Their main characteristic is the augmented second pair of maxilipeds which are used as both tools and weapons. In the present work twenty species of stomatopods from the northeastern brazilian coast had been morphometrically studied and a species catalog was produced. Structural patterns were observed and described within the families and species. Maximum or minimum sizes of four species have been raised: Pseudosquillisma oculata; Lysiosquilla scabricauda; Alachosquilla floridensis and Gibbesia neglecta. Most cases showed that it is possible distinguishing among different taxons using six linear morphometric measurements through discriminant analyses. No significant morphometric differences between males and females were detected within the analysed species. Key words: stomatopods, brazilian northeast, morphometry, catalog, structural patterns.

A Catalog of Solo Works for Marimba with Electronics and An Examination and Performance Guide of "Flux" for Marimba and Electronic Tape by Mei-Fang Lin

January 2011 (has links)
abstract: The marimba has garnered increased attention in percussion performance over the past thirty years. Literature for beginners through professionals in a multitude of styles have been written. With the ever-growing number of marimbists since the 1980's there has been a high demand for new works. Numerous pieces were created through commissions: composers contracted to write music by individuals, institutions, and consortia. Three primary types of marimba solo music were written: unaccompanied solos, concerti, and marimba solos with electronic accompaniment. Since electronic music is relatively new in marimba performance, there is very little information published regarding this topic. Only a handful of well-known compositions in this genre have been widely performed, and a great number of existing works are unfamiliar to the percussion world. The goal of this study is to generate an overview of electronic music in marimba performance by compiling a chronological catalog of compositions written for solo marimba with electronics. In addition, this study wishes to promote this genre of solo marimba music through the commission, performance, examination, and recording of a new work for marimba and electronics. It is the author's wish to bring this topic to percussionists' attention, and to enrich the marimba solo literature by both exploring existing literature and encouraging the commissioning and performance of marimba music. / Dissertation/Thesis / Flux for Marimba and Electronic Tape (2011) by Mei-Fang Lin / D.M.A. Music 2011

Rhodacaridae are cosmopolitan Mesostigmata mites commonly mentioned as predators in the edaphic environment, although there are no studies on their biology. Knowledge on the taxonomy of these mites is still limited. Another Mesostigmata, Stratiolaelaps scimitus (Womersley) (Laelapidae), is reported as a predator of Sciaridae (Diptera). The general objective of this study was to establish the bases to facilitate the recognition of the Rhodacaridae and initiate the evaluation of its potential for practical use, as well as further evaluate the potential use of S. scimitus to control Bradysia matogrossensis (Lane) (Sciaridae). The preparation of a list of the world Rhodacaridae showed this family is comprised by 137 species in 15 genera. Five species of 5 genera of Rhodacaridae were identified in this study of from 7 localities of remnants of “Cerrado” and “Mata Atlântica”. Three of those species were determined as new to science. Laboratory studies demonstrated that Protogamasellopsis posnaniensis Wisniewski & Hirschmann (Rhodacaridae) consumed all prey species offered, and was able to oviposite when preying on each of them. Tests in commercial production of Agaricus bisporus (Lange) (Fungi: Agaricaceae) demonstrated that S. scimitus is an efficient control agent of B. matogrossensis.

The research conducts a study about a specific catalog, the Athena, considered a system of retrieval of information structured and organized. In this environment you have to evaluate a set of guidelines for usability and apply them in systems for retrieval of information on the Web, taking into account aspects relating not only to the usability of its interface, but also its efficiency in the recovery process. The study is characterized as exploratory and descriptive and analytical. Thus, it was initially to review the national and international literature on recovery of information and usability in various informational sources, printed and electronic, as the theoretical work. In the second stage, was a heuristic analysis, and finally usability tests were carried out with users that were applied in two procedures: a semi-structured questionnaire and an instrument of observation. After the analysis of quantitative and qualitative data, the test allows users to determine how they interact with the interface of the Athena Catalog and the forms of search that usually take place in other tools available on the Web was also possible to validate some notes made in heuristic analysis, because the majority of the research has shown to have no experience in the use of Athena Catalog. This research shows the importance of applying the tests with users in environments of retrieval of information, considering them a vital part in the development of any system.

Catalogage de petits débris spatiaux en orbite basse par observations radars isolées / Cataloguing small LEO objects using a narrow-fence type radar

Castaings, Thibaut 21 January 2014 (has links)
Space debris have become a significant threat to the viability of operational satellites in Low-Earth-Orbit. In order to avoid accidental collisions, space surveillance systems exist but their detection performance is limited for the small debris (less than 10cm). New solutions are then at study. This thesis aims at supporting the feasibility of a ground-based radar sensor with a narrow-fence type field of regard for the cataloging of the small space debris. Such a system would produce “isolated” observations, that is to say that an orbit is not directly available from each one of them. The large number of potential combinations is then computationally prohibitive for solving this tracking problem. In this work, we propose a new method for track initiation, i.e. associating isolated observations with little ambiguity and deduce accurate orbits. The obtained set of tracks are combined and filtered using an multitarget tracking algorithm that we have adapted to the peculiarities of the problem. With a coverage rate of more than 80% in real-time on 3 days for 500 to 800-objects scenarios in addition of a high false alarm rate, the performance of the proposed method supports the feasibility of the considered system. Aiming at extrapolating the obtained results to higher observation densities, we propose a combinatorial complexity model calibrated with the algorithm performance for low detection densities. The contribution of a second identical sensor is also assessed and reveals a possible trade-off between reactivity and combinatorial complexity, which offers an additional degree of freedom in the design of such a system.
