I mitt examensarbete har jag undersökt om avdragsgill läxhjälp riskerar att utmana utbildningssystemets likvärdighet utifrån ett utbildningssociologiskt perspektiv. Detta för att på så sätt närma mig ett svar på vad förslaget om ett utökat Rut-avdrag för inhyrandet av läxhjälp från läxhjälpsföretag kan innebära. Jag har även undersökt hur läxan diskuteras och debatteras i den politiska debatten såväl som i media. Jag har genomfört en kvalitativ undersökning där fyra pedagoger har fått svara på intervjufrågor som rör deras syn på läxor, och hur de ser på de läxhjälpsföretag som finns att hyra. Läxans bakgrund, den aktuella debatten och den forskning som rör läxor visar på att det finns många olika åsikter kring ämnet. Både när det gäller definitionen av läxan och vem som gynnas av den samma. Motståndare och anhängare lyfter fram flertalet argument som rör ett avvecklande eller ett utökande av Rut-avdraget gällande läxhjälp. I min slutsats har jag kommit fram till att de som gynnas av ett utökat Rut-avdrag förefaller vara de som har det gott ställt ekonomiskt.

This study evaluated the performance of state-of-the-practice automated rut measurement systems (ARMS) for measuring rutting in the field at highway speeds under Texas conditions. A total of twenty-four 550-ft survey sections were selected with the objective of establishing representative conditions encountered on Texas highways as well as cases considered potentially problematic for automated rutting surveys. Five different ARMS measured the twenty-four sections at highways speeds and reported their best estimates of the transverse profiles coordinates at 552 stations and the Maximum Rut Depth (MRD) values for each wheel-path at 2,664 stations. These measurements were compared with the manual measurements taken statically at the same locations. The reference transverse profiles were manually measured using a laser distance meter and a leveled beam and the reference MRD values were manually measured using a 6ft straight-edge and a gage graduated to 16ths of an inch. In addition, the effect of different experimental variables on each system’s measurement errors was analyzed aiming to detect which pavement characteristics are more challenging for the ARMS. / text

The roads in our society are in a state of constant degradation. The reasons for this are many, and therefore constructed to have a certain lifetime before being reconstructed. To minimize the cost of maintaining the important transport road network high quality prediction models are needed. This report presents new models for flexible pavement structures for initiation and propagation of fatigue cracks in the bound layers and rutting for the whole structure. The models are based on observations from the Swedish Long Term Pavement Performance (LTPP) database. The intention is to use them for planning maintenance as part of a pavement management system (PMS). A statistical approach is used for the modeling, where both cracking and rutting are related to traffic data, climate conditions, and the subgrade characteristics as well as the pavement structure. / <p>QC 20130325</p>

The main objective of this thesis was to evaluate various fertility indicators of dairy cows of Holstein cattle bred in modern farming techniques on the farm Rolnička Lipanovice and contribute to the clarification of interdependence of the factors, which influence fertility results. 288 inseminated breeding cows were included in to the reference group, in which it was possible to significantly demonstrate data collected by own observation or from the farm owner and inseminators. These data were collected since 1. 7. 2009 to 30. 6. 2010 and revealing information about rut course and intensity of observed breeding cows. The results that were concluded from recorded and processed data characterize the influence of various factors on fertility.

The role of territoriality was investigated using 25 impala rams in a site in South Africa. Field data were used to determine known rams as territorial and bachelors, as well as aspirant and indeterminate. The mean territorial tenure was 67.25 days, with a mean territory size of 21.0 ± 11.27 ha, compared to the home ranges of 34.1 ha ± 9.03 ha for territorial and 58.8 ha ± 33.35 ha for bachelor males. Territory boundaries seemed to remain constant through the season, and are smaller when bordering important features such as water holes, which appear to be neutral in terms of territoriality. Mating was observed on three separate dates between 16 May - 4 June 2001, three times by territorial males, the exception being an aspirant ram. The most important diurnal behaviour was feeding, followed by watching, walking, ruminating, resting and licking salt. It was found that bachelors browse more than territorial males, and all males browse and lick salt more in the non-rut. All rams were also more vigilant after lions were released. Only bachelors spar and allogroom, and they also orally groom themselves more than territorial males. Territorial males chase and roar more, and perform longer object aggression acts during the non-rut than bachelors. Rho se fixe aux transcrits naissants au niveau d’un site Rut (Rhoutilization) libre à partir duquel il transloque le long de l’ARN (5’→3’) de façon ATP-dépendante pour rattraper le complexe d’élongation de la transcription et induire la dissociation de celui-ci. Il est généralement admis que les sites de fixation de Rho présentent une richesse en Cytosines et une pauvreté en Guanines, ainsi qu’une relative pauvreté en structures secondaires. Les études génomiques ou transcriptomiques n’ont pas dégagé d’éléments consensus ou de règles permettant de prédire les sites de terminaison Rho-dépendants. En combinant approches biochimiques et bioinformatiques, j’ai tenté de comprendre les mécanismes par lesquels Rho reconnait les transcrits.J’ai identifié un ensemble de déterminants de séquence qui, pris ensemble, possèdent un bon pouvoir prédictif et que j’ai utilisé pour construire le premier modèle computationnel capable de prédire la terminaison Rho-dépendante à l’échelle des génomes d’E. coli et Salmonella. J’ai caractérisé in vitro certains de ces terminateurs, en particulier dans les régions 5’UTR, avec l’espoir qu’ils soient impliqués dans des mécanismes de régulation conditionnelle. J’ai identifié des candidats dont l’activité pourrait être sous le contrôle de facteurs comme des petits ARN non codants (sRNA) ou latempérature. J’ai également développé une méthode fluorogénique pour détecter facilement la terminaison Rho-dépendante in vitro et ai commencé à adapter l’approche CLIP-seq à l’étude du transcriptome Rho-dépendant chez Salmonella. Collectivement, mes travaux offrent de nouveaux outils d’analyse et de prédiction de la terminaison Rho-dépendante, une meilleure cartographie des sites d’action de Rho chez E. coli et Salmonella, ainsi que de nouvelles pistes d’étude du rôle de Rhodans l’expression conditionnelle du génome. / Transcripts at a free Rut (Rho-utilization) site from which Rho moves along the RNA in an ATP dependentfashion to catch up with and dissociate the transcription elongation complex. It is generally believed that the Rut sites are, respectively, rich and poor in Cytosines and Guanines as well as relatively poor in secondary structures. Studies at the genomic or transcriptomic scale have notrevealed any stronger consensus features or rules for predicting potential Rho-dependent termination sites. By combining biochemical and bioinformatics approaches, I have explored the mechanisms by which Rho recognizes transcripts to induce transcription termination. I have identified a complex set of sequence determinants which, taken together, have good predictive power and which I used to build the first computational model able to predict Rho-dependent termination at the scale of Escherichiacoli and Salmonella genomes. I have characterized in vitro some of these terminators, particularly in 5'UTRs, with the hope that they will be involved in conditional regulatory mechanisms. I have identified several candidates whose activity may be under the control of factors such as small non-coding RNAs(sRNA) or temperature. I have also developed a fluorogenic method to easily detect Rho-dependent termination in vitro and have begun to adapt the CLIP-seq approach to the study of the Rhodependent transcriptome in Salmonella. Collectively, my work offers new tools for the analysis and prediction of Rho-dependent termination, a better mapping of the sites of probable Rho action in E.coli and Salmonella, as well as several lines of investigation of the role of Rho in the conditional expression of bacterial genomes.
