Learners' and educators' perceptions of cell-phone use in the teaching and learning of Physical Science in Moretele high schools of the Bojanala District in South Africa

Muyambi, Godfrey C. 11 1900 (has links)
This study investigated learners’ and educators’ perceptions of cell-phone use in the learning of Physical Sciences. The theory underpinning the study was the adoption model based on the theory of reasoned action (TRA) and the theory of technology acceptance (TAM). A mixed-method approach was applied. The instruments used to collect data were questionnaires, focus groups and interview schedules. The strategies used to analyse data were thematic analysis, cluster analysis and factor analysis. Data were coded and organized into descriptive themes, and differences between variables were noted. A mixed-gender sample of science learners aged 15 to 22 years and educators participated in the study. Both the qualitative and the quantitative data revealed that the learners and the educators had predominantly positive perceptions of the use of cell phones in the learning of Physical Sciences. / Science and Technology Education / M. Romero Alejos, Alexis Lorgio 02 December 2020 (has links)
In the current context, the Peruvian government promotes remote education on different platforms at the national level to maintain educational spaces in the midst of the health emergency. The following research analyzes the teaching digital competence and the implementation of the contents to virtuality at the secondary level of the Virgen Peregrina del Rosario 2074 school in San Martín de Porres - Lima, Peru. Initially, the interaction in the virtual classrooms of the different teachers is observed and in parallel, the perceptions about the development of the classes are collected in the face of the adaptation caused by social isolation. The obtained data is collected through interviews with the teaching staff. Based on these methodological instruments, it is sought to analyze the implementation of virtual content and remote education as a mandatory measure to not stop classes in the social crisis of COVID - 19. / Trabajo de investigación

Barriers to equal access to eHealth in Stockholm : A qualitative study

Abougazar, Eman Silmy January 2022 (has links)
The aim behind this study was to observe and understand barriers to access the eHealth system equally. The study was conducted in Stockholm based on qualitative data in which semi- structured interviews were conducted among 15 interviewees from different localities of Stockholm. The findings from the collected data revealed that language barriers, lack of knowledge about digital literacy, unawareness of Swedish healthcare services, psychological and social barriers, safety and privacy concerns, and the lack of an e-identification are all major barriers to accessing the eHealth system. From the data, it has also been observed that the main causes of the aforementioned hurdles are based on varied socioeconomic levels, literacy conditions of an individual, cultural background, and age. Another important observation shows that highly qualified people with limited language abilities have a difficult time using eHealth services.

Instructors and Underrepresented Students in Microbiology: Educational Digital Tool Use, Trends, Perceptions, and Success

Bradshaw-Ward, Danita M. 12 1900 (has links)
The purpose of this three-article dissertation was to expand knowledge and theory regarding digital tool use in biology laboratory courses, such as microbiology, which requires specific laboratory skill development through the perception of instructors and students. Article 1 establishes the broad digital literacy and fluency problem in education by providing definitions and the context behind digital literacy fluency and its impact on acquisition of knowledge in digital learning environments. The study provided a picture of the lack of knowledge about the use of digital tools in education and practical problems around appropriate implementation, infrastructure, and preparedness. Article 2 presents results of a literature research study about the foundational, pandemic-induced, and current digital tool use in biology and microbiology lab courses. Recommendations for improvement in digital tool implementation, pedagogical approach, and appropriate selection to meet learning outcomes were provided. Article 3 describes a 3-layered study to build a new instrument to understand minority-student perceptions of identity and digital literacy and technology barriers on student success in STEM courses. The study identified challenges and benefits of digital tool use in virtual microbiology lab courses, unique challenges of underrepresented populations, and the need to develop an instrument to capture the context of this unique population.

The South African Council for Educators point system policy : implications for the professional development of teachers in Gauteng

Munnhar, Pradhika 21 April 2021 (has links)
Abstract in English, Afrikaans and Sesotho / This work explores the continuous professional teacher development point system policy and the implications it has on the professional development of teachers. A qualitative study was undertaken in two secondary schools on the West Rand in Gauteng. Data was collected through document analysis, observations and semi-structured interviews. Results indicated that there is a mismatch between what is outlined in the policy and what the teachers are practising. It became evident that the majority of teachers in this study had limited knowledge of the policy although implementation of the policy began in 2014. It was concluded that the point system policy is not contributing effectively to the professional development of teachers in Gauteng. / Mosebetsi ona o hlahloba ts'ebetso ea litsebi tsa ntswetsopele ea litsebi le liphehello tsa eona ho ntlafatso ea litsebi tsa matichere.
