Introduction to the issue and the importance of the topic: Emergency Department (ED) is a new type of the health care service and these departments are organized in a different way in the Czech Republic so far. However, ED is an integral part of the acute care system, and the Emergency Deaprtment is capable to ensure the continuity of care between the field and the hospital despite of the increasing atomization of medical disciplines. In recent years, it is a model that is able to deal with all acute conditions of all severity, 24 hours a day, with an adequate level of safety for patients, because they can be briefly observed at the observation unit of the ED. Goal of the thesis and methodology: The main goal of the diploma thesis is a comprehensive analysis of the existing Emergency Departments in the Czech Republic. The first partial goal was to find out the disposition and organization of Emergency Departments in details, how many acute beds for emergency care are available and how is the work regime organized. The second partial goal was to find out staffing of the Emergency Departments. Whether a specialised emergency physician is continually present and whether there ais enough qualified non-medical medical staff. Modeling and Execution of Resilient Business Processes in Unreliable Communication Environments

Business processes define workflows by structuring sets of activities according to given objectives. Process Modeling Languages (PMLs) provide graphical elements to define process models. Apart from use cases in finance and commerce, PMLs gain popularity in application domains such as Cyber-Physical Systems, the Internet of Things, ubiquitous computing, mobile devices, and scenarios happening in rural, restricted, or disaster-affected regions. Many of the domains are exposed to delayed, intermittent, or broken connectivity. Existing PMLs show limitations in considering connectivity-related issues, leading to failures and breakdowns at process runtime. This thesis addresses connectivity-related issues regarding the modeling and execution of resilient business processes taking place in unreliable communication environments. With resilient BPMN (rBPMN), an extension for the Business Process Model and Notation (BPMN) addressing environments with delayed, intermittent, or broken connectivity is introduced. rBPMN extends the BPMN metamodel by new elements for resilient process models. Domain experts may define alternatives for possibly failing message flows based on priorities or characteristics of the alternatives. Functionality offered by remote participants may be moved to other participants for local execution. This thesis illustrates approaches for the graph-based analysis of business processes regarding their resilient operation. By translating process models into directed graphs, graph algorithms allow to dynamically find the most suitable process path. Domain experts are enabled to identify non-resilient parts of a process model, allowing them to optimize the involved segments before runtime. Multi-criteria analysis approaches optimize process operation according to a chosen set of criteria. A real-world scenario of an environmental-friendly slurry application illustrates the use of rBPMN’s concepts and approaches for modeling and executing resilient processes. Technical approaches realizing rBPMN’s resilience strategies using a BPMN runtime engine and microservices are illustrated. The proof-of-concept implementations may be extended and adapted, serving as guides for other application domains.

Research points at the textbook as the main source for mathematics development in the early school ages. The study enhances the concept of relational and instrumental understanding as means to address the teaching environment within textbooks. To investigate a part of the linguistic structure of this literature, this study reports on the main features that characterize the word class known as verbs due to their presence throughout a series of textbooks designed for the stages 1 to 3 in Sweden. The goal was to make common claims about frequency, tense and processes due to these verbs. By creating a specialized corpus, these verbs were catalogued and marked in comparison to two larger corpora and to GERS-levels. A process analysis was then done based on a systemic-functional linguistic tool. The results show a vast difference between the low- and the high frequency verbs. Analysis showed that present tense held the highest frequency by over 50%. Results also showed presence of the formal passive voice. Furthermore, the material processes were in a large majority in contrast to others present. Other indications of the analysis showed poor conditions for development of relational understanding in contrast to emphasis made in the national curriculum. Conclusions involve statements regarding textbook teaching methods not providing sufficient environments for language development. The characters of the verb corpus might place demands on students’ lexical knowledge and language proficiency level on forehand, which might induce a language-related knowledge barrier against the mathematical communication provided through the textbook.

Yes / The process of generating FMEA following document-centric approach is tedious and susceptible to human error. This paper presents preliminary methodology for robotic manufacturing process modelling in MBSE environment with a scope of automating multiple steps of the modelling process using ontology. This is followed by the reasoning towards automatic generation of process FMEA from the MBSE model. The proposed methodology allows to establish robust and self-synchronising links between process-relevant information, reduce the likelihood of human error, and scale down time expenses.

Safe-AV: A Fault Tolerant Safety Architecture for Autonomous Vehicles

Autonomous Vehicles (AVs) should result in tremendous benefits to safe human transportation. Recent reports indicate a global average of 3,287 road crash related fatalities a day with the blame, in most cases, assigned to the human driver. By replacing the main cause, AVs are predicted to significantly reduce road accidents -- some claiming up to a 90% reduction on US roads. However, achieving these numbers is not simple. AVs are expected to assume tasks that human drivers perform both consciously and unconsciously -- in some instances, with Machine Learning. AVs incur new levels of complexity that, if handled incorrectly, can result in failures that cause loss of human life and damage to the environment. Accidents involving SAE Level 2 vehicles have highlighted such failures and demonstrated that AVs have a long way to go. The path towards safe AVs includes system architectures that provide effective failure monitoring, detection and mitigation. These architectures must produce AVs that degrade gracefully and remain sufficiently operational in the presence of failures. We introduce Safe-AV, a fault tolerant safety architecture for AVs that is based on the commonly adopted E-Gas 3 Level Monitoring Concept, the Simplex Architecture and guided by a thorough hazard analysis in the form of Systems-Theoretic Process Analysis (STPA). We commenced the architecture design with a review of some modern AV accidents which helped identify the types of failures AVs can present and acted as a first step to our STPA. The hazard analysis was applied to an initial AV architecture (without safety mechanisms) consisting of components that should be present in a typical AV (based on the literature and our ideas). Our STPA identified the system level accidents, hazards and corresponding loss scenarios that led to well-founded safety requirements which, in turn, evolved the initial architecture into Safe-AV. / Thesis / Master of Applied Science (MASc)

A web-oriented framework for the development and deployment of academic facing administrative tools and services

The demand for higher education has increased dramatically in the last decade. At the same time, institutions have faced continual pressure to reduce costs and increase quality of education, while delivering that education to greater numbers of students. The introduction of software systems such as virtual learning environments, online learning resources and centralised student record systems has become routine in attempts to address these demands. However, these approaches suffer from a variety of limitations: They do not take all stakeholders' needs into account. They do not seek to reduce administrative overheads in academic processes. They do not reflect institution-specific academic policies. They do not integrate readily with other information systems. They are not capable of adequately modelling the complex authorisation roles and organisational structure of a real institution. They are not well suited to rapidly changing policies and requirements. Their implementation is not informed by sound software engineering practises or data architecture design. Crucially, as a consequence of these drawbacks such systems can increase administrative workload for academic staff. This thesis describes the research, development and deployment of a system which seeks to address these limitations, the Module Management System (MMS). MMS is a collaborative web application targeted at streamlining and minimising administrative tasks. MMS encapsulates a number of user-facing tools for tasks including coursework submission and marking, tutorial attendance tracking, exam mark recording and final grade calculation. These tools are supported by a framework which acts as a form of “university operating system”. This framework provides a number of different services including an institution abstraction layer, role-based views and privileges, security policy support integration with external systems.

Neste trabalho, foi estudado o desempenho de um sistema constituído de torres de resfriamento e a sua integração em uma planta industrial de hidrogenação de butadieno. Caracterizou-se o desempenho das torres de resfriamento com base em um modelo fenomenológico, cujos parâmetros foram obtidos a partir da medição de variáveis operacionais reais. O processo de hidrogenação foi configurado em um simulador de processos, sendo o caso base estabelecido nas condições de projeto. Elaborou-se um módulo específico referente às torres de resfriamento, que foi integrado ao processo configurado no simulador. Em seguida, analisaram-se as interações das condições operacionais da torre de resfriamento no desempenho do processo industrial. / In the present work, the performance of a system composed of a cooling tower integrated in butadiene hydrogenation plant was studied. An experimental investigation was made to characterize the cooling towers based on a phenomenological model and in real process conditions. The hydrogenation process was configured on a process simulator and design specifications were considered as base case. A cooling tower module was developed and integrated to the process simulator. The interaction of the cooling tower system and the plant operation was investigated.

The subject of the thesis is an process analysis in the company AiP Safe, Ltd. First, theoretical approaches and methods for organization and business process analysis are summarized. The best known modeling notations are also described. For the analysis of AiP Safe, Ltd. was chosen BSP method and for process modeling was chosen BPMN notation. The result of the work is a suggestion to establish strategic goals and strategies to achieve them, change in the organizational structure, optimization of selected processes, introduction of new metrics, introduction of new information system and recommendations based on the SWOT analysis.

The theme of the diploma thesis deals with the description and improvement of business process inside of the service company. The Goal is to formalize current state of business processes in the Czech division of international hardware producer and provide overall view on the processes for the company management. In the first section there is a company profile described by organisation chart, strategy, SWOT analysis and brief description of the internal information system. The middle part contains descriptive tables and Event-driven process chains of three main processes and their subprocesses. In the all processes there are identified few weaknesses that are the base for the last section. The final part suggests specific improvements to the weaknesses. It is author's proposals for solving difficulties inside of the processes. In conclusion all of the plans are grouped by every single role in the process.
