[en] LEISURE ALONG WITH THE MOTHERS: CHILDREN´S LEISURE CONSTRAINTS / [pt] LAZER JUNTO COM AS MÃES: RESTRIÇÕES AO LAZER INFANTIL

ISABELA NASCIMENTO OGRADY 09 November 2007 (has links)
[en] The purpose of the present study is to identify the factors that prevent or restrict the consumption of children`s leisure activities. In order to achieve the proposed objectives the Constraints to Leisure model developed by Crawford, Jackson and Godbey (1991) was used. To better understand how the Children s leisure decisions are taken and to identify its associated constraints mothers of several generations were chosen as subjects to participate in the field research. This kind of approach was selected as way a to identify different attitudes concerning the topic among the target. The data was collected through qualitative research methodology, using as tools focus groups and in-depth interviews. The results demonstrated that the constraints identified did not represent an issue for the mothers while engaging in leisure activities with their children. The intrapersonal barriers haven`t shown any relevance for the target. However, all mothers interviewed, regardless of their age, pointed out various interpersonal and structural barriers that can have a direct impact in their day-today lives, concerning both family and social aspects. The findings achieved in this study are relevant to help companies in the entertainment industry to build more accurate and efficient marketing strategies and also to help the government by providing information that could support decisions concerning investments and financing projects related to the kids entertainment.

Životní styl, oblíbené činnosti a největší obavy občanů ve věku 65 a více let / Lifestyle, the most popular activities and concerns of citizens aged 65 and over.

GAPKOVÁ, Jiřina January 2013 (has links)
Demographic statistics show that nowadays a proportion of seniors is increasingly growing in our population. Therefore it is very important to pay close attention to this group. The threshold age of sixty-five years is mainly associated with a longer retirement age. This turn occurs from day to day when a person has got a much more leisure time and must to cope with it in some way. I focused on the lifestyle, favourite activities and the greatest fear of people over 65 years in my diploma thesis. The thesis concentrates to an interconnection of the lifestyle with the health and the state of health of an individual. The research sample consisted of thirty respondents from the districts of Mladá Boleslav and České Budějovice. The respondents were approached by a random selection. Fifteen respondents, nine women and six men were from the district of Mladá Boleslav, ten women and five men were from the district of České Budějovice. There were established quota criteria - the age over 65, the residence in the district of Mladá Boleslav or in the district of České Budějovice and a willingness to take part anonymously in the research too. The research in the given areas took place in the months from December to March and in various environments: in libraries, shopping centres, traffic means (train, bus) as well as in streets of towns and villages. The results were processed in form of thirty case studies which were written in three areas: the identification, health and lifestyle and leisure time. Transparent tables were developed from the case studies. The interviews show that among the most favourite seniors´ activities belong reading of books, newspapers and magazines, watching TV and doing crossword puzzles. These three the most often and the most favourite activities were indicated both by respondents from the district of Mladá Boleslav and from the district of České Budějovice as well. The respondents´ greatest fear is of their health, it is followed by the fear of losing their children. These two concerns appeared on the top places at both of the groups of respondents. The third frequent fear was mentioned as a concern about the household in the district of Mladá Boleslav and the fear of the loneliness in the district of České Budějovice. Eleven of the thirty respondents said, that they have no fear (five in the district of Mladá Boleslav and six in the district of České Budějovice). The practical part also showed that cultural and social events are attended by nineteen from the thirty respondents, eleven of them do not take part in any events, most commonly for the reason of a poor state of their health or for the reason they do not want it at all. Eighteen respondents participate in sporting events, actively only four of them, twelve respondents do not attend any sporting events. None of them studies Academy or University of the Third Age and seems to be interested in studies. Only two seniors from the district of Mladá Boleslav are members of the seniors´ club. Differences in the lifestyle, favourite activities and the fears between the districts of Mladá Boleslav and České Budějovice are minimal. Following hypotheses can be drawn on the basis of the research, though it would be advisable to check them on a larger number of respondents. ?Seniors´ lifestyle is largely influenced by the state of health.? ?Especially the concern about the poor state of health belongs to the most frequent mentioned seniors´ fears? ?Mainly reading of books, watching TV and doing crossword puzzles belong to the most favourite seniors´ activities.? The diploma thesis could be used as a support of the healthy lifestyle and at the same time it could be used for an expansion or implementation of leisure-time activities for seniors from the districts of Mladá Boleslav and České Budějovice at the age group of people over 65.

Corpo do lazer: reflexões a partir da vida lesada na hipermodernidade / Body of leisure: reflections from an injured life in the hipermodernity

Kátia Flores Pinheiro 18 March 2010 (has links)
This thesis, Body of Leisure: reflections from an injured life in the hypermodernity, represents an exercise of reflection and investigation about leisure as psychosocial phenomenon nowadays. As a reflection, part of the body, as gravity center of subjectivity, takes epistemological reference from some theorists of the first generation of Frankfurt School, the Freudian psychoanalysis and the French scholars who named the present time as hypermodernity. Other thinkers have also permeated these reflections, mainly those who enable the argumentative critical bias. Therefore, as a matter of investigation, a field material in a folder format had its discursive construction around leisure outlined; which forms the analysis object of the qualitative and documental research. In this thesis, the reflection and the investigation complement each other in the comprehension of the articulations of the two main axes, the desire and market spheres, intertwining the notion of body of leisure in hypermodern times, and, in this way, seeking to questioning the hypermodernity as a product and scenery in which the human existence is damaged in its elementary particles of a fair life, which means, damaged in the minimal modes of being and staying in this world. In the field of entertainment, the damaged life is perceived as psychosocial suffering and underlies in the subtle tricks from the marketing leisure activities in expansion in the hypermodernity. This scenery produces new processes of subjectivation, which are also a result from the current leisure practices aimed to consumption, and, for this reason, the leisure acquires trade value in the hypermodern reality. As the body is in the center of the hypermodern scene in expansion among cities, it is the focus of the subjectivation processes for this research. In this way, the body is approached with the tragicomic and erotic-narcissistic notions, besides other developments, in order to place the body of leisure. As a way to explore the thematic, will be presented reflections from the concept of leisure, the initiation of leisure in the modernity, and also the analysis of how it is currently inserted in the market mechanisms orientated by the economic logic which foster the entertainment industry to fulfill the human desires for pleasure as a routine of senses and sensations turned to the body. As an example of this scenery, Barra da Tijuca, in the city of Rio de Janeiro, was chosen as the urban space to perform this research, because, in this neighborhood, the hypermodernity can be spontaneously verified. As the conclusive aspects, the body of leisure, on one hand, seems to be the aim of market interests focus upon profitability and its goals to increase life in the supposed free time, based on emotionality and states of happiness. On the other hand, the captured body is in a reduced and fragmented condition for the same instrumental strategies of speculative capitalism, which encourages modes of subjectivation guided by consumption and ephemeral pleasures. However, this process occurs with the agreement of the subject affect by these strategies, in the same way as this subject itself can affect and determine those strategies, and so, produces its effects in the market schemes. The reflection of this thesis will take place in this gap between subject and market.

Women's leisure in urban Turkey : a comparative neighbourhood study

Demirbas, Gokben January 2018 (has links)
This thesis examines women’s everyday experiences of leisure in two neighbourhoods of urban Turkey, drawing on qualitative data derived from interviews and observations with women living in the city of Bursa. By examining the relationship between women’s leisure and their labour, everyday mobility, and socialisation at a neighbourhood level, the thesis contributes to contemporary debates on leisure within the wider feminist literature, as well as to the current growing interest in everyday life in Turkish social science literature. Examination of the feminist literature on women’s leisure suggests that contextualising leisure within the structure of women’s everyday as a whole is fundamental to an understanding of their leisure. The more contemporary feminist studies on women’s leisure focus on how to understand the dynamic and ever-changing nature of power struggles between different groups, with different capitals and identities, in a specific context. The newly emerging studies on women’s leisure within different country contexts, outside of the North American and European sphere, foreground the necessity to embed leisure experiences within socio-cultural aspects of the context, where additional dynamics, such as the role of religion or the meanings attributed to family and individual independence may significantly differ from Western societies. The current thesis builds on and expands these later works by projecting the empirical focus on Turkey and thereby shedding light on the relevance and limitations of the existing literature in explaining women’s leisure in other contexts around the world. It critically engages with the existing research on (women’s) leisure in Turkey, which is scant and embodies certain limitations. The findings presented in this study illustrate that the prevailing gender order, which confines women to the ideals of the heterosexual family, plays a central role in regulating leisure behaviour. Class, particularly, gives shape both to the existence of leisure spaces in one’s neighbourhood and constructs the “respectability” of social behaviour differently. The thesis makes an original contribution to the existing feminist leisure research in terms of rethinking traditional assumptions about leisure, broadening the definition of leisure and highlighting the significance of local cultural context. It also makes an original contribution to research on gendered everyday in Turkey by evidencing the usefulness of the concept of leisure as a lens to investigate the urban everyday, beyond the dichotomies of work time, free time, workspace, family space, production/consumption etc.

The thesis is divided into six chapters. The first chapter defines the concept of leisure time and describes a brief history of leisure time. The second chapter deals with pedagogical trends based on existentialism and philosophy of education in relation to values. The third chapter classifies the values and expounds three specific values, which are essential for this work the beauty, the goodness and the importance of meaning of life. Lazer sério e envelhecimento: loucos por corrida

Oliveira, Saulo Neves de January 2010 (has links)
This study turns to the theme of leisure and aging, focusing on the street racers. Between different levels of commitment, in which sport can be practiced, this study works with a group of runners, who devote considerable time and effort in a systematic way in this activity. He was elected a group of runners among a large list of running groups that have formed in recent years in Porto Alegre, capital of Rio Grande do Sul. Observations, conversations, photos, exchange e-mails and other data were collected on the intention to seek different perspectives on the phenomena observed. With an ethnographic approach, we seek to identify, analyze and interpret events that indicate relationships between the practice of road race and the aging of the runners. These practices are regarded as “serious leisure”, a concept proposed by the sociologist Robert Stebbins. Show up at work the ways in which aspects of aging within a runners group is related with a broader context. These manifestations are understood as “realizations”, and the dynamic processes, understood as “actualization” based on the work of the philosopher Pierre Lévy. Ways of coping with adversity, communication, among other “realizations” pointed to these movements ambivalent and interdependet at “serious leisure”. These guide for new possibilities of aging, new aging styles. The main “realizations” were manifested in the categories of irony, insanity, viruses, transgression and back, recapitulating the ways in which the runners deal with old age and aging. Within a three-dimensional composite by interactions within the group of runners, with society and themselves, these “realizations” show settings creative and innovative learning, teaching and changing old age and aging from aging styles that arise in the practice of “serious leisure”.
