Entre distance géographique et distance sociale : le risque de paludisme-infection en milieu urbain africain : l'exemple de l'agglomération de Dakar, Sénégal / Between spatial distance and social distance : the risk of malaria infection in African urban areas : the case study of Dakar, Senegal

Borderon, Marion 02 February 2016 (has links)
This thesis applies an Exploratory Spatial Data Analysis (ESDA) approach to study a complex phenomenon in a data scarce environment: malaria infection in Dakar. Each component of the malaria pathogenic system is necessary but not sufficient to result in an infection when acting in isolation. For malaria infection to occur, three components need to interact: the parasite, the vector, and the human host. The identification of areas where these three components can easily interact is therefore essential in the fight against malaria and the improvement of programs for the prevention and control or elimination of the disease. ESDA, still rarely applied in developing countries, is thus defined as a research approach but also as a way to provide answers to global health challenges. It leads to observation, from different angles, on the social and spatial determinants of malaria infection, as well as the examination of existing interactions between its three components. Several streams of quantitative information were collected, both directly and indirectly related to the study of malaria. More specifically, multi-temporal satellite imagery, census data, and results from social and health surveys have been integrated into a Geographic Information System (GIS) to describe the city and its inhabitants. Combining these datasets has enabled to study the spatial variability of the risk of malaria infection.

Apprentissage des langues en contexte scolaire : l’agir ensemble en cycle 3 dans le cadre de projets d’échanges à distance franco-britanniques / Language learning at upper elementary school : a co-action process based on Franco-British distance exchange projects

Choffat-Dürr, Anne 01 December 2014 (has links)
Today, the pedagogy of distance exchange projects based on mediated digital communication tools allows new insights into the ability of young learners with minimal competence in the target language to interact at a distance with young speakers of that language. Situated within a social constructivist and interactionist framework, the study investigates the potential of exchange projects and how they develop according to the people and resources available. Based on observations of four Franco-British partnership projects undertaken in upper primary school (ages 7-10) over one year, it investigates pupils’ learning of English or French through reciprocal exchange projects. It also seeks to identify the participants’ initial project designs and intentions (through questionnaires and interviews). The results of what transpires through the joint activities of teachers and students are examined (various data collection means were employed according to action research protocol). The data analysis follows two main hypotheses: one directed towards the social dimension of (student) exchanges and the other towards the impact on language learning. Organizational variables, as well as technical-educational, psychological and institutional variables are thus examined. Numerous characteristics of the projects observed emerged including: pupils’ taking responsibility for their learning, diversity of language production and language skills involved, coherence between the activities and the established social ties and evidence of metacognitive and metalinguistic reflection. These lead to consideration of the ways in which situated learn-ing and action foster collaboration and empowerment.

I.P.E.I.S. And F.S.S.) scriptwriting assessments of current scientific and technical FOU, posted on Moodle 2.4 of U.V.T platform designed for freshmen preparatory cycles

Fakhfakh, Fatma 28 May 2016 (has links)
At the close of the new researches in didactics at university (French on university objectives and Remote Teaching) and educational reforms targeting the development of learners' level in French inside and outside French departments (Project of updating of French and in French in higher education),scientific and technical French in departments of preliminary courses is an interesting field of study. First-year students-those who passed the baccalaureate- need to know about their university aims in French so as to target the content of apprenticeship programmes and evaluation. Further to a conception of a system of reference of abilities of scientific and technical French (inspired from the principles of Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) and an online lesson of scientific and technical French on MOODLE 2.4 of Tunis Virtual University, we undertake in this thesis to design the models of apprenticeship assessments appropriate to our context. The 2014 investigations in Preparatory Institute for engineering Studies de Sfax and Faculty of Sciences of Sfax (with students of the four branches, French module instructors and the first-year subjects ’instructors) have led us to envisage the idea of the contextualization of apprenticeship portfolio and a model of linguistic certification (Study Diploma in French Language of B1 level) from which we get the conception of brief /summary assessments

Factors Affecting Adoption and Diffusion of Distance Education Among Health Education Faculty

Ball, James W. 01 May 2013 (has links)
Background: In the past decade, distance education enrollment has become more common in colleges and universities, increasing from 1.6 million students in 1998 to an estimated 6.7 million in 2012. The purpose of this study was to identify which constructs in Rogers' (2003) diffusion of innovation theory are more likely to contribute to adoption and diffusion of distance education in health education. Health education instructors and faculty can use the information obtained from the results of this study if they want to implement distance education. Methods: A quantitative, cross-sectional, descriptive, and correlational survey design was used in this study. An instrument designed to measure constructs and factors affecting the adoption and diffusion of distance education in health education were developed for the study. Health educators employed by health education departments listed in the AAHE (2011) Directory (N=498) were contacted by email and asked to participate in this study. The survey was distributed through SurveyMonkeyTM survey software that was activated December 2012 - January 2013. Results and Conclusions: A total of 245 health education faculty completed the instrument, but 21 participants were omitted because they did not complete at least 95% of the survey instrument. A total of 224 survey instruments were retained and included in the analysis, providing a 44.9% response rate. Based on the Pearsons correlation and multiple linear regression it can be concluded that the likelihood of distance education adoption by health education faculty is highly dependent on the communication channels and characteristics of the innovation (distance education) constructs of the diffusion of innovation theory. There was a large majority of participants in the early majority adopter category and this is because of two reasons. The first reason is that participants had not decided whether to accept or reject distance education. The other reason is that distance education is a relatively new innovation and it has not fully diffused through the health education profession. Experience with distance education was not shown to increase the likelihood of distance education adoption because the majority of participants have not yet decided whether to accept or reject distance education. The social system construct was the least predictive of distance education adoption. If distance education has not yet fully diffused through the health education profession then it is hard for the social system to impact the likelihood of distance education adoption.

Development of Comparative Wear Test of ASTM G75 Standard

Jogineedi, Rohit 01 December 2017 (has links)
AN ABSTRACT OF THE THESIS OF ROHIT JOGINEEDI, for the Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering and Processes, presented on 11/06/2017, at Southern Illinois University Carbondale. TITLE: DEVELOPMENT OF COMPARATIVE WEAR TEST FOR ASTM G75 STANDARD MAJOR PROFESSOR: Dr. Peter Filip Industries related to tribology field invest huge amounts in testing products they handle. Most of their budget goes into running tests on corresponding friction, wear or lubrication testing instruments. These tests are observed to be consuming more time with an increase in operational costs. This gained importance among industries for developing economical testing methods designed to run on one or more machines to study tribological conditions. As friction and wear are system properties, change in system variables like distance, velocity, time and area can have notable impact on those properties. This paper discusses about various approaches to develop comparative test on sub scale testers for ASTM G75 standard. Scaling Laws of Physics and comparison of wear mode are two approaches used in this paper to justify the comparative test developed for ASTM G75 on a bench top tester developed by Bruker. Results from the ASTM G75 standard and the UMT are compared and concluded that scaling strategies cannot be used to replicate the standard test methods on sub scale testers but comparison of wear mode could help. This proposed comparative test for ASTM G75 is observed to have lower operational costs thereby decreasing the amount of investment on testing friction or wear products in an industry.

The compression of space and time caused by new information and communication technologies coupled with the constant need for expertise demanded by the world of work has made population older demands pressure ever more the public school system in search of improvement. The educational system, in turn, is pressed to meet Subjects with different needs and at different times. In this scenario, distance education has been redeemed as an important ally in the task of democratizing access to education. Among other tools, the distance education has made intensive use of audiovisuals materials as a way to enhance the understanding of the message, especially when the Subjects of the educational process are physically separated. In this sense, in a context populated by the media, especially the emergence of new digital formats, the audiovisual part acquires special importance because it allows a different reading of the world, besides its coverage potential that can not be ignored. There is, however, a gap in relation to production parameters of audiovisual educational materials. Learning styles allow you to highlight individual differences and guide the use of audiovisual materials that are more suitable, according to the specific needs of students. Therefore, this study had as a general objective to understand the educational audiovisual materials according to learning styles, indicating paths and use strategies. ConstruÃÃo e validaÃÃo de hipermÃdia educativa sobre parto para a graduaÃÃo em enfermagem / Construction and validation of educational hypermedia parturition for graduation in nursing

Lara Leite de Oliveira 23 January 2015 (has links)
The study aimed to construct and validate the contents and appearance in an educational hypermedia applying for undergraduate nursing. To support the development of this study, we adopted the Theory of Social Interaction Vygotsky, which emphasizes that knowledge arises from the social interaction between at least two people and this makes knowledge possible and sharing facilitated. It was a methodological research. This study was followed by some steps, which are: survey content and planning of the modules; production of media and organization of tutorials units; spatial organization of the student, tutor and communication between them; development of hypermedia; availability of hypermedia; reviewed by technical experts in Nursing and Informatics and implementation of the proposed suggestions. The survey of scientific production implemented initially was addressed by the theme nursing care to clinical parturition periods, including textbooks of obstetrics, technical manuals of the Ministry of Health of Brazil and the World Health Organisation, also works and articles published in national and international journals. The hypermedia constructed was entitled "Nursing Care to clinical parturition periods", addressing the care that nursing professionals should have during labor and vaginal parturition without distorting. The texts prepared in the hypermidia were organized from the information raised in the literature and consulted a computer specialist company to develop the website. For the validation of content and appearance was chosen sample calculation based on the infinite population formula. The sample is composed of 22 judges, selected through pre-established criteria, 11 expert judges in obstetric nursing and 11 expert computer specialists (assessment of content). The construction and technical validation of the hypermedia occurred from July 2014 to January 2015. For data collection was utilized two instruments, which are one directed to the expert judges in obstetric nursing and another one for specialist judges in Computer. For the analysis of validation of hypermedia, we used the Content Validity Index (CVI) with a cutoff point of 0.78 and the binomial test. The suggestions and opinions were compiled and discussed. The educational hypermedia proved to be a validated material, as presented a great global CVI 0.97 and statistically significant in the binomial test for content and appearance. The suggestions and contributions, which were given during the validation process contributed to hypermedia modifications, adjustments and additions to make it more effective. It is believed that the use of this material with students of nursing degree will contribute to obstetric care in order to constitutes an illustrated technology to facilitate the teaching and learning process of humanized normal birth, favoring the quality of nursing care for parturient.

This study aimed to construct and validate an educational hypermedia that will facilitate the teaching-learning process concerning the nursing activities in realizing the Gynecologic Nursing Consultation. As a guiding base for the development of this study, we adopted the Theory of Social Interaction of Vygotsky, who defines social interaction as the exchange of information between at least two people should experience the double meaning of this interaction, ie, reciprocity between those involved, which makes knowledge sharing possible and easier. This is a development study, which was constructed and validated an approach to educational hypermedia on the Gynecologic Nursing Consultation. Hypermedia was developed in the Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) Solar, the period from January to June 2011. For the construction of hypermedia, six steps were followed, among which the first five comprised the construction phase of hypermedia composed his sixth and validation phase. The survey content and design of the modules were the first step. In this, we sought to content on the implementation of Gynecologic Nursing Consultation in textbooks, manuals and the Ministry of Health papers available in the database on the Internet. The content was organized in modules, pointing out key information about the Nursing Consultation of cervical cancer, the Gynecologic Nursing Consultation and possible diagnoses and treatments. In the second stage of the study, the media were developed that made hypermedia, and may be composed of pictures, videos, texts, among others. In the third stage of the development of hypermedia annotations were available spaces, called portfolios, for the student and tutor, as well as tools of communication between them, such as discussion forums and chat, to develop greater social interaction among the participants of this process teaching and learning. Finished the previous three steps - the content, media and communication spaces and notes - the items produced were available on the AVA SOLAR. Continuing the process of construction of hypermedia, we carried out the validation process of the material produced. In the validation process were invited, according to predetermined criteria, four experts and four nursing informatics to evaluate hypermedia, were identified when the set points needed for a better use of hypermedia. As for the construction of this product, it was found that the steps taken were satisfactory, so that it was possible to build an educational product able to promote the teaching-learning process with respect to the issue of Gynecologic Nursing Consultation. Regarding the validation of this material, there are points of adjustments that were considered and corrected, and others who have been satisfactorily addressed and highlighted by the experts who participated in the study. Implemented the changes requested, denoted is the validation of hypermedia from experts, being able to use at the audience for which it was built.

Abstract: The computer software emulating electronic circuits can be very useful in engineering analysis. In order to use this resource in Electrical Engineering education, it has studied the necessary requirements and created a _exible software framework. Using multimedia features and mathematical modeling it can be used to make presentations, emulating processes and to show theoretical and practical situations. Additionally it could be used in electronic learning, even trough the Internet, working with object oriented, reusability and vector images concepts. Even in order to test the applicability it was developed an speci_c usability testing for electronic learning systems. / Mestrado / Automação / Mestre em Engenharia Elétrica
