The brasilian experience slavocrat influenced the formation of brazilian society, being the afro-descending ones the most affected portion for the slavery institution. The present work proposes a reflection concerning the present possible representations in didactic manuals regarding a important theme when we thinks in valorization of the Brazilian black's historiography, the period powder-abolition. In spite of the choice of a period, it intends not to lose the perspective of other fundamental themes of that historiography, such as the period of the slavery and of the slave rebellions. The proposal is justified for at least two reasons: 1) the text books are objects of wide insert in the contemporary Brazilian society and content has been criticized thoroughly, starting from the political opening of the country, besides, it is undeniable that the content of the text book molds the notion of the citizens' of a society History; 2) the black movements have been demanding the insert and/or renewal of the contents that they can constitute positive identities, a partial result would be the approval of the Law 10.639/03. Along the research, we will try to evidence also, to growing economical and pedagogic importance that it has been surrounding the Brazilian didactic materials considered the largest product of market of the companies editorials, that possess as larger buyer of their products the Brazilian government. For methodology chose analysis of the contents, ruled in the discussions of Eni Pulcinelli Orlandi; and for the concept of representation of Roger Chartier; we believed that those two theoretical references can turn visible which are the readers' of text books possible apprehensions concerning about a fundamental historical period for the black segment of brazilian society

A seguir,... / This work has the main issue to understand the fomentation of the proposals penalizing or not existing in our social organization. His area of study is aimed at knowledge political-criminal that supports both the governance practices of public administration and disciplining of bodies, from processes of criminalization of acts and people, as the contemporary proposals for abolition of these mechanisms. Therefore, this study came from examining the practices of conflict resolution in circumstances remote from the power characteristic of the state justice. Backed in the form of the old Germanic law, we appreciate the joints and administrative policies of the former societies of Germany at the time that did not exist a centralized justice to resolve conflicting or harmful events in their daily lives. Then, while passing by the constituent elements of canon law, we examine the resonances of the premises of sin and guilt - stemming from the moral scholasticism - the constitution of the concept of crime as an event and penalizável infraction. We entered, then the analysis of complex processes of social, political and economic problems that have formalized the model of criminal justice from the consolidation of the absolutist state. From the institutionalization of the concept of crime, with special attention to political and economic landscape of the time, also ponder the philosophical references that formed the backdrop for the emergence of several theories criminals, criminal cases. Emerged in a repertoire to combat administrative monarchies, we present the Classical School of Criminology, concerning the formulations presented in the book Of Crimes and punishment ...(Complete abstract click electronic access below)

Andressa Capucci Ferreira 19 December 2011 (has links)
This paper aims to reconstruct and investigate some abolitionists actions that occurred in the Jacareí municipality in the 1880s, especially through the actions of individuals who leaded two milestones in the history of this movement in the locality: the expulsion of abolitionists occurred in November 26th of 1883 and the foundation of the Clube Abolicionista in August of 1887. “…Has ever been the appropriate occupation of woman”: crafting femininity in American women’s decorative needlework, 1820 to 1920

Gruner, Mariah Rose 01 October 2021 (has links)
This dissertation examines core themes of the developing women’s movement in the United States from 1820 to 1920—the abolition of slavery, women’s property ownership, education, political identity, motherhood, and the franchise—through the lens of decorative needlework. I read the stitch as a key medium through which women visually and materially articulated their relationship to these concerns. My project has four main aims: first, to examine decorative needlework as a site of gender construction, performance, and contestation; second, to explicate the complex temporal dynamics of this stitched craft; third, to highlight the racialized, classed, and national dynamics of this work; and fourth, to theorize the sedimentary nature of crafted and gendered forms. Analyzing the rise of architectural iconography and feminized depictions of property in schoolgirl samplers, the uses of femininity and representations of Blackness in antislavery needlework, and suffragists’ debates about the political efficacy of needlework, I argue that American women used their needlework both to signal their belonging to normative femininity and to broaden its definition in deeply classed and racialized ways. As they made samplers and other textiles, I contend, stitchers worked to craft useable femininities, gendered positions from which to speak, act, construct themselves, and be remembered. My project seeks to excavate the racialized meanings of this clearly gendered work. I trace the intimate entanglements between white supremacy, colonialism, nativism, and white women’s work to materialize their own authority through textiles. I also probe the needlework strategies employed by Black and indigenous women who both encountered decorative needlework as a coerced form, but also worked to claim public visibility, remembrance, respectability, and remuneration with their stitches, challenging the whiteness of idealized femininity. By studying the ways in which white, Black, and indigenous women used the stitch to materialize gendered and racialized relationships to property, education, citizenship, empire, enslavement, and freedom, this dissertation recaptures the significant contributions that needleworkers made to women’s cultural and political activism and reconsiders gender itself as a crafted form, materially produced in the repetition of the stitch.

Paid sex in Czech Republic - how to solve it by legislation?

Krejčová, Veronika January 2008 (has links)
Diploma thesis "Paid sex in Czech republic - how to solve it by legislation?" deals with prostitution and the way it is considered by law. In this thesis I first focus on defining the subject by describing different types of prostitution and associated legislative attitudes both in Czech republic and abroad, which makes me understand the complexity of this issue and vast area that is influenced by it. Regarding this I also analyze the stakeholders platform realizing that various groups connected to this subject consider the key problem about prostitution being in different areas and they also demand diverse solutions. My other conclusion is that regarding legislation associated to prostitution we can find a crucial lack of proper cooperation with non governmental organizations that have the closest relationship with sex-workers. This could cause the legislation being disconnected from the reality and not being able to implement its key objectives. In the second part of analysis I focus on analyzing the variety of legislation attitudes towards prostitution - abolition, decriminalization and legalization and evaluate these alternatives by set of criteria regarding technical feasibility, economic possibility, political viability and administrative operability. As a result I suggest the forth...

Emerson's Philosophy: A Process of Becoming through Personal and Public Tragedy

Simonson, Amy L. 08 1900 (has links)
Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) / This thesis explores Ralph Waldo Emerson’s philosophical becoming throughout decades of reflection and experience, particularly regarding death and slavery. Emerson was a buoyant writer and speaker, but the death of his five-year-old son and protégé, Waldo, challenged the father’s belief in Nature’s goodness and the reality of maintaining a tenaciously optimistic outlook. As he was grieving in the mid-1840s, slavery was threatening the Union, and Emerson was compelled to turn his attention to the subject of human bondage. He began his career indifferent to the plight of slaves, but as legislation about the issue brought it closer to his personal sphere, he was gradually yet firmly gripped by the tragedy of human bondage. These simultaneously existing spheres of sorrow – Waldo’s death and slavery – joined in refining Emerson’s personal philosophy toward greater utilitarian and humanitarian conduct. His letters, journals, essays, and lectures reflect the inward changes caused by outward events, and the conclusions herein are supported by modern grief studies as well as numerous philosophers, literary specialists, and historians.

In the Belly Past the Teeth

James, Vida C 01 January 2023 (has links) (PDF)
Set in the very near future against the ticking clock of climate change, In the Belly Past the Teeth follows a cast of characters who deal with the carceral state and presence of surveillance in their lives. A mother in family court for domestic violence asks herself what is justice in love; a prison guard questions himself after a relationship changes how he sees solitary confinement; a young woman becomes an abolitionist after experiencing the school to prison pipeline; a grandmother find a second chance in foster guardianship; a girl killed by police spurs a movement; a man imprisoned in Attica is haunted by a ghost of the riot. These characters intersect as systems of oppression intersect under the carceral state.

Capoeiras e valentões na história de São Paulo (1830-1930) / Capoeiras and bullies in the history of São Paulo (1830-1930)

Cunha, Pedro Figueiredo Alves da 30 August 2011 (has links)
Until mid-twentieth century, capoeira had its potential as a record of deeds and wills of enslaved Africans and their descendants ignored by historical study. Based on specific studies about this practice, the historiography advanced significantly. First, more focused at two states known as poles of modern capoeira: Rio de Janeiro and Bahia. After that, new studies have been showing the practice in other areas such as Pernambuco, Pará and Maranhão. São Paulo was scenario of a vigorous slavery that advanced throughout the nineteenth century and explored thousands of souls. Researches on the lives of slaves at São Paulo territory in this period have shown, albeit loosely, that capoeira was present in the everyday life of cities in urbanization process. Aiming to better understand how this activity is embedded in the cogs of São Paulo society throughout the nineteenth century and the first decades of the twentieth century, we developed a study on this martial art in the capital and other cities, through analysis of sources of diverse natures reminiscences, newspapers, laws and registers of municipal councils, prisoners record books, documents of the judiciary, such as criminal cases as well as letters and telegrams of authorities. More broadly, we expect that this research contributes to discussions about the formation process in Brazil of the capoeira, an afro-brazilian martial art now practiced worldwide.
