d'une France idéale. Ces trois utopies, nous voulons les restituer au cours de ce mémoire de maîtrise et souligner quelles sont leurs propositions respectives en matière de gouvernement et de relations interreligieuses. Nous aborderons leurs positions quant aux conséquences politico-religieuses de la Révocation. Et enfin nous dirons quel est le traitement que ces trois auteurs réservent dans leurs textes à la question de la tolérance étatique. / In 1685, during the reign of Louis XIV, the French monarchy tried to extirpate the Calvinist alterity from the kingdom by revoking the Edict of Nantes (1598). At that time three contemporaries, Jacques-Bénigne Bossuet (1627-1704), Pierre Jurieu (1637-1713) and Pierre Bayle (1647-1706), the first Catholic, the others Protestants, conceived utopias in which they introduce us to their vision of an ideal France. The general aim of this master's thesis is to analyze these three utopias and show their proposals in matters of government and interfaith relationship. More precisely, we will study the authors' positions about the politico-religious consequences of the Revocation. We will also see in their writings how they understand the tolerance issue.

Religious Truth and Religious Diversity

When interpreting religion one faces a dilemma. Realist interpretations of religion face the philosophical problem of religious diversity and irrealist interpretations of religion are revisionary. There are two fundamentally different forms of religious irrealism. One, religious anti-realism, describes those who deny that the objective truth conditions by which a given instance of religious language would be true obtain. The other, religious non-realism, describes those who hold that for a given instance of religious language there are no objective truth conditions; that is, a given instance of religious language does not express a proposition. Taking this distinction into account clarifies much of the confusion involved in discussions of religious realism. Providing such clarity with respect to the issues associated with religious realism and religious irrealism is a theme throughout the dissertation. The other goals of the dissertation involve examining the issues raised by the aforementioned dilemma. Realist interpretations of religion are those that maintain for a particular instance of religious language to be true, that which is described by that language must obtain independently of what we do, say or believe. For realism, only that p objectively obtains can make p true. It is for this reason that realist interpretations face the philosophical problem of religious diversity. The worlds religious landscape is marked by similarly credible but conflicting truth claims. On a realist conception one religions claim to ultimate truth necessarily conflicts with that of another if these claims diverge. An examination of the epistemological issues raised by these similarly credible but conflicting claims to religious truth constitutes the first portion of the dissertation. For religious irrealism, the truth conditions of a given instance of religious language are dependent on what we do, say or believe. On this view, God exists can be considered true even if by God exists we mean something other than that God exists. The truth of God exists thus depends on something other than that God exists and as such exemplifies the revisionary character of religious irrealism. The second portion of the dissertation examines these issues as they concern irrealist interpretations of religion.

Islam and political economy : a study of the influence of religiosity and religiously motivated attitudes on macroeconomic performance in countries with substantial Muslim presence

This thesis consists of three empirical chapters studying the relationship be- tween religion and political economy for a sample of countries with substantial Muslim presence. Chapter one is a study of the relationship between religiously motivated at- titudes and FDI for a panel of predominantly Muslim countries over a period of ten years stretching from 1997 to 2006. Instrumenting for the attitude variables, I �nd that countries with more progressive attitudes towards women and higher levels of openness towards foreigners tend to be more attractive to FDI. Chapter two examines the relationship between Islam and economic growth for a panel of countries with substantial Muslim presence over the period 1990-2008. Using instrumental variables, I show that higher levels of religiosity, measured by belief and attendance, depress economic growth. Following up on the �ndings of chapters two and three, in chapter three I inves- tigate how di�erent patterns of religious behaviour map onto economically relevant attitudes for a sample of individuals from predominantly Muslim countries. The empirical �ndings suggest that religiosity in predominantly Muslim countries is associated with conservative attitudes towards women, and intolerance towards strangers. On the other hand, religiosity is found to be associated with con�dence in state institutions, the respect of law, and pro-market attitudes. Testing for the in uence of September 11 on religiosity, I �nd that Muslims after 2001 are more religious. In this thesis I �nd that religion negatively in uences FDI by encouraging conservative attitudes towards women and intolerance towards foreigners. These attitudes are also plausible channels through which the negative in uence of reli- gion on economic growth works. I also �nd that the pro-market attitudes produced by religion are another plausible channel through which the negative in uence of religion works. Finally, the increase in religiosity after the September 11 attacks, ceteris paribus, could plausibly mean that the negative in uence of religiosity in countries with substantial Muslim presence on economic performance would in- crease.

Darbo tikslas: įvertinti suaugusių Lietuvos gyventojų pieno ir pieno produktų vartojimo ypatumus ir žmonių, kurių laktazės aktyvumas yra sumažėjęs, mitybą. Uždaviniai: įvertinti Lietuvos gyventojų pieno ir pieno produktų vartojimo dažnį bei ryšį su socialiniais veiksniais; ištirti žmonių, turinčių sumažėjusį laktazės aktyvumą, pieno ir jo produktų vartojimo įpročius; įvertinti paros maisto davinio sudėtį, atsižvelgiant į laktazės aktyvumą. Tyrimo metodika. Tyrimą sudarė dvi dalys. Pirmojoje buvo vertinami suaugusių Lietuvos žmonių pieno ir jo produktų vartojimo ypatumai. Tiriamąjį kontingentą sudarė 3000 20-64 m. amžiaus Lietuvos gyventojų, atsitiktinai atrinktų iš Lietuvos gyventojų registro sąrašų. Jiems paštu buvo siunčiamas klausimynas, kurį užpildė 1763 gyventojai. Buvo analizuojamas pieno produktų vartojimo dažnis. Antrojoje dalyje buvo vertinama žmonių, turinčių sumažėjusį laktazės aktyvumą, mityba. Tiriamąjį kontingentą sudarė asmenys, kurie kreipėsi į KMUK konsultacinės poliklinikos gastroenterologą dėl virškinimo sistemos sutrikimų. Taikant greitąjį laktazės testą, jiems buvo nustatytas laktazės aktyvumas, atlikta 24 val. mitybos ir anketinė apklausa. Tyrime dalyvavo 54 žmonės. Rezultatai. Ketvirtadalis tiriamųjų (22,7 proc. vyrų ir 26 proc. moterų) atsakė, kad negeria pieno. Didelė gyventojų dalis (35 proc. vyrų ir 28,1 proc. moterų) gėrė natūralų kaimišką pieną. [toliau žr. visą tekstą] / Aim: to evaluate the consumption of milk and milk products among Lithuanian adult population and the diet of patients with lactose intolerance. Objectives: to assess the frequency of consumption of milk and milk products among Lithuanian adult population in relation to social factors; to analyze the habits of milk and milk products consumption as well as mean daily energy and nutrient intake of the patients with lactose intolerance. Methods: for evaluation of the consumption of milk and milk products a national random sample of 3000 inhabitants of Lithuania aged 20-64 has been taken out of National Population Register. The questionnaires were mailed to selected persons. 1763 persons filled in the questionnaire. Second part of the study was carried out in Kaunas University Hospital. Fifty four patients with dyspeptic symptoms underwent upper gastrointestinal endoscopy. Quick lactose test was used for assessment of hypolactasia. Diet was evaluated using 24 h recall and food frequency questionnaire. Results: One fourth of respondents (22.7 percent of men and 26 percent of women) reported that they do not consume milk at all. High-fat milk was consumed by 35% of men and 28% of women. Only 6% of respondents indicated the usage of low-fat milk. High-fat milk was more often consumed by men, if compared to women; by older women, if compared to younger ones; by low educated people, if compared to high educated; by city inhabitants, if compared to rural ones. Discusses relations between literary text and the filmic text, presenting the analysis of narrative texts and reporting the result of the literature review of theoretical-critical support and the consolidation of filmic and literary corpus, considered the respective contexts in which the works were created and circulated. The theoretical amount mobilized for the completion of the critical reading of texts of fiction was selected between literary theories and movie, among them those of intertextuality, transcreation, the adaptation and the metalanguage, which enabled the comparative reflection. In a second moment, the text presents the comparative analysis itself between book and movie, based on the historical context of its elaboration and reception, marked by intolerance and repression, religious, social, cultural political and ethnic, brands from time of authoritarianism and institutionalized violence during the period of the civil-military dictatorship of 1964 post-coup Brazilian. In this context, the research examines the hypothesis that presides over the investigation, centered on the filmmaker's action, which, by means of the filmic language, Advancer-and-Turner reading for the apparent literary, showing the context of intolerance observed in history conveyed in book, but also questioning historical issues, recurrent in the formation of society and supporting the Brazilian cultural imagery. It is in this framework that the contrastive reading seeks to contribute to the study of the critical reception of the two works, read in conjunction and under the comparative bias. / A presente dissertação analisa comparativamente o romance Tenda dos milagres, escrito por Jorge Amado em 1969, e a sua transposição fílmica, de mesmo título, realizada por Nelson Pereira dos Santos em 1977. Aborda relações entre o texto literário e o texto fílmico, apresentando análise dos textos narrativos e relatando o resultado da revisão bibliográfica de suporte teórico-crítico e da consolidação do corpus literário e fílmico, considerados os respectivos contextos em que as obras foram criadas e em que circularam. O aporte teórico mobilizado para a efetivação da leitura crítica dos textos de ficção foi selecionado entre teorias literárias e fílmicas, dentre elas as da intertextualidade, da transcriação, da adaptação e da metalinguagem, as quais possibilitaram a reflexão comparativa. Em um segundo momento, o texto apresenta a análise comparativa propriamente dita entre livro e filme, com base nos contextos históricos de sua elaboração e recepção, marcados pela intolerância e pela repressão cultural, religiosa, social, política e étnica, marcas de tempos de autoritarismo e violência institucionalizados durante o período da ditadura civil-militar brasileira pós-golpe de 1964. Nesse âmbito, a pesquisa analisa a hipótese que preside a investigação, centrada na ação do cineasta, o qual, por meio da linguagem fílmica, manifesta leitura atualizadora para a obra literária, evidenciando o contexto de intolerância observado na história veiculada em livro, como também problematizando questões históricas, recorrentes na formação da sociedade e que sustentam o imaginário cultural brasileiro. É nesse quadro que a leitura contrastiva busca contribuir para os estudos da recepção crítica das duas obras, lidas em conjunto e sob o viés comparativo.

Anxiété d'abandon, intolérance à l'incertitude, satisfaction conjugale et intimité chez les couples de la population générale

Considérant la fragilité des unions d'aujourd'hui qui contribue à créer un contexte peu rassurant pour les conjoints qui s'engagent dans une relation de couple, il semble pertinent d'examiner si une sensibilité liée à l'insécurité est associée à des insatisfactions conjugales. Des chercheurs ont montré des liens significatifs entre des facteurs liés à l'anxiété ainsi que la satisfaction et l'intimité conjugales. Toutefois, des résultats divergents ressortent de ces études, qui ont pour la plupart été réalisées auprès d'étudiants ou d'un seul partenaire du couple. Cette thèse vise à poursuivre l'étude des variables explicatives de la satisfaction et de l'intimité conjugales en ciblant deux vulnérabilités individuelles de nature anxieuse, soit l'anxiété d'abandon et l'intolérance à l'incertitude (II). Cent soixante couples hétérosexuels de la population générale ont été recrutés sur une base volontaire afin de remplir des questionnaires sur les variables étudiées. Des analyses statistiques basées sur l' Actor-Partner Interdependance Model (APIM; Kashy & Kenny, 2000; Kenny, Kashy, & Cook, 2006) ont été réalisées sur les données amassées. Les hypothèses suggérant que l'anxiété d'abandon et l'II d'une personne soient associées négativement à son propre niveau de satisfaction et d'intimité conjugales (effet acteur) ainsi qu'à ceux de son partenaire (effet partenaire) ont été partiellement confirmées. Les résultats révèlent que l'anxiété d'abandon de l'homme est associée négativement à sa satisfaction conjugale, son intimité émotionnelle, sociale, récréative et sexuelle ainsi qu'à la satisfaction conjugale et l'intimité émotionnelle perçue par sa partenaire. L'anxiété d'abandon de la femme est pour sa part liée négativement à son propre niveau d'intimité sociale ainsi qu'à la satisfaction conjugale et l'intimité émotionnelle perçue par son conjoint. Deux différences de sexe significatives indiquent que la façon dont l'anxiété d'abandon d'une personne est associée à sa satisfaction conjugale ainsi qu'au niveau d'intimité sexuelle qu'elle perçoit diffère significativement selon qu'elle soit un homme ou une femme. En ce qui concerne l'II, celle de la femme est associée négativement à son intimité émotionnelle et récréative en plus de l'être à la satisfaction conjugale, l'intimité émotionnelle ainsi que l'intimité récréative de son conjoint. Il est possible que la jalousie, les inquiétudes ainsi que les demandes excessives pour se rassurer puissent en partie expliquer l'expérience conjugale moins enrichissante des partenaires vivant de l'anxiété d'abandon. Il semble également probable que le désir des individus intolérants à l'incertitude d'accéder à des certitudes soit associé à une plus grande difficulté à profiter du moment présent et donc à une expérience d'intimité conjugale moins riche pour les deux partenaires. Cette étude permet d'identifier de nouveaux liens entre l'anxiété d'abandon et différents types d'intimité chez des couples de la population générale. Elle se distingue aussi particulièrement par l'étude de l'II en contexte conjugal qui demeure à ce jour très peu exploitée. Les résultats soulèvent la pertinence de réaliser d'autres études impliquant l'anxiété d'abandon et l'II dans le contexte des relations de couple, dont auprès d'une population clinique, afin d'approfondir les connaissances ainsi que de potentiellement identifier de nouvelles pistes de thérapie conjugale.

Modèle prédictif du trouble obsessionnel-compulsif : effets directs et indirects de l'intolérance à l'incertitude par l'intermédiaire de la responsabilité excessive et de la pleine-conscience

Le Trouble Obsessionnel-Compulsif (TOC) ainsi que les symptômes sous-cliniques de ce trouble sont fréquemment rencontrés dans la population et entraînent de graves conséquences sur le bien-être psychologique et social des individus concernés. Plusieurs travaux s’inscrivant dans la deuxième vague de l’approche cognitive-comportementale révèlent des liens significatifs entre les symptômes du TOC et différents mécanismes cognitifs, dont l'intolérance à l'incertitude (II) (Norton, Sexton, Walker et Norton, 2005) et la responsabilité excessive (RE) (Arntz, Voncken et Goosen, 2007). Dans une optique transdiagnostique, des chercheurs de la troisième vague de l'approche cognitive-comportementale ont élaboré de nouveaux modèles incluant la pleine conscience (PC) pour expliquer le TOC (Hannan et Tolin, 2005). Toutefois, les études validant ces modèles n'incluent pas l'II et la RE et ce, malgré la force des liens constatés entre le TOC et ces variables. La présente étude a pour but de préciser la manière dont l’II, la RE et la PC sont interreliées dans l’explication des symptômes du TOC. Plus précisément, elle vise à tester un modèle dans lequel l’II influence les symptômes du TOC de manière directe ainsi que de manière indirecte par l’intermédiaire de la RE et de la PC. Afin de tester ce modèle, 400 étudiants âgés entre 18 et 65 ans et provenant de deux universités québécoises ont rempli, de manière volontaire, des questionnaires mesurant les différentes variables à l’étude. À partir de ces données, des analyses de corrélation de Pearson, des analyses de régression hiérarchique multiple ainsi que des analyses de médiation (méthode de rééchantillonnage « Bootstrap ») ont été conduites afin de tester les hypothèses formulées. Les résultats soutiennent que l’II exerce un effet direct sur les symptômes du TOC ainsi qu’un effet indirect par l’intermédiaire de la RE et de la PC. L'examen approfondi des effets indirects permet également de préciser les différentes médiations pour les symptômes spécifiques du TOC. Pour les symptômes de vérification, l’II exerce une influence indirecte par l’intermédiaire de la RE. Pour les symptômes d’obsession, elle exerce une influence indirecte par l’intermédiaire des dimensions attention et non-jugement de la PC. Pour les symptômes d’ordre et de symétrie, elle exerce une influence indirecte par l’intermédiaire de la dimension attention de la PC. Ces résultats confirment les hypothèses de l’étude et apportent des éléments préliminaires permettant de mieux comprendre les rôles respectifs de l’II, de la RE et des dimensions de la PC dans l’explication des symptômes du TOC. Notamment, ils suggèrent que l’II joue un rôle clé dans l’ensemble des symptômes du TOC à l’étude, alors que la PC joue un rôle plus spécifique pour les symptômes d’obsession et que la RE joue un rôle plus spécifique dans les symptômes de vérification. En dépit des limites de cette étude, certaines pistes d’intervention clinique émergent des conclusions de cette recherche. Ces conclusions suggèrent également des pistes de recherche à approfondir pour l’élaboration de modèles explicatifs intégrateurs entre la deuxième et la troisième vague de modèles cognitivo-comportementales.
