Synthèse et modification de pigments inorganiques pour affichage électrophorétique en couleurs / Synthesis and modification of inorganic pigments for the electrophoretic colour displays

Ces travaux de thèse portent sur la synthèse de particules hybrides à partir de pigments inorganiques pour la formulation d’encres électrophorétiques colorées. Les pigments doivent répondre à un cahier des charges spécifique à ce type d’application. Ils doivent avoir une taille sub-micronique, une faible densité et un haut indice de réfraction afin d’exalter les phénomènes de diffusion. Les pigments bleus et cyan de structure spinelle CoAl2O4 et NiAl2O4 ont été synthétisés par voie Pechini. Dans les deux cas, des phénomènes de démixtion influençant la couleur ont été observés. Cependant, de par la différence de rayon ionique entre le Co2+ et le Ni2+ (rCo2+ < rNi2+), les origines en sont différentes. Dans le premier cas il a fallu éliminer les ions Co3+ stabilisés en site [6] pour obtenir une phase pure où la majorité des ions cobalt occupent les sites [4]. Dans le second cas l’ajout d’ions Al3+ a été nécessaire pour stabiliser une phase spinelle pure en présence de lacunes cationiques et d’ions Ni2+ occupant partiellement les sites [4] et [6]. Ensuite, nous avons développé des pigments magenta et jaunes de structure olivine explorant la solution solide LiCoxNi1-xPO4. Dans ces composés, l’étude des transitions électroniques corrélées à la structure et à l’environnement des ions chromophores Ni2+ et Co2+ en site [6] a permis de montrer des champs cristallins proches et un effet néphélauxétique presque identique. Finalement l’analyse de l’état de valence du chrome dans les structures de type rutile SnxCr1-xO2 a permis de synthétiser des pigments violets. Dans un second temps, la surface des pigments a été modifiée avec des chaines silanes de type n-trimethoxysilane afin de favoriser la dispersion des pigments dans un milieu apolaire. Puis les pigments modifiés ont été polymérisés dans l’Isopar G par polymérisation radicalaire contrôlée par les nitroxydes avec du méthacrylate de méthyle afin de diminuer la densité globale des particules hybrides et ainsi obtenir des encres stables. L’étude de l’influence des conditions expérimentales a été effectuée sur chaque pigment afin de formuler des encres colorées et chargées sans ajout de contrôleur de charge. La réalisation d’un dispositif électrophorétique à deux couleurs bleu et blanc a finalement pu être développé. / This work deals with the hybrid particles synthesis, using inorganic pigment for the coloured electrophoretic inks formulation. To comply with this type of application, pigments must have a sub-micrometer size, a low density and a high refractive index in order to exalt the diffusion phenomena. Blue and cyan spinel structure pigments CoAl2O4 and NiAl2O4 have been synthesized by Pechini process. In both these oxides, steric and electronic effects allowed stabilizing pure phases with enhanced colouring effects. In the case of CoAl2O4, we have to avoid the occurrence of Co3+ (LS) whereas for NiAl2O4, excess of Al3+ is necessary to get pure phases with nanosized crystallites. Then, magenta and yellow olivine structure pigments have been developed with the exploration of the solid solution LiCoxNi1-xPO4. In these compounds, the study of the electronic transitions combined with Ni2+ and Co2+ chromophores ions structure and environment in [6] site leads to comparable crystal field and so an almost similar nephelauxetic effect for both ions. Finally, the investigation of the valence state and the environment of chromium in rutile type structure Sn1-xCrxO2 allowed the synthesis of purple pigments. In a second part, the pigment surface has been modified with n-trimethoxysilane chains to improve the pigment dispersion in apolar media. Then, modified pigments have been polymerised in Isopar-G by nitroxyde mediated radical polymerisation with methyl methacrylate to decrease the hybrids density and to obtain stable inks. The impact of the experimental conditions has been studied on each pigments in order to formulate coloured and charged inks without any charge control agent. A two-colour electrophoretic device (blue/white) has been finally tested.

Tribonacci Cat Map : A discrete chaotic mapping with Tribonacci matrix

Based on the generating matrix to the Tribonacci sequence, the Tribonacci cat map is a discrete chaotic dynamical system, similar to Arnold's discrete cat map, but on three dimensional space. In this thesis, this new mapping is introduced and the properties of its matrix are presented. The main results of the investigation prove how the size of the domain of the map affects its period and explore the orbit lengths of non-trivial points. Different upper bounds to the map are studied and proved, and a conjecture based on numerical calculations is proposed. The Tribonacci cat map is used for applications such as 3D image encryption and colour encryption. In the latter case, the results provided by the mapping are compared to those from a generalised form of the map.

Racial Representation in Swedish Children´s Picture Books : A Reflection of Hegemonic Whiteness

In this thesis, through critically analysing images and text in a selection of Swedish children's picture books, the aim is to investigate how white and non-white bodies are represented, and how racial differences between these white and non-white bodies are depicted and racial meanings addressed. Theoretical concepts from within the field of Critical race- and Whiteness studies are applied, to demonstrate how hegemonic whiteness and colour-blindness as discourse is prevalent in these children´s books, which is achieved by using non-white characters as tokens. Moreover, this study of representation is an illustrative case for how race can function as social construct, and thus should have value as an analytical concept also in IMER-studies performed in the Swedish context. It can additionally lift a discussion about the importance for children at an early age, to develop awareness and understanding of how race can affect individual lives.

Subkultura tetování - Obsahová analýza časopisu Inked / The Subculture of Tattoo - The Content Analysis of Inked Magazine

The theses named Subculture of a tattoo, Content analysis of a magazine Inked is primary focused on the nowadays phenomenon of a tattoo, there then the whole development of this social subculture. The aim of this thesis is to sum up and analyse the term of subculture, to see in detail the historical beginnings and development of tattooing, to describe functions, motivations and the reasons of an actual act of a tattoo. The main focus will be set on the American lifestyle magazine Inked. I will try to analyse this printed media, which targets on the tattoo subculture, culture itself, style and art. This thesis will characterise the magazine and will basically follow the Inked in two year time period. Which are the years 2009 and 2010, my interest is focused in this theme agenda and its development during this period of time. The researching method will then be a quantitative content analysis. Anticipace a prožívání zrady v interpersonálních vztazích / Betrayal anticipation and experience in interpersonal relationships

"It's terrible. You can't trust anyone anymore." - Dawn Butler In this dissertation I concern myself with a phenomenon of betrayal within field of psychology. Despite the fact that examples of violations or betrayals of trust are manifold, relatively little theory exists regarding dynamics of trust, context-specific perception of betrayal or ability to predict violation of trust be- fore it actually happens. Overall there is significant gap in our knowledge about betrayal, despite its obvious prevalence in human behaviour. There are several approaches to betrayal ranging from evolutionary psy- chology to organizational psychology. Nevertheless this area lacks some unified approach and grasp of the problem. In my work I try to explore and build upon all these theories to answer following questions: (1) Is betrayal context-specific? Does certain context trigger perception of certain behaviour to be viewed as betrayal? (2) What role does intentionality play in perception of betrayal? In what contexts is intention even relevant? (3) Are we able to predict betrayal? Are there some emotional or communicational clues of upcoming betrayal? In the research part of this thesis I further examine betrayal in four differ- ent ways. Roman&quot;">Primena različitih tretmana sa ciljem redukcije sadržaja nesaharoznih jedinjenja u melasi &scaron;ećerne repe potencijalan je metod za pobolj&scaron;anje parametara kvaliteta melase, lak&scaron;e sprovođenje procesa desaharifikacije melase i sprečavanje eventualnih nepoželjnih promena pri skladi&scaron;tenju melase. Stoga je predmet istraživanja ove disertacije redukovanje sadržaja nesaharoznih jedinjenja u melasi &scaron;ećerne repe upotrebom prirodnih adsorbenata mineralnog (različiti tipovi bentonita) i celuloznog (celuloza različitog stepena čistoće i modifikovani ekstrahovani rezanci &scaron;ećerne repe) porekla. Variranjem pH vrednosti sredine, suve materije melase i koncentracije primenjenog adsorbenta ispitan je sinergistički efekat uslova tretmana na stepen redukcije sadržaja nesaharoznih jedinjenja u melasi. Therefore, the objective of this dissertation is to reduce the content of non-sugar compounds in sugar beet molasses by using natural adsorbents of mineral (different types of bentonite) and cellulosic (cellulose of different purity and modified sugar beet pulp) origin. By varying treatment conditions such as pH, molasses dry substance and the applied adsorbent concentration, the synergistic effect of the treatment conditions on the reduction efficiency of non-sugar compounds content in molasses was examined. Despite the increasing interest in asylum seekers and refugees within the field of migration studies, there has been a gap in queer migrants’ research. This thesis is an attempt to investigate how migrant and gender identity are influencing each other and how they lead to experiences of both inclusion and exclusion in Swedish society, based on experiences of six queer migrants. In the first half, there is a presentation and criticism on migrant theories and previous studies related to the subjects of migration, gender and sexuality. There is also an attempt to defining queer and presenting how it intersects with migrant identity, through the stages of welcoming, adapting, developing, and maintaining oneself in a Swedish level. Finally, aspects of space and feelings of belonging are discussed further on. The second half of the thesis consists of a methodological part and the analysis of the interviews with queer migrants in Sweden, leading to further discussions, additional thoughts, and suggestions.

The human eye is a conspicuous and unique component of facial appearance. From other mammalian eyes it is set apart mainly by its unusual shape, visible white sclera, and a wide range of iris colours, which is something unique within a single species. Whether alone or in the context of the face as a whole, eye colour is an underexplored area within research into the perception of various personality traits. In this thesis, the author first reviews the physiological factors connected with eye colour and reported correlations between eye colour and different psychological and behavioural conditions. This is followed by an investigation of a possible relationship between eye colour and perceived dominance and attractiveness. The first and second study examines whether and to what extent eye colour is associated with facial morphology responsible for perceived dominance. The results are ambiguous. A cross-cultural comparison in the third study revealed that faces with blue eyes are judged as more attractive only in populations where individuals with darker eyes predominate. It is thus discussed whether this population-specific pattern is the consequence of a negative frequency-dependent selection that may have contributed to the present-day eye colour diversity. I will demonstrate the significance of colour by making an analysis of the meaning, pattern, and change of the six colours. Utilizing colour symbolism in literature is a method that illustrates and narrates information beyond the literal sense. Colour consists of multiple meanings and has the quality of being ambiguous. The juxtaposition in colour and its symbolism reflects the ever-changing and multifaceted stages in life. / Syftet med denna uppsats är att undersöka symboliken i sex tematiskt viktiga färger i F. Scott Fitzgeralds Den Store Gatsby och hur de är kopplade till karaktärerna, handlingen, och teman. Jag kommer att visa färgens betydelse genom att göra en analys av syftet, mönstret, och förändringen i dessa sex färger.
