Modélisation dynamique des systèmes disque aubes multi-étages : Effets des incertitudes / Dynamic modeling of multistage blade disk systems : Effects of uncertainties

Les conceptions récentes de turbomachines ont tendance à évoluer vers des liaisons entre étages de plus en plus souples et des niveaux d'amortissement faibles, donnant lieu à des configurations où les modes sont susceptibles de présenter des niveaux de couplages inter-étages forts. En général, les ensembles disques aubes multi-étagés n'ont aucune propriété de symétrie cyclique d'ensemble et l'analyse doit porter sur un modèle de la structure complète donnant lieu à des calculs très coûteux. Pour palier ce problème, une méthode récente appelée symétrie cyclique multi-étages peut être utilisée pour réduire le coût des calculs des rotors composés de plusieurs étages, même lorsque les étages ont un nombre différent de secteurs. Cette approche profite de la symétrie cyclique inhérente à chaque étage et utilise une hypothèse spécifique qui aboutit à des sous-problèmes découplés pour chaque ordre de Fourier spatial. La méthodologie proposée vise à étudier l'effet des incertitudes sur le comportement dynamique des rotors en utilisant l'approche de symétrie cyclique multi-étages et l'expansion en Chaos Polynomial. Les incertitudes peuvent découler de l'usure des aubes, des changements de température ou des tolérances de fabrication. En première approche, seules les incertitudes provenant de l'usure uniforme de l'ensemble des aubes sont étudiées. Celles-ci peuvent être modélisées en considérant une variation globale des propriétés du matériau de l'ensemble des aubes d'un étage particulier. L'approche de symétrie cyclique multi-étages peut alors être utilisée car l'hypothèse de secteurs identiques est respectée. La positivité des matrices aléatoires concernées est assurée par l'utilisation d'une loi gamma très adaptée à la physique du problème impliquant le choix des polynômes de Laguerre comme base pour le chaos polynomial. Dans un premier temps des exemples numériques représentatifs de différents types de turbomachines sont introduits dans le but d'évaluer la robustesse de la méthode de symétrie cyclique multi-étages. Ensuite, les résultats de l'analyse modale aléatoire et de la réponse aléatoire obtenus par le chaos polynomial sont validés par comparaison avec des simulations de Monte-Carlo. En plus des résultats classiquement rencontrés pour les fréquences et réponses forcées, les incertitudes considérées mettent en évidence des variations sur les déformées modales qui évoluent entre différentes familles de modes dans les zones de forte densité modale. Ces variations entraînent des modifications sensibles sur la dynamique globale de la structure analysée et doivent être considérées dans le cadre des conceptions robustes. / Recent designs in turbomachinery tend to have more flexible inter-stage rims and to be more lightly damped, resulting in configurations where modes might not be confined to only one stage. In general, multi-stage rotors have no particular axial symmetry property and the computationally costly analysis of the whole structure becomes mandatory. However, a multi-stage cyclic symmetry approach can be used for reducing the cost of modeling rotors composed of several stages even when the stages have different numbers of sectors. This approach takes advantage of the inherent cyclic symmetry of each stage and uses a specific assumption that results in decoupled subproblems for each spatial Fourier harmonic. The methodology proposed in this work allows including uncertainties in the analysis of multi-stage rotors using the multi-stage cyclic symmetry approach and the Polynomial Chaos Expansion. Uncertainties in rotors may arise from in-use wear of blades, temperature changes or manufacturing tolerances. As a first approach, only uncertainties arising from uniform in-use wear of the set of blades are included. These may be modeled by considering a global variation of the material properties of the set of blades of a particular stage. The multi-stage cyclic symmetry approach can then be used since the underlying assumption of identical sectors is respected. The positiveness of the random matrices involved is reached by using gamma-distributed random variables which imply the use of Laguerre's polynomials as basis for the polynomial chaos. Numerical examples representative of various types of turbomachinery are introduced in order to assess the robustness of the method of multi-stage cyclic symmetry. Uncertainties results for the free and forced response analyses obtained by the polynomial chaos are validated by comparison with Monte Carlo simulations. The considered uncertainties induce variations on the mode shapes that evolve between different families of modes in areas of high modal density. These variations result in significant changes in the global dynamics of the structure and must be considered in the context of robust designs.

Computations for the multiple access in wireless networks / Calculs pour les méthodes d'accès multiples dans les réseaux sans fils

Les futures générations de réseaux sans fil posent beaucoup de défis pour la communauté de recherche. Notamment, ces réseaux doivent être en mesure de répondre, avec une certaine qualité de service, aux demandes d'un nombre important de personnes et d'objets connectés. Ce qui se traduit par des exigences assez importantes en termes de capacité. C'est dans ce cadre que les méthodes d'accès multiple non orthogonaux (NOMA) ont été introduit. Dans cette thèse, nous avons étudié et proposé une méthodes d'accès multiple basé sur la technique compute and forawrd et sur les réseaux de point (Lattice codes) tout en considérant différentes constructions de lattice. Nous avons également proposé des amélioration de l'algorithme de décodage de la méthode SCMA (Sparse code multiple access) basé sur les réseaux de points. Afin de simplifier les décodeurs multi-niveaux utilisés, nous avons proposé des expressions simplifiées de LLRs ainsi que des approximations. Finalement, nous avons étudié la construction D des lattices en utilisant les codes polaires. Cette thèse était en collaboration avec le centre de recherche de Huawei France. / Future generations of wireless networks pose many challenges for the research community. In particular, these networks must be able to respond, with a certain quality of service, to the demands of a large number of connected people and objects. This drives us into quite important requirements in terms of capacity. It is within this framework that non-orthogonal multiple access methods (NOMA) have been introduced. In this thesis, we have studied and proposed a multiple access method based on the compute and forward technique and on Lattice codes while considering different lattice constructions. We have also proposed improvements to the algorithm for decoding the Sparse code multiple access (SCMA) method based on Lattice codes. In order to simplify the multi-stage decoders used in here, we have proposed simplified expressions of LLRs as well as approximations. Finally, we studied the construction D of lattices using polar codes. This thesis was in collaboration with the research center of Huawei France.

Simulation numérique de l'écoulement en régime de pompage dans un compresseur axial multi-étage

Dans le contexte économique et environnemental actuel, la prochaine génération de moteurs d'avion devra offrir opérabilité, compacité et hauts rendements. Les compresseurs demeurent une des pièces critiques de ces moteurs, et leur conception un challenge. À débit réduit, leur plage de fonctionnement est contrainte par la limite de pompage, phénomène hautement instable et dangereux. À ce jour, peu d'études expérimentales sur un compresseur en situation de pompage ont été réalisées, étant donné le danger inhérent pour les installations. Dans ce cadre, la simulation numérique peut apporter des informations sur le développement des instabilités aérodynamiques et aider à la prévision de la limite de pompage. L'objectif du travail présenté dans cette thèse est de mettre en place une méthode afin de simuler numériquement l'entrée en pompage et un cycle complet de l'instabilité avec le code elsA. Le cas test retenu est le compresseur de recherche axial multi-étage CREATE dessiné par Snecma, et étudié expérimentalement par le LMFA. Des études antérieures ont montré le rôle joué par les volumes entourant le compresseur ; l'originalité de cette étude réside donc dans l'inclusion des volumes du banc d'essai dans la simulation du compresseur. Une des difficultés inhérentes à la simulation de ces instabilités est leur temps caractéristique, qui représente plus d'une centaine de rotations de la machine. Le calcul a donc nécessité le recours à une approche massivement parallèle ; environ un million d'heures CPU ont été utilisées pour décrire le cycle. Enfin, compte tenu du retournement de l'écoulement dans le compresseur, les conditions aux limites ont été modifiées pour pouvoir s'adapter aux changements de sens de l'écoulement. La simulation a permis de décrire l'entrée en pompage et un cycle complet de l'instabilité. La comparaison avec les données expérimentales montre que les caractéristiques du cycle sont correctement prédites (phénomènes physiques précurseurs de l'instabilité, durée du cycle..). En parallèle, une étude acoustique a été menée afin de mettre en évidence les modes propres du banc d'essai. L'analyse de ces résultats a notamment montré le rôle de l'acoustique dans le déclenchement du pompage. Les différentes phases du cycle de pompage sont ensuite étudiées, et caractérisées (déclenchement, débit inversé, récupération et recompression). Ce travail a généré une base de données qui permet de mieux comprendre les instabilités qui se développent dans ce type de machine. À terme, ces résultats pourront être utilisés pour élaborer et valider des modélisations du phénomène de pompage moins coûteuses, pouvant intervenir dans un cycle de conception.

Methodological investigations on vegetation typology and phytogeography of rain forests of tropical Africa

I. An original methodological discussion is proposed on the problem of the typology of tropical rain forest’s plant communities, based on the study of forest types across gradients of continentality and elevation, within Atlantic central Africa. These investigations were based on the statement that the main problems in forest typology are related to the non-zonal or zonal character of the different vegetation types and to non considering the relations and differences between forest strata. II. Field data consisted in phytosociological homogeneous sample plots localized within different recognized phytogeographical entities, in a region of tropical Africa where these entities are known to be well conserved. A total of 37 such plots were inventoried in the region extending from the littoral forests of Ndoté, Equatorial Guinea, which are wet evergreen forests, to the continental forests of the Dja, Cameroon, known as evergreen seasonal forests. The studied region also included the oriental Atlantic forests of Equatorial Guinea, known as moist evergreen forests or caesalp forests. In various parts of this continentality gradient, some plots were localized within climax non-zonal formations, namely the submontane rain forests. The emphasis was put on the vegetation of the Monte Alén National Park. The sampling methodology was willing to be as "complete ", including all strata, "quantitative ", enumerating all individuals, and "representative ", within each stratum, as possible. These multi-layers plots were realised using nested sub-plots, with a sampling size of 100 individuals for every ligneous stratum recognized (dominant trees, dominated trees and shrubs) and a sampling size of 200m² for the herbaceous and suffrutex stratum. Forest types were defined independently for each stratum and the differences were analysed. A method was proposed for the simultaneous analysis of all floristic data, converting and standardizing the values from ligneous strata, on the one hand, and from understorey strata, on the other hand. III. Ten forest types were described using IndVal and discussed in the general context of the guineo-congolian region, from a syntaxonomic view point (agglomerative classification) and from a phytogeographical view point (divisive classification). Homologies between these two approaches are described. The proposed phytogeographical system is based on an "open " conception of hierarchical classifications, combining advantages of agglomerative and divisive classifications. In concrete terms, the non-zonal criteria, for example the submontane variants, are categorised separately and in analogy with the zonal criteria, related to the usual phytochoria. Analysis of ecological relationships for the 10 communities showed that the main variables related to the floristic variability in our mainland rain forests are elevation, rainfall, hygrometry (estimated using bryophytes cover levels) and distance to the ocean. The two extremes on the vertical microclimatic gradient, dominant trees stratum and herbaceous stratum, give similar typologies, however canonical analysis showed that for the herbaceous layer, non-zonal variables (hygrometry and elevation) were gaining more importance when the influence of the two zonal variables was attenuated. In every case, spatial autocorrelation was less important than the environment in explaining floristic variability but its role increased in the spatial arrangement of understorey species, whose dispersal capacity is generally lower than canopy trees. The phytosociological, phytogeographical and ecological description of forest types is accompanied by a physiognomical description using biological types spectrum, as well as architectural models, leaf sizes, etc. With regard to diversity, we have demonstrated that species richness was higher from upper to lower strata because of the accumulation in lower strata of species from various strata. On the other hand, the proper stratum diversity, i.e. the structural set, decreased from dominant trees to shrubs. The proper diversity of the herb layer showed relatively high figures mainly due to the higher individual density in relation to the existence of microstrata. Within the 37 sample plots, 1,050 taxa have been identified to species or morpho-species levels, for a total of 25,750 individuals. These taxa represent 442 genus among 104 families. The richest forest type is found on the foothills of the Niefang range, on the windward side. This forest type is also characterised by a high number of oligotypic genus and by species belonging to functional types indicators of glacial refuges. These functional types are defined on the basis of the dispersal capacity and on kind of stand needed for effective germination. We formulated the hypothesis that this kind of "foothills refuge ", characterised by his zonal nature, could have been one of the rare refuges for species from mainland rain forests, while montane and fluvial refuges would mainly have preserved species from non-zonal forest types: (sub)montane and riverine. Based on indicator species of submontane forests, a potential distribution map of this forest type has been realised at the Atlantic central African scale. More than 400 submontane forest localities have been mapped. These forests begin at 400m of altitude near the ocean, and progressively at higher altitude for increasing distance to the ocean. Many lowland localities also comprised submontane species, which could indicate the existence of ecological transgressions. These transgressions would allow migratory tracks for submontane species between isolated mountain ranges, not only during glacial periods, through heights at the northern and southern borders of the congo basin, but also contemporarily through the lowland riverine forest network, in the centre of this basin. Finally, a special attention has been attributed to littoral forests and to some cases of choroecological transgressions, coupled to the ecological equalization phenomenon.
