An exploration into mystical experience in the context of health care

Witte, Alison Schell 30 June 2007 (has links)
In this qualitative phenomenological study, the researcher interviewed 18 hospitalised patients and community members in rural Appalachia to learn about their mystical experiences in the context of health care. A loosely structured interview format addressed factors that initiate mystical experience and essential qualities of mystical experience. In addition, the researcher examined the nursing process, focusing on assessments and actions which supported the participants in sharing their experiences. The researcher also considered her response to being the recipient of these shared experiences. Data were analysed using the crystallisation/immersion method and concept mapping. Mystical experience was conceptualised as a process incorporating initiation, occurrence, maturation, and integration of mystical experience. Essential aspects of the mystical experience itself were found to include sensory-motor perception, interaction with the supernatural, interaction with dead and living members of the family, conviction of reality, cognition, dynamic tension and emotional intensity. Nursing actions which supported the participant included listening and support. The researcher's response to the participants' sharing their experiences included tension, intimacy and empathy, sense of awe and autonomic responses. In addition, the researcher developed an appreciation of the mystical in everyday experience. / Health Studies / D. Litt. et Phil. (Health Studies)

Êxtase, poesia e dança em Rumi e Hafiz / Ecstasy, poetry and dance in Rumi and Hafiz

Leandra Elena Yunis 16 August 2013 (has links)
The mystical ecstasy is usually studied from the analysis of rituals of incorporation, possession of spirits, trance curanderia and other processes that often involve music to provide altered states of consciousness. Whereas Sufi rituals integrate music, dance and poetry with purpose ecstatic, this work addresses the relationship between poetry and mystical dance in Rumi and Hafiz proposing a methodology that uses notions of dance language for analyzing poems.

Le Clézio / Ecstasy of Regard : study of Regard in the work of J.M.G Le Clézio

Lian, Ying 02 June 2015 (has links)
Jean-Marie Gustave Le Clezio is one of the greatest living writers who write in French. Regard is a persistent theme in his work. Regard signifies not only the senses and consciousness, two faculties that could perceive the inner world and the outside world, but also a divine force or a supernatural gift to exceed the human faculties for the real knowledge. It leads to material ecstasy and total communion with the absolute. Regard is considered as the horizon between the inside and the outside, between immanence and transcendence. It holds the key to writing based on poetic ecstasy. Because of its middle position and uncertain nature, Regard is an essential presence in the writer’s journey to the “other side” of the world. We will study especially the relation of Regard and his writing of material ecstasy.

Wiklund, Maya January 2022 (has links)
This essay is a study about how Carl Ulrik Sondén, a Swedish doctor during the 19th century, described and with his descriptions medicalized religious ecstasy in his thesis from 1842. The essay uses Vera Syrakvash theoretical model of medicalization to analyse how Sondén medicalized religious ecstasy, Chorea s:t Viti, to show how his thesis plays a part in the medicalization of Chorea s:t Viti. Sondéns medicalization, and how it is a part of the secularization that took place in Sweden during the 19th century is also discussed. To analyse this, Thorleif Pettersson’s work about secularization is used, and Sondéns thesis is applied to Petterssons theory of the three levels of secularization. The essay shows how Sondéns thesis fills all three of Syrakvash’s levels of medicalization and therefore fully medicalizes Chorea s:t Viti. This medicalization is then applied in to Pettersson’s theoretic model, and it fulfils the first level of secularization.

Análises físicas e químicas de comprimidos de ecstasy apreendidos no município de São Paulo / Physical and chemical analyses of ecstasy tablets seized in São Paulo city

Lapachinske, Silvio Fernandes 04 June 2009 (has links)
Drug profiling or the characterization of seized drug samples to link seizures made at different times and/or locations to their common clandestine origin, has long been a goal of law enforcement agencies. Considering the trafficking of ecstasy tablets, the knowledge of chemical and physical properties is of utmost importance to discriminate between different seizures. In this context this study proposed a new approach to establish links among seizures of ecstasy tablets by using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), thermogravimetry (TG) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). Besides this characterization, physical appearance (logotype, color, weight, diameter and thickness), identification/quantification of active constituents by gas chromatography/ mass spectrometry (GC/MS) and in vitro drug dissolution assays were performed too. A method employing liquid-liquid extraction was also developed for the isolation of 3,4-methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA) from ecstasy tablets and afterwards MDMA was crystallized to MDMA hydrochloride (MDMA.HCl). Seventeen different lots of various logotypes and colors of confiscated ecstasy tablets from seizures in São Paulo city, Brazil, were analyzed. Chlorophenylpiperazine (CPP) was found only as an active ingredient in one batch. The others tablets contained only MDMA and the content of MDMA varied from 29 to 115-mg/tablet. The weight values of tablets varied from 143 to 341-mg, the thickness from 3,2 to 5,8-mm and the diameter from 7,0 to 9,5-mm. DSC/TG curves and X-ray difratograms of the ecstasy tablets allowed distinguishing those with similar profile, for both techniques, which is important to identify the source of production. The low degree of MDMA.HCl crystallinity of some ecstasy tablets didnt prevent DSC and XRD characterization. These results can be useful for forensic intelligence work application.
