'n Funksionele model vir kulturelekonteksaanpassing in literêre vertaling

Ferreira, Stefanus Cornelius 10 September 2012 (has links)

Robert Owen and the Soviet kolkhozy

Rawson, Mary Elizabeth January 1952 (has links)
The writer has drawn a parallel between the co-operative agricultural communities proposed by Robert Owen in England during the nineteenth century and the "kolkhozy" or collective farms of Soviet Russia. Both the co-operative communities and the collective farms were offered as solutions to the problems of unemployment, food scarcity, and general dislocation following war and the beginning of industrialization. Both solutions were based on the development of large-scale, scientific, co-operative agriculture. An examination of the measures employed in these solutions - for example, the allotment of land, the organization and payment of labour, the roles of government and education - illustrate further the parallel between Owen's "Home Colonies" and the Soviet kolkhozy. This similarity may exist for a number of reasons, but it is the writer's opinion that Robert Owen's proposals for co-operative agricultural communities had an influence on the shaping of the Soviet collective farm system. / Arts, Faculty of / Central Eastern Northern European Studies, Department of / Graduate

Fray Mocho and lunfardo

Aaron, Gerald Tingey January 1968 (has links)
The purposes of this thesis are to present a study of Jose S. Alvarez, known as Fray Mocho, and his works with particular attention paid to Memorias de un vigilante; to make a study of lunfardo, the slang of Buenos Aires - its origin, its nature, and its influence on language and literature; and to show the important place of Fray Mocho in the history of lunfardo. To accomplish these purposes, in Chapter I, I have undertaken to present a brief sketch of the life of Fray Mocho. Then I attempt to make a brief introduction to his literary work and place it into the literary history of Argentina. Chapter II contains first a discussion of the nature of and importance of Memorias de un vigilante and then a linguistic study, with definitions and etymologies, of the lunfardo vocabulary Fray Mocho gives in "Mundo lunfardo". This is a link with Chapter III which is a study of lunfardo and its historical and sociological background as well as a discussion of the sources of its vocabulary, and the nature of the language. This study of lunfardo closes with a discussion of the influence of lunfardo has had on literature and the spoken language. The conclusion is an attempt to bring together Fray Mocho and lunfardo and show his important place in the history of slang. / Arts, Faculty of / French, Hispanic, and Italian Studies, Department of / Graduate

A aurora do socialismo : fourierismo e o falansterio do Sai (1839-1850)

Deste ensaio teria brotado, no Rio de Janeiro, um movimento fourierista brasileiro, ainda que de pouco alcance / Abstract: In nineteenth-century France, a current of ideas and a social movement bearing new features were bom. Social theorists, such as Saint-Simon, Charles Fourier and Etienne Cabet, introduced as matter for reflection social problems, brought to evidence by a social movement, which contested the economic and polítical model founded in the industrial system. The rising of concern with the outcasts, unemployment, oppression on women and children, labor exploitation, but also with the proposal of solutions for these problems were the contributions legated by these social theorists, that in the other hand, returned to society, establishing a strong brand on the early labor movement. The idea of world transformation through the establishment of phalansteries, according to the principles of Charles Fourier, gained a part of the labor movement, and, shortly afier, French workers emigrated to the Americas, with the aim of creating societarian colonies. The subject of this thesis is the Fourierist movement in France and the foundation in 1840 of a phalanstery at Saí (Province of Santa Catarina, southern Brazil), as the first experiment of Fourier's ideas out of continental Europe. Out of this essay rose, at Rio de Janeiro, a Brazilian Fourierist movement, that nevertheless attained a limited influence / Doutorado / Doutor em História

Robert Owen : fabrica, escola e autogestão administrativa

É a chamada "Pedagogia do Trabalho". / Abstract: Not informed. / Mestrado / Administração e Supervisão Educacional / Mestre em Educação

Reubke's The 94th Psalm: Synthesis of Conservative and Progressive Styles, a Lecture Recital, together with Three Recitals of Selected Works of J.S. Bach, C. Franck, A. Heiller, M. Reger, L. Sowerby, M. Widor and Others

Lee, Choonhae Kim 12 1900 (has links)
This dissertation is a study of the styles shown in Reubke's The 94th Psalm. As a student of Hermann Bonicke, Theodor Kullak, and Adolf Marx, Reubke was trained in the masters of the Baroque and Classical traditions. Written after his study with Franz Liszt in the newer style, The 94th Psalm is a crystallization of these various influences into his own personal style, a remarkable achievement at age twenty three. It is a synthesis of two different styles of organ music at the time; the traditional and conservative represented by Mendelssohn and Schumann, and the progressive by Liszt. Reubke's unique approach to the sonata fomi in the "double function" unified three individual movements into one musical entity by the use of the cyclic theme. The harmony and the tonality are advanced and anticipate the late nineteenth-century style. As the first programmatic organ music in the nineteenth century, The 94th Psalm is an idiomatic organ work which employed the virtuoso piano technique of the time. In spite of Reubke's young age, The 94th Psalm demonstrates his great maturity. His wish to express himself is realized in the work in profound depth and imagination. Through the psalm text he poured out his mind and soul with tremendous energy. In addition to the prevailing concept of the dominant influence of Liszt on the work, the study discusses in detail other aspects which are equally significant to The 94th Psalm, particularly the classical organ tradition of the time and Adolf Marx's influence. After the introduction in Chapter I, Chapter II describes Reubke's family, his life including musical training and his works. Chapter II discusses the influences on The 94th Psalm; organ composition of the mid-nineteenth-century Germany, the influential teachers and their works. Chapter IV presents an analysis of the work, the programmatic feature, the characteristic harmony, and the cyclic use of the theme. Chapter V deals with the performance of The 94th Psalm: the characteristics of the mid-nineteenth-century organ in Germany, the registration, dynamic and expression marks, and published editions. The final Chapter VI is a conclusion.

Warren Stone Snow, A Man in Between: The Biography of a Mormon Defender

Peterson, John A. 01 January 1985 (has links) (PDF)
Warren Stone Snow was an early convert to the LDS church who during the Church's first four decades was often involved in defensive roles as Mormonism encountered various conflicts on the American frontier. While he protected the lives of Joseph Smith and Brigham Young and defended Illinois Saints from houseburning mobs and took a leading role in the Battle of Nauvoo, his greatest defensive contributions took place after the Mormons settled in Utah. As commander of the Sanpete Military District, he was one of the leading figures in Mormon defensive efforts during the Utah War in 1857 and later as brigadier general in the Nauvoo Legion he was the single most important Mormon military leader during Utah's longest and most intense Indian War, the Black Hawk War of 1865-1867. This thesis is a biography of Snow's life during his protecting years and examines his background and character as well as his motivations and defensive activities.
