High density and high reliability thin film embedded capacitors on organic and silicon substratesKumar, Manish 20 November 2008 (has links)
With the digital systems moving towards higher frequencies, lower operating voltages and higher power, supplying the required current at the right voltage and at the right time to facilitate timely switching of the CMOS circuits becomes increasingly challenging. The board level power supply cannot meet these requirements directly due to the high inductance of the package interconnections. To overcome this problem, several thin film decoupling capacitors have to be placed on the IC or close to the IC in the package. Two approaches were pursued for high-k thin film decoupling capacitors.
1) Low cost sol-gel based thin film capacitors on organic board compatible Cu-foils
2) RF-sputtered thin film capacitors on silicon substrate for silicon compatible processes
While sol-gel provides cost effective technology, sputtered ferroelectric devices are more compatible from manufacturing stand point with the existing technology. Nano-crystalline barium titanate and barium strontium titanate film capacitor devices were fabricated and characterized for organic and silicon substrates respectively.
Sol-gel barium titanate films were fabricated first on a bare Cu-foil and then transferred to organic board through a standard lamination process. With process optimization and film doping, a capacitance density of 3 µF/cm2 was demonstrated with breakdown voltage greater than 12V. Leakage current characteristics, breakdown voltages, and electrical reliability of the devices were significantly improved through doping of the barium titanate films and modified film chemistry. Films and interfaces were characterized with high resolution electron microscopy, SEM, XRD, and DC leakage measurements.
RF sputtering was selected for ferroelectric thin film integration on silicon substrate. Barium strontium titanate (BST) films were deposited on various electrodes sputtered on silicon substrates. The main focus was to improve interface stabilities for high-k thin films on Si to yield large-area defect-free devices. Effect of bottom electrode selection and barrier layers on device yield and performance were investigated carefully. High yield and high device performance was observed for certain electrode and barrier layer combination. A capacitance density up to 1 µF/cm2 was demonstrated with a breakdown voltage above 15 V on large area, 7 mm2, devices.
These two techniques can potentially meet mid-high frequency future decoupling requirements.

[en] This work dissertation presents the results obtained from the conjunction of two proposal techniques for the use in modern systems of communications: the Spatial Modulation and the Decoupling Signal Detection. In the first part are discussed the theorical bases of the signal detection with Spatial Modulation, a comparison between the traditional MIMO systems and the SM-MIMO systems, a bibliographical review about previousworks in the topic and the different kinds of detectors that can be used in systems with Spatial Modulation. Then the different techniques of signal decoupling are discussed, which allow the separation in the radio base station of the signals coming from the different classes of users, to simplify and adapt the process of detection and the requirements of the user in the network. Finally a performance analysis in terms of the bit error rate and computational complexity in terms of average number of flops required fot the vector of symbols detected, is done for the studied detectors in the dissertation, using the same different techniques of decoupling studied in this work.

High Gain DC-DC and Active Power Decoupling Techniques for Photovoltaic InvertersJanuary 2017 (has links)
abstract: The dissertation encompasses the transformer-less single phase PV inverters for both the string and microinverter applications. Two of the major challenge with such inverters include the presence of high-frequency common mode leakage current and double line frequency power decoupling with reliable capacitors without compromising converter power density. Two solutions are presented in this dissertation: half-bridge voltage swing (HBVS) and dynamic dc link (DDCL) inverters both of which completely eliminates the ground current through topological improvement. In addition, through active power decoupling technique, the capacitance requirement is reduced for both, thus achieving an all film-capacitor based solution with higher reliability. Also both the approaches are capable of supporting a wide range of power factor.
Moreover, wide band-gap devices (both SiC and GaN) are used for implementing their hardware prototypes. It enables the switching frequency to be high without compromising on the converter efficiency. Also it allows a reduced magnetic component size, further enabling a high power density solution, with power density far beyond the state-of-the art solutions.
Additionally, for the transformer-less microinverter application, another challenge is to achieve a very high gain DC-DC stage with a simultaneous high conversion efficiency. An extended duty ratio (EDR) boost converter which is a hybrid of switched capacitors and interleaved inductor technique, has been implemented for this purpose. It offers higher converter efficiency as most of the switches encounter lower voltage stress directly impacting switching loss; the input current being shared among all the interleaved converters (inherent sharing only in a limited duty ratio), the inductor conduction loss is reduced by a factor of the number of phases.
Further, the EDR boost converter has been studied for both discontinuous conduction mode (DCM) operations and operations with wide input/output voltage range in continuous conduction mode (CCM). A current sharing between its interleaved input phases is studied in detail to show that inherent sharing is possible for only in a limited duty ratio span, and modification of the duty ratio scheme is proposed to ensure equal current sharing over all the operating range for 3 phase EDR boost. All the analysis are validated with experimental results. / Dissertation/Thesis / Doctoral Dissertation Electrical Engineering 2017

The main objective of this dissertation is to explain heterogeneity in conformity within multinational enterprises (MNEs). More specifically, I focus on what makes an MNE’s subsidiaries implement practices that are consistent with the policy designed by the MNE’s headquarters. Given the increasing normative pressures on MNEs, managing conformity within them is of strategic importance. Corporate social responsibility (CSR) is an example of such mounting norms. My work relies on a unique set of data (including surveys, archival data and interviews) I collected on CSR practices in one MNE between 2012 and 2014. Overall, the findings of my three essays show that heterogeneous conformity within MNEs stems not only from diverse internal and external pressures exerted on subsidiaries, but also from (1) the subsidiaries’ varying levels of attention to normative demands that depend on peers’ behaviors, (2) their heterogeneous internalization of the Group policy which reduces peers’ and headquarters’ influence and (3) the specific characteristics and institutionalization levels of different practices.

Previous issue date: 2010-02-01 / This thesis presents a new structure of robust adaptive controller applied to mobile robots (surface mobile robot) with nonholonomic constraints. It acts in the dynamics and
kinematics of the robot, and it is split in two distinct parts. The first part controls the robot dynamics, using variable structure model reference adaptive controllers. The second part controls the robot kinematics, using a position controller, whose objective is to make the robot to reach any point in the cartesian plan. The kinematic controller is based only on
information about the robot configuration. A decoupling method is adopted to transform the linear model of the mobile robot,
a multiple-input multiple-output system, into two decoupled single-input single-output systems, thus reducing the complexity of designing the controller for the mobile robot.
After that, a variable structure model reference adaptive controller is applied to each one of the resulting systems. One of such controllers will be responsible for the robot position and the other for the leading angle, using reference signals generated by the position controller. To validate the proposed structure, some simulated and experimental results using differential drive mobile robots of a robot soccer kit are presented. The simulator uses the main characteristics of real physical system as noise and non-linearities such as deadzone
and saturation. The experimental results were obtained through an C++ program applied to the robot soccer kit of Microrobot team at the LACI/UFRN. The simulated and experimental results are presented and discussed at the end of the text / Esta tese apresenta o desenvolvimento de uma nova estrutura de controlador adaptativo robusto aplicado a sistemas rob?ticos m?veis com rodas (rob? m?vel de superf?cie) e restri??es n?o-holon?micas de movimento.

Based upon the export product space, this paper shows the main features of the export product composition of Peru and its regions. With respect to export baskets, these include: a high con- centration in few commodities; a relatively low degree of similarity between products; relatively high levels of productivity at the international level, and; enormous undiscovered or untapped export potential. In addition, this paper analyzes the hypothesis that the natural resource curse affects regional growth, employment and export diversification. Subject to the limitations of the data and the heterogeneous panel methods employed, estimation results indicate that the share of natural capital out of the total tangible wealth and natural capital per capita seems, on average and in a relatively statistically robust way, to spur growth, primary employment and export concentration in a few products. Consequently, the natural resource curse for the Peruvian regions is not about growth but about low regional development, since such resources do not have a significant impact on secondary and tertiary employment or on export product diversification.

The goal of this work was to improve the double resonance technique called Broadband Heteronuclear Decoupling. This technique consists on eliminate the dipolar heteronuclear interaction that exists between rare nucleous (13C, for example) and abundant nucleous that exists around (1H, for example). To improve some techniques of Broadband Heteronuclear Decoupling (BBDec), an electronic apparatus was made, which consisted of design and implementation of radiofrequency pulse modulators with phase control, special BBDec pulse sequences programming and digital control systems. Diagnostic à base de modèles non linéaires. : Application au circuit carburant d'une turbomachine / Nonlinear model based diagnosis : Application to the fuel system of a gas turbineSifi, Mohcine 28 May 2015 (has links)
The current gas turbine regulation systems are based on complex architectures that manufacturers tend to make more modular with more cost effective technologies while ensuring a greater or equal level of reliability. In this context, the fuel system health monitoring, which aims to identify critical hydraulic components dysfunction, allows to reduce maintenance costs, to improve maintainability level and to ensure gas turbine availability. The present study focuses on the development of performant and robust diagnosis methods for the detection and isolation of faults affecting primary fuel system hydraulic functions. Existing nonlinear model based residual generation methods are presented and applied to the fuel system. The analytical approach for decoupling, combined with extended Kalman filters, helps fault isolation by generating residual structures. A new approach based on differential flatness theory is proposed for nonlinear systems fault diagnosis with an application to the fuel system. Sliding mode differentiators are used to estimate derived signals that are necessary for the application of some residual generation methods. Numerical simulations illustrate the efficiency of obtained results. An experimental application is presented using a real data set from a partial test bench provided by Turbomeca company of the SAFRAN group.

Conception de systèmes antennaires MIMO multi-standards LTE pour les nœuds relais / Design of LTE MIMO antenna systems dedicated to relay nodesSadaoui, Lamia 13 December 2018 (has links)
To deploy the fourth generation called 4G/LTE or "LTE advanced", mobile operators face strong constraints: they must ensure a good geographic coverage but also an excellent quality of service. This requires new methods that go far beyond what has been implemented for GSM or 3G networks. The telecom industry has created the concept of "small cells" that reinforce the "macrocells" deployed by the operators. This thesis tries to provide a solution to this problem and more particularly through the development of antennas for a product called "smart cell". This study, supported by the FUI project NETCOM, should enable mobile operators to extend the coverage and capacity of their networks at a lower cost while maintaining a good quality of service. To do that, the aim of this thesis more particularly is the design of a multi-band multi-antennas MIMO system (Multiple-Input Multiple-Output) dedicated to relay nodes for the deployment of the fourth generation 4G/LTE or "LTE advanced". The antenna design considers the coverage of the three LTE operating frequency bands and must be compatible with them. The (700-900 MHz) frequency band is used for the LTE 700 and LTE 800 bands, (1710-1880 MHz) for the GSM 1800/LTE 1800 bands and the last (2500-2690 MHz) for the LTE 2600 bands. In our first study, a reference system with 4 access was studied in simulation and measured, for only the low band 700-900 MHz. In a second study, we tried to cover the other two higher bands to have a tri-band system using the parasitic elements to get a three-band MIMO system with 4 access. We studied then, the influence of the environment close to the antenna system, with the presence of a metallic radiator. As we often encounter a frequent problem in multi-antenna systems which is the coupling problem between the different access of a multi antenna system, so we have studied and realized a decoupling technique. This technique was used to enhance the isolation between the different access.
