L'amour et la haine : (Mythologie-Philosophie-Psychanalyse) / Love and hate : (Mythology-Philosophy-Psychoanalysis)Zarifi, Asmaiel 17 December 2012 (has links)
This historical research since the origins, from the first texts written by mankind, try to recount the mind path (or way) from where these notions of hate and love emerge from sexuality and are expressed through mythology via a process both conscious but also unconscious from generation to generation. Therefore, this retrospection tries to discover the unique origin of love and hate that bursts from all humanity from historical times, and even before when a common culture was elaborated as an individual personality, transition of man toward and within temporality, symbolic and imaginary. Anaximandre, Zoroastre, Empédocle d’Agrigente, Platon, Nietzsche, then Freud and Lacan state that the emergence of Man in the dimension of temporality, and subsequently in the language, is consubstancial (or integral part of) of his emancipation from the nature, but he is compelled to pay this transition by hate and love.

Dire de ne pas dire : du silence éloquent à l'énonciation tragique des déclarations d'amour chez Racine / To Say or Not To Say : the Eloquence of Silence and the Tragic Enunciation of Love Declarations in Racine’s TheaterTamas, Jennifer 29 October 2012 (has links)
I argue that Racine represents the fight against the unspoken. Each play reveals something that is unacceptable and impossible to articulate. How does one state all that cannot be stated? Above all, how to avoid stirring the terror of the listener? Silence, whether it represents a pure absence of words or a murmuring of voices that inhibit an answer, finds itself at the core of the discursive exchange. The declaration of love emerges from the unsaid and brings about a permanent tension between « the spoken word » and « silence. » This study is based on the following paradox: speech is impossible, but the reticence to speak, once overcome, induces an irreversible process. The declaration of love is the symbol of this process. Its utterance represents the ultimate tragic enunciation as it engenders Fate. To show one’s love is to condemn the other. The fatal oracle expresses itself through the words of characters in love.Racine inaugurates a new theater of love in which the declaration corresponds to a deep existential crisis. The Racinian character asserts his subjectivity by expressing his love, though it violates the other.

The Romantic Poet in the Imaginary Future - John Keats in the Hyperion Cantos by Dan SimmonsGräslund, Christian January 2014 (has links)
The four novels Hyperion, The Fall ofHyperion, Endymionand The Rise of Endymionconstitute the Hyperion Cantosby the American science fiction writer Dan Simmons. Thisgalactic-empire,epic,science fictionnarrative containsa plethora ofliterary references. The dominant part comes from the nineteenth-century Romantic poet John Keats. The inclusion of passages from his poetry and letters is pursuedin my analysis.EmployingLubomír Doležel’scategorizations of intertextuality—“transposition,” “expansion,” and “displacement”—I seek to show how Keats’s writings and his persona constitute a privilegedintertext inSimmons’s tetralogyand I show its function.Simmons constructs subsidiary plots, some of which are drivenby Keats’s most well-known poetry. In consequence, some of the subplotscan be regarded as rewrites of Keats’s works.Although quotations of poetry have a tendency to direct the reader’s attention away from the main plot, slowing down the narrative, such passages in the narrativesevokeKeats’s philosophy of empathy, beauty andlove, which is fundamental for his humanism.ForKeats, the poet is a humanist, giving solace to mankind through his poetry. I argue that the complex intertextual relationships with regards toKeats’s poetryand biographyshow the way Simmons expresses humanism as a belief in man’s dignity and worth, and uses it as the basis for his epic narrative.

Testing the instrumental and reactive motivations of romantic relational aggressionClifford, Charity E. January 1900 (has links)
Doctor of Philosophy / School of Family Studies and Human Services / Amber Vennum / The literature suggests that aggressive behaviors occur in response to provocation (i.e., reactive aggression) or to achieve a goal (i.e., instrumental aggression). Relational aggression –when an individual harms another’s interpersonal relationships – has been studied from the reactive and instrumental framework in peer-directed contexts, usually with children. However, relational aggression in romantic relationships is yet to be studied from this framework. This dissertation includes a series of studies investigating whether two specific relationally aggressive behaviors found in romantic relationships (i.e., social sabotage and love withdrawal) are 1) motivated by instrumental and reactive aggression, 2) associated with differential characteristics, and 3) predictive of negative outcomes. The Romantic Relational Aggression Motivation (RRAM) scale, which included social sabotage and love withdrawal items with both instrumental and reactive motivations, was created to explore the above research questions. During Study 1a, an exploratory factor analysis using a sample of 170 emerging adults tested the factor structure of the RRAM. This resulted in love withdrawal, but not social sabotage, factoring into instrumental and reactive subscales. Using the same sample at a later wave, Study 1b refined the RRAM from Study 1a; the findings confirmed the results of Study 1a. In Study 2, using a sample of 118 emerging adults, the factor structure found in Study 1b was corroborated using a confirmatory factor analysis. Study 2 found that social sabotage was more closely related to instrumental than reactive love withdrawal. Reactive and instrumental love withdrawal were clearly differentiated based on their associations with constructs that were emotionally driven (e.g. neuroticism and hostile attribution bias) but not by their associations with constructs that dealt with power (e.g. self-relationship power and trait dominance). None of the romantic relational aggression scales were predictive of the negative outcomes in the study, possibly due to the small sample size (85 emerging adults) in the longitudinal portion of Study 2. As instrumental and reactive love withdrawal were associated with different constructs and combining the two together may cause substantial differences to be lost, the RRAM may be a useful tool for researchers of romantic relational aggression.

"Black Cowboys: Self-Sufficiency in the American West through the ideology of Booker T. Washington"Brown, Paige M 17 May 2013 (has links)
Despite the black cowboy's considerable achievement, the history of their lives remains largely uncovered. Most historiographies present a sympathetic picture, but what is missing is the voice of the black cowboys. Using the views and ideologies of Booker T. Washington, black cowboys were able to become self-sufficient men. This thesis will present a comparison and contrast between the historiography and autobiographies of black cowboys. Furthermore, giving black cowboys a voice through the philosophies of Booker T. Washington and presenting an argument on why the stories and histories of black cowboys have only recently been resurrected, largely because popular media in the progressive era did not include their stories.

Executive pastors' perception of leadership and management competencies needed for local church administrationWoodruff, Timothy Rowland 14 May 2004 (has links)
This dissertation examines leadership and management competencies of Southern Baptist mega-church executive pastors. The study discusses the issue of limited research on the position of the executive pastor. Resources related to this position are cited. Possible reasons for the emergence of this position are examined including the minister's dilemma of being both shepherd and administrator and the issue of leadership training as preparation for the pastorate.
Also provided is a theological and philosophical foundation for the leadership and management practices. Servant leadership as the biblical foundation for leadership and secular leadership models appropriate for church administration are reviewed. Research findings on ministerial effectiveness and the minister as manager are included. The available research on the role of the executive pastor is analyzed to reveal the practices posited in current literature.
The methodological design is based on the 1988 research of Stephen Boersma. This study identifies and analyzes the self evaluated importance of leadership and management competencies. Demographic data and professional experience are studied to identify relationships between the executive pastors' response and his background.
The analysis of findings presents the raw data, displays and statistical analysis. A description of how the raw data was compiled and an evaluation of the research design is provided. The analysis relates to the demographic data of the population, the rank order of the importance ratings, a comparative analysis of this study's findings with the finds of the Boersma study, an analysis of the demographic characteristics that are predictors of the importance ratings and a brief study of the findings related to the subjects' self-reported job satisfaction, performance and preparation in the role of the executive pastor.
This research contends that there are certain leadership and management competencies necessary for the management and administration of the church. The executive pastor will employ these practices as foundational to the position. There is also a relationship of demographic characteristics to the importance rating. Finally, pastors and executive pastors tend to agree on the importance of these competencies. / This item is only available to students and faculty of the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary.

Our Savior and King: Theology proper in 1 TimothyHetzler, Charles Oscar 17 November 2008 (has links)
In this dissertation the author seeks to present a holistic theology proper (hereafter, simply "theology") for the first epistle to Timothy, with special regard to the letter's doxologies (King) and divine title, Savior. Chapter 1 identifies the problem, includes a history of research, and describes the method and procedure of the dissertation. The method of inquiry consists of determining the meaning and function of the letter's theology. Thus, the author seeks to understand the background and character of 1 Timothy's theology, while also wishing to discern why the author of 1 Timothy chose to emphasize these peculiar theological themes.
Chapter 2 explores the meaning and function of the theological descriptions found in the doxologies of 1 Timothy 1:17 and 6:15-16. By thorough comparison to Greco-Roman, early Jewish, and OT literature, the author suggests a basically OT-informed view of God. The doxologies depict God as the only Sovereign who rules over all. The writer then determines that the doxologies function as a support and encouragement for Timothy to heed Paul's charge. This conclusion is largely based on the positioning of the doxologies and the macrostructure of the letter.
Chapter 3 examines the meaning and function of the divine epithet Savior. After comparing this term to its occurrences in Greco-Roman, early Jewish, and OT literature, the author again favors an OT background for Savior. This term depicts God as one who mercifully and indiscriminately reconciles sinners who trust in Christ. While also recognizing other functions, the author suggests that God as Savior may have been aimed at the primary implied reader, Timothy, as well. Accordingly, the idea of Savior informs and strengthens Timothy, so that he might continue to labor in presenting the life-giving gospel of God.
Chapter 4 considers every remaining theological description in 1 Timothy, as well as themes that significantly relate to the letter's theology, such as Christology. The author suggests that the entire theology of 1 Timothy either coheres with or supports the predominant ideas of God as King and Savior.
Chapter 5 summarizes the dissertation's findings and concludes with suggested implications for NT studies. / This item is only available to students and faculty of the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary.

Genrepedagogikens betydelse för yngre elevers läslust ur ett lärarperspektiv / Genre pedagogy importance for younger students love of reading from a teacher's perspectiveRebecca, Olsson January 2016 (has links)
Reading skills among Swedish students are falling and, above all exhibited a significant difference between children with Swedish as their first language, or as a second language. To change a trend similar to that found in Australia in the 1980s developed the genre pedagogy. Genre Pedagogy implies a parallel development between language and subject knowledge and is based on three theories: Vygotsky's sociocultural perspectives on learning, Hallidays systematic - functional grammar and Rotherys and Martin's school genres and the cycle of teaching and learning. The idea behind this approach is that while students learn, they will even learning the subject-specific language meta-language and in this way all students get the same opportunities to develop their knowledge. The purpose of this study is also to look at how and if the five surveyed teachers in grades preschool to third grade to teach are using the genre pedagogy in the subject Swedish with focus on literary reading. I want to see what they consider to be the advantages of working with genre pedagogy in their teaching. The method I used in this study is qualitative interviews. The results from the study shows that all the five interviewed teachers work with reading in school varied radically, and that their experience and knowledge of the genre pedagogy working method is different. They showed their support for the approach and sees advantages to the students become more engaged in and motivated to read. In addition, interaction, and interaction jacking a big place in their classroom.

Angústia, corpo e dor : particularidades nas escolhas amorosas / Angoisse, corps et douleur : particularités dans les choix amoureux / Anguish, body and pain : the particularities loving choicesDupim da Silva, Gabriella Valle 25 February 2014 (has links)
Possiblement, une douleur d´amour, c´est la supposition de base de notre hypothèse / The existence of painful condition, chronic and without organic substrate, disease of pain, are reported from the nineteenth century. Pain, such as perception, which is a subjective experience includes various sensations. Different chronic pain syndromes have pain as the main symptom and is characterized by a set of signs that do not correspond to a modelof organic causes unlocated. While acute pain is a valuable indicator in establishing a diagnosis, chronic pain, to have lost its character as a warning, we refer to a multiplicity of determinations order somatic, psychological and / or ambient. The contribution of psychoanalysis, in partnership with the medicine is useful in understanding the meaning of symptoms in the particularity of the case and in relation to the singularity of the subject. Instead of supporting the idea that it is necessary, at any cost, permanently eradicate a painful syndrome whatsoever and mental suffering associated with it, it is useful to consider what is involved in structural terms and unconscious. In other words, to "speak" the body, pain (psychic) Unable to symbolize. Possibly pain of love is the basic assumption of our hypothesis / A existência de condição dolorosa crônica e sem substrato orgânico , a doença de dor, são relatados a partir do século XIX.
