Coexistencia generacional en las organizaciones

Pacchioni  Hurtado, Valeria Anttuaneth 31 July 2020 (has links)
This paper analyzes and explores the professional practices of different generations in the workplace; on the one hand, there is the "Generation Y", with extensive technological skills and great digital knowledge; and on the other, the "Baby Boomers", elderly people focused on their career and their traditional way of working. The generational transition is currently a challenge for all organizations, since this gap is not handled correctly, creating a negative work environment, so that it decreases the productivity of staff. Likewise, the possibility of a “Baby Boomer” finding workplaces in administrative areas, is decreasing more and more, due to the accelerated changes in internal processes of organizations and the greater pressure from their customers. However, the coexistence of both generations is increasingly complexed due to the prejudices and perceptions they have about each other in terms of decision making, processes and even in the work methodology. In relation to these prejudices, they result in the labor and emotional imbalance of their employees. / Trabajo de investigación

El texto completo de este trabajo no está disponible en el Repositorio Académico UPC por restricciones de la casa editorial donde ha sido publicado. / Background: In 1999, The International Study of Asthma and Allergies in Childhood (ISAAC) Phase One reported the prevalence of eczema symptoms in 715,033 children from 154 centers in 56 countries by using standardized epidemiologic tools. Objective: To update the world map of eczema prevalence after 5 to 10 years (ISAAC Phase Three) and include additional data from over 100 new centers. Methods: Cross-sectional surveys using the ISAAC questionnaire on eczema symptoms were completed by adolescents 13 to 14 years old and by parents of children 6 to 7 years old. Current eczema was defined as an itchy flexural rash in the past 12 months and was considered severe eczema if associated with 1 or more nights per week of sleep disturbance. Results: For the age group 6 to 7 years, data on 385,853 participants from 143 centers in 60 countries showed that the prevalence of current eczema ranged from 0.9% in India to 22.5% in Ecuador, with new data showing high values in Asia and Latin America. For the age group 13 to 14 years, data on 663,256 participants from 230 centers in 96 countries showed prevalence values ranging from 0.2% in China to 24.6% in Columbia with the highest values in Africa and Latin America. Current eczema was lower for boys than girls (odds ratio, 0.94 and 0.72 at ages 6 to 7 years and 13 to 14 years, respectively). Conclusion:ISAAC Phase Three provides comprehensive global data on the prevalence of eczema symptoms that is essential for public health planning. New data reveal that eczema is a disease of developing as well as developed countries.

Introduction: The incidence of dengue, influenced by human behavior, social structure and population distribution, may vary with respect to the geographical areas of a given city. Its prognosis depends on early diagnosis and prompt initiation of treatment. This study evaluates factors related to the occurrence of dengue, emphasizing the territorial distribution and risk factors for severe dengue. Methods: A cross-sectional and a retrospective study on all cases were conducted with dengue cases of Vitória in 2011, based on data from the Information System of Notifiable Diseases (SINAN). Results: 53.4% of confirmed cases occurred in women, 74.7% were 15 years old or older, and 6.3% were severe forms. The health territories of Jardim Camburi, Maruípe, Ilha das Caieiras, Santa Martha and Santo André accounted for 41.6% of reported cases. Almost half of the cases had final classification based on laboratory tests, and of these, 80% were submitted to serological tests. Of all territories, more than 20% of those reported cases had been submitted to serological tests, and more than 51% of them had a positive result. In the regions of São Pedro, Santo Antônio e Maruípe, the affected individuals were younger, while in Continental Region and Forte São João Region, they were older. Of the 371 cases of severe dengue, 78.7% were classified as dengue with complications and 21.3% were classified as dengue hemorrhagic fever, whose age distribution disclosed a frequency of 67.1% in individuals 15 years old or older. Regions of Maruípe and São Pedro were responsible for over half of cases of severe dengue (56.3%). There was a statistically significant association between the occurrence of dengue hemorrhagic fever and younger ages (under 15 years) and longer time interval between the beginning of symptoms and seeking for care. People younger than 15 years old take longer to seek for care. The frequencies of cases of severe dengue were concentrated in younger age groups in the region of São Pedro. Conclusion: The geographical distribution was not uniform, and can be influenced by the high population density and socioeconomic conditions. The age differences between regions may be related to disease incidence in these locations. A large proportion of positive tests and a great number of tests performed allowed a good detection and monitoring of dengue cases. The results corroborate those of other studies that indicate a change in the profile of dengue hemorrhagic fever in the Americas and Brazil, with growing involvement of young people, and indicate the time delay in seeking treatment, urban poor quality and high endemic scenario as possible risk factors.

Factors influencing European consumer uptake of personalised nutrition. Results of a qualitative analysis

Stewart-Knox, Barbara, Kuznesof, S., Robinson, J., Rankin, A., Orr, K., Duffy, M., Poinhos, R., de Almeida, M.D.V., Macready, A.L., Gallagher, C., Berezowska, A., Fischer, A.R.H., Navas-Carretero, S., Riemer, M., Traczyk, I., Gjelstad, I.M.F., Mavrogianni, C., Frewer, L.J. January 2013 (has links)
The aim of this research was to explore consumer perceptions of personalised nutrition and to compare these across three different levels of "medicalization": lifestyle assessment (no blood sampling); phenotypic assessment (blood sampling); genomic assessment (blood and buccal sampling). The protocol was developed from two pilot focus groups conducted in the UK. Two focus groups (one comprising only "older" individuals between 30 and 60 years old, the other of adults 18-65 yrs of age) were run in the UK, Spain, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Ireland, Greece and Germany (N=16). The analysis (guided using grounded theory) suggested that personalised nutrition was perceived in terms of benefit to health and fitness and that convenience was an important driver of uptake. Negative attitudes were associated with internet delivery but not with personalised nutrition per se. Barriers to uptake were linked to broader technological issues associated with data protection, trust in regulator and service providers. Services that required a fee were expected to be of better quality and more secure. An efficacious, transparent and trustworthy regulatory framework for personalised nutrition is required to alleviate consumer concern. In addition, developing trust in service providers is important if such services to be successful.

Population ageing and its implications for older persons : an analysis of the perspectives of government and non government officials within the Department of Social Development sector

Samaad, Anita 26 September 2013 (has links)
The concept of population ageing is a development issue that has received much attention due to the demographic transition that is occurring globally, marked by declining levels of fertility and mortality. Therefore, the implications of population ageing for older persons within the context of Social Development was examined from the perspective of government and non government officials. The study was confined to older persons and the policies and programmes implemented by the Department of Social Development. The study employed an exploratory research design within a qualitative paradigm. Semi-structured interviews and a questionnaire were distributed to officials in the nine provinces. Thirty six questionnaires were received and qualitative methods of data analysis were used to analyse and interpret the data. The main finding of the study is that there is congruence in what government officials and the non government officials view as implications for older persons. Central to this is that the issue of ageing does not receive attention on the agenda of government. The top five priorities for older persons are healthy ageing, economic security, community/home based care services for older persons, having care and support systems for older persons and an improved quality of life/poverty alleviation. Based on the demographic determinants of population ageing, the findings are that there will be an increased demand for services for older persons which might place a strain on the social assistance and health care programmes. The issue of ageing was viewed positively as an opportunity by government officials and pessimistically as a challenge by NGO’s. The most common problems in old age is a reliance on the younger generation and or the state for their care and support, abuse, high levels of illiteracy and the burden of care for their children and grandchildren. The future older person is likely to be in better health and better educated than the older person of today if the necessary public investments are made now in these areas. The study makes recommendations for the adoption of a South African plan of action on ageing, inter-sectoral budgeting, development of specialised programmes, review of current policies and legislation for older persons, strengthening the partnership with the NGO sector and facilitating ageing mainstreaming within government programmes. / Sociology / M.A. (Social Development)

Minority Adult Survivors of Childhood Cancer: A Comparison of Long-Term Outcomes, Health Care Utilization, and Health-Related Behaviors From the Childhood Cancer Survivor Study

Castellino, Sharon M., Casillas, Jacqueline, Hudson, Melissa M., Mertens, Ann C., Whitton, John, Brooks, Sandra L., Zeltzer, Lonnie K., Ablin, Arthur, Castleberry, Robert, Hobbie, Wendy, Kaste, Sue, Robison, Leslie L., Oeffinger, Kevin C. 20 September 2005 (has links)
PURPOSE: To determine the influence of race/ethnicity on outcomes in the Childhood Cancer Survivor Study (CCSS). PATIENTS AND METHODS: Of CCSS adult survivors in the United States, 443 (4.9%) were black, 503 (5.6%) were Hispanic and 7,821 (86.6%) were white. Mean age at interview, 26.9 years (range, 18 to 48 years); mean follow-up, 17.2 years (range, 8.7 to 28.4 years). Late mortality, second malignancy (SMN) rates, health care utilization, and health status and behaviors were assessed for blacks and Hispanics and compared with white survivors. RESULTS: Late mortality rate (6.5%) and 15-year cumulative incidence of SMN (3.5%) were similar across racial/ethnic groups. Minority survivors were more likely to have lower socioeconomic status (SES); final models were adjusted for income, education, and health insurance. Although overall health status was similar, black survivors were less likely to report adverse mental health (females: odds ratio [OR], 0.6; 95% CI, 0.4 to 0.9; males: OR, 0.5; 95% CI, 0.3 to 0.8). Differences in health care utilization and behaviors noted: Hispanic survivors were more likely to report a cancer center visit (females: OR, 1.5; 95% CI, 1.1 to 2.0; males: OR, 1.7; 95% CI, 1.2 to 2.3); black females were more likely (OR, 1.6; 95% CI, 1.1 to 2.4), and Hispanic females less likely to have a recent Pap smear (OR, 0.7; 95% CI, 0.5 to 1.0); black and Hispanic survivors were less likely to report smoking; black survivors were less likely to report problem drinking. CONCLUSION: Adjusted for SES, adverse outcomes in CCSS were not associated with minority status. Importantly, black survivors reported less risky behaviors and better preventive practices. Hispanic survivors had equitable access to cancer related care.
