C. Chao (1888-1979), a renowned Chinese theologian, and Bliss Wiant (1895-1975), an American missionary and musicologist. The contextualization of Chinese Christian hymns has become an important area of study, but relatively little attention has been paid to the concrete interpretation of translations and hymns produced in a particular time by Chinese Christians and missionary collaborators. In this case study, the focus is on two hymnals produced by Chao and Wiant, Christian Fellowship Hymns and Hymns for the People, published in the early 1930s, with brief comparisons with other hymnals from the early decades of the twentieth century. / Chapter one surveys the contextualization of Chinese hymns made by Western protestant missionaries in the nineteenth century, followed by an exploration on the contextualization of Chinese hymnology by Chinese Christians themselves, especially in the late 1920s and early 1930s. The subject of Chapter two is the origin and writing of Christian Fellowship Hymns, focusing on T. C. Chao’s contextualized translations and his implicit and explicit interaction and dialogue with traditional cultural values and the contemporary social scene. In Chapter three we consider the second hymnal, Hymns for the People, which contains hymns written by Chao and set to Chinese music by Wiant. Here we consider Chao’s principles for hymn writing, and see how his hymns reflect his early theological thinking. In Chapter four, attention shifts to Bliss Wiant and the music in Hymns for the People. The Chinese tunes Wiant selected for this hymnal are analyzed to see how they were part of the contextualization process. Here, we employ post-colonial criticism to develop the beginnings of a new interpretative framework that can be applied to the process of the contextualization of Chinese hymnology. / Our final Chapter five compares the two Chao/Wiant hymnals with Hymns of Universal Praise, a joint effort by six denominations, which may be seen as the highpoint of the contextualization of Chinese hymnology in the fourth decade of the 20th century. These two hymnals are further compared with the hymnals of two independent/indigenous traditions: the Little Flock and the Jesus Family. Finally, we use the theory of "Glocalization" to further develop the study of Chinese hymnody in the 1920s and 1930s, emphasizing the mutually interactive process between the global and the local in contextualized Chinese Christian hymns. / Contextualized music is, theologically, an expression of the Incarnation, the Word become flesh, the flesh become song. This is evident in our study of the hymnals of T. C. Chao and Bliss Wiant. Their creative collaboration on contextualized Chinese hymns, the words and the music, has made a lasting and in some ways unique contribution to Chinese hymnody. It is important both for the study of the history of Christianity and the future of the Chinese Church. Aquesta investigació té com objectiu l’estudi de l’obra escultòrica de Josep Granyer i Giralt (1899-1983). S'han realitzat alguns estudis breus, perfils biogràfics i catàlegs d'exposicions sobre l’artista barceloní al llarg d'aquests darrers anys. Tot i així, no tenia encara cap anàlisi, monografia ni catalogació rigorosa i en profunditat de la seva obra escultòrica. Aquesta tesi és un primer pas per recuperar, reconstruir i divulgar la figura de Josep Granyer i la seva obra escultòrica. La producció de Granyer és una obra complexa, extensa i variada, que per la seva magnitud calia acotar i limitar. Així, hem decidit d'excloure de la catalogació l'obra que té com il•lustrador, dibuixant i gravador i abordar una aproximació de Granyer, a partir del fil conductor de la seva obra escultòrica. Hem treballat en dues línies: refer la trajectòria artística i vital de l'artista barceloní i fer el catàleg raonat de l'obra escultòrica. En aquest sentit, ens ha permès revisar i transitar per un període de la nostra història de l'art català del segle XX i recuperar un espai dins la historiografia en un aspecte com és el de l'escultura. La tesi està dividida en tres blocs. La trajectòria vital, l'obra de Josep Granyer i el catàleg raonat que conforma la tercera part de l'estudi. Hem adjuntat un apèndix amb una selecció del seu diari il•lustrat, una eina peculiar que ens ha permès reconstruir i accedir a aspectes i consideracions d'un període concret del seu camí artístic i personal. El primer objectiu ha sigut la creació d'un catàleg amb un inventari de més de tres-centes peces escultòriques. El recorregut per tot aquest conjunt d'obres, no només ens ha mostrat l'evolució artística del seu creador, sinó que també ens ha proporcionat una visió global de la dimensió de la producció i una base per construir la monografia. Aquest estudi té com propòsit omplir un buit historiogràfic dins l'estudi general de l'escultura catalana. Una de les aportació és la d´intentar obrir i donar a conèixer el ventall de l'obra escultòrica i la biografia de Josep Granyer fins ara fragmentària. Aquesta recerca és un apropament des de l'òptica d'una historiadora però també d'una escultora. / This investigation has the aim of studying the sculptural work from Josep Granyer Giralt (1899-1983). We’ve worked in two lines: remake the artistic and vital trajectory of the artist from Barcelona and to make the reasonable catalogue from the sculptural work. In this sense, the investigation allowed us to go through and to go along a period from our history (from the Catalan art from XX century) and to recuperate a space in the historiography in an aspect as the one of the sculpture. The thesis is divided in three blocks: The vital trajectory from Josep Granyer, the artist work and the reasonable catalogue which adjusts the third part of the study. The first objective has been the creation of a catalogue with an inventory from more than three hundred sculpture pieces. The path for all this group of works, has not only showed us the artistic evolution from his creator, but has also proportioned a global vision of the production’s dimension and a base to build the monograph. Josep Granyer follows a singular and suggesting way, with a trajectory that is oft irregular without a continue evolution which goes along for diverging territories. We noted here another of his contributions of the artist from Barcelona, his facet as illustrator, engraver and drawer, which he assemblages with the sculpture. This study has the proposal to full a historiographical empty space in the general study of the Catalan sculpture. One of its contributions is to try to open and to give to know the range of the sculptural work and the biography of Josep Granyer fragmentary until now. This research is an approach from the optical of a historian who is also a sculptress.

La obra de Giorgio de Chirico (1888-1978) abarca todo el siglo XX, su pintura retrata el periodo artístico que inician las vanguardias en París, continua el surrealismo, y cierra el pop-art de Andy Warhol. Esta investigación propone un recorrido arquitectónico por su imaginario metafísico, un lugar donde se reúnen enigmas modernos con mitos clásicos, chimeneas y fábricas con pórticos y ágoras, para poner de manifiesto la naturaleza de un futuro igual al pasado. Sus maniquís y autómatas escenifican el eterno retorno de Nietzsche en medio de plazas urbanas o inmersos en profundas habitaciones, desde donde alertan al espectador sobre el carácter permanente de la arquitectura y la ciudad, descifrando sus símbolos descubriremos el espíritu del mañana y la clase de vida que proyectamos para nuestros hijos y descendientes.
