[en] STRUCTURAL ANALYSIS WITH USE OF DAUBECHIES WAVELETS AND DESLAURIERS-DUBUC INTERPOLETS / [pt] ANÁLISE DE ESTRUTURAS UTILIZANDO WAVELETS DE DAUBECHIES E INTERPOLETS DE DESLAURIERS-DUBUCRODRIGO BIRD BURGOS 20 April 2010 (has links)
[en] The use of compactly supported wavelet functions has become increasingly
popular in the development of numerical solutions for differential equations.
Daubechies wavelets have been successfully used as base functions in several
schemes like the Galerkin Method. Meanwhile, Deslauriers and Dubuc developed
a new wavelet family with interpolating characteristics called Interpolets. One
important contribution presented in this work is the formulation of Finite
Elements based in Daubechies wavelets and Deslauriers-Dubuc interpolets.
Dynamic problems like wave propagation and structural stability problems were
used as examples for the validation of the Finite Elements. The Wavelet-Galerkin
Method has then been adapted for the direct solution of differential equations in a
meshless formulation. This approach enables the use of a multiresolution analysis.
Several examples with discontinuities and nonlinearities were studied
successfully.

[en] EVALUATION OF CRITICAL LOADS AND INITIAL POST-BUCKLING BEHAVIOR OF PORTAL FRAMES / [pt] AVALIAÇÃO DE CARGAS CRÍTICAS E COMPORTAMENTO PÓS-CRÍTICO INICIAL DE PÓRTICOS PLANOSRODRIGO BIRD BURGOS 27 July 2005 (has links)
Finalmente, criaram-
[en] The buckling and post-buckling behavior of portal frames
are studied by the formulation of finite elements with
additional degrees of freedom in order to implement a new
routine for obtaining critical loads in FTOOL, a
structural analysis educational interactive system.
Linearized analyses were performed in order to obtain
critical loads and buckling modes for columns with
different boundary conditions. Later, numerical tests were
done in order to predict the stability of the post-
critical path (sensitivity to imperfections) of some
structures which analytical results are known. Finally,
some examples were modeled in FTOOL to verify its accuracy
in obtaining critical loads of portal frames. Roorda s
frame was used as an example for the detection of the
sensitivity to imperfections, based on its simplicity and
knowledge of its analytical results.

[pt] OTIMIZAÇÃO TOPOLÓGICA PARA PROBLEMAS DE AUTOVALOR USANDO ELEMENTOS FINITOS POLIGONAIS / [en] TOPOLOGY OPTIMIZATION FOR EIGENVALUE PROBLEMS USING POLYGONAL FINITE ELEMENTSMIGUEL ANGEL AMPUERO SUAREZ 17 November 2016 (has links)
[en] In this work, we present some applications of topology optimization for eigenvalue problems where the main goal is to maximize a specified eigenvalue, such as a natural frequency or a linearized buckling load using polygonal finite elements in arbitrary two-dimensional domains. Topology optimization has commonly been used to minimize the compliance of structures subjected to volume constraints. The idea is to distribute a certain amount of material in a given design domain subjected to a set of loads and boundary conditions such that to maximize its stiffness. In this work, the objective is to obtain the optimal material distribution in order to maximize the fundamental natural frequency (e.g. to keep it away from an external excitation frequency) or to maximize the lowest critical buckling load (e.g. to ensure a higher level of stability of the structures). We employ unstructured polygonal meshes constructed using Voronoi tessellations for the solution of the structural topology optimization problems. The design variables, i.e. material densities, used in the optimization scheme, are associated with each polygonal element in the mesh. We present several topology optimization examples for both eigenfrequency and buckling problems in order to demonstrate the functionality and applicability of the proposed methodology.

[en] PHYSICAL AND MECHANICAL CHARACTERISTICS OF THE ENTIRE BAMBOO PHYLLOSTACHYS AUREA: BUCKLING BEHAVIOR / [pt] CARACTERIZAÇÃO FÍSICA E MECÂNICA DE COLMOS INTEIROS DE BAMBU DA ESPÉCIE PHYLLOSTACHYS AUREA: COMPORTAMENTO À FLAMBAGEMMARTHA LISSETTE SANCHEZ CRUZ 01 September 2003 (has links)
colmos. Desde 1979, no Departamento de Engenharia Civil da
PUC-Rio foram desenvolvidos, sob a orientação do professor
presente trabalho concentra-se na caracterização da espécie
Phyllostachys aurea, tão utilizada no mundo do artesanato e
objetivos principais: caracterizar as propriedades
no comportamento à flambagem . A determinação experimental
[en] The use of bamboo in civil construction requires a thorough
analysis of its physical, mechanical and mesostructural
properties. For this purpose several investigations have
been carried out in the Civil Engineering Department at
PUCRio since 1979. Other vegetal fibers have been studied
as well for their feasibility to be used as low cost
building materials in order to substitute asbestos cement
products in addition to non-renewable and polluting
materials such as steel and aluminum.
This present study is the continuation of the investigation
to establish the engineering properties of the bamboo's
appropriate for civil construction. This work concentrates
on the bamboo species Phyllostachys aurea which is utilized
frequently in the interior design and architectural
project, and in general in civil construction about which
there is very little scientific information in the available
national and international literature. The principal
objectives of this study were to establish the physical,
mechanical and mesostructural characteristics of the whole
culms of the bamboo species Phyllostachys aurea and to
analyze how its specific geometric imperfections influence
the buckling behavior of the culm. The experimental
analysis of the bamboo culm, concerning the static tensile,
shear and compressive properties is presented as well as
the influence of preservative treatments on their
performance.

[pt] ANÁLISE DO COLAPSO DE ESTRUTURAS COM NÃO LINEARIDADE FÍSICA E GEOMÉTRICA / [en] COLLAPSE ANALYSIS OF STRUCTURES WITH GEOMETRIC AND MATERIAL NONLINEARITYCARLOS JAVIER MELCHOR PLACENCIA 04 August 2020 (has links)
[en] This work presents three kinds of techniques for collapse analysis using the finite element method: linear buckling analysis, nonlinear buckling analysis and full nonlinear analysis. The linear buckling analysis requires the definition of an eigenvalue problem using a stiffness matrix formulation based on the initial
configuration of the structure and under the assumption of a linear elastic material behavior. In the case of nonlinear buckling analysis, the eigenvalue problem was formulated employing an incremental stiffness matrix in order to consider the effects of large displacements and nonlinear material properties in the critical load estimation. Finally, the full nonlinear analysis takes into account the deformed configuration and the nonlinear material properties of the structure, updating both of them through all the incremental-iterative process up to reaching the critical load. A Finite Element computational program, using plane stress isoperimetric bidimensional elements, was developed to study the three analysis techniques
applied to plane structures such as beams, columns, frames and arches. The deformed configuration of the structure, due to large displacements and rotations, was considered through the Total Lagrangian formulation, whereas the inelastic material behavior was modeled using the Von Mises plasticity model with
isotropic hardening. The examples presented in this article show the influence of geometric and material nonlinearity in the critical load estimation and the postcritical behavior, being this the reason for the potential occurrence of bifurcation points over the fundamental equilibrium path defined in the load-displacement space.
