Regularizability of ill-posed problems and the modulus of continuity

Bot, Radu Ioan, Hofmann, Bernd, Mathe, Peter January 2011 (has links)
The regularization of linear ill-posed problems is based on their conditional well-posedness when restricting the problem to certain classes of solutions. Given such class one may consider several related real-valued functions, which measure the wellposedness of the problem on such class. Among those functions the modulus of continuity is best studied. For solution classes which enjoy the additional feature of being star-shaped at zero, the authors develop a series of results with focus on continuity properties of the modulus of continuity. In particular it is highlighted that the problem is conditionally well-posed if and only if the modulus of continuity is right-continuous at zero. Those results are then applied to smoothness classes in Hilbert space. This study concludes with a new perspective on a concavity problem for the modulus of continuity, recently addressed by two of the authors in "Some note on the modulus of continuity for ill-posed problems in Hilbert space", 2011.

Geschichte der Chronologie der Späten Eisenzeit in Mitteleuropa und das Paradigma der Kontinuität

Rieckhoff, Sabine 29 May 2019 (has links)
Over the last 25 years german archaeology has substantially contributed to the discussion of the chronology of the late Iron Age. This article not only provides a chart summaris-ing the status quo, but rather a critical assessment of the history of this discussion in order to explain the course it has taken.

On b-colorings and b-continuity of graphs

Alkhateeb, Mais 28 June 2012 (has links)
A b-coloring of G is a proper vertex coloring such that there is a vertex in each color class, which is adjacent to at least one vertex in every other color class. Such a vertex is called a color-dominating vertex. The b-chromatic number of G is the largest k such that there is a b-coloring of G by k colors. Moreover, if for every integer k, between chromatic number and b-chromatic number, there exists a b-coloring of G by k colors, then G is b-continuous. Determining the b-chromatic number of a graph G and the decision whether the given graph G is b-continuous or not is NP-hard. Therefore, it is interesting to find new results on b-colorings and b-continuity for special graphs. In this thesis, for several graph classes some exact values as well as bounds of the b-chromatic number were ascertained. Among all we considered graphs whose independence number, clique number, or minimum degree is close to its order as well as bipartite graphs. The investigation of bipartite graphs was based on considering of the so-called bicomplement which is used to determine the b-chromatic number of special bipartite graphs, in particular those whose bicomplement has a simple structure. Then we studied some graphs whose b-chromatic number is close to its t-degree. At last, the b-continuity of some graphs is studied, for example, for graphs whose b-chromatic number was already established in this thesis. In particular, we could prove that Halin graphs are b-continuous.:Contents 1 Introduction 2 Preliminaries 2.1 Basic terminology 2.2 Colorings of graphs 2.2.1 Vertex colorings 2.2.2 a-colorings 3 b-colorings 3.1 General bounds on the b-chromatic number 3.2 Exact values of the b-chromatic number for special graphs 3.2.1 Graphs with maximum degree at most 2 3.2.2 Graphs with independence number close to its order 3.2.3 Graphs with minimum degree close to its order 3.2.4 Graphs G with independence number plus clique number at most number of vertices 3.2.5 Further known results for special graphs 3.3 Bipartite graphs 3.3.1 General bounds on the b-chromatic number for bipartite graphs 3.3.2 The bicomplement 3.3.3 Bicomplements with simple structure 3.4 Graphs with b-chromatic number close to its t-degree 3.4.1 Regular graphs 3.4.2 Trees and Cacti 3.4.3 Halin graphs 4 b-continuity 4.1 b-spectrum of special graphs 4.2 b-continuous graph classes 4.2.1 Known b-continuous graph classes 4.2.2 Halin graphs 4.3 Further graph properties concerning b-colorings 4.3.1 b-monotonicity 4.3.2 b-perfectness 5 Conclusion Bibliography

Hybrid application support for mobile information systems

Gruhn, Volker, Hülder, Malte 28 January 2019 (has links)
The wide-spread presence of wireless networks and the availability of mobile devices has enabled the development of mobile applications that take us a step closer to accomplishing Weiser’s vision of ubiquitous computing (Weiser, 1991). Unfortunately however, network connectivity is still not given anywhere and at any time. To increase the benefit of mobile applications, the next logical step is to provide support for an offline modethat allows to continuously work with an application, even when the device is not connected to a network. In this paper typical problems of replicating data are explained, possible solutions are discussed and two architectural patterns that could be used to implement hybrid support are illustrated.

”Så här gjorde vi inte i sexan”. Litteraturundervisning – språkfärdigheter eller livserfarenheter? : En kvalitativ studie om ämneskonceptioner och stadiumövergångar. / ”This is not what we did in the sixth grade ”. Literature education - language skills or life experiences? : A qualitative study about subject conceptions and transmission between school levels.

Fast, Jessica January 2021 (has links)
In this study I examine similarities and differences in subject views regarding literature education in secondary school and upper secondary school. The study shows how secondary school students are prepared for upper secondary school and how upper secondary school works to meet these students. The purpose of the study is to shed light on gaps between school stages that can affect students' development and learning in literature teaching. The empirical material consists of eight qualitative interviews that are of a semi-structured nature. Previous research is divided into three areas: Stage transitions, subject conceptions and literature teaching. The theoretical perspective is based on Lars-Göran Malmgren's three subject conceptions and Gunilla Molloy's fourth subject conception. The results show that all teachers use different subject conceptions alternately in teaching literature and that is different subject views in secondary school and upper secondary school. This is a consequence of the fact that there is no explicit cooperation between the schools before the students' transition. Both teachers in secondary school and upper secondary school demand greater collaboration in Swedish language and literature education. Based on the teachers' answers and the research, I conclude that the lack of consensus and cooperation between school stages is a common problem that needs to be raised in the general school debate.

Komplexnost a návaznost sociálních služeb pro jedince se zdravotním postižením / Comprehensiveness and Continuity of Services for Individuals with Disabilities

Lelková, Tereza January 2015 (has links)
Key words: Disability, mental retardation, social services, comprehensiveness, continuity, availability. Abstract (in English): The aim of the diploma thesis is to map the needs of persons with disabilities with a focus on persons with mental retardation from birth until the end of their life and also quantity, diversity and quality of social services with emphasis on continuity and comprehensiveness in the former district town of Rychnov nad Kneznou. In this thesis, I will focus on the challenges and needs of families in which a child with disabilities was born and the amount of support and care that the child received in the past and gets in the present. Also, I point out the difficulties associated with the availability of social services for people with disabilities and their families in a village located 20 km from the district town or regional town. In the practical part, I perform empirical investigation of families with children with disabilities where some of them will come from the district town and the surrounding area and some of them from more isolated parts of Rychnov region.

An evaluation of the role of an Intermediate Care facility in the continuum of care in Western Cape, South Africa

Mabunda, Sikhumbuzo Advisor January 2015 (has links)
BACKGROUND: A comprehensive Primary Health Care approach includes clear referral and continuity of care pathways. South Africa lacks data that describe Intermediate Care (IC) services and its role in the health system. This study aimed to describe the model of service provision at an IC facility and the role it plays in the continuity of care in Cape Town. METHODS: Sixty-eight patients (65% Response Rate) were recruited in a prospective cohort design over a one-month period in mid-2011. Patient data were collected from a clinical record review and an interviewer-administered questionnaire, administered at a median interval between admission and interview of 11 days to assess primary and second ary diagnosis, knowledge of and previous use of Home Based Care (HBC) services, reason for admission, demographics and information on referring institution. A telephonic interviewer-administered questionnaire to patients or their family members post-discharge recorded their vital status, use of HBC post-discharge and their level of satisfaction with care received at the IC facility. A Cox regression model was run to identify predictors of survival and the effect of a Care-plan on survival. Seventy staff members (82%) were recruited in a cross-sectional study using a self-administered questionnaire to describe demographics, level of education and skills in relation to what they did for patients and what they thought patients needed. RESULTS: Of the 68 participants, 38 % and 24% were referred from a secondary and tertiary hospital, respectively, and 78% were resident of a higher income community. Stroke (35%) was the most common single reason for admission at acute hospital. The three most common reasons reported by patients why care was better at the IC facility than the referring institution was the caring and friendly staff, the presence of physiotherapy and the wound care. Even though a large proportion of the IC inpatients had been admitted in a health facility on the year preceding the study, only 13 patients (21%) had used a Community Health Worker (CHW) ever before and only 25% (n=15) of the discharged patients had a confirmed CHW visit post-discharge. The presence of a Care-plan was significantly associated with a 62% lower risk of death (Hazard Ratio: 0.380; CI 0.149-0.972). Notably, 46% of staff members reported performing roles that were outside their scope of practice and there was a mismatch between what staff reported doing and their actual tasks. In addition, of the 57 patients that could be traced on follow-up 21(37%) had died. CONCLUSION: Patients and family understood this service as a caring environment that is primarily responsible for rehabilitation services. Furthermore, a Care-plan which extends beyond admission could have a significant impact on reducing mortality. IC services should therefore be recognised as an integral part of the health system and it should be accessed by all who need it.

Strategies to Mitigate Supply Chain Disruptions in Grocery Businesses

Bondwe, Gift Wilford 01 January 2019 (has links)
Supply chains have become more complex in the global economy, which has made supply chain disruptions inevitable. Disruptions can cause loss of profitability and hinder business growth. The goal of this multiple case study was to explore strategies to mitigate the effects of disruption in grocery store supply chains. The conceptual framework for this study was the resource dependency theory, which stipulates that firms rely on other businesses in the external environment for critical resources to create a competitive edge. Four purposively selected participants from 4 grocery store businesses in Northwest Arkansas participated in semistructured interviews and provided organizational documentation for this study. The participants were supply chain managers who had knowledge about disruptions and had successfully mitigated disruptions in their grocery stores' supply chains. Yin's 5-step process was used to analyze data, which involved compiling the database, disassembling data, reassembling data, interpreting data, and making a conclusion. Four themes emerged from the data analysis: supply chain partners' collaboration, multiple supply base and supplier qualification, inventory management, and information technology and communication. The uninterrupted flow of grocery merchandise to the community could result in a positive social change by helping to ensure that community members have timely access to food.

Family Continuity and Multiple Incarcerations Among African American Women

Dixon, Dorenda Karen 01 January 2016 (has links)
Scholars have studied incarceration among women in the United States of America for more than a decade, but few studies have explored the influence of repeated incarcerations among African American women and their family relationships. The research question for this study examined how African American women describe the effects of multiple incarcerations on family trust relationships and their ability to reintegrate into the family system and society. This multiple case study was conducted in Chicago, Illinois, and drew a sample of 4 African American women released from prison with histories of multiple incarcerations. The study explored their perspectives through a series of semistructured, in-depth interviews. Data consisted of narrative interview transcripts and artifacts collected and analyzed using a framework of feminist theory and critical criminology. Findings from the analysis indicated these African American women experienced profound and long-term devastation to relationships with family and friends following periods of multiple incarcerations. Repeated periods of imprisonment negatively altered their perceptions of themselves and reduced their social engagement with others. Results of repeated incarcerations included (a) broken trust with loved ones; (b) resentment, anger, and blame; and (c) permanent damage to social and family networks. This study contributes to social change by increasing understanding of the repercussions and effects of multiple incarcerations on African American women and family continuity, and the study offers insight into guiding program development to help families rebuild and stabilize.
