[EN] ARCHITECTURAL AND CONSTRUCTION OF ROOFING POLYCHROME WOODEN ANALYSIS OF THE CHURCH OF SAN ANTONIO ABAD DE VALENCIA, SURVIVAL OF ARCHITECTURE AS TARDOGÓTICA VALENCIA MEDITERRANEAN FIFTEENTH CENTURY Author of the thesis: Pedro Rafael Blanco Gómez DIRECTOR OF THE THESIS: Dr. D Javier Benlloch Marco ABSTRACT The object of this thesis is the study of Gothic Mudejar roof of the church of San Antonio Abad in Valencia, located on the street 188 Sagunto Valencia. The deepening of the building and the persistence of the ceiling, studying the characteristics of the construction materials and execution techniques, determining what has been its evolution, behavior and the factors set disorderly. And the disclosure of this almost unknown heritage to its value. In the environment of the medieval walls that protected the city of Valencia scattered farmsteads and hamlets with their small churches they stood. The Hospital Brotherhood of San Antonio Abad was a religious order dedicated to the care of the sick was instituted in Mota, Dauphine near Vienne in 1095 by Gaston noble dolphins. In 1228 the order was authorized by Pope Honorius III, giving Bonifacio III Rule of St. Augustine, leading by distinguishing the "tau" or cross of San Antonio. The arrival of these religious to the kingdom of Valencia is unknown. In 1238, James I seized the city of Valencia, geographically constituting the new kingdom in 1245. In 1333 acquired by purchase some land in the path of Murviedro, in the village of Els Orriols. The Gothic hospital began construction in 1409, estimated that the works were finished in 1446, being viceroy of Valencia Maria of Castile and King of the Crown of Aragon Alfonso V the Magnanimous, their coats of arms appearing in the colors of the roof. In the hospital sought by the Jurats unification of the City of Valencia Anthony's church they fitted out as to meet Els Orriols. The original Gothic church was a single ship of diaphragm arches and polychrome wooden roof clear Mudejar invoice. Between 1765 and 1768 the masking medieval structures was made in neoclassical style, as in almost all the old churches in Valencia, including the Cathedral. It is a marvel of technical skill which consiguiesen so admirably adapted both buildings, and maintaining the same cover until 1987. Evaluation of Travel Time Estimates Derived From Automatic Vehicle Identification Tags in San Antonio, TX

Riley, John D. 17 July 1999 (has links)
The purpose of this research is to examine several aspects of the San Antonio automated vehicle identification (AVI) system, including the reliability and accuracy of the AVI system, travel tag level of market penetration (LMP) trends, and a comparison of aggregated travel time values with probe vehicle travel time values. This thesis serves as a first step toward the modeling of AVI systems in which the effects of travel tag LMP, AVI reader density and AVI reader location are analyzed. GPS units were first tested as a suitable benchmark for validating AVI reliability and accuracy. A two-part system reliability study was then performed, consisting of overall system reliability and a controlled evaluation of selected AVI reader sites. The accuracy of AVI travel times was also assessed. A LMP analysis was then performed to serve as a reference parameter for the aggregate travel time study. Lastly, the level of aggregation analysis attempted to quantify differences between the individual test vehicle travel times and aggregated travel times of all observed, tag-equipped vehicles. Overall system reliability was found to be greater than 90%. The controlled reliability study showed that freeway AVI readers slightly outperformed arterial readers for correct tag capture, while total tag capture exceeded the system design parameter of 80%. Tag capture rates were found to be independent of test vehicle speed. The LMP of travel tags at a selected reader site was found to be approximately 0.5% from the morning through the evening peak. Lastly, 5-minute travel time aggregations provided a better estimate of individual test vehicle travel times than 2-minute or 15-minute aggregations. / Master of Science

Who Leaves and Why: an Examination of Latino Student Attrition from a Selective Public School Thematic Choice Program in San Antonio, Texas

Thomas, Kathryn, 1948- 12 1900 (has links)
This study was conducted to examine the problem of attrition from a public middle school foreign language enrichment program by students who were admitted on the basis of superior grades, test scores, and recommendations from their teachers, counselors, and parents. The study took place in inner-city San Antonio and involves Latino sixth and seventh graders from mostly low-income families. Literature pertaining to school choice options, education of Latino students, and student attrition was reviewed. Research questions pertained to the differences in characteristics of students staying in the program and leaving it and in the reasons students gave for their decisions to stay or leave. In addition, the efficacy of an existing student attrition model, modified for this study, was tested for organizing data. Data sources included surveys of students and teachers, interviews with administrators and counselors, and school records. Logit regression analysis revealed two factors linked to student persistence in the program to be significant to the .01 level: student involvement in the initial decision to apply to the program, and the presence of a student's best friend at the school the student attended. A third variable approached significance (at the . 10 level): the student's score on the math subtest of a criterion-referenced test given statewide. Recommendations to the district program administrators include incorporating the math subtest score on the statewide instrument into the screening process and providing more and better information to parents and students who are eligible and wish to apply for acceptance into the program.

Quinteto Armorial: timbre, heráldica e música / Quinteto Armorial: timbre, heraldry and music

Andrade, Francisco 19 September 2017 (has links)
This research is about the music and trajectory of Quinteto Armorial, and its starting point was hearing the group\'s four LPs - Do Romance ao Galope Nordestino (1974), Aralume (1976), Quinteto Armorial (1978) and Sete Flechas (1980), produced by Discos Marcus Pereira (1974-1981). The instrumental music group was created by the professor and writer Ariano Suassuna within the Armorial Movement and inside the Federal University of Pernambuco. It was born with the intention of creating a Brazilian classical music from popular culture roots, choosing the timbres of a heraldic of the people as the guiding material of its compositional process, translated by the direction and sensitivity of Antonio Madureira with the young musicians in the group. This research was developed from the combination of History and Music and organized into three parts, articulated by three basic axes - timbre, heraldic and music. It exhibits the trajectory and creation process of Quinteto Armorial as a part of the philosophical conception of Ariano Suassuna, reflecting its correspondence with the multiple guiding aesthetic trends of musical creation in the twentieth century through its proposition of a cultural bond transcending the canons which used to define music as \"classical\" or \"popular\".
