Söllvander, Johan, Höglund, Denny January 2016 (has links)

Video Quality Metric improvement using motion and spatial masking

Näkne, Henrik January 2016 (has links)
Objective video quality assessment is of great importance in video compression and other video processing applications. In today's encoders Peak Signal to Noise Ratio or Sum of Absolute Differences are often used, though these metrics have limited correlation to perceived quality. In this paper other block-based quality measures are evaluated with superior performance on compression distortion when evaluating correlation with Mean Opinion Scores. The major results are that Block-based Visual Information Fidelity with optical flow and intra-frame Gaussian weighting outperforms PSRN, VIF, and SSIM. Also, a block-based weighted Mean Squared Error method is proposed that performs better than PSRN and SSIM, however not VIF and BB-VIF, with the advantage of high locality, which is useful in video encoding. The previously mentioned weighting methods have not been evaluated with SSIM, which is proposed for further studies.

Document Separation in Digital Mailrooms

Joakim, Valberg January 2015 (has links)
The growing mail volumes for businesses worldwide is one reason why theyare increasingly turning to digital mailrooms. A digital mailroom automaticallymanages the incoming mails, and a vital technology to its success isdocument classication. A problem with digital mailrooms and the documentclassication is separating the input stream of pages into documents. This thesis investigates existing classication theory and applies it to createan algorithm which solves the document separation problem. This algorithmis evaluated and compared against an existing algorithmic solution, over adataset containing real invoices.

Wendt, Michael, Kadar Rosengren, Robin January 2016 (has links)

Stencil Study for RBF-FD in Option Pricing

Eriksson, Robin January 2016 (has links)
This thesis contains results on convergence studies for different stencils of radial basis function generated finite difference (RBF-FD) method applied to solving Black-Scholes equation for pricing European call options. The results experimentally confirm the theoretical convergence rates for smooth payoff functions with stencils of size 3, 5 and 7 in one- dimensional problems, and 9, 13 and 25 in two- dimensional problems. Moreover, it is shown how different terms in the equation can be approximated individually using the proposed method and then combined into a discrete approximation of the entire spatial differential operator. This new version of the RBF-FD method, where each term has been approximated individually, has been compared to the classical method and the outcome did not show any significant performance advantages. Nevertheless, the results also showed that the second order derivative was the hardest one to approximate accurately and this poses an important finding for the future development of the method.

Automated GUI regression tests via remote desktop with Robot Framework and Sikuli

Ludovici, Michelle January 2014 (has links)
To test software over a remote desktop is an increasingly common practice since outsourcing and offshoring of testing activities are on the rise. Most companies useproprietary testing tools which require an agent to be installed on the remote machine. This installation opens several attack surfaces and has thus the potential to compromise security. In addition license, support and other proprietary test tool costs might reduce the return on investment of automated tests to an unprofitable level, especially for relatively short projects.Robot Framework with Sikuli integration (RFSI) is a concept based on two open source tools which offer solutions concerning the security and cost issues. RFSI based tests do not need any further installations, access rights or network configurations on the remote machine, because of the fact that the tests are based on visual input. Therefore tests with RFSI cannot access the AUT (Application Under Test) or the remote machine in any other way than a manual tester could. Open-source tools, being freely available, also escape the problem of licence costs. The purpose of the proof of concept pilot study wasto give an answer on the question if RFSI can furthermore be considered an alternative to proprietary tools in terms of requirements for tool quality characteristics and for the external context of test automation projects. The methodology of this research followed the broader Goal-Question-Metrics method(GQM) described by Rini van Solingen and Egon Berghout, based on the GQM approachby Victor Basili and David Weiss. The requirements and metrics for the evaluation of RFSI in the study were selected through a literature study of ISO/IEC-TR9126-3 and other articles in the field. They comprehend six categories: functionality, reliability, maintainability and stability, efficiency, understandability and portability. For each category, metrics were established and adapted to the context of the proof of concept. The scope of the project was given by six use cases and test specifications, established in cooperation with system experts at the company CGI Sundsvall. These were then translated into RFSI test scripts and implemented with the requirements for successful remote GUI testing in mind. The results of the measurements for the proof of concept study showed that RFSI fulfilles the internal and external requirements for successful automated testing completely for functionality, understandability and portability. The requirements are partially satisfiedfor reliability, maintainability and stability, and efficiency. In conclusion, RFSI satisfies enough requirements to be considered a viable alternative to commercial testing tools for tests of GUI (Graphical User Interface) desktop applications over a remote desktop.

Investigation of a troubleshooting procedure : By assessing fault tracing algorithms

Lorentzon, Lukas January 2014 (has links)
The thesis delves into the area of troubleshooting procedures, an interesting areafor industry. Many products in industry tend to be complex, which in turn makestroubleshooting procedures trickier. A fast and efficient repair process is oftendesired, since customers want the product to be repaired as fast as possible. The purpose of a troubleshooting procedure is to find a fault in a broken product, and to choose proper repair actions in a workshop. Such a procedure can besimplified by diagnosis tools, for example software programs that make faultconclusions based on fault codes. These tools can make such conclusions withthe help of algorithms, i.e. fault tracing algorithms. Before a product release, it is hard to specify all faults and connections in the system.New unknown fault cases are likely to arise after release, and somehow thisneed to be taken into account in the troubleshooting scenario. The troubleshootingprocedure can be made more robust, if new data could be easily incorporatedin the current structure. This work seek to answer how new data can be incorporatedin trouble shooting procedures. A good and reliable fault tracing algorithm is essential in the process of findingfaults and repair actions, which is the reason behind the focus of this thesis. Thepresented problem asks how a fault can be identified from fault codes and symptoms,in order to recommend suitable repair actions. Therefore, the problem isdivided into two parts, finding the fault and recommending repair actions. Inthe first part, three candidate algorithms for finding the faults are investigated, namely Bayesian networks, neural networks, and a method called matrix correlationinspired from latent semantic indexing. The investigation is done by trainingeach algorithm with data, and evaluating the results. The second part consists ofone method proposal for repair action recommendations and one example. Thetheoretical investigation is based on the Servo unit steering (SUS), which residein the IPS system of Volvo Penta. The primary contribution of the thesis is the evaluation of three different algorithmsand a proposal of one strategy to recommend suitable repair actions. In this study Bayesian networks are found to conform well with the desired attributes, which in turn lead to the conclusion that Bayesian networks is well suited for this problem.

Inloggning på trådlöst nätverk vid Umeå Stadsbibliotek / Login authentication for users and guests at Umeå City Library

Eriksson, John January 2015 (has links)
The goal of this project is to present a solution for the wireless network at the city library in Umeå. The new system will allow users to log on to the wireless network using their library card along with a password of some kind. There must also be a way for guests without library cards to be allowed access to the network in some way. The result of this project was based on hardware that Umeå already had access to, and certain functions in that hardware that hasn’t been explored earlier and offered a lot of potential. This solution was tested to some extent and could be implemented in a near future.

Testing and Tuning of Optimization Algorithms : On the implementation of Radiotherapy

Söderström, Ola January 2015 (has links)
When treating cancer patients using radiotherapy, careful planning is essential to ensure that the tumour region is treated while surrounding healthy tissue is not injured in the process. The radiation dose in the tumour along with the dose limitations to healthy tissue can be expressed as a constrained optimization problem. The goal of this project has been to create prototype environments in C++ for both testing and parameter tuning of optimization algorithms intended to solve radiotherapy problems. A library of test problems has been implemented on which the optimization algorithms can be tested. For the sake of simplicity, the problem solving and parameter tuning has only been carried out with the interior point solver IPOPT. The results of a parameter tuning process are displayed in tables where the effect of the tuning can be analysed. By using the implemented parameter tuning process, some settings have been found that are better than the default values when solving the implemented test problems.
