Modernidade e Catolicismo: o episcopado de Dom Josà Medeiros Delgado no Cearà (1963-1973). / MODERN AND CATHOLICISM: THE EPISCOPATE OF DON JOSà DELGADO DE MEDEIROS NO CEARà (1963-1973).

ABSTRACT In Brazil, the modernizing impact of the 1950s and 1960s and the victory of the Cuban Revolution in 1959, has produced fears within the conservative sectors of Brazilian society, especially for the Catholic church. In these years, two perspectives of interpretation about those signs of modernity had been solidified and radicalized: one from liberal hue which argued that the Church should be open to new times; another, inherently conservative, was articulated in order to disqualifying efforts on update and insertion of the Church on problematic of Brazilian reality. The first stream, was named the "Catholic Left" for defending theses that could cause disruptions in the socioeconomic structure that kept the country in the list of underdeveloped nations and has its origin in movements led by bishops, priests and laity, especially from the Northeast, such as "Movement from Natal", the creation of the National Conference of Bishops of Brazil (CNBB) and the "Basic Education Movement". At that historical moment, the Second Vatican Council, convened by Pope John XXIII, assumes before the Catholic Church a position of openness, dialogue with the world and challenge of an aggiornamento, inspiring new designs to Catholicism, corroborating, somehow, some actions already developed by pastoral from Church in Brazil, especially in the Northeast. The main scope of this thesis is to narrate the major social, political and pastoral issues that marked the passing of Don Jose de Medeiros Delgado by Archbishop of Fortaleza, between the 1960s and 1970s decades.

This study intends to analyze the complexity which involves the debate, in its wider sense, between the Catholic and Candomblé discourses within the Post-Vatican II context. Firstly, I intend to comprehend how the Catholic discourses about the Afro-Brazilian religions were built in the time period that follows the II Vatican Council, noticing their differences when contrasted with the immediately previous period (from the 40’s to the 60’s). Sencondly, I analyze some sample discourses of two well-known sacred spaces in Bahia, Brazil - the Ilê Axé Opô Afonjá and the Ilê Axé Iyá Nassô Oká - (the latter also known as Terreiro da Casa Branca). Finally, I intend to mainly demonstrate that there are significant possibilities for answers to the Catholic discourse about the Afro-Brazilian religions within the Candomblé scope, which were driven specially by the controversies around the syncretism.

The rising of modernity brought out several issues for the Roman Catholic Church. Since its first movements, the ecclesiastic institution had been threatened by the emergent forces, both in the ground of its temporal power, and in the ground of its theological thought. In the 19th century, two ways of seeing the “signs of the times” were designed: one – based on a liberal inclination – advocated that the Church should “open” itself for the new disposals; and other – based on a conservative inclination – noticed with suspicion the new rising world, and supported feverously the disciplinal and doctrinal order. Both streams had its projections on Brazil, and throughout the 20th Century it was possible to notice the growing division inside the Brazilian Catholicism. The II Vatican Council could be considered the ground where those two thought streams had encountered each other and had fought for a greater influence on the Christianity future. The main purpose of this thesis is to present the approaches that mark the conservative inclination thought, its organization, and its main actions inside the Council.

[pt] OS SACRAMENTOS COMO CONTINUAÇÃO DOS ATOS DE CRISTO NA IGREJA / [en] THE SACRAMENTS AS A CONTINUATION OF THE ACTS OF CHRIST IN THE CHURCH

05 June 2017 (has links)
[en] It has been possible to rediscover a more biblical, ecclesial and prophetic concept of the sacraments celebrated by the Church through the dialogue promoted by the Liturgical Movement and the Second Vatican Council, between exegesis, patristics and dogmatic theology. The sacraments, in light of the conciliar thought, have been approached by theology as acts of Christ himself, and they have continued in the life of his Church. The guiding thread of our research is the deep relationship that exists between the theology of prophets symbolic actions and those of Jesus, which are extended to the liturgical celebrations of the Christian community and in the lived witness of the baptized. Through these celebrations, those who believe are inserted into the life of the Risen One and they are called to prolong in their own lives the words and actions of Christ. In this way, the ones who have faith become aware of exercising the prophetic ministry entrusted to them by baptism. The understanding of the sacraments as prophetic actions is able to revealing to the Church the prophetic mission that it is called to practice in the world of today, as well as its condition as the sacrament of Christ for the salvation of all men.

Druhý vatikánský koncil a jeho následovníci / Second Vatican Council and his followers

Poslední, Petra January 2021 (has links)
In my thesis I came to several conclusions. Holy Fathers John XXIII., Paul IV. and Francis, who followed and related the legacy of II. of the Vatican Council to, are much more popular in society than the popes, who have a different opinion and do not support the last ecumenical council. The openness of the personality and the pope's approach to the church modernization is for public absolutely necessary. Another crucial aspect for today's church is for sure the media world.

Vatikán a Československo v roce 1968 / Vatican and Czechoslovakia in 1968

Nedvěd, René January 2021 (has links)
The thesis deals with the Czechoslovakia - Vatican relationships in the 1960's with an emphasis on the 1968 Prague Spring time. It summarises the importance of the 2nd Ecumenical Council of the Vatican and demonstrates the transformation of the papacy starting with early 1960's. The core of the thesis is an analysis of the political relations between Czechoslovakia and Vatican in 1968, and the attitude of Pope Saint Paul VI. (1963-1978) to the events in Czechoslovakia, with added emphasis on the personalities of Czech and Slovak bishops, negotiations between the Church and the state, as well as the metamorphoses of the Czechoslovakia-Vatican diplomatic contacts. The diplomatic negotiations present an interesting bonus primarily from the Radio Vaticana archive, which is available, in a digital version, at the Institute for the Study of Totalitarian Regimes website. Keywords Communism; Vatican II - Second Ecumenical Council of the Vatican; Pope St. Paul VI.; Catholic Church; Vatican.

The Sacrament of Confirmation - the theological understanding in the catechetical materials and regulations of the dioceses (in Slovak Republic and Czech Republic) and its comparison with the theological concept in the magisterial documents from the second Vatican council until now.

Matisovská, Zuzana January 2019 (has links)
The thesis "The Sacrament of Confirmation - the theological understanding in the particular documents and regulations of the dioceses (in Slovak Republic and Czech Republic) and its comparison with the theological concept in the universal magisterial documents from the second Vatican council until now" deals with the sacrament of confirmation as the essential part of Christian initiation which constitutes the heart of sacramental organism and shapes being of every Christian. First two chapters analyze presence of the seven aspects of confirmation in universal and particular magisterial documents (history of salvation; sacramental sign; relationship to the rest of initiation, common priesthood and apostolate; effects; recipient and catechesis; minister; ecumenical perspective). Then in the third chapter, the two approaches are compared and critically considered.

Ekumenismus v díle Josefa Kubalíka / Ecumenism in the work of Josef Kubalík

Chocenská, Vlasta January 2012 (has links)
The thesis "Ecumenism in the work of Josef Kubalík" provides an overview of several works of professor Josef Kubalík. His works influenced generations of students of Catholic theology. Author was a professor of Fundamental Theology at Cyrilometodějská bohoslovecká faculty in Litoměřice in the second half of the 20th century. He wrote a lot of books, university textbooks and ariticles in specialized press. Theologia Fundamentalis has been his most known work. Which is partly still under the influence of manualistic, apologetic-polemical theology. In his later reissues are added council documents Dei Verbum and Lumen Gentium. He translated documents of Second Vatican Ecumenical Council for professional public. We compare his work to these documents and to Ut Unum Sint. At the end it is said, that professor Kubalík grew in the openness and friendliness towards non - Catholics. But he was unable to change given schemes of his thinking.

Diskuse o liturgickém prostoru v českém jazykovém prostředí - historie a současnost (II. část - Od II. vatikánského koncilu po současnost) / Discussion about Liturgical Space in Our Country between the Second Vatican Coucil and presence

Jirsa, Prokop January 2014 (has links)
The outcomes of the Second Vatican Council have brought essential changes into liturgy, having impacted the liturgical space as well. However, the totalitarian communist regime that was in power in Czech lands at the time allowed only a limited space for the application of the Council outcomes in practice. That is why the post-Council situation in liturgy is in many ways unique in the Czech Republic. After the Velvet Revolution there was a rapid and rapturous development that has brought not only positives, but also certain negatives stemming from the too-quickly loosening grip of bondage. The aim of this thesis is to monitor the state of the discussion on liturgical space in the period between the Second Vatican Council and the present day. The theoretical part looks at the summary of the discussion in the Czech Republic before the Second Vatican Council, then briefly presents concept of sacred space of the Second Vatican Council and at the end outlines the pre-Council and the post-Council European context. The practical part consists in the finding, researching and evaluating of materials concerning the subject. They have been assessed according to three main criteria. The first is a historical viewpoint sorting the materials by the time they came into being. The second classifies them by the...

[pt] OS SACRAMENTOS COMO FORÇAS QUE SAEM DO CORPO DE CRISTO: UM CONTRIBUTO AO CONCEITO DE SACRAMENTO À LUZ DA TEOLOGIA DO CONCÍLIO VATICANO II / [en] THE SACRAMENTS AS POWERS THAT COMES FORTH FROM THE BODY OF CHRIST: A CONTRIBUTION TO THE CONCEPT OF SACRAMENT IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE THEOLOGY OF THE SECOND VATICAN COUNCIL

ANDERSON BATISTA MONTEIRO 25 May 2022 (has links)
[en] The main purpose of this thesis is to contribute to a renewed concept of the sacraments of the Church, starting from the liturgical theology of the symbolic actions of the prophets of Israel and Jesus. With the advance of biblical research, patristic and dogmatic, it has been possible to explore a more biblical and ecclesial concept of the sacraments celebrated by the Church. In the light of the Second Vatican Council, the liturgical nature of the prophetic acts performed by the prophets and by Jesus is outlined. As signs of God s power, inserted in salvation history, these acts are prolonged in the world today through the liturgy of the Church. Inserted in the last stage of the historia salutis, the sacraments are divine acts that reveal Christ s saving presence in the world and anticipate the eschatological fulfillment of the kingdom of God. Therefore, the sacraments as prophetic acts of the Church want to bring about a renewed expression of the liturgical acts of the Church. The symbolic actions cause a response, making the Christian participate actively in the mystery and understand that the sacraments are acts that have a transforming force in their own life, in the Church, and in the whole world.
