Control Techniques for Uncore Power Mangement in Chip Multiprocessor Designs

Xu, Zheng 16 December 2013 (has links)
In chip-multiprocessor (CMP) designs, when the number of core increases, the size of on-chip communication fabric and data storage grows accordingly and therefore the chip power challenge is exacerbated. This thesis work considers the power management for networks-on-chip (NoC) and the last level cache, which constitute the uncore in CMP designs. NoC is regarded as a scalable approach to cope with the increasing demand for on-chip communication bandwidth. The last level cache is shared among all cores. The focus of this work is on the control techniques for uncore dynamic voltage and frequency scaling. A realistic but not well-studied scenario is investigated. That is, the entire uncore shares a single voltage/frequency domain, as opposed to separated domains in most of previous works. One appealing advantage here is that data packets no longer experience the interfacing overhead across different voltage/frequency domains. The classic PI (Proportional and Integral) control method is adopted due to its simplicity, flexibility and low implementation overhead. This thesis research outcome includes three parts. First, stability of the PI control is analyzed. Second, a model-assisted PI control scheme is proposed and studied. The model assist is to address the problem that no universally good reference point exists for the control. Third, the windup issue for the PI control is investigated. Full architecture simulations are performed on public benchmark suites to validate the proposed techniques. The result show 76% energy reduction with less than 6% performance degradation compared to constantly high voltage/frequency for uncore.

Solid State NMR studies of functional oxides / Etudes d'oxides fonctionnelles par RMN à l'état solide

Ferrara, Chiara 06 February 2014 (has links)
The functional oxides are performing materials showing interestant properties. The study of the local environment respect to the average struvture is essential for the deep understanding of the correlations between structure and properties ; this investigation of short and medium range can be performed with the use of solid state NMR techniques. In particular in this thesis three different classes of materials for applications in fields of optic and energy are considered : perovskite structure LaSrAlO4, the melilite system LaSr(Ga/Al)3O7 and the family of orthosylicates Li2(Fe/Mn)SiO4.

Rofes Vernhes, Anna January 2013 (has links)
As of the 19th C up until our present day, big cities have set the stage for many literary works, and Barcelona is no exception to this occurrence.  This study aims to address the urban imagery of a postwar Barcelona through the walks described in three novels, written by Spanish women writers. Each one will be analyzed both individually and contrastively. The necessary comparisons will be established and we will further prove the suitability of the theories of Certau, Lefebvre and Lynch. Finally, we will establish the appropriate conclusions derived from our investigation.

Gonzales Macavilca, Milton Alexis January 2017 (has links)
Tesis

A Dual-Port Data Cache with Pseudo-Direct Mapping Function

Gade, Arul Sandeep 07 May 2005 (has links)
Conventional on-chip (L1) data caches such as Direct-Mapped (DM) and 2-way Set-Associative Caches (SAC) have been widely used for high-performance uni (or multi)-processors. Unfortunately, these schemes suffer from high conflict misses since more than one address is mapped onto the same cache line. To reduce the conflict misses, much research has been done in developing different cache architectures such as 2-way Skewed-Associative cache (Skew cache). The 2-way Skew cache has a hardware complexity equivalent to that of 2-way SAC and has a miss-rate approaching that of 4-way SAC. However, the reduction in the miss-rate using a Skew cache is limited by the confined space available to disperse the conflicting accesses over small memory banks. This research proposes a dual-port data cache called Pseudo-Direct Cache (PDC) to minimize the conflict misses by dispersing addresses effectively over a single memory bank. Our simulation results show that PDC reduces those misses significantly compared to any conventional L1 caches and also achieves 10-15% lesser miss-rates than a 2-way Skew cache. SimpleScalar simulator is used for these simulations with SPEC95FP benchmark programs. Similar results were also seen over SPEC2000FP benchmark programs. Simulations over CACTI 3.0 were performed to evaluate the hardware implications of PDC over Skew cache. The simulation results show that the PDC has a simple hardware complexity similar to 2-way SAC and has 4-15% better AMAT compared to 2-way Skew cache. The PDC also reduces execution cycles significantly.

León Mango, Liz Fiorella January 2019 (has links)

Mondoñedo Murillo, Marcos Javier 29 November 2023 (has links)
This thesis aims to develop an analysis model based on the articulation between Greimasian semiotics and Lacanian psychoanalysis. In addition, we want to test the possibilities of this model in the analysis of the significance of the work of two Peruvian poets of the early twentieth century, Alejandro Peralta and Carlos Oquendo. This interdisciplinary and methodological articulation is located between the theory of enunciation belonging to the first discipline mentioned, and the reflections on the real that belong to the second. The method used to build this model is interdisciplinary approach and search for a sustained compossibility in the revision of the aspects that allow, in semiotics, a reasonable incorporation of the dimension of the real in the analysis of discourse and the observation of the orientation that Lacan has made regarding the category of enunciation in psychoanalysis. The main conclusion we reach is that it is possible to inscribe the dimension of the real in the semiotic analysis of discourse from an expansion of the modal basis of enunciative praxis and to introduce, in semiotics, the Lacanian notion of letter as mediator between incompossible dimensions.
