Fodale Vargas, Luis Ernesto 06 February 2017 (has links)
The following work explores the development of the freudian concept “projection” in the framework of the mutual collaboration between Sigmund Freud and Carl Jung. This research is framed in the line of historical-conceptual research and unconscious determinants in the concept’s development. We intend to explain, the theoretical and methodological differences between Freud and Jung from the beginning that make sense on the mutual collaboration in the development of that concept. With this purpose, we reviewed critically the correspondence between both authors, as well as each one’s works referred to the concept / Tesis

Understanding the Present: The Representation of Contemporary History in Ludwig Börne, Heinrich Heine, and Georg Büchner

Swellander, Michael January 2019 (has links)
Understanding the Present examines the thematization of the historical present in nineteenth-century German literary texts. In theorizations of political literature, such as Jean-Paul Sartre’s writings on “committed literature,” an emphatic concept of the present is a given. Of course, the present is a notoriously elusive temporality. The texts discussed in this dissertation, rather than focusing on accurate sociological representations of the present or an intensive rhetorical engagement in its political discourse, interrogate how the present can be evoked in literature in the first place. Understanding the Present discusses the forms privileged by certain authors in the representation of the present – prose, periodicals, drama – as well as the paradoxes such approaches posed. Rather than discussing these texts in terms of “operative literature” or “committed literature,” which has been a trend in scholarship since the 1960s, this dissertation approaches the nineteenth century from the perspective of so-called Gegenwartsliteratur. It does not claim the successful or unsuccessful political intervention of these texts, but rather shows how their authors imagined a literary intervention in the political present could occur at all. Chapter one shows Ludwig Börne’s popular magazine Die Wage: Eine Zeitschrift für Bürgerleben, Wissenschaft und Kunst, not only as surreptitiously carrying barbs against state-sanctioned censorship, as is most common in studies of the periodical, but as following a program of political historiography. Börne’s text is therefore subversive at a structural level and presents a poetics of representing the present. Chapter two shows how Heinrich Heine used the republication of his political journalism to reflect on the essential dynamic of understanding the present whereby one can only comprehend contemporary events with reference to the past and future. Georg Büchner’s drama, Dantons Tod, the subject of chapter three, presents a paradox similar to Heine’s, but through a little observed aspect of his citational practice, which I call “internal citation.” By showing his characters wittingly and unwittingly quoting each other in the play and repeating certain gestures, Büchner draws out ambiguities of authorship in political discourse and raises important questions about the experience of the present. Together, these three texts contribute to the study of political literature by interrogating the central notion of the emphatic present in it.

The main objective is to expose, from a particular reading of the initial period of Freud's work, how did the field, in which sits a definition of the psyche established, accordingly to incipient psychoanalysis. The conditions responsible for reconsiderations of important notions will be highlighted, as will the particular treatment method that would be developed during the work. It will be deepened the internal discussion about what we might call the birth of psychoanalysis, and the uniqueness that is often attributed to its main concepts. This proposition is supported on the exhibition of the motion of particular articulation that Freud engenders in the theme of the psyche, from 1886 to 1894, in which the subject does not appear so well defined as it would in later texts, but in whose articulation of issues stood out the possibility of a 'psychic functioning mode' for neurosis. With this objective, it was outlined the transition of the explanatory mode that favors a predominantly physiological automatic characteristic to which it gradually added a functional modification of psychic dynamics, but without neglecting the former. This would be the case of logic established by the psychic mechanism of "counter-will" (1892) that would have contributed exactly by the shift that it provided to the focus of treatment, which subsequently developed into a 'relationship of symbolization' by 'conflict'. The reformulation of the functional aspect of hysteria, from this point of view, brought the number of constructions that would provide support to the basis notions for later concepts of resistance, transference and the development of free association. It is concluded that this particular and resilient operation, obtained in the gaps from the issues of healing and symptoms elimination, would have given authenticity to Freud's theory and specificity to his psychoanalysis, through constant transformation that Freud never stopped to promote to existing concepts in the field of medical research in which he attended / Doutorado / Filosofia / Doutora em Filosofia

Verdade e técnica em psicanálise

Triska, Vitor Hugo Couto January 2010 (has links)

A Man of His Time: Tom Watson's New South Bigotry

Cantrell, Corey J. 10 May 2014 (has links)
Georgia statesman Thomas E. Watson is best known as a Vice-Presidential and Presidential candidate for the People’s Party, the progressive third party movement of the 1890s and 1900s. As a Populist candidate, Watson advocated a racially progressive platform in order to appeal to African American voters. But following a series of electoral defeats and the collapse of the Populist Party, Watson retreated from politics and began a career as the publisher of his own weekly and monthly periodicals. As a publisher, Watson utilized his editorial space to express bigoted attitudes towards African Americans, Catholics, and Jews, that greatly contrasted with views he espoused as a Populist. But Watson’s rhetorical shifts occurred during the industrialization, urbanization, and immigration of the South. These radical transformations inspired fear and anxiety for thousands of rural white southerners. Within this context, Watson, as the proprietor of a profit-driven enterprise, offered opinions about the era’s numerous social, political, and economic upheavals that his readership appreciated. Throughout his career, Watson’s rhetoric shifted with the ebb and flow of contextual variation and in this period of intense economic, social, and political change, the context was favorable for the bigoted opinions that he expressed.

The modern self in the labyrinth : a study of entrapment in the works of Weber, Freud, and Foucault

Chowers, Eyal January 1995 (has links)
In the works of Weber, Freud, and Foucault we find a distinct depiction of the relation between the self and modern civilization. This thesis describes that relation as "entrapment": the self has become mired in the life orders of modernity and is unable to reign over them. The primary hazard of these orders is their imposition of subjectivities that are highly circumscribed, subjectivities more responsive to external functions and imperatives than to the expression of individuality. Underlying this outlook is a new consciousness of time; in lieu of evolutionary and progressive theories of history, a tragic view emerges. History is seen as devoid of any deterministic necessity, yet its collective products have become too weighty and entrenched to allow for radical, over-arching political transformations. The thesis examines how, beginning with these shared presuppositions, Weber, Freud, and Foucault develop very different understandings of entrapment, understandings that pose fundamental challenges to one another.
