Beiträge zur analytischen Berechnung und Reduktion der aus Netzspannungsunsymmetrien resultierenden Harmonischen in Systemen der Hochspannungs-Gleichstrom-Übertragung / Contributions to the Analytical Calculation and to the Reduction of Non-Characteristic Harmonics in High Voltage Direct Current Systems resulting from Unbalanced Voltages in the AC systems

Achenbach, Sven 30 July 2010 (has links) (PDF)
An AC system’s voltage unbalance by a fundamental frequency negative sequence system is usually the main cause for the emission of non-characteristic harmonics by current source converters as used in conventional HVDC systems. This emission takes place on both sides of each 12-pulse converter. On the DC side mainly a 2nd harmonic voltage appears driving a 2nd harmonic current. The magnitude of this harmonic current can exceed the magnitudes of the characteristic harmonics even if no low order resonance exists. Further non-characteristic harmonics generated by the converter under such unbalanced supply voltage conditions have frequencies with a frequency distance to the characteristic harmonics of 2 times the fundamental frequency. The main technical drawbacks are the unintended coupling between both AC systems and the risk of thyristor over-stresses by DC current discontinuities at low power transfer levels. On both AC sides the largest 2 non-characteristic current harmonics generated by a 12-pulse HVDC converter under unbalanced supply voltage conditions are a negative sequence system of the fundamental harmonic and a positive sequence system of the 3rd harmonic. Also on the AC sides further harmonics are emitted by the converter with a order number distance of 2 to the orders of the characteristic harmonics. However, in practical AC system operation special attention has to be paid to the 3rd harmonic distortion level, in particular when low order resonance appears between the system impedance and the impedance of the converter station AC filters. In order to avoid the above mentioned problems, large smoothing reactors and sometimes large blocking filters are installed on the DC side and the voltage distortion on the AC sides is reduced by AC filters. However, these filters require an expensive high component rating if they are tuned to the 2nd or 3rd harmonic respectively. The work shows that a modification of the valve firing can reduce the levels of the 2nd and 3rd harmonic without investment into additional primary equipment. Furthermore, this offers the chance to reduce the minimum power transfer level since also the risk of an intermittent DC current can be reduced. A corresponding algorithm and a control strategy are proposed. However, the calculation of an appropriate firing pattern requires a detailed modelling of the processes within the converters, especially the formation of the harmonics and the harmonic transfer between AC and DC sides. The work proposes a component vector model for the calculation of the harmonics. This model assumes that each harmonic consists of a first component representing the ideal conversion process, a 2nd component representing the impact of different commutation angles and in the case of the modified firing a 3rd component considering the impact of the intended non-equidistant firing. The work shows, that the harmonic component vectors resulting from voltage unbalance and from firing modulation can be treated separately and superimposed linearly. The calculation of the harmonic component vectors is performed applying the method of switching functions. For the consideration of the commutation and firing angle differences the modelling of switching functions based on differential impulses is proposed. However, especially an accurate representation of the above mentioned 2nd component vector requires a correct calculation of the commutation angles and their valve-specific differences. The investigations of this work have revealed that the conventional method of calculating the commutation angles – assuming an ideal smoothed DC current - may not produce results of sufficient accuracy. This is especially true in the case of a high ripple of the DC current, e.g. smoothed with a small smoothing reactor. A small smoothing reactor is typical for HVDC back-to-back applications. Therefore a new analytical method for the calculation of the commutation angles has been developed which in particular considers the typical pulse form of the DC current and additionally the impacts of the voltage unbalance and of the proposed modification of the firing on the ripple shape of the DC current. Moreover, as this analytical method requires the instantaneous values of the DC current at the instants of valve firing, a further analytical method for the calculation of these discrete current values has been developed. The equations are valid under the same conditions as the new ones for calculation of the commutation angles, i.e. resistive-inductive AC system fundamental frequency impedances, any degree of DC current smoothing between ideal smoothing and a ripple at the limit for current discontinuities. Symmetrical conditions, supply voltage unbalances and non-equidistant firing as proposed are applied. It is shown that, using this method, also the discrete values of the DC current at the end of the commutation intervals can be determined. In practice one of these discrete current values indicates the minimum value during one period of the fundamental frequency. This offers the chance for a more exact analytical determination of the limit for the appearance of DC current discontinuities. For typical parameters of a back-to-back installation the new methods and the new analytical equations have been compared with simulation results showing excellent correlation for typical voltage unbalances of not more than 1...2% and firing angle differences of not more than 2.5°. This verification is performed for the harmonics, the commutation angles and the discrete values of the DC current at the firing instants as well.

Endosymbiosis in Paramecium characterization of novel systems, transmission routes, and the influence of abiotic stress factors

Szokoli, Franziska 13 July 2017 (has links)
Symbiosis between bacteria and single celled eukaryotes, such as ciliates and amoebae, is a widespread phenomenon. In the past years, the number of species characterizations of symbiotic bacteria, has constantly grown. Especially members of the order Rickettsiales (Alphaproteobacteria), which comprises obligate intracellular human and animal pathogens as well as other non-pathogenic intracellular species, got into the focus. However, biodiversity of both, protists and associated bacterial symbionts, is still largely underestimated. Thus, I hypothesised that different kind of bacteria occur naturally in the ciliate Paramecium, that paramecia can serve as potential reservoir for human and animal pathogens, and that the species distribution of Paramecium and its endosymbionts shows geographical patterns. In the present thesis, I provide data on the distribution and diversity of Paramecium species and their endosymbionts isolated from freshwater and brackish habitats from North and South America. The most frequent species were Paramecium biaurelia, Paramecium caudatum and Paramecium multimicronucleatum for the North American samples as well as P. multimicronucleatum and Paramecium calkinsi for the South American samples indicating geographical differences in the species distribution of Paramecium between the two continents. Monoclonal cultures were screened for the presence of endosymbionts by fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) using universal and specific probes. I detected bacterial endosymbionts belonging to different taxa of Rickettsiales sensu lato in Paramecium-cultures isolated from eight different habitats. Moreover, I characterized the four novel endosymbiont species “Candidatus Fokinia solitaria”, “Candidatus Fokinia cryptica”, “Candidatus Bealeia paramacronuclearis” and “Candidatus Jurandia parameciophila”, respectively, presenting detailed descriptions. Thus, I did not only detect various bacterial symbionts in different host species from two continents, but I also identified bacteria related to human and animal pathogens. Moreover, phylogenetic information provided by the four novel bacterial species helped me to revise the taxonomic organisation of the order Rickettsiales, which I split into the two orders Rickettsiales sensu stricto and Holosporales ord. nov. The importance and severity of a symbiosis for its host can be estimated, among others, by studying the symbionts transmission modes. Most host-symbiont systems in nature show a mixed mode of transmission, even if one transmission type occurs only rarely. Moreover, evolution of exclusively vertically or horizontally transmitted symbionts is scarce. However, circumstances for horizontal transmission of many symbiont species so far described as vertically transmitted, are completely unknown and still need to be revealed. Therefore, I assumed that both, vector organisms and environmental stress, can trigger horizontal transmission. I performed different sets of infection experiments using vector organisms and environmental stress factors as driving forces to trigger horizontal transmission. In experiments focused on vector-induced transmission, I was not able to confirm vector properties of Holospora towards Caedibacter, as described towards food bacteria. However, I rarely observed vector-independent horizontal transmission of Caedibacter taeniospiralis towards symbiont-free Paramecium species. The here tested genotypes of C. taeniospiralis might still take advantage of additional horizontal transmission, even if it occurs rarely. In addition, I tested the effect of salinity and temperature stress on the transmission of the recently described bacterial symbionts “Candidatus Megaira polyxenophila” and “Ca. Bealeia paramacronuclearis” as potentially interesting representatives. The involved symbiont and host genotypes differed in their response to the induced environmental stress. Results of horizontal transmission turned out to be ambiguous. While temperature stress did not show any effect on transmission, salinity stress could possibly induce horizontal transmission of “Ca. Megaira polyxenophila” at slightly increased salinity concentrations in regard to normal conditions indicating the significance of environmental stress for the selection of the preferred transmission mode. Bealeia paramacronuclearis” come rappresentanti potenzialmente interessanti.

Lower SARS-CoV-2 household transmission in children and adolescents compared to adults

Schumm, L., Blankenburg, J., Kahre, E., Armann, J., Dalpke, A. H., Lück, C., Berner, R., Czyborra, P. 05 April 2024 (has links)
In the COVID-19 pandemic, children were considered to play a major role in SARS-CoV-2 transmission similar to influenza. Thus, mitigation measures have been focused on children, impacting their everyday life severely. Despite this, infectivity in this age group regarding SARS-CoV-2 is not yet clarified. We performed a serology study in households with confirmed SARS-CoV-2 infection to evaluate virus transmission with focus on children and adolescents. Between January and July 2021, 341 minors and 650 adults from 300 households with a confirmed index case participated in the FamilyCoviDD19-study including serological assessment for SARS-CoV-2 antibodies and a questionnaire on demographics, recent and ongoing symptoms, hygiene measures and comorbidities. 45 (16.3%) of all index cases were < 18 years old. Thereof, 55.6% reported COVID-19 associated symptoms, while nearly all adult index cases were symptomatic (94.8%). There was significantly less virus transmission by children and adolescents compared to adult index cases with a secondary attack rate of 0.29 vs. 0.54. With the caveat that the results do not necessarily apply to the Delta and Omicron variants, we conclude that children and adolescents are less susceptible for SARS-CoV-2 infection, more frequently show an asymptomatic course of disease and are less infective than adults.

Neuroligin-4: Einfluss auf die synaptische Übertragung exzitatorischer Neurone der Schicht IV des Barrel-Kortex / Neuroligin-4: Effect on synaptic transmission of excitatory neurons in layer IV of barrel-cortex

Olt, Stephen 20 November 2013 (has links)

Tribological Evaluation of Lead-Free Materials for Sustainable Sliding Pads in Gearbox Applications / Tribologisk evaluering av blyfria material för miljövänliga glidplattor i växellådor.

Lind, Casper January 2024 (has links)
Today, lead is used in various engineering applications due to its desirable tribological properties. However, the negative health and environmental impacts associated with lead have raised concerns and resulted in regulatory restrictions on its use. It is therefore nessessary to fnd lead-free materials that can provide similar or even better performance than the commonly used lead-containing alloys. Scania, currently uses leaded alloys for a number of gearbox components where sliding wear can be an issue. This study aims to evaluate the tribological properties of fve lead-free alternative materials and assess their suitability as replacement for the currently used material, Leaded Brass. The tests were conducted in a pin-on-disk setup under similar conditions of those found in Scania’s gearbox. The results showed that the friction and wear was similar between Copper Beryllium and Leaded Brass, which indicates that Copper Beryllium is a potential replacement. Additionally, Nedox and Aluminum Bronze (APS) demonstrated signifcantly superior wear resistance, exhibiting 97% less wear compared to Leaded Brass while maintaining similar friction levels. These results underscore the potential for implementing lead-free materials to enhance sustainability and performance in critical applications like gearbox components.
