The purpose of this study was to see how aware employees in a management in Eskilstuna municipality was about the gender equality targets in the city's own policy document on gender equality. A Web-based survey was implemented in which 130 questionnaires were sent out. Respondents have been responding to various queries around the policy document and they have given suggestions for improvement. A quantitative method has been chosen and analyzed the material from the theoretical perspective around social constructivism and previous research. Previous research has shown that it can be difficult to implement a plan of action or a policy document in large organizations in a satisfactory way. The result of the survey shows that few of the respondents are aware of the document and only a few have read it and are aware of the goals that are posted.

Anti-Affirmative Action Legislation in California Universities: Whitening the Ivory TowersKontak, Nicole January 2015 (has links)
This multi case study examined how leaders of color narrated their experiences regarding access to leadership positions at two universities in California before and after Proposition 209 (California's anti-affirmative action legislation) was enacted in 1996. The research focused on addressing a gap in the literature with regards to professionals of color and the barriers they may have faced in the hiring process in an era of anti-affirmative action legislation. Semi-structured interviews of eighteen Student Affairs leaders of color (with job descriptions no lower than assistant director) were conducted. In addition, critical discourse analysis as outlined by Fairclough (1995) was used to analyze affirmative action plans from both institutions before and after Proposition 209. Cultural capital and critical race theory were the theoretical frameworks used to analyze the participant narratives and the discourse within the affirmative action plans. Findings included: qualifications being more important than cultural forms of knowledge, more diversity among director level positions, the hiring process being described as complex and lengthy, the importance of professional mentors, and leaders of color needing to assimilate to valued norms representative of the status quo to be successful in the hiring process as well as in their professional work environments. Recommendations for further research as well as recommendations for leadership development for professionals of color in higher education institutions is discussed.

The Future of the St. Lawrence River at Cornwall, Ontario Post-Remedial Action Plan (RAP): Navigating toward SustainabilityRITCEY, Alicia Laura 06 October 2010 (has links)
This thesis undertakes a review of the Remedial Action Plans (RAPs) for the St. Lawrence River Area of Concern (AOC). As directed by Great Lakes Water Quality Agreement, RAPs are to take a systematic and comprehensive ecosystem approach to restoration, and ensure that the public is consulted about restoration activities. Through triangulation of three different research methods: twelve semi-structured interviews, observational research, and document analysis, this research explores how these two principles were incorporated into the St. Lawrence River AOC.
This research draws from environmental management and governance literature in order to describe the implementation and decision-making frameworks of the RAP program. In theory an ecosystem approach is to be holistic and comprehensive in scope and application. In terms of the St. Lawrence River AOC, the holistic nature of the restoration process was hindered by the jurisdictional complexity of the region; Not only was there two federal governments, Canada and the United States, but the province of Ontario, state of New York, and the Mohawks of Akwesasne Nation. These jurisdictional divisions led to the eventual decision to separate the AOC into two RAPs at Massena, NY and Cornwall, ON. This division led to a divergence in impairment indicator identification and resultant restoration practices, timelines for RAP progress reports, availability of financial resources, and collective organization of restoration duties.
The goal of each RAP is to eventually delist as an AOC. Through a review of the collective organization of the Cornwall RAP, it is best described as participatory and inclusive in terms of governance. There was representation and membership from government, industry, First Nations, and the public making the Cornwall RAP an example of solidarity in action. Because there has been a unification of visions through the RAP process, which is to have a clean and health St. Lawrence River, momentum has been generated to expand the ideals of the RAP to a broader St. Lawrence River collective. Lessons learned from this restoration process are constructive for cross-jurisdictional, multi-media restoration projects and serve to inform approaches to ecosystem restoration, planning, and management, especially that of the St. Lawrence River. / Thesis (Master, Environmental Studies) -- Queen's University, 2010-09-30 15:39:18.132

The European Neighbourhood Policy Towards Lebanon: Expansion Without Further EnlargementTuredi, Almula 01 May 2008 (has links) (PDF)
This thesis analyzes the European Neighbourhood Policy (ENP) towards Lebanon. The thesis looks into early European initiatives to demonstrate growing EU ambitions towards the Mediterranean region. Lebanon is examined with its specificities in historic context and EU&rsquo / s sending troops to UNIFIL army after the July 2006 war. As the 2004 enlargement brought the EU closer to Lebanon, and as the EU tends to play a growing international role, particularly in the Mediterranean region, the EU saw the Israeli attack on Lebanon as an opportunity to increase its engagement in Lebanon, thereby increasing its influence in the region.
The thesis argues that the ENP is the newest foreign policy tool both to answer the concerns of EU in the Mediterranean region and to raise the EU&rsquo / s profile in the region.

The Climate in the CAPs : A Comparative Case Study of Iceland’s and Sweden’s Climate Action PlansSímonardóttir, Svandís Ósk January 2021 (has links)
This thesis examines the climate role conceptions and climate role positions of Iceland and Sweden respectively, as they are portrayed in their climate action plans. This study compliments the current trend to examine climate leadership within International Relations, with an additional focus on the Nordic countries. Not only is the Nordic identity enmeshed with ideas of environmentalism, but the Nordic countries also have a reputation of being environmental leaders. Despite this reputation, the Nordic countries vary considerably between themselves when it comes to climate performance, thus inspiring the study of the highest and lowest Nordic emitters of greenhouse gases. The study is carried out from a constructivist role theory perspective, which is complemented with a novel climate role analytical framework. A content analysis is conducted on Iceland‘s and Sweden‘s countries‘ climate action plans, and climate role indicators are coded and analyzed. The study reveals that both Iceland and Sweden depict themselves as climate leaders in their climate action plans. However, while both countries refer to themselves as climate leaders, the leadership indicators are manifested distinctively, resulting in the countries projecting different climate leadership role positions. By evaluating Iceland’s and Sweden’s portrayal of global climate leadership, it is assessed that Iceland assumes the climate role position of a pioneer, with aspirations for setting an example for other countries through its climate transition, and that Sweden assumes the climate role position of a constructive pusher, with aspirations to lead the domestic and global climate transition through ambitious actions. The analysis thus reveals how Sweden’s internationally ascribed roles as a climate leader and Iceland’s internationally ascribed role as an environmental leader is legitimated and reverberated throughout their respective climate action plans, in accordance with their role conceptions and identities.
