Travailleurs immigrants qualifiés à Sherbrooke réseaux et stratégies d'insertion socioprofessionnelle

Bernier, Estelle January 2012 (has links)

The Borderlanders

Rodriguez, Marcel Bernard 22 September 2010 (has links)
The following report describes the pre-production, production, and post-production of the short film, The Borderlanders, set and shot in South Texas. Its story centers on an immigrant youth who tries to escape the tensions that arise in one family coming together after many years of forced separation because of current immigration policies. It is a meditation on family dynamics and the intimate politics of the border. The report discusses the thought process behind creating images of Latinos in film, the writing of the film, and analyzes the creative choices that gave shape to the film. The original screenplay is included as well as the credits. / text

Alien citizen : do stereotypes of undocumented Mexican immigrants generalize to Mexican Americans?

Martinez, Mercedes Shannon 1980- 16 October 2014 (has links)
September 11th 2001 led to an increase in the intensity of the already existing discourses surrounding what it means to be an American, with a particular focus on the Southern border of the United States and Mexican immigration as a perceived threat to national security. This study seeks to address the Latino threat narrative (Chavez, 2008) through measuring how perceptions of stereotypes and realistic and symbolic threat differ as a function of foreigness using a 2 (positive vs. negative scenario) x 4 (Mexican American, undocumented immigrant, Latino and Anglo) design. / text

My culture is a part of me" : On the relationship between ethnic identity and ego identity

Tingström, Emma January 2008 (has links)
This essay examines the relationship between ethnic identity and ego identity among adults. Sweden is a multi cultural country and therefore this relationship is important to examine. A qualitative interview study was conducted with nine interviewees, who live in Sweden and originate from a culture outside Europe. The culture was shown to be an important part of the personality, which indicates that that ethnic identity is a part of ego identity. The interviewees experienced themself to be a mix of two cultures. A majority of the interviewees had an achieved identity, but periods of diffusion occured as a result of adaption problems and limitations. The study contributes with advanced knowledge about identity and personality development of adults.</p>

South Asians as Medical Scapegoats in British Columbia and the Pacific Coast States, 1900-1924

Wallace, SARAH ISABEL 26 September 2013 (has links)
This transnational study of the first-wave South Asian immigrant experience in British Columbia and the Pacific coast states shows how elected officials at all levels of government, bureaucrats, union leaders, physicians, members of the press, and the general public utilized purported public health concerns to justify South Asian exclusion and disenfranchisement. While all Asian groups living along the Pacific coast faced opposition to their immigration and settlement, India’s subordinate status within the British Empire, and a sustained western association of South Asians with disease, uniquely positioned North American discourse on South Asians at the intersection of colonial theory, Orientalism, and medicalized nativism in the first two decades of the twentieth century. / Thesis (Ph.D, History) -- Queen's University, 2013-09-25 20:19:03.29

The practice of ethnic community representation in Winnipeg

Kondakov, Alexey 23 January 2017 (has links)
Representation of ethnic communities is a matter of importance for Canada. Members of various ethnic communities tend to be habitual non-voters, not engaged into political life. This thesis examines how five Liberal Members of Parliament from the city of Winnipeg Interviews were used to get a better understanding of practices, used by five Liberal Members of Parliament from the city of Winnipeg during and after their campaigns in 2015. This allowed for a better understanding of how do MPs reach out to their ethnic community constituents, learn about their needs. It was found that differences in the way MPs reach out to ethnic communities were mainly attributing to differences in riding ecology, personal view and preferences, and communities MPs work with. / February 2017

Taiwanese immigrants to Canada : an exploratory study

Blundell, Nancy Leigh Willer. 10 April 2008 (has links)
This thesis examines the immigration process and adjustment patterns of recent Taiwanese immigrants to Canada. Using data derived fiom participant interviews with Taiwanese immigrants living in Vancouver, Victoria, and Nanaimo, the experiences of the immigrants challenge existing literature that groups Chinese immigrants fiom Taiwan, Hong Kong and The People's Republic of China under the same umbrella. The thesis also looks at Canada's immigration policies, how they influenced the type of immigrant Canada seeks and how they contribute to 'backlash racism', and examines Canada's multiculturalism policy and its ability to defend against 'backlash racism'. The findings of this exploratory study, while not able to give definitive answers, are also used to question the validity of recent international migration theories.
