The Influence Of Foster Parent Characteristics On The Relational Permanence Of Foster YouthVenkata, Yogita 01 January 2024 (has links) (PDF)
Research suggests that lack of permanency is associated with an increased risk of aggression, mental instability, and delinquent behavior in children (Leve et al., 2012). A crucial component of permanency involves establishing stable connections, including relational permanence with peers and adults, which are believed to enhance the well-being of foster youth (Wekerle et al., 2009). Further, the literature suggests a relationship between a parent’s adverse traumatic experiences, their attachments to their own parents, and their ability to regulate their foster child’s relational permanence to supportive adults and peers. Foster parents who have experienced trauma are often insecurely attached to their biological parents (Reisz et al., 2023). Parents with insecure attachments are associated with lower parental involvement and consistency (Jones et al., 2015); it is hypothesized that these characteristics among foster parents may be associated with a failure to maintain relational networks in foster youth. The first research question examined the association between foster parents’ previous adverse experiences of trauma and hardship and their attachment to their mothers. The second question assessed the relationship between the quality of foster parents’ attachment to their mother and the relational permanence of foster youth. The third investigated how foster parents’ attitudes toward and behaviors in co-parenting were related to their youth’s relational permanence.
Participants were recruited through foster parent associations via an online survey to test the relationships between foster parents' characteristics and foster youths’ relational permanence. Participants completed an adapted version of the Youth Connections Scale, the Inventory of Parents and Peer Attachment (IPPA), questions regarding foster parents’ exposure to hardship and trauma, and items measuring foster parents’ involvement in and willingness to facilitate relationship maintenance among foster youth.
For the first research question, data analysis was conducted via a comparison of mean with foster parents’ experiences of trauma and hardship as independent variables and a foster parent’s attachment to their mother as an independent variable, measured via the Inventory of Parents and Peer Attachment. The second research question ran a series of bivariate correlations to determine the relationship between the quality of foster children’s relationships, frequency of contact in foster children’s relationships, and attitude towards and behaviors of co-parenting. Similarly, the third research question utilized bivariate correlations to determine if there was a relationship between the quality of attachment to one’s mother, as measured by the Inventory of Parent and Peer Attachment, and the quality or frequency of relationships in foster youth.
The results failed to indicate a significant relationship between foster parents’ experiences of trauma and hardship and their attachment to their mothers. Furthermore, the data did not reveal any notable correlations between foster parents’ maternal attachment and the quality or frequency of relationships in fostered youth. The data did not suggest a correlation between co-parenting behaviors or attitudes and the quality or frequency of foster youth relationships with family contacts. However, a significant relationship was revealed between foster parents’ attitudes toward co-parenting and the quality of their fostered children’s relationships with both adult and child relatives outside of their immediate family.

Community assembly and food web interactions across pond permanence gradientsGreig, Hamish Stuart January 2008 (has links)
Ecological communities along gradients of environmental stress are thought to be structured by trade-offs between resisting biotic interactions in physically benign habitats and successfully exploiting physically stressful habitats. However, these trade-offs are likely to be affected by the predictability of abiotic stressors, and variation in the strength of biotic interactions. I investigated community assembly and food web interactions in ponds across an unpredictable gradient of water inundation (pond permanence) in Canterbury, New Zealand. Pond community composition and species richness were strongly influenced by pond permanence. However, species in temporary ponds were a nested subset of generalists that were also found in permanent ponds, rather than a unique assemblage of temporary pond specialists. Subsequent experiments indicated predator impact decreased with pond permanence, partially due to the foraging suppression of predatory invertebrates in permanent ponds by fish. Weak predation in permanent ponds combined with unpredictable drying regimes likely selected for generalist traits, and resulted in community assembly being driven by a gradient of drying stress rather than trade-offs between biotic interactions and drying.
Furthermore, predator impact increased over time in temporary ponds. In predictable snow-melt ponds in the Colorado Rocky Mountains, seasonal windows of weak predation were exploited by vulnerable species, leading to increased diversity within habitats. However in unpredictable systems like Canterbury, temporal increases in predation risk that depend on drying history are likely to increase variability in the spatial arrangement of suitable habitats for particular species. This should further favour the evolution of generalist traits and reduce the importance of trade-offs between predation and drying in the assembly of communities. Considering the predictability of disturbance regimes and the spatial and temporal variation in biotic interactions will greatly enhance understanding and management of communities in heterogeneous landscapes.

Numbers only quantify the development Qatar is experiencing. In Doha, the city is a physical manifestation of these changes. The general approach to development follows a ‘tear down, build new’ model. Potential value is lost in what is discarded, despite necessity and convenience. This study addresses the topic by dispelling the assumed need to destroy in order to build. In doing so, it examines existing vernacular spaces that are often overlooked. The main application is analyzed through agents of space, such as buildings and the urban environment with varied outcomes.
The study introduces and encourages an alternative narrative to the existing approach through transformative principles of preservation. It addresses the core concepts of temporality and permanence by negotiating what to retain and/or what to alter. Consequently, trace plays a major role as a process of honoring and embracing the past by materializing it. Incorporating novel elements allow for a shift in perception to occur. Value becomes a method of enriching and elevating a topic, idea, artifact, material, function, or experience.

[pt] A presente dissertação, A permanência de bolsistas ProUni no curso noturno de Pedagogia do Centro Universitário do Norte (UNINORTE/LAUREATE) buscou conhecer a percepção desses alunos em relação ao acesso e à permanência no ensino superior privado. Especificamente, procurou-se conhecer as razões que os levaram a aderir ao ProUni, as principais dificuldades que encontram para se manter no curso com aproveitamento acadêmico e as possíveis estratégias que os mesmos utilizam para lidar com as dificuldades no cotidiano do curso de pedagogia. Para tal, procedeu-se a um estudo de cunho quanti-qualitativo que, após revisão da literatura pertinente ao assunto e levantamento dos bolsistas ProUni no UNINORTE/Laureate, realizou entrevista semiestruturada com 10 alunos bolsistas do referido curso. A análise do material obtido indicou o reconhecimento, pelos entrevistados, da importância do Programa para o acesso ao ensino superior privado dos estudantes em situação economicamente menos favorecida, ao mesmo tempo em que apontou a necessidade de implementação de políticas públicas que garantam ao sujeito de baixa renda a permanência e conclusão do Curso, de forma a promover a superação das situações intersubjetivas decorrentes da sua situação de sujeito pobre. / [en] This dissertation, The permanence of stock ProUni night course in Pedagogy of the University Center North (UNINORTE/ Laureate) sought to ascertain the perception of these students in relation to access and remain in private higher education. Specifically, we sought to ascertain the reasons that led them to join the ProUni, the main difficulties they encounter to stay on course with academic achievement, and the possible strategies that they use to deal with the daily difficulties of the pedagogy course. To this end, we carried out a study of quantitative and qualitative nature that after review of the literature pertaining to the subject and a survey of Fellows in ProUni UNINORTE / Laureate, held semi-structured interviews with 10 scholarship students of that course. The analysis of material obtained indicated the recognition of the importance of the Program for access to private higher education of students in economically less-favored status at the same time, which identified the need to implement public policies that guarantee the permanence and completion of the course subject that belongs to the class-who-lives-of-work, in order to promote the overcoming of intersubjective situations due to its poor state of the subject.

[pt] O presente estudo busca tratar do tema assistência estudantil em uma instituição
federal de ensino superior – a UFRJ. É fundamentado pelo entendimento de que a
assistência estudantil é um importante instrumento para a efetivação do direito à
educação superior pública, gratuita e de qualidade que a democratização do acesso,
por si só, não propicia, especialmente quando se refere a determinado segmento de
estudantes que sofrem as consequências das desigualdades sociais, presentes em
nossa sociedade. A atual política que visa a reestruturação das instituições federais de
ensino superior conduziu a assistência estudantil para um nova dimensão, ampliando
suas ações e definindo, de forma mais efetiva, a sua prioridade para os estudantes
cuja condição socioeconômica muitas vezes impede a sua permanência na
universidade. As ações de assistência estudantil vem sendo implementadas pela UFRJ
há décadas e não sofreram alterações em seu formato ao longo desse tempo, apesar
das mudanças ocorridas no contexto da educação superior, em especial nas
universidades federais.A pesquisa desenvolvida teve como objetivo identificar de que
forma a bolsa de assistência estudantil contribui para permanência do aluno bolsista
da UFRJ. Para isso foram realizadas entrevistas semi-estruturadas com estudantes
selecionados para uma das modalidades de bolsas de assistência estudantil. O estudo
tem ainda a intenção de oferecer subsídios para que o auxílio oportunizado pelo

acadêmico. / [en] The aim of this study is to address the student assistance in a federal institution
of higher education - UFRJ. It is based on the understanding that the student
assistance is an important tool for ensuring the right to free and quality public higher
education, once the democratization of access, by itself, does not provide,
especially when referring to a particular segment of students who suffer the
consequences of social inequalities present in our society. The current policy
to restructure the universities led the student assistance to a new dimension,
extending its actions and targeting, more effectively, the priority to students
whose socioeconomic status often prevents their permanence at university. The acts
of student assistance have been implemented for decades by the UFRJ and have not
changed its format over that time, despite changes in the context of higher education,
especially in federal universities. This research aimed at identifying how
the student scholarship assistance contributes to the permanence of the scholarship
student from UFRJ. To assess this, semi-structured interviews were performed with
students selected for one of the types of scholarships for student assistance. The
study also intends to provide support so that the aid offered by the scholarship
program of student assistance implemented by the UFRJ may be aligned to the needs
of students and may achieve the objectives pursued by the student assistance - the
permanence and conclusion of the course with a great academic achievement.

Entre essas ações, destaca-se o Programa Nacional de Assistência Estudantil ‒ PNAES. O estudo em questão tem como objetivo principal analisar a política de assistência estudantil no âmbito da Universidade Federal de Goiás ‒ UFG, a partir do PNAES. No que tange aos objetivos específicos, ressaltam-se as políticas públicas, com ênfase na política educacional a partir da década de 1990; a construção de um panorama histórico da UFG, com recorte entre os anos 2006 e 2016, intentando depreender os desafios, as possibilidades e os avanços da política de assistência estudantil implementada pela UFG. A presente Dissertação se constrói em decorrência de uma investigação sobre como pode se dar o ato da \"insistência\" na criação em dança. Para tanto, a discussão sobre insistência se desenvolve objetivando olhar para o processo criativo do espetáculo de dança Corpo Desconhecido da bailarina e coreógrafa Cinthia Kunifas. Entre ensaios e apresentações, o espetáculo aqui em questão durou doze anos, e neste tempo contínuo e não urgente, Kunifas insistentemente permaneceu em um mesmo modo de estar e viver a cena a partir de uma questão de origem. Portanto, para desenvolver um argumento sobre a \"insistência\" na criação em dança, o texto se apoia nas referências teóricas de Jorge de Albuquerque Vieira (2000 e 2006) e Adriana Bitencourt Machado (2001 e 2005), que estudam o conceito de \"permanência\" da Teoria Geral dos Sistemas. For that, the discussion about insistence is developed aiming at the creative process of the dance spetacle Corpo Desconhecido, interpreted by the dancer and choreographer Cinthia Kunifas. Between rehearsals and presentations, the spetacle focused here lasted for twelve years, and in this continuous and non-urgent time, Kunifas insistently remained in a same way of being and living the scene from an original matter. Therefore, to develop an argument about \"insistence\" in creation in dance, the text is based on Jorge de Albuquerque Vieira\'s (2000 and 2006) and Adriana Bitencourt Machado\'s (2001 and 2005) theoretical contributions, authors who study the concept of \"permanence\" from the General Theory of Systems. Another reference brought to the argumentation is the understanding about the creation process approached by Cecília Almeida Salles (2006 and 2011). [pt] A presente dissertação, intitulada Passar é fácil, continuar é que é
difícil... A permanência de alunos bolsistas na PUC-Rio resulta de uma pesquisa
realizada junto aos alunos bolsistas provenientes de Pré-Vestibulares
Comunitários e do ProUni que tiveram acesso à universidade e são atendidos
pelo Projeto Fundo Emergencial de Solidariedade da PUC-Rio (FESP). Além da
análise de dados quantitativos referentes ao perfil dos alunos atendidos em
2007, foram realizadas entrevistas semi-estruturadas com 16 alunos
acompanhados pelo FESP para se conhecer suas percepções a respeito do
mesmo, bem como as estratégias que utilizaram para permanecer na
universidade antes de serem atendidos pelo Projeto. Foi também realizado o
resgate histórico do FESP, sua criação e construção ao longo de dez anos de
trabalho desenvolvido. Para este resgate, se procedeu à leitura e análise de
documentos constantes de seus arquivos e se entrevistou professores e
funcionários que participaram de sua construção inicial e os que ainda participam
na atualidade. Os resultados finais apontam para a necessidade de se
implementar políticas de assistência estudantil que possibilitem aos alunos em
condição de pobreza, a permanência numa instituição de ensino superior quer

The permanence of scholarship students in PUC-Rio is the result of an empirical
research, which includes the analysis of students, originating from Preparatory
Community Courses for the Admission Exam and ProUni, who earned
scholarships and were assisted by the Emergency Solidary Fund offered by
PUC-Rio (FESP). Besides the analysis of a quantitative data on the profile of the
assisted students, collected in 2007, semi-structured interviews were carried out
with 16 FESP students in order to understand their perceptions about the project.
In addition, strategies used by these students to persist at the university before
being included into this program were analyzed. Document and archive analyses
were conducted to present a brief overview of the history of FESP, including its
creation and development over the ten years of the project. Also included were
interviews with university teachers and staff members who participated in
implementing the FESP project. The findings of this study suggest the need for a
wider undergraduate student assistance program to guarantee the permanence
into private and public universities of students who financial support.

O presente trabalho é uma reflexão em poéticas visuais sobre o comportamento e a condição da matéria informe. Para tal, está fundado e traz como recorte a crueza da massa de pão. Ao se utilizar desse material, a prática plástica se relaciona com uma fisicalidade que se perde com o tempo. Em razão dessa efemeridade da matéria, o uso de vídeo e da fotografia tornam-se recorrentes para registro da imagem do que inevitavelmente se esvai. A questão, portanto, é sobre este novo corpo que se apresenta de outra maneira por meio das imagens. Nesta mudança de parâmetro entre material e imaterial, busca-se compreender sobre a condição da matéria nas imagens, apoiando-se nos conceitos de informe, relativo ao contingente da matéria, e de viscoso, atrelado às visualidades evocadas. Utiliza-se como auxílio nesta reflexão, ideias que transitam entre espessura e (im)permanência. / The present work is a reflection on visual poetics about the behavior and the condition of the formless matter. For this, it is founded and brings as a cutting the crudeness of the bread dough. When using this material, the plastic practice is related to a physicality that is lost with time. Because of this ephemerality of matter, the use of video and photography becomes recurrent to register the image of what is inevitably evaded. The question, therefore, is about this new body which is presented in another way through images. In this change of parameter between material and immaterial, it is sought to understand about the condition of matter in the images, based on the concepts of formless, relative to the contingent of matter, and to the viscous, attached to the evoked visualities. It is used as an aid in this reflection, ideas that transit between thickness and (im)permanence.
