This experience show us that the Society was constituting itself as a way of betterment of life for the workmen, having the health, education and the access to loans and judiciary assistance as their point of support. The study chronological landmarks are delimited between the creation of Charity Society in 1891 and the 1930’s, when start to be felt the effects of the Eloy Chaves Law, promulgated in 1923, that created the Account of Retirements and Pensions, inaugurating the social security promoted by the State in Brazil. / O objetivo dessa pesquisa é analisar a experiência de formação, reestruturação e desenvolvimento da Sociedade Beneficente do Pessoal da Estrada de Ferro de Baturité, dando destaque para a ação dos trabalhadores ferroviários na composição dos benefícios oferecidos pela mutual. Essa experiência revela que a Sociedade foi-se constituindo como um caminho de melhoria de vida para os trabalhadores, tendo a saúde, a instrução e o acesso a empréstimos e a assistência judiciária seus pontos de apoio. Os marcos cronológicos do estudo são balizados entre a criação da Sociedade Beneficente em 1891 e os anos 1930, quando começam a ser sentidos os efeitos da Lei Eloy Chaves, promulgada em 1923, que criou as Caixas de Aposentadorias e Pensões, inaugurando a previdência social promovida pelo Estado no Brasil.

Based upon historical dialectic materialism, the paper followed a set of theoretical-bibliographic procedures of a classist character, adopting as its major reference, the production of Antonio Gramsci, a true militant theorist of proletarian cause, specifically his pre-prison work; and political writings, in general. In this way, we seek to historically retrieve the genesis and evolution of Antonio Gramsci’s thought, consolidated in his short life trajectory, highlighting elements linked to his family origin, as his theoretical-practical militancy, marked by a deep immersion in the political and social class struggles in Italy, in particular, his involvement with the problematics of the factories councils and the school of labor. Generally speaking, in the analysis of the context of the Southern Issue in Italy, expressed in political-geographical division, we feature the revolutionary conceptions of Gramsci, in function of subalternity. Attempting to understand the labour movement, we situate the French experience in the 19th century from the reference point of the 18 Brumaire of Louis Bonaparte, of Karl Marx, reporting the peasants struggles. Further on, from the Marxian ontology frame of reference, and understanding education as a complex founded by work, we focus upon the united front and its complexities, tracing the role of education and/or human formation for the constitution of a worker-peasant Alliance in the context of the Italian situation of the early 20th century, showing the character at the same time particular and universal of Gramscian contributions. / O presente trabalho dissertativo tem por objetivo investigar as categorias presentes na obra do revolucionário italiano, Antonio Gramsci, acerca da frente única e sua formação educacional na perspectiva da revolução; revisitando, ainda, as contribuições de teóricos e estudiosos do pensamento de Gramsci sobre a aliança operário-camponesa diante da revolução proletária como, por exemplo, Del Roio (2005) e Nosella (1992). Tendo por base teórica o materialismo histórico dialético, realizou-se um trabalho a partir de procedimentos teórico-bibliográficos de caráter classista, adotando como revisão principal, a produção de Antonio Gramsci, especificamente nas obras pré-carcerária e nos escritos políticos, que se constitui, rigorosamente, um teórico-militante da causa operária. Deste modo, buscamos fazer um resgate histórico da gênese e processualidade do pensamento de Antônio Gramsci, consolidadas em sua curta trajetória de vida, recuperando elementos vinculados à sua origem familiar, como a sua militância teórico-prática, marcada pela profunda imersão na luta política e social na Itália, em especial, seu envolvimento com a problemática dos conselhos de fábricas e da escola do trabalho. Em linhas gerais, na análise do contexto da Questão Meridional, expressada na divisão político-geográfica, destacamos as concepções revolucionárias de Gramsci, na função dos grupos subalternos. Na compreensão do movimento operário, situamos a experiência francesa no século XIX a partir de O 18 Brumário de Luís Bonaparte de Karl Marx, relatando a luta dos camponeses. Posteriormente, partindo da ontologia marxiana e entendendo a educação como um complexo fundado pelo trabalho, dissertamos sobre a frente única e suas complexidades, traçando o papel da educação e/ou formação humana para a constituição de uma aliança operário-camponesa diante da conjuntura italiana do início do século XX, mostrando o caráter ao mesmo tempo histórico/particular e universal das contribuições gramscianas

This dissertation examines the problem of women, marriage, and sexuality in Melville's work. The general absence of female characters in his stories, his frequent depiction of horrific marriages, and his seeming reticence about sexuality have all contributed to the long-standing critical view that his writing reveals a deep-seated hatred and fear of women. In disputing these critical commonplaces, the study argues that Melville always reinforces the importance of the sexual element in human relations. His ideas about women, marriage, and sexuality are informed by his perception of a disturbing tension between men and women in his society, and he makes the paradoxes of his culture concerning gender relations central to his work. The dissertation is organized thematically to isolate and explore the primary manifestations of sexualized human relations in Melville's work: desire, frustration, marriage, transgression, and homoeroticism. Close readings of specific stories, poems, and sections of novels suggest new interpretative trajectories based primarily on considerations of how culture influences gender and sexual meaning. The introduction surveys the tradition of Melville scholarship on the problem of women and sexuality. The sources of the prevailing negative impression concerning his attitudes are traced largely to the demands of the theoretical approaches which have dominated discussion of the sexual issues in Melville's writing. Evidence from Melville's marginalia is then offered to establish the ground for a more balanced view of his perceptions. The second chapter asserts that, for Melville, much of the difficulty of human experience can be attributed to sexual desire. Within his work he probes the psychological nature of these desires, and he interrogates the cultural codes by which desire is regulated. The next chapter, on the marriage theme, locates Melville within the nineteenth century turmoil in marriage ideologies, while chapter four is an analysis of the sexual transgression motif. The violation of cultural rules through which sexual pleasure is licensed and controlled is used metaphorically by Melville to represent the individual quest for personal or artistic freedom. The final chapter describes Melville's consistent use of figurative language associated with negative homoeroticism to dramatize disproportionate power relations between men.

Tesis para optar al grado de Magíster en Historia / El presente trabajo de investigación pretende analizar las representaciones y las prácticas policiales sobre la cuestión criminal durante el periodo de 1890 y 1924. Dicho contexto, como encuadre ideológico, significó la policialización de la seguridad pública al monopolizar la policía el mantenimiento del orden hegemónico. Pensada como una misión policial, la lucha contra el delito implicó un saber práctico sobre la urgencia de lo social, el que involucró un discurso sobre el delincuente, la construcción de un “deber ser” policial y la implementación de tecnológicas de identificación de personas. De esta forma, la policía ejerce directamente el poder ordenador-coercitivo en el espacio social en nombre del Estado, al formular y difundir una eficiente narrativa sobre la inseguridad, convirtiendo al sujeto peligroso en un reducto cognoscitivo policial.

The influence of existing musical trends is evident in almost every composer. Prokofiev entered the musical scene in Russia when Scriabin was the recognized leader in innovation. To understand fully the rapid popularity of Prokofiev one must be aware of the musical forces of his time, the circumstances leading up to them and their influence on Prokofiev. In the latter half of the nineteenth century there began a movement toward nationalism in music. Among the most important of these nationalistic countries were Bohemia and Russia. Composers deliberately drew their inspiration from the musical resources of their native country. From all that is known a native Russian music did not exist before the nineteenth century. The music enjoyed by the upper class and royalty had to be imported. In the eighteenth century this included Italian opera and in the beginning of the nineteenth century, French opera. Pianists such as Field, Mayer and von Henselt were popular as both teachers and performers.
