Made available in DSpace on 2016-04-29T14:23:28Z (GMT). No. of bitstreams: 1 Jose Roberto Madureira Junior.pdf: 2597024 bytes, checksum: f6b607352cabb213c3e453dae6b3b008 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2014-03-14 / Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / The following research focuses on the widespread use of Cloud Computing as a result of a major market boost due to the latest trends and needs. It has progressed as a result of advanced technology providing businesses a high standard of service as well as being of great benefit to its users. This final work is aimed at demonstrating users and potencial ones the benefits as well as the possibilities and challenges involved in the use of Cloud Computing and therefore allow them to identify, understand and manage such a service. As a result users shall be able to hire services involving a low risk factor in addition to implementing an appropriate workload. Due to the lack of information regarding Cloud Computing services, we believe that this research can provide users a valuable contribution in clarifying and highlighting both the potentiality and benefits involved as well as analysing the reasons they have not been able to benefit from them so far. We would like to point out that when we searched for literature regarding specifically the service users no significant data was collected. As a result we strongly believe that if such material is published it will represent a significant contribution towards both the users and the academic community. At first we carried out a state of the art study regarding Cloud Computing, identifying the potential benefits involved in providing such a service as well as the impact such a model has had on the information technology scenario. Then we implemented the case study metodology in which three real cases with the model in use were closely followed. Reference is also made to prestigious companies with a solid background within their market segment and the respective services they provide. This will allow the users to obtain the necessary backup in order to be able to previously analyse the ideal sevice which will suit their needs. We concluded that companies seem to be cautious about implementing such a structure due to their concern about mainly operational and safety measures. Cloud Computing´s progress depends on such an acceptance. Therefore this text focuses on identifying and analysing the challenges and benefits involved in implementing such a model. Research has been done with the specific aim of offering a wide range of businesses an overview of Cloud Computing as well as enabling users to overcome any difficulties / Esta pesquisa trata da utilização de Cloud Computing, mostrando sua disseminação impulsionada pelas tendências e necessidades do mercado.

Reinventing Traditional Shopping

Wamsler, Erika, Jonsson, Linnea January 2018 (has links)
Digitalization has impacted online retailing heavily, however traditional stores have not changed as much in comparison. Earlier studies have not only suggested how stores could reinvent themselves, but also indicated that brands could have great advantages by doing so. Furthermore, the customer experience and it’s reinforced importance within brick and mortar has been highlighted. It has also been established that the customer experience could be strengthen by implementing advanced technology. Due to the lack of research within the subject and a mainly theoretical discussion about how and why stores implement advanced technology in store, this study aims to investigate from more practical point of view how and why companies implement advanced technology. This study has a qualitative method, by conducting a total of 7 interviews. Five interviews were conducted with employees within different retailing companies implementing advanced technology in store; BMW, Clas Ohlson, Volvo Car Company, Volkswagen and Synsam Group. To continue, two complementary interviews from a rather general market perspective were conducted; one with AMF Fastigheter on their new project The Lobby focusing on the development of the future store and one with Curiat (NZ) Limited a subject specialist on Augmented Reality, which was one of the most common technologies in this study. The study identifies several factors correlating to how and why brands reinvent their physical stores through advanced technologies. In order to implement the technology successfully, such as Virtual Reality, Augmented reality and Interactive Digital Signage, traditional retailers have to modify their business models and their operational skills within the organization. One main motivation as for why traditional retailers implement advanced technology is a changed consumer behavior and market. This puts a new kind of pressure on traditional retailers and stresses the importance of the customer experience. The customer experience and relationships can be strengthened by implementing advanced technology and are two important factors as to why retailers utilize advanced technology in store. Traditional retailers also use the implemented advanced technology as a marketing tool, in order to market themselves as innovative and meet the new market. In addition to this, there has been a change in communication between customer and store. Retailers can use the advanced technology in order to not only interact in a new way with their customers, but also communicate through various of their channels. This creates a smoother and more seamless experience for the customer, and connect offline with online.

Evolution of public transport network design due to the arrival of autonomous buses

Yudo Purnomo, Robby January 2020 (has links)
There is rapid development in the transportation field. Soon, along with the rapid population growth, there will be a change in the mobility pattern. To prepare the different travel demand, there are several new advanced technologies that are on the development process such as the electrification of the vehicle, the micro-mobility service, and the automation of the vehicle. The latter subject is the main focus of this research. The main objective of this research is to observe and analyze the development of a new model to provide a tool for the analysis of the public transport system and the analysis of different scenarios related to the degree of development of automated vehicles and the characteristics of the area of service and demand. The network design in this research is a hybrid concept developed by Carlos Daganzo in 2010 that combines the grid network on the central area and radial network on the peripheral area. In the central area, there is two intersecting public transit (bus and metro). In contrast, on the peripheral area, a feeder bus will provide the service for the passengers and also there will be two feeder alternatives, namely fixed route and door to door. The objective function of the optimization is to minimize the total cost regarding the available decision variables. The total cost is consist of agency cost (infrastructure length, total vehicle distance travelled, total vehicle hours travelled) and user cost (waiting time, access time, in-vehicle time) and the minimization process need to follow the constraint of headway, spacing, and vehicles capacity. Based on the base optimization, the most optimum value for alpha, bus spacing, metro spacing, and inner area length regarding to the total cost is 0.23, 0.2 km, 4 km, and 0.3 km respectively. while the Fixed Route Feeder Service with Full Automation is the most beneficial type of service. It generates the lowest total cost per passenger regarding to any decision variables except feeder spacing due to the different formulation between fixed route and door to door service. On contrary, Door to Door Feeder Service with No Automation has the highest total cost per passenger. The total cost in figure, based on the optimum value for each decision variables. Therefore there is no optimum value for headway considering the trend of the total cost is linear

The Joker Returns: A new perspective on the violent Clown Prince of Crime

Efthymiadou, Panagiota, Koukouvinou, Panagiota January 2020 (has links)
The new “Joker” movie, directed by Todd Phillips, was released in 2019 and brought a range of fervent and controversial discussion both in critics and audiences. Nevertheless, the “Joker” persona is tightly associated with comics and the superhero movie genre, and usually depicted in a particular way. However, the new movie differs in vital points. This study aims to explore the differences that lie between the “Joker”, and his depiction in the superhero genre. In order to investigate this inquiry, we conducted an exploratory research, and used latent content analysis. From our results, we extrapolate that the new movie constructs a more humane and approachable image of the “Joker”, as opposed to the “nameless” and “cold-blooded” villain. Simultaneously, we concluded that the movie adopts a more realistic and less entertaining approach towards violence, a prominent characteristic in superhero movies

Aviation Global Demand Forecast Model Development: Air Transportation Demand Distribution and Aircraft Fleet Evolution

Freire Burgos, Edwin R. 08 September 2017 (has links)
The Portfolio Analysis Management Office (PAMO) for the Aeronautics Research Mission Directorate (ARMD) at NASA Headquarters tasked the Systems Analysis and Concepts Directorate at NASA Langley to combine efforts with Virginia Tech to develop a global demand model with the capability to predict future demand in the air transportation field. A previous study (Alsalous, 2015) started the development of the Global Demand Mode (GDM) to predict air travel demand based on Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and population trends for 3,974 airports worldwide. The study was done from year 2016 to year 2040. This research project intends to enhance the GDM capabilities. A Fratar model is implemented for the distribution of the forecast demand during each year. The Fratar model uses a 3,974 by 3,974 origin-destination matrix to distribute the demand among 55,612 unique routes in the network. Moreover, the GDM is capable to estimate the aircraft fleet mix per route and the number of flights per aircraft that are needed to satisfy the forecast demand. The model adopts the aircraft fleet mix from the Official Airline Guide data for the year 2015. Once the aircraft types are distributed and flights are assigned, the GDM runs an aircraft retirement and replacement analysis to remove older generation aircraft from the network and replace them with existing or newer aircraft. The GDM continues to evolve worldwide aircraft fleet by introducing 14 new generation aircraft from Airbus, Boeing, Bombardier, and Embraer and 5 Advanced Technology Aircraft from NASA. / Master of Science / The Portfolio Analysis Management Office (PAMO) for the Aeronautics Research Mission Directorate (ARMD) at NASA Headquarters tasked the Systems Analysis and Concepts Directorate at NASA Langley to combine efforts with Virginia Tech to develop a global demand model with the capability to predict future demand in the air transportation field. The study was done from year 2016 to year 2040. The previous study done by Alsaous, predicts how many seats will be departing out of the 3,974 airports worldwide. This project intends to use the outputs of the GDM and distribute the seats predicted among the airports. The objective is to predict how many seats will be offered that will be departing from airport “A” and arriving at airport “B”. For this, a Fratar model was implemented. The second objective of this project is to estimate what will the aircraft fleet be in the future and how many flights will be needed to satisfy the predicted air travel demand. If the number of seats going from airport A to airport B is known, then, by analyzing real data it can be estimated what type of aircraft will be flying from airport “A” to airport “B” and how many flights each aircraft will have to perform in order to satisfy the forecasted demand. Besides of estimating the type of aircraft that will be used in the future, the modeled created is capable of introducing new aircraft that are not part of the network yet. Fourteen new generation aircraft from Airbus, Boeing, Bombardier, and Embraer and 5 Advanced Technology Aircraft from NASA.

Inovação em empresa de tecnologia de informação para mobilidade urbana sustentável / Innovation in information technology company for sustainable urban mobility

Molina, Rafael Antonangelo 06 November 2017 (has links)
The professional experience in a technology company focused on urban mobility allowed the identification of three main advantages to information systems application in the urban buses operation: economic, social and environmental. However, in the development of new business models, difficulties were identified in positioning the environmental gain as a value proposition for the company\'s main customers: urban bus operators. Based on this problem, this research was developed, guided by the search for a value proposition that can be presented by technology companies focused on urban mobility to achieve environmental gains to their clients. In order to do so, the company\'s history of action was drawn up, outlining the business model of bus companies, their context of action in relation to the movement of smart cities, increasing attention to environmental issues and the adherence of technology to their operational processes. This set supported the identification of initial value proposition of an information system to support environmental management processes in bus companies. This product was then exposed to technology and transportation professionals to verify their value and construction proposal. The feedbacks of these professionals allowed us to define a value proposition according with the interest of bus operators in computing sustainability indicators of their operations, especially regarding environmental management. The product that pack this value proposition had its viability of implementation verified, through customers\' valuation, pricing and development and maintenance costs.

Made available in DSpace on 2016-04-28T20:57:06Z (GMT). No. of bitstreams: 1 CD 1 - PED - Elida Maria F Costalonga.pdf: 1501389 bytes, checksum: 076b58772feba611e42193b6bfbc91d3 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2006-09-29 / The study aimed at analyzing the theoretical-methodological treatment given to the teaching of Written Language in a process of education teachers-literacy teachers , taking into account the nature of that professional role in the triad didactic: teacher/ student/ object- writing. The initial idea was that the knowledge of writing is enrolled in the story of discursive actions of human- in- the- world- with- Another. As reference there is a theoretical-conceptual methodology inspired in Vygotski (1993, 1995), Bakhtin (1995, 2003), Foucault (2002) and Eco (1989, 1995), as well, studies in the Language field, in which the ones from Faundez and Mugrabi (2000, 2003) stand out, facing the theoretical tools that present and that seem adequate to the object and to the goals of that work. The study field was PEC- Municipal University Education, developed under the coordination of PUC-SP, which goal was to offer Licentiate for teachers specialized in teaching children and beginning grades of the Fundamental Teaching of municipal schools. This Program uses a non conventional methodology using advanced technology, printing material and diversified team of teachers. Considering that, the teaching content is transmitted by determined discursive ways from didactic utterance destined for students-teachers, there is an analysis of conceptions and subjacent feelings to foreseen activities in order to orienting about their role in the initiation process of the children in the world of written language. In general, what the didactic utterance, in the study ambit, provide is a group of data that project a triadic configuration in which the interrelation formers/student-teachers/ writing teaching seem lacunaria and inconsistent. That inconsistence observed in the university formation tends to affect the interrelations teacher/children/object-written, for the emphasis in the formatting discourses in making the teachers believe that the psychogenetic theory of the written language is the only theory that make them able to do adequate interventions, not considering multiple accomplishments and multidimensionality of the written language development process by children. The evidence found lead to conclude that, in spite of the innovation attempts, there are more continuities than ruptures in relation to conceptions and criticized practices / Este estudo teve como objetivo analisar o tratamento teórico-metodológico dado ao ensino da Linguagem Escrita em um processo de formação universitária de professores-alfabetizadores, levando em consideração a natureza do papel deste profissional na tríade didática: professor/aluno/objeto-escrita, Segundo nosso ponto de vista, a linguagem escrita se inscreve na história das ações discursivas do humano-no-mundo-com-o-Outro.
