Generell DDL-Generering: metodik för olika databashanterare : Undersökning av metoder för generisk DDL-kod-generering över olika databassystem

Gabrielsson, Andreas January 2023 (has links)
This study was aimed at developing a generic application capable of generating DDL-code from three different databases: Oracle, SQL Server and DB2 by using JDBC. This research necessity origins from database administrators and developers need to effectively manage databases across different systems with different syntax and structure. The process was conducted in the IDEA IntelliJ using the java.sql-API for database operations. The result showed that despite the differences between these databases it was possible to develop a generic process for extracting DDL-code only using a JDBC connection. However, some specific adaptions were required for each database system. An observation was the managing of primary keys and indexes across the systems. This application has the potential to be developed further into a powerful tool for database management that saves time and resources. Areas for further investigation is handling of complex data types and structures and performance with large databases.

Иностранные IT-компании в России в условиях санкций : магистерская диссертация / Foreign IT companies in Russia under sanctions

Атаджанова, М. Р., Atajanova, M. R. January 2022 (has links)
The work is devoted to the study of foreign IT companies on the international politics and economy of Russia in the field of information technology, in the face of sanctions and hostile actions from Western countries. The material of the study was made up of sites that published statistics and analytical articles, interviews with company executives, and legal acts. The first chapter deals with transnational corporations and their influence on politics in general. The second chapter describes the localization of user personal data bases, discusses projects for the use of citizens' biometrics in the Russian market. The third chapter is practical. It provides a comparative analysis of the products of IT companies under sanctions. The appendix contains a corpus of analyzed titles in the form of a glossary. In the course of research in this master's work, the most popular foreign IT companies and their products, as well as their activities in the face of sanctions and blocking, were analyzed. It was revealed that the most influential and voluminous group was made up of transnational corporations, which cover all world economic markets. Interaction of foreign IT companies in Russian politics. Development of advanced technologies as neural networks for which personal and biometric data is collected. Also in this study, it is clearly seen that the escalation of negative geopolitics harms everyone, because the audience is losing demanded IT products, and the owners of IT products are losing profits. The study of this topic once again proves how necessary import substitution is in the IT sphere in Russia, shows the need to create and develop IT companies regardless of our Western "partners".

Consistent bi-level variable selection via composite group bridge penalized regression

Seetharaman, Indu January 1900 (has links)
Master of Science / Department of Statistics / Kun Chen / We study the composite group bridge penalized regression methods for conducting bilevel variable selection in high dimensional linear regression models with a diverging number of predictors. The proposed method combines the ideas of bridge regression (Huang et al., 2008a) and group bridge regression (Huang et al., 2009), to achieve variable selection consistency in both individual and group levels simultaneously, i.e., the important groups and the important individual variables within each group can both be correctly identi ed with probability approaching to one as the sample size increases to in nity. The method takes full advantage of the prior grouping information, and the established bi-level oracle properties ensure that the method is immune to possible group misidenti cation. A related adaptive group bridge estimator, which uses adaptive penalization for improving bi-level selection, is also investigated. Simulation studies show that the proposed methods have superior performance in comparison to many existing methods.

Querying semantically heterogeneous data sources using ontologies

Breed, Aditi January 1900 (has links)
Master of Science / Department of Computing and Information Sciences / Doina Caragea / In recent years, we have witnessed a significant increase in the number, size and diversity of the available data sources in many application domains. Data sources in a particular domain are autonomously created and maintained, and therefore distributed and semantically heterogeneous. In this thesis, we focused on the problem of querying such semantically heterogeneous data sources from a user's perspective. We approach this problem by using the concepts of ontologies and mappings between ontologies. A system for answering queries in a transparent way to the user has been designed and implemented. The main components of this system are an ontology mapping algorithm that maps user ontologies to data source ontologies, and a query processing engine that maps user queries to queries that can be answered by the data sources in the system. We have shown that machine learning algorithms can also be incorporated in the system, thus making it possible to learn machine learning classifiers (in particular, generative models such as Naïve Bayes) from distributed, semantically heterogeneous data sources. Because many data sources today are relational in nature, in this work we have dealt specifically with relational data sources, as opposed to flat files, XML or object oriented data sources. However, our system can be easily extended to other types of data sources.

The effect of enterprise resource planning systems on the financial statement audit of a higher education institution

14 July 2015 (has links)
M.Com. (Computer Auditing) / This study investigates the effects of the implementation and upgrade of financial Enterprise Resource Planning (hereafter ERP) systems, particularly the Oracle system, on financial reporting and audit. It also determines whether the independent external auditors play a vital role in the process of implementing internal controls in the implementation and upgrade of the Oracle system at a higher education institution (hereafter HEI). With the ever-evolving information technology, it is of utmost importance that the necessary controls be implemented. A sample of 18 Oracle system users from the HEI finance expenditure department and HEI independent external auditors is surveyed and the results of the survey are used to provide advice to organisational management on measures that should be implemented to ensure smooth systems implementation and post-implementation results. The empirical study indicates that the HEI had adequate measures and controls in place to ensure that the ERP implementation runs smoothly and threats are avoided, resulting in a successful implementation for competitive advantage in HEI.

Development of the Web-Based Admissions and Management System for IELP

Ziegler, Luciano 17 December 2010 (has links)
The academic program The Intensive English Language Program (IELP) at the University of New Orleans (UNO) offers one of the most effective and diverse language programs in the United States. This thesis is to report the development of the Webbased database application that manages admissions, students learning progress, and course offering of this program. The system development followed a simplified Unified Process for Software Development (UP) using the Unified Modeling Language (UML) models such as the requirement catch model – use cases, the analysis model – activity diagrams, and the design model –communication diagrams. The new system has met and exceeded all the business requirements and has been operating to support the further growth of the IELP at UNO. Significant attention has been given to information security; multiple techniques have been applied in addition to the security measures enforced in the hosting environment – the University Computing Center.

Hydrographic Surface Modeling Through A Raster Based Spline Creation Method

Alexander, Julie G 16 May 2014 (has links)
The United States Army Corp of Engineers relies on accurate and detailed surface models for various construction projects and preventative measures. To aid in these efforts, it is necessary to work for advancements in surface model creation. Current methods for model creation include Delaunay triangulation, raster grid interpolation, and Hydraulic Spline grid generation. While these methods produce adequate surface models, attempts for improved methods can still be made. A method for raster based spline creation is presented as a variation of the Hydraulic Spline algorithm. By implementing Hydraulic Splines in raster data instead of vector data, the model creation process is streamlined. This method is shown to be more efficient and less computationally expensive than previous methods of surface model creation due to the inherent advantages of raster data over vector data.
