This doctoral thesis, which adopts as its central reference the theories developed in the field of Gender Studies and Cultural Studies seeks to investigate how romantic relationships are represented in contemporary children's literature texts, edited from the 90's decade of the 20th century until the year of 2007. To do this analysis, seventeen books have been selected, taking into account the various dates of publishing, authors and editors in an attempt to escape the traditional analysis of the already so studied classic stories. Considering that love and marriage are being jeopardized in our society, as new family patterns, or even other possibilities on how to experience love emerge, my research problem is focused on discussing how children's literature has been presenting these themes, such as: how does romantic love and the materialization of this feeling, through the relationships that are established based upon it, have been represented in children's literature books? In which way are gender relationships depicted in these books? How is marriage seen in connection with love relationships? The results show that in most of the children's literary pieces the loving feeling still shows in association with the idea of marriage; the woman is responsible for raising the children; some stories present romantic love linked with pain and the difficulty of conquest. The characteristics of love at first sight are also persistent, as is the empowerment of this feeling in order to transform the other person. Three pieces, among the seventeen that were analyzed, show the preference of the single status and the divorce as a possibility to end a romantic relationship.

Previous issue date: 2012-03-29 / Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior - CAPES / Introduction: from the mid-18th century it was possible to see significant changes in ideas about romantic love, which began to gain importance, contributing to the secular and changes affecting the social life as a whole. The lives of men and women was reorganized and the beliefs and roles assumed by everyone in modern society were restored, revealing the emergence of other interpretative axes to sexuality and, consequently, the establishment of relationships. In this sense, the present study aimed to investigate the dynamics of emotional relationships of young adults in common-law, compared to their beliefs, satisfactions and compromises to fidelity, and the possible implications for vulnerability to HIVAIDS. For the Methodology, the sample consisted of 400 young adults of both sexes, with the age group 20 to 29 years old, heterosexual and who are in stable relationships. To the data collection instruments were used: 1) Romantic Beliefs scale; 2) scale of loving satisfaction; 3) related behaviors survey Infidelity; 4) Questionnaire of behaviors associated with vulnerability to HIVAIDS; 5) socio-demographic Questionnaire and additional information about the affective relationship. Questionnaire replies were given in Likert type scale with 10 points and the database has been built from the Statistical Software SPSS for Windows-versão18, with descriptive and bivariate analyses. The Results pointed to sample women as having romantic beliefs, which may be the most influential factor and exposure to vulnerability to HIV, because the majority is on the fickleness of the use of condoms in their sexual relations. Confidence in the partner was a reason stated by most participants as much to the absence in the use of condoms, as well as to the low membership in personal perception of vulnerability to AIDS. However, the behavior of infidelity linked to vulnerability to HIV has shown how unbreakable confidence in partner is mistaken, since the male participants, in greater numbers than women, they claimed they have already betrayed its partners, even if these unofficial relations have not always made use of the condom. The sample was characterized as satisfied lovingly, having men presented as more satisfied than women, or safer this satisfaction, or even lower. Therefore, it was noticeable that many of the recent practices carried out by young adults in common-law are re-signified by organizers of the sense that relate to traditional myths of romantic love, in which trust in partner claims its right to eternity, although the scope for freedom of the contemporary world, which corroborate in unprotected sexual practices. All of these components point to weaknesses in health promotion initiatives and HIVAIDS prevention, resulting in a situation of vulnerability.

和吸血鬼談場戀愛吧─以「浪漫愛」概念為基礎探討《暮光之城》熱潮下的青少女愛情觀 / Falling in love with a vampire─Using the concepts of romantic love to discuss female teenage Twilighters' philosophy of love under the Twilight Mania王思勻, Wang, Szu Yun Unknown Date (has links)
Based on the concepts of romantic love, the research focuses on teenage girls’ inner interpretation experiences when they read the Twilight series so that better understand how do the vampire images of Edward Cullen and the concepts of romantic love represented by The Twilight Saga stimulate young girls’ introspection and imagination of romantic love within the process of interactions with texts.
“The school life” is the main context for teenage girls to have contact with the Twilight series. In this study, the outcome of in-depth interviews with 12 “Twilighters” shows that teenage girls proactively “choose” and “use” The Twilight Saga to satisfy their mental and emotional demands. It reveals two crucial concepts: on the one hand, as far as teenage girls are concerned, “reading” is a voluntary action that plays an important role in their daily lives. On the other hand, The Twilight Saga symbolizes a “remedial subculture” that allows young girls to redeem their actual imperfection by means of daydream and imagination.
From just reading the Twilight series to naming themselves as “Twilighters”, this process indicates a timeline-interaction between teenage girls and The Twilight Saga. To begin with, young girls try to find out if there is overlap amid their life context, emotion demands and the Twilight’s love romance; however, as time gone by, they start to interpret and make comments on the text. Using romantic love as a frame to explore “Twilighters”, this research tries to portray contemporary teenage girls’ imagination of romantic love and then compares it with the concepts of contemporary romantic love and that represented in The Twilight Saga. The differences not only display the independent deliberation of young girls, but also reveal their introspection and criticism on men of nowadays and notions of love in this risky society. On the first place, Vampire Edward Cullen’s conservative notion of sex symbolizes women’s moral appeals to men at the imaginative level. Secondly, judging “eternal love” under the context of risky society, some young girls regard “finding their own Edward” as an action paragon of fantasy, while some of them try to reverse the meaning of eternal love from “happy ever after” to “the precious one is the eternity for a moment”. Last but not least, young girls try to strengthen their demands for subjectivity, so that they would rather be the one who is loved and love others at the same time.
Each era embraces one kind of vampire it lacks, and the appearance of Vampire Edward perhaps symbolizes the anxiety of modern people on their way of seeking true love. Through the frame of romantic love to observe the teenage “Twilighters”, the research finds out the reasons that young girls who embrace romantic love or Vampire Edward truly have some special meanings. Their imagination and introspection of romantic love, as well as their abundant images as “Twilighters”, both give them powers to reverse others’ stereotypes on “Twilighters”. “Twilighters” are not only the girls who long for love, but also the ones who have the ability to challenge and overthrow modern concepts of love and the value it manifests.

The Love in time of Internet : Rrason and emotion in the search the couple online of chileansTello navarro, Felipe 06 September 2017 (has links)
This study analyzes the pages of online dating, more specifically, the interpretation that Chilean surfers perform these virtual spaces; interactions that occur within these web portals; and the sense that national users associate with their interactions. To answer these objectives not only a number of methods of collection and analysis of information is used, but in turn, the data generated is inserted in a wide theoretical discussion about love and relationships. Thus, in the first part of this work, the imagery of love is analyzed from its main myths and stories. Subsequently the historical and sociological constitution of relationships is analyzed. Epistemological, methodological and ethical implications of research on the Internet are discussed to end the first part of this study; and, in turn, the present the steps, procedures and techniques for the collection and analysis of empirical data. The second part of this study are the results of research. This section briefly presents the national context in which the pages of encounter emerge ; Of course, the opinion held by Chilean internet websites on matchmaking; then the start of virtual interaction is described and shown as follows this achievement similar to the offline parameters; subsequently, the transition from online to offline; the last stage of this description is the "post-date"; to complete the second part of this work, and as a corollary, some reflections on the differentiated use that men and women dating sites are established. Finally, the conclusions of this study returns to the research questions. Here it is stated that dating sites are an ambiguous space for Chilean source of distrust, along with also being a place of desire and hope of finding that "special" person, or places to establish a one-night stand or a long-term relationship. In turn, it noted that digital interactions that arise from the meeting pages, participate in their own social, cultural and economic trends of modern love, which enables people to combine, not without some degree of conflict, reason and emotion in matchmaking. And finally, it states that "romantic love" is a framework of meaning used by people, especially the women within the meeting pages, and therefore it is possible to note that love survives the Internet.

Sexual Relationships between Athletes and Coaches : Love, Sexual Consent, and AbuseJohansson, Susanne January 2017 (has links)
Coach-athlete sexual relationships (CASR) and sexual harassment and abuse (SHA) in sport can profoundly impact athletes’ welfare and performance. Yet, it is often ignored due to sensitivity, secrecy, and lack of knowledge. There is no previous research on SHA in sport in Sweden, and legal, consensual, same-sex CASR is under-researched. The overall purpose of this doctoral thesis is to examine CASR in competitive sport in Sweden. More specifically: a) athletes’ experiences of CASR; b) prevalence of SHA in coach-athlete relationships; c) conceptual and theoretical issues to broaden the understanding of CASR and SHA, will be examined. Survey methodology is employed in Article I to explore the prevalence of SHA, coach-athlete relationship factors, and association between relationship factors and SHA. A random sample of current and former male and female Swedish athletes (n=477) aged 25 participated. Article II outlines critical issues of CASR, and theories and conceptualisations of romantic love, sexual consent, and female athlete sexual agency is further developed in the thesis research summary. Drawing on interviews with five female elite athletes aged 23-30, experiences of CASR are analysed in-depth using discourse analyses in Article III and narrative case study design in Article IV. Results show that athletes’ experiences of CASR are positively and negatively diverse but potentially problematic because boundary ambiguity, secrecy, and isolation are common. Social and ethical dilemmas may also occur because CASR intersect contrasting discourses regarding elite sport, coach–athlete relationships, and romantic love. Moreover, CASR integrate professional and private contexts in which equality and power deviate. The research illustrates empirically and theoretically how female elite athletes exercise agency and recognise consensual, mutually desired CASR where romantic love is priority. However, sexual consent can be ambivalent rather than a mutually exclusive yes/no dualism. Socially, consent is a process of negotiation informed by contextual factors, sexual agency, and social structure. In addition, 5.5% prevalence of SHA perpetrated by male coaches is reported, distributed throughout the sampled athletes’ gender, age, sport performance levels, and individual/team sports in the sample. In conclusion, this thesis expands knowledge of athletes’ experiences of love, sexual consent, and abuse in CASR. Previous evidence of SHA in sport is confirmed to include sport in Sweden. Implications for sport and sport sciences are offered.

Koncept romantické lásky a jeho podoba ve vybraných romantických filmech české a slovenské tvorby / The cocept of romantic lowe and its appearance in selected romantic movies with czech and slovak originJančová, Michaela January 2015 (has links)
Romantic love since its beginnings raises the question of intimacy and has become an essential social force of society. In contrast to the forms of Christian love or passionate love, romantic love is the typical feature that imply a degree of self-knowledge and activity that leads to one of the characteristic elements of "heroic expedition". Since the establishment of the first novels, the concept has undergone significant way and has become the subject of much research int different disciplines. This thesis looks on the issue of display of romantic love in terms of a social construct which is variable over time and dependent on cultural and social factors of the society to which the media as part of the intended product. Constructing myth of romantic love is in this thesis elaborated in the cultural environment of Czech and Slovak film production, which shares a common history. Defined, collected and described myths, metaphors and archetypal view of the concept of romantic love, they were applied to the selected movie stories from the years 1992 - 2013.

Entre ais e suspiros: um estudo discursivo acerca dos enunciadores na canção romântica brasileira / Between ais and sighs: a discursive study about enunciators in Brazilian romantic love songsVieira, Gilmar Gomes 22 March 2013 (has links)
This work is dedicated to the study of the romantic enunciator presented in the Brazilian romantic love song, with main analysis corpus made up of lyrics of the last three decades, adapted from Spanish to Portuguese language. We began the research through a comparison between national and Spanish musical production, when we spotted some different behavior of the beings created in the song lyrics, within what Maingueneau characterize as cenografia enunciativa. Notwithstanding, our strictly comparative approach became a historical and cultural study of the Brazilian romantic love song, when the history of the Brazilian song showed us a connection between the Brazilian romantic love songs of the XIX century and the romanticist poets. We had, thus, to consider the modinhas of such period and songs produced in the first 60 years of the XX century (sambas-canções, boleros, canções cafonas), in which certain characteristics of the type of enunciator we have been describing are still present. This way, we began a study on the XX century Brazilian phonographic market, period in which the technological development contributed to the new means of communication, affecting extraordinarily the production and circulation of the romantic love song. With the advent of the radio and television, the geographic and linguistic frontiers became significantly narrow and it intensified the process characterized by Valente as nomadismo and movência, id est., the transplantation and adaptation of the musical genres amongst the frontiers especially those from Spanish speaking countries. Therefore, this work is also a thought on the constant source of inspiration on the Spanish speaking countries repertoire, something that became part of the production and circulation system in the phonographic market, molding the romantic love songs of the first half of the XX century. Since then, this type of songs brought characters which suffering and anguished images started to be seen as discursive traces in the lyrics, what we have characterize along this work as excess. However, the representation of a being for which life was worthless without the person he loved would be annulated by the agents of the cultural industry through elitist actions, once this representation was not a contribution to what Tatit called refinamento do gosto. Considering these excessive romantic characteristics and the new musical scenario since the decade of the 80s (when the romantic love songs were revived by the music sertaneja), our goal in this work was to find some characteristics that could point to a transfiguration of the romantic enunciator, mainly, regarding to its relation with its beloved person described in the song lyrics. Our main corpus (of adapted songs) is made up of lyrics that comprehend the period of 1979 to 2010. Thus, there is a secondary corpus where three modinhas of the XIX century can be found; some sambas-canções of the decade of 30s to 60s of the XX century; as well as two lyrics known as cafonas during the 70s. Our analyses are founded by the discourse and the enunciation studies, but, due to the interdisciplinary aspect of the work, we also have contributions of the sociology, as well as of the history and cultural studies.
