Artistas mulheres na ditadura brasileira: os casos de Wanda Pimentel e Teresinha Soares / Women artists under the Brazilian dictatorship: the cases of Wanda Pimentel and Teresinha SoaresPatricia Branco Cornish 26 June 2018 (has links)
This study investigates the artistic productions of Wanda Pimentel and Teresinha Soares in the mid - 1960s and early 1970s, with the objective of analysing the issue of gender and the construction of female subjectivity. The research seeks to analyse the aesthetic relations of the works of Pimentel and Soares in light of the influences of feminist theories that migrated from the United States to Brazil in the late 1960s. This highlights the theoretical relations between gender issues and the artistic practices of the Brazilian vanguard. In addition, this research looks at the circulation of the works of Pimentel and Soares given that both were part of the Brazilian art circuit in collective exhibitions and biennials in this period. This context of the circulation of art allows a critical view of the return of the work of these artists to international exhibitions in the last three years; a return driven by the revisionist policies of museums on issues of gender and artistic production in countries outside the canonical cultural centres. The study expands the academic knowledge about artistic productions made by women in the 1960s and 1970s, who adopted a feminist critique without reference to social movements, contributing to the debate about the supposed marginalisation of women in the Brazilian art circuit during the dictatorship military.

Respectivamente, a Imprensa, a Igreja Católica e a Universidade. / The analysis of the intellectuality and its role as one of the responsible for the social and cultural changes is a theme which is achieving meaningful positions in the historical production. In this study, I propose an analysis concerning to the development of the feminist thought in the Contemporary Brazil. So, three authors who have performed an important role in this field were chosen since they introduced a feminist perspective in the Brazilian intellectual environment. Such women are: the journalist Carmem da Silva, the writer and publisher Rose Marie Muraro and the sociologist Heleieth Saffioti. These women have collaborated to the inquiring of the traditional and misogynist knowledge through their concepts. They have brought to light new interpretations to the social problems, claiming the analysis of the gender relations as a fundamental subject for the comprehension and changing of the society. Being careful about the changes in the women lives that happened during the XX century, they kept their eyes focused on the Brazilian reality. In the 1960s, during the dictatorial period, their writings symbolized the desired freedom by women and men who dreamed about the possibility of a different country. In that period, Carmen, Rose e Heleieth evolved a debate about the women's condition starting from their working fields. Respectively, the press, the Catholic Church and the Universities are institutions from where emerged a significant part of the scholars and of the intellectual activity in Brazil. The analysis of these women's issues and their course of life provides us with a different point of view about the relation of the power in effect in the context of the 1960s and on the role of the intellectuality in the development and spreading of the feminist thought.

This essay examine the 10th São Paulo Biennial, from 1969, investigating it within a cultural and socio-political situation marked by arbitrariness of a dictatorship, the collective manifestations against injustices, and the social consciousness taking by artists and art critics. The study aims, therefore, broaden the discussion beyond the boycott that has reached the arrangements and the materialization of the show. By an extensive research of documents related to the subject accumulated at the Wanda Svevo Historical Archive - São Paulo Biennial Foundation, it was possible to collect a number of information that helped reconstructing the facts. Besides, to establish a critical analysis of the informational findings, it was restored the published press reports from that time and an updated bibliography of politics, sociology, history and art field. The research presents the different angles of vision and attitude that permeated the boycott and the 10th Biennial seething within the context of the late 1960s. The show was achieved marked by political and cultural challenges and reverberated inside the same conflicts and ideological contradictions of the macro-political scenario. This agitation had its origins in the utopian impulse looking for transformations of the conservative structures.

La figure du sujet lyrique dans la poésie contemporaine : Jacques Dupin, Philippe Jaccottet et Jacques Réda / The figure of the lyric subject in contemporary poetry : Jacques Dupin, Philippe Jaccottet and Jacques RédaNakayama, Shintarô 10 March 2016 (has links)
Our study aims to examine the figures of the lyric subject in the poetry of Jacques Dupin (1927- 2012), Philippe Jaccottet (1924-) and Jacques Réda (1928-), three major poet of the postwar whose poetic work contributed to the evolution of contemporary lyric poetry.Without neglecting the anterior and posterior work of these poets, our study will focus mainly on the works of the 1960s and 1970s. At that time, in fact, the lyric was taken in a critical situation without precedent because of the advent of the structuralism and the “textualism” proclaimed by the avant-garde. In response to textualism of 1960s and 1970s, Dupin, Jaccottet and Réda continue an obstinate search of lyricism. Our study doesn’t aim to develop global and universal criteria to define the universal characteristics of "lyric poetry" as a literary genre, nor to develop a philosophical reflection on the subject or the En-soi. Through the analysis of the figures of lyric subject, we will study the characteristics of each of our poets, as well as patterns of lyric poetry during the difficult period. The notion of "lyric subject" will serve as a parameter in order to clarify the singularity and the historical nature of the poems, and those of the poetic peculiar to each writer.Traditionally, lyric poetry is often associated with the emphasis or sentimentality. The poetry of Dupin, Jaccottet and Reda struggle to free themselves from the traditional lyricism based on the egocentricity. Lyric poetry is no more a genre that expresses the feelings and subjectivity of the poet. Our poets are looking for a new form of lyrical poetry, which is suitable for the times. The impersonality, we often find in their poetic, is associated with the production of a new form of subjectivity, far from the metaphysics of subjectivity. The refusal of some form of subjectivity coexists with the search for a singular word and the new figure of lyric subject.

This doctoral thesis examines fashion editorials through a case study of three American magazines in context, from the 1960s to the 1980s: Vogue and Harper’s Bazaar, two mainstream publications, and a new magazine then, Interview. It is postulated that the photographic editorial production of those magazines is central to them – as material objects, and as the core of their activity as well, both aspects enabling and unfolding their positions, their codes and their purposes. By looking at major editorial series, I explore how these images stand out as "contact zones" between a highly collaborative production process and their receptions, and how their function is also one of negotiation with regards to its context.A close analysis of the conditions of production, the content and the circulations of these images demonstrates that magazines express undeniable conservatism through the perpetuation of a mainstream norm. However, as this norm constantly changes on the surface, I argue that conditions regularly emerge for it to be negotiated. An attentive study of the tensions and compromises unfolding in the « uncertain moments » that characterize the period running from the 1960s through the 1980s demonstrates the existence of a powerful system. Structured around a coherent and hermetic narrative, it proves indeed hard to challenge. Yet, as this thesis argues, the ensemble of editorial fashion images homogenized by these long-term processes is in fact varied and diverse. If these images construct models, they also offer counter-models, counter-narratives and counter-points. All these possibilities converge into a strict but agile framework, firmly oriented by its producers but adaptable, even though its subversive potential is only realized at the margins. This system—structured around a powerful format—is highly restrictive yet it still performs a constant balancing act between conflicting tensions and goals, fueled by and unfolded in the fashion images at its core.

"Každý ví, časy se mění": Vliv kontrakultury šedesátých let na americkou společnost / "The Times They Are A-Changin'": The Impact of the 1960s Counterculture on American SocietyŠčípová, Michaela January 2017 (has links)
The 1960s counterculture had a huge impact on American society and questioned many of the American values in order to replace them with their own ideas. Even thought the first trace of youth's revolt against the older generation appeared in the 1950s, it was in the 1960s when the young generation fully rose up and started to fight for their goals. The 1960s counterculture can be divided into two parts, the New Left and the hippies, which both comprised of many different groups and organizations, among them for example the Black Panthers, the Weatherman, Students for a Democratic Society or Vietnam Veterans Against the War. These organizations engaged in many different issues like a civil rights movement or an antiwar movement. The tool for spreading countercultural values was an art - until nowadays countercultural impact is still visible especially in music. Even thought the countercultural movement gradually became radical and in the end of the 1960s split up, its impact on American society is undeniable in some issues such as drug use, perception of sexuality or questioning authorities.

J.K. Toole, Kurt Vonnegut, Jr. a Ken Kesey: Autorita a groteska v americké literatuře šedesátých let / J.K.Toole, Kurt Vonnegut, Jr. and Ken Kesey: Authority and Grotesque in the U.S. Literature of The 1960s.Kocmichová, Linda January 2012 (has links)
The dissertation focuses on the impact of authority and grotesque in the U.S. literature of the 1960s. The key theoretical approaches used for the analysis were: Bakhtinian theory concerning popular carnival culture and Vizenor's theory concerning tricksters, Deleuzian notion of repetition and schizoanalysis and the theory of Foucault concerning power and anti- authority struggles. The main task of the analysis was to trace the common and differentiating features which were demonstrated in the novels in the form of anti-authority struggles and forms of madness, which is viewed as a deliberating force. The authors were chosen for their challenging attitudes toward the forms of power exercised over the American society and for the usage of the grotesque as a tool to convey a subversive message. The analysed authors were John Kennedy Toole and his A Confederacy of Dunces, Kurt Vonnegut Jr. and his Slaughterhouse 5 and Ken Kesey's One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest.

Then, the position of Czech pop music in the cultural and political context of the period is explained, which is a relevant part of the topic itself. Also an outline of the academic reflection of the related topic is referred to as well as the function of biblical motifs in other styles of music (rock, folk and underground music) with the emphasis on the projection of the stylistic differences into using these topics for the lyrics. The fourth chapter is focused on...
