Stråkröjning och skogsbränsleuttag i unga granbestånd jämfört med konventionella metoder : Två fältstudier vid Asa försökspark / Pre-commercial line thinning and wood fuel extraction in young spruce stands compared to conventional methods : Two field studies at the Asa Experimental Forest

Rosander, Konrad January 2006 (has links)
Study 1 consisted of experimental plots in a 13 years old stand which have been pre-commercial thinned to the same number of tree stems but with three different methods: motor-manual selective pre-commercial thinning by brush saw, mechanical pre-commercial line thinning and as a combination of the both methods. The purpose was to describe the present status, run simulations and produce forecasts for the development of the stand and calculate the economical aspects up to and including the first thinning and then compare the different methods with each other. Study 2 consists of experimental plots in a 23 years old stand with a pre-commercial thinning backlog, where four different treatments were tested; no pre-commercial thinning at all before the first thinning, low pre-commercial thinning in connection with the first thinning, late pre-commercial thinning and extraction of wood fuel. Effects of Past and Future Motor Events on Present Motor Stability, and Relationships with Motor and Cognitive Flexibility

Mitchell A Tillman (6622736) 11 June 2019 (has links)
<div>Stability of motor performance is important for voluntary movement control, but it should not be maximized to the exclusion of all else. To transition to a new task, the current task must be destabilized. When expecting to switch tasks, people are known to reduce their stability prior to initiating the change. Here, we determine if the observed stability modulation is influenced by the expectation of future movement, is a relic of the movements performed in the recent past, or is a consequence of both those processes. Furthermore, this work explores the relation between stability modulation observed in isometric finger force production tasks to cognitive flexibility and clinical measures of manual dexterity. Stability modulation can be viewed as a motor response to the recognition of altered environmental demands or internally generated desires to change body movements or postures. Therefore, it is hypothesized that cognitive flexibility – the efficacy of cognitive processing – will relate to stability modulation. Finally, it is hypothesized that the motor adjustments in response to changing task/environment demands will correlate with clinical tests of manual dexterity that involve placing pegs into holes.</div><div>Twenty-two young-adult participants (age 21.05 +/- 0.44 years) completed tasks in the three domains. The Grooved Pegboard and NIH 9-Hole tests of manual dexterity measured their manual function by time to complete the tests. Cognitive flexibility was measured by a task-switching task which required adjusting to a changing set of rules, and the reaction time and accuracy costs of task-switching were recorded. Lastly, participants’ stability of performance in an isometric finger-pressing task was assessed using the uncontrolled manifold analysis and root-mean-square error (RMSE) in the performance. Participants produced pressing forces with four fingers to match a single total force targets presented as feedback on a computer screen. In the ‘Steady’ task, target remained motionless. In the ‘Future Effects’ task, the target remained motionless for several seconds and then began moving. The ‘Past Effects’ task comprised of a dynamic initial portion followed by a stationary target. Lastly, the ‘Combined’ task had a constant force section flanked on either side by epochs of target movement. </div><div>The RMSE results confirmed the existence of stability modulation and established that this is driven by the expectation of future movement, and not by the history of previous movements. The Steady and Past Effects tasks exhibited higher stability than the Future Effects and Combined tasks. The stability estimates obtained from the uncontrolled manifold analysis showed similar trends. Cognitive flexibility (quantified as global accuracy cost) correlated with stability modulation indicating that individuals who show greater cognitive flexibility tend to demonstrate greater stability modulation. However, an association between stability modulation and clinical pegboard tests of manual function were not observed. This may possibly be due to the homogeneity of the test sample, or because the finger-force-production task and pegboard task measure disparate aspects of manual function. </div><div><br></div>

Untersuchungen zur Papierleimung mit Alkenylbernsteinsäureanhydrid (ASA) / Investigations on Paper Sizing with Alkenyl Succinic Anhydride (ASA)

Martorana, Emanuele 02 August 2012 (has links) (PDF)
The purpose of this work was to develop a deeper understanding of the mechanisms in ASA sizing and to minimise interactions with fillers and other chemical additives. Therefore analytical test methods were developed, to enable a simple mass balance approach for ASA and its reaction products. Afterwards, the influence of various factors affecting ASA sizing and retention could be investigated and explained. Furthermore, the most important factors which influence particle size, stability, and hydrolysis of ASA emulsions had to be determined. In the first part of this work, studies regarding the emulsification of ASA were carried out. Here, the most important factors with regard to particle size, stability, and hydrolysis of ASA emulsions were investigated. Furthermore, a method for the exact determination of ASA hydrolysis as well as the agglomeration tendency was developed. For the investigations regarding the analytical determination, a fast and easy-to-use method for the quantification of ASA and AKD has been developed. The investigations have shown that a quantitative determination of synthetic sizing agents (ASA / AKD) is possible using NIR spectroscopy. With the help of multivariate data analysis and PLS regression, mainly the region of the CH2-bands around 4300 cm-1 and 5750 cm-1 were evaluated. The prediction error (RMSEP) for the determination of AKD is 0.01 %, and 0.013 % for ASA. Even an analysis of the percentage of bound and unbound ASA / AKD is possible by NIR spectroscopy of extracted paper samples. Thus, a fast and detailed investigation of mechanisms as regards sizing is possible. The developed NIR methods were validated using HPLC and Pyrolysis-GC/MS. In the last part of the work, interactions of ASA with fillers and chemical additives were investigated, and mechanisms of ASA sizing were studied. It was shown that the mechanism of ASA sizing - as often described in the literature - can not only be attributed to the esterification with the hydroxyl groups of the cellulose. In fact, the optimal effect of sizing agents is much more dependant on a fine distribution, mobility and orientation of ASA molecules. It was observed that the main part of the ASA is present in an unbound (hydrolysed) form and therefore is able to migrate through the paper structure. However, the hydrolysed ASA can significantly contribute to sizing when it is finely distributed and well orientated. Sizing agents orientated in the opposite do not contribute to sizing but they can even decrease the existing sizing level. To summarize, it can be concluded that, in this work important fundamentals as regards ASA sizing were developed using modern test methods. Thereby important contributions were made to the topics of emulsification, hydrolysis- and emulsion-stability, analytical determination, interactions and mechanisms of ASA. These results show possibilities how ASA sizing agents can be used more effectively, process disturbances avoided, and costs reduced.

The development of the aeronautic industry has caused significant changes in concepts currently applied in aircraft either for civil or military purposes. These changes are partly due to environmental awareness that has pushed the industry to produce more efficient and less polluting aircraft to remain competitive. The result of these changes on design and construction of aircraft is the incessant search for concepts that increase the efficiency of aircraft in a broader flight range without impacting on the safety and reliability of these systems. In this context arises the concept of adaptive aircraft, which are able to adapt to the flow of aerodynamic changes without compromising flight safety. One of the concepts of morphing aircraft is the morphing wing, with the possibility of variation airfoil camber, which is used in this work. These structures have some limitations that need to be developed as the actuation system, control system and structural mechanics associated with the shape change. Based on these aspects, this work describes the development of a new concept of adaptive wing, driven by shape memory alloy (SMA) micro coil springs like actuator. The prototype, called SMArt Morphing Wing, had its mechanical structure built in ABS polymer for 3D printing and a system of "skin" made of thin sheet of acetate. The prototype was tested unloaded and under aerodynamic loading on the wind tunnel, to evaluate the influence of the skin and the response of SMA actuators under load. In the no load tests were evaluated the maximum angular deflection of the prototype with and without skin, whereas in tests under aerodynamic loading between 6m/s and 14m/s, the maximum deflection, drag and lift forces were evaluated. Additionally, using the computational tool ANSYS® CFD, theoretical analyses of the aerodynamic behavior of the prototype in the most critical condition deflection and speed they were made. The comparison between the numerical and experimental results obtained in wind tunnel showed good agreement, confirming the efficiency of the developed prototype.

Improving the Cyber defence of an organisation based on IP Geolocation and security appliances / Förbättra en organisations cyberförsvar baserad på IP Geolocation och säkerhetssystem

Opasinov, Aleksandar, Eftekhari, Sina January 2020 (has links)
As advancement and usage of data communication has increased exponentially on a global scale, with a devastating exposure to attacks and varying security threats to home offices as well as to large enterprises, there is always a need for enhanced network protection. The IT department of the company OneDefence, located in western Sweden, was chosen for the thesis and based on the stated information from the organisation, aims were set on how to improve their network defence capabilities. The aim of this thesis is to list ten countries posing the most serious IT threats, and to limit the attack surface of OneDefence’s IT network as much as possible while still providing the necessary services to users abroad. After researching the countries, a prototype was set up to mimic OneDefence’s topology of interest and test attacks were conducted as detailed in the Methodology chapter. The results of the investigations showed the countries posing most serious cyber threats included China, Russia and North Korea among others which were statistically calculated based on the total number of recognised cyberwarfare attacks. The results obtained from the different DoS attacks in the prototype showed that an IPS should be at the heart of an organisation's network defence for combating these intrusions, as well as potentially other types. With the help of a prototype built based on the organisation's topology, several attacks were somewhat successfully mitigated with the equipment used on hand, with only a low percentage of packets allowed to pass through the security unit. Lastly, to explore further enhancements of defence capabilities of OneDefence, a comparison between different products and devices were performed. This resulted in products from the Fortinet brand such as FortiGate NGFW and UTM capabilities as they are offering several advantages compared to competitors.

Análise experimental das características aerodinâmicas de multi-winglets adaptativas / Experimental analysis of aerodynamics characteristics of adaptative multi-winglets

Cerón Muñoz, Hernán Darío 18 October 2004 (has links)
The aim of this research is the study of the potential use of adaptive multi-winglets to reduce induced drag through variations of winglet cant angles. The vortices generated at the wing tips are an inevitable product of the presence of lift, that is, they represent the price paid for the presence for the force that keeps the aircraft in the air. Different studies have shown that the flow over the wing-tip can be redirected using small aerodynamics surfaces, thereby reducing the induced drag. The model tested is composed of a rectangular wing using a NACA 653 - 018 profile with three winglets called \"tip-sails\", which are small wings without sweep at 25% chord. The tests were made at a Reynolds number of 350,000. The results are analyzed in terms of lift and drag and mapping of the wake using hot wire anemometry techniques.

Influência de dispositivos de ponta de asa no desempenho de um avião agrícola / The influence of wing tip devices on the performance of an agricultural aircraft

Coimbra, Rogério Frauendorf de Faria 24 October 1997 (has links)
An airplane\'s drag reductions can improve performance and reduce the required power. The induced drag is the component which, if reduced, offers better results, because it is responsible from 30% to 50% of total drag. Such reductions in drag can be achieved through modifications of the wing tips. Some models displace wing tip vortices outwards diminishing the induced drag. Others, like the \'\'winglets\'\', make good use of the spiral draught on this portion of the wing, producing traction and reducing the total drag. Concerning agricultural airplanes, wing tip vortex position is really important while spreading products over a plantation. In this work, wind tunnel tests were made in order to find a better wing tip among the folowing types for this use: the delta tip, \"winglet\" and \"Hoerner\". The \'\'Hoerner\'\' tip was better for total drag reduction, but not good with reference to vortex position. The delta tip gave low improvement on aerodynamic characteristics, but a good vortiex position. The \"winglet\" tip had a better vortex position, but caused an undesirable result with reference to the wing root bending moment.

Uma abordagem filogeográfica da espécie invasora Drosophila suzukii (Diptera: Drosophilidae) no Brasil / A phylogeographic approach to the Drosophila suzukii (Diptera: Drosophilidae) invasion in Brazil

Abreu, Petra Ferronato Gomes de 19 June 2018 (has links)
Biological invasions have reached large parts of the globe, due to human actions across the planet. Drosophila suzukii (Matsumura, 1931) (Diptera: Drosophilidae) is a globally invasive species, always associated with enormous and costly damage to agricultural crops. Native to Southeast Asia, D. suzukii recently (i.e. 2013) invaded and is dispersing through South America. Here, we used a phylogeographic approach based on the COI gene fragment to explore the invasion dynamics of D. suzukii populations in Brazil. We identified five haplotypes and moderate genetic diversity in Brazilian populations, which are undergoing demographic and spatial expansion. The AMOVA indicated a high genetic structure among the populations, which is partially explained by their morphoclimatic origin and invasion history. D. suzukii expanded from southern to southeastern Brazil, aided by human-mediated transport of fruits from region to region. The sharing of haplotypes among Brazilian and other invaded regions of the world suggests a single invasion event of D. suzukii in Brazil, originating from previously invaded areas (e.g., North America and Europe). The rapid geographic dispersal and wide variety of fruits attacked by of D. suzukii require immediate implementation of control strategies (legal and phytosanitary) to manage this pest in Brazil.

Vagnaldo Teles de Carvalho 12 September 2007 (has links)
