Sociala medier, på gott eller ont? : En kvantitativ studie bland Facebook-användare avseende användandet av sociala medier och psykisk hälsa / Social networks, good or bad? : A quantitative study amongst Facebook users regarding the use of social networks and mental health

Sandelin, Elin, Nilsson, Fredrik January 2014 (has links)
Sammanlagt ingick 108 respondenter i studien.

What corporate social media content leads to higher consumer response : A study of local brands in Sweden

Åstrand, Adam, Abd, Naimul January 2016 (has links)
Background: Social media is connecting billions of people from across the globe by fulfilling basic human needs of socializing and getting entertained. While companies are now actively turning to social media to know their customers better, build strong relationships, and spread marketing messages, many are still struggling to figure out what corporate social media content actually works on social media. Purpose: This research aims to understand what type of corporate social media content generates the most consumer response. Methodology: This study employs content analysis of recent social media posts by a selection of top brands in Sweden on two main social media platforms: Facebook and Twitter. A total of ten brands with origin from Sweden were selected, based on 2015 Swedish Brand Award ranking, and their posts were examined to find out influence of corporate social media content on consumer response. A total of 400 posts were examined on verified Twitter profiles and Facebook Pages of these brands. Findings: Type of content which refers to whether the post has image, video, or text-only content, and content orientation which can be task-oriented, self-oriented, or interaction-oriented have a statistically significant relationship with consumer response. In terms of type of content, posts with video and image content can lead to higher consumer response and in terms of content orientation task-oriented content can lead to higher consumer response. Other variables in the study, namely, communication cues, traceability cues, and time-frame have not emerged as significant in this study. Implications: When developing corporate social media content, it’s important to focus on type of content and content orientation. In terms of type of content, managers need to focus on having video and image content as this could lead to higher consumer response and in terms of content orientation, content related to brand / product / promotion (task-oriented) can lead to higher consumer response. Limitations: The study relies only on two main social media platforms and on the last 20 posts of each brand on each of these platforms and doesn’t take into account any seasonality as a full year period has not been studied. The study also relies on a general brand ranking list based in Sweden and not a ranking of brands on social media space. Further Research Suggestions: Future studies could focus on bringing more social media platforms into inquiry, improving sampling robustness by having a larger sample size and broader coverage of time period to account for any seasonality in data, comparing results between different countries, having a broader mix of brands in terms of type of business area or sector or stage of brand development, and blending together the corporate and consumer perspectives. Finally, to account for platform size differences, researchers need to come up with a measure that controls for this variation across platforms. Keywords: Social Media Content, Social Media Platforms, Facebook, Twitter, Communication

Lantz, Imad January 2017 (has links)
This study analyses how young women present themselves on social media, using Facebook and Instagram as their main networking tools. The purpose of this study is to find out how these women use social media, how they motivate their choice between Facebook and Instagram, how Facebook and Instagram create the needs for these women, and how these women decide the difference between Facebook and Instagram. Previous surveys from earlier studies regarding this topic have been collected trough books and internet. Semistructured qualitative analysis was used in this study to collect data from these women. The collected data gave a result that acknowledgement became a common endeavour of all the 7 respondents. Social media can contribute to something positive, such as keeping in touch with their loved ones, enhancing the self-confidence of individuals, and providing important information. Facebook och dess marknadsföring riktad mot ungdomar : En studie om ungdomars attityd mot marknadsföring på Facebook

Abrahamsson, Adam, Secic, Kenan January 2016 (has links)
Abstract Title: A study on teenager’s attitude towards marketing on Facebook Authors: Adam Abrahamsson and Kenan Secic Supervisor: Anders Wrenne Department: Blekinge Institute of Technology Course: A bachelor thesis in business administration, FE1453 Scope: 15 credits                Purpose:The aim of this study is to contribute new knowledge about how marketing on Facebook can affect teenagers, as well as what awareness and understanding there is in this target group about marketing on Facebook. We are also interested in looking at whether there are any differences between the teenagers from the perspective of critical and rational thinking. Method: To be able to answer our questions and fulfill our purpose, we chose to conduct a survey in four different schools, in the district of Karlskrona. The survey was carried out in the seventh and ninth classes as these are expected to have students who are 14 and 16 years old. In total, we received 169 responses, of which 86 came from the younger target group and 83 came from the older target group. We picked schools because we considered the classrooms as a suitable environment for a survey, and a place where we can gather a large number of people from our target audience in one place. Because of the lack of resources in terms of time, all four schools where from the same district. Conclusion: The main conclusions of this study are that 14 and 16-year-old Swedish adolescents, in Karlskrona, generally have a positive attitude toward marketing on Facebook. But we can also notice that there is a difference in attitude toward marketing on Facebook between 14 and 16-year-olds depending on what kind of marketing it is. We believe that this difference may be because the age groups are at different stages of cognitive development and therefore are at different stages in their rational and critical thinking.

Facebook Brand Page: an Exploratory Study of Facebook Brand Page Attributes and Their Influence on Purchase Intentions

Karam, Marian T. 12 1900 (has links)
This study explored attributes of a Facebook brand page (FBP). Seven variables were derived from the framework and applied to FBPs. The goals of this research were to discover which attributes contribute to a successful FBP, determine which attributes increase purchase intentions, and help marketers determine where to focus their efforts. A total of 421 surveys were gathered from men and women ages 18 and older. The methods of this research included factor analysis and multiple regression analysis. Results yielded two loading factors for the trustworthiness variable and supported hypotheses of trustworthiness increasing purchase intentions. It was also discovered that participation positively influences purchase intentions. It is advised that information content be monitored to avoid information overload.

Consumer Shopping Motivations with Facebook Retailers: Utilitarian Versus Hedonic

Anderson, Kelley B. 05 1900 (has links)
Retailers increasingly are connecting with consumers using social media. This two-way, networked communication method facilitates word-of-mouth that may ultimately impact retailer loyalty. The purpose of this study was to examine motivations of consumers’ purchase intention from apparel Facebook retailers, and the relationship between purchase intention and loyalty. Consumer motivations were examined in terms of the utilitarian values of cost, convenience, and information and the hedonic values of experiential shopping, bargain perception, sociability, and curiosity. The relationship of purchase intention and loyalty also was investigated. The instrument was developed from existing scales drawn from literature. A consumer panel (N = 250) of Facebook users that connect to apparel retailers was used to collect data through an online Qualtrics survey. Statistical analysis included descriptive statistics of frequency and crosstab distributions, factor analysis, and regression analysis. Factor analysis resulted in four dimensions including convenience, information, experience, and bargains. All motivators were found to be significantly related to both purchase intention and loyalty for this consumer group. The variable with the strongest relationship to both purchase intention and loyalty was experience. Additionally, a strong relationship was found between purchase intention and loyalty. Lastly, practical business implications are reviewed, in addition to limitations of the study.

Using social media to engage students in campus life

Ternes, Jacob A. January 1900 (has links)
Master of Science / Department of Special Education, Counseling and Student Affairs / Doris Carroll / Social media is the use of online applications and websites to create and exchange user-generated content. These websites are becoming ever more popular with college aged students to connect with their peers, businesses, and areas of interest. These websites could be taken advantage of to provide new opportunities to engage students in campus life. This paper examines the concept of student engagement and the role of social media in engaging student with campus life. A brief overview of Facebook and Twitter, the two most popular social networks, is provided. This paper also reviews the limited body of research available on the impact of social media on student engagement. It is argued here that social media can be a positive influence on student engagement within the college campus and could lead to improvements in the way that higher education professional assist with student development. Due to the limited amount of academic research available, popular news sources as well as websites and blogs were examined to determine the most influential uses of social media, and this report makes recommendations for incorporating social media use into higher education. Social media allows higher education professionals to “meet students where they are” and provide for opportunities for engagement and student development. If the recommendations made in this report are implemented by student affairs professionals, they could be assessed for their impact on student engagement and development in the future.

The relationship between passion for the cause and sense of virtual community in a Facebook-based cause-related virtual community

Conradie, Bruce January 2016 (has links)
A dissertation submitted to the Faculty of Commerce, Law and Management, University of the Witwatersrand, Wits Business School to fulfilments of the requirements of a Master of Management by Research 30 March 2015 / Our understanding of the psychological construct of sense of community has been developing steadily, particularly since the publication of the seminal work by McMillan and Chavis (1986). Pertinent to this study, the sense of community construct has been applied to the virtual world, leading to the concept of sense of virtual community (SoVC), that is, a sense of community felt by members of a virtual community. This study synthesises the findings of the extant literature to build a multi-dimensional model of sense of community. Moving to a specific context, this study examines SoVC among members of cause-related virtual communities. Examples of such communities can be found in the Facebook communities that have developed around the various branches of the Red Cross and of World Vision. Among members of such communities, some level of support for the mediating cause organisation can be presumed to exist. This is referred to in this dissertation as Passion for the Cause (PFC). Empirical and theoretical work on the interaction between SoVC and PFC is lacking. This study investigates the extent to which SoVC and PFC are associated and seeks to bring clarity to the nature of the association. The research instrument was an online self-completion survey. The Facebook pages of South African cause organisations were used to invite community members to complete the survey. Respondents were participants in the Facebook-based communities of South African cause organisations (n = 67). The research instrument included a scale for SoVC (12 items) and a scale for PFC (6 items). An exploratory factor analysis was done to identify the latent factors of SoVC in this context. Adequate support was found for the conceptualisation of three factors of SoVC, namely, General Benefit, Friendship, and Helping. This was followed by a series of multiple regression analyses aimed at testing the relationships between PFC and SoVC and its factors. SoVC and PFC were found to be highly correlated. Furthermore, PFC was found to significantly predict SoVC. It was also found to predict the SoVC factor conceptualised as General Benefit. Finally, SoVC was found to predict PFC. Notably, PFC was found to be less able to predict SoVC than was SoVC able to predict PFC. Implications for the moderators of cause-related virtual communities are discussed. / MB2016
