Komiks jako médium uměleckého sdělení / Comics as the medium of the artistic expression

The dissertation (diploma thesis) with the topic "Comics as the medium of the artistic expression" consists of theoretical and practical parts. The theoretical part represents a definition of the comics, its short history and some important terms of the comics terminology. Next this part concerns with specific narrative constructions of the comics medium and also describes functions and cooperation of the visual and verbal components. In the individual charter is shortly described Japanese comics (manga), its characteristic and different aspects against the classic European and American comics. The end of the theoretical part is dedicated to the theory of the artistic expression and its particular elements, which are used in the comics. The practical part comprising the analysis of two classic comics works and one Japanese manga. Namely it is The Crow, The Crow: Skinnig the Wolves and The City of Light. These works were chosen intentionally because of their technical, thematic and cultural aspects, so the analysis can work with the wider scale of the artistic elements. The dissertation tries to defend the opinion, that the comics medium is multifunctional, it can contain full-blown artistic expression and it is able to work with any content. The aim of the diploma work is the identification of the common as well as the different aspects of children's drawings from both the artistic and developmental perspective. The goal of this thesis is to assemblele a record sheet on theoretical and empirical knowledge, which could also serve as a guide for kindergarten teachers when handling children's drawing. The theoretical part is split into two chapters: the development of personality of a preschool child, where the developmental stages from prenatal to preschool age are described; and children's drawing describing the progression, characteristic features, most common motifs and their possible utilisation in practice. The empirical part deals with qualitative research of preschool children focusing on analysis and comparison of children's drawing. An important part of the thesis is the record sheet, which is included in the empirical part.

“Shout to the people the reality, and they dance it!” : A case study on the synergies and challenges between music, youth empowerment, sustainable development and social change in the Gambia

This case study examines the role of music and music-making for the youth in Brikama, the Gambia in terms of freedom of expression, sustainable development and social change. The study is situated within a project where young musicians with different backgrounds wrote and recorded their own songs during workshops with established musicians. The data was collected via interviews with the participants and instructors, observations and song analysis. The study uses Small’s (1998) theory of musicking to analyze the meaning of the musical events in the social context. Furthermore, it uses theories on the relationship between music and sustainability to analyze the role of music for the youth on an individual-, group- and societal level, but also on an organizational level. The study finds that on all four levels music and music-making holds many of the characteristics required for sustainable development and that it can foster resilience through creativity. However, it also shows that this requires the creation of inclusive spaces with an awareness of the cultural narrative and forces (such as limiting traditional values and gender issues) that might limit the capabilities of individuals, and the society, to reap these benefits. The study also shows how music, with its artistic characteristics, can offer pockets of freedom of expression to a certain but limited extent. Finally, the study shows how music can and should be incorporated more extensively by organizations working for sustainable development and social change, both as a tool to achieve other sustainability agendas, but also for the inherent characteristics of resilience and creativity that is found in music-making itself. / Denna fallstudie undersöker musik och musikskapandets roll för ungdomar i Brikama, Gambia, och dess relation till yttrandefrihet, hållbar utveckling och social förändring. Studien är genomförd inom ramen för ett projekt där unga musiker med olika bakgrund komponerade och spelade in sina egna låtar under workshops tillsammans med etablerade musiker. Materialet samlades in genom intervjuer med deltagarna och instruktörer, observationer och textanalys av låtarna. Studien använder sig av Smalls (1998) koncept musicking för att analysera den musikaliska situationens mening i sin sociala kontext. Dessutom används teorier om relationen mellan musik och hållbarhet för att analysera musikens roll för ungdomarna på en individuell-, grupp- och samhällsnivå, men även på en organisationsnivå. Studien visar på alla fyra nivåer att musik och musikskapande innehar många av de karaktärsdrag som krävs för hållbar utveckling och att det kan främja resiliens genom kreativitet. Dock visar studien att inkluderande sammanhang behöver skapas med medvetenhet om den kulturella kontexten. Detta för att kunna navigera de krafter (såsom negativa traditionella värderingar kring genus) som kan begränsa individers deltagande och i slutändan samhällets möjlighet att ta del av fördelarna. Studien visar också hur musik, med sina konstärliga karaktärsdrag, kan erbjuda ett visst utrymme för yttrandefrihet. Slutligen visar studien hur musik kan och bör inkorporeras till större grad av organisationer som arbetar för hållbar utveckling och social förändring, både som ett verktyg för att uppnå hållbarhetsagendor, men även för de inneboende karaktärsdragen resiliens och kreativitet som finns att hitta i själva musikskapandet.

Esta pesquisa analisa a expressão artística dos alunos de uma escola Waldorf da cidade de São Paulo SP Brasil, com o objetivo de compreender a estreita ligação entre arte e sensibilidade que se apresenta enquanto caminho para a harmonização da alma humana e a contribuição da arte para o desenvolvimento da razão, da intuição, da emoção e do sentimento. Isto pode ser comprovado pela produção elaborada pelos alunos, interpretada e compreendida a partir das atividades especificas do cotidiano escolar com o aporte teórico de autores que buscam entender o ser humano através do equilíbrio entre sensibilidade e razão. A pesquisa apóia-se teoricamente na Antroposofia de Rudolf Steiner para o estudo da utilização pedagógica da arte; na cosmovisão cientifica e artística de Johann Wolfgang Goethe e na sua Doutrina das Cores; n A Educação Estética do Homem de Friedrich Schiller; na Psicologia Analítica de Carl Gustav Jung; na transformação alquímica através da imaginação ativa utilizada por Jung. O referencial teórico dos autores transita no eixo existente entre o consciente e o inconsciente, entre a razão e a sensibilidade, entre o sensível e o inteligível. A contribuição final é a reflexão sobre a utilização prática dos procedimentos artísticos e sua influência sobre o desenvolvimento cognitivo e a aquisição de conhecimento que conduz ao equilíbrio entre razão e sensibilidade. / This research analyses the artistic expression of students in a Waldorf school at the city of São Paulo SP Brazil, in order to comprehend the close connection between art and sensitivity that shows itself as a path to develop reason, intuition, emotion and feeling. This can be proof by the production elaborated by the students, interpreted and comprehended from the specific everyday school activities with the theory support of Rudolf Steiners Anthroposophy for the study of the pedagogical utilization of art; in the scientific and artistic cosmovision of Johann Wolfgang Goethe and his Doctrine of Colors; in the Aesthetic Education of Man of Friedrich Schiller; in the analytical psychology of Carl Gustav Jung; in the alchemy transformation by means of active imagination used by Jung. The theoretical references of the authors circulate in the axis existent between conscious and unconscious, between reason and sensitivity, between the sensitive and the intelligible. The final contribution is the reflection about practical utilization of artistic procedures and their influences on cognitive development and the knowledge acquirement that leads to balance between reason and sensitivity.

This thesis deals with artworks of early school-age children attending primary schools at present. It is focused on ontogenetic model of art expression according to Victor Lowenfeld and artwork of early school-age children. The work is divided into theoretical and practical part. The theoretical part is dedicated to ontogenesis of children's artistic expression according to C. Brunt, G. H. Luquet and especially V. Lowenfeld. There are also findings about development of related parts of personality (cognitive, emotional, social) with particular focus on early school age. The practical part deals with formal artwork analysis of pupils from the first to the sixth grade of primary school. This artistic creation is compared with ontogenetic model by V. Lowenfeld and the aim of this work is to find out whether the artistic expression of younger pupils corresponds with ontogenetic model described by V. Lowenfeld.

The first reason for this behaviour that disesteems artistic freedom is the valorisation of rationalism and scientificism in the modern society, subordinating academic researches to utilitarianism, relegating the purpose of feelings and spirituality on men s elocution, therefore, we investigate, guided by philosophy, the attribution of art on human formation, due to its capacity in harmonising reason and emotion. After that, we affirm the fundamental right to artistic expression s autonomy in the 1988 valid constitutional order, after a comparative explanation of freedom in the Fundamental Laws of United States, Portugal, Spain and Germany; and the construction historic-constitutional of the same right in the Brazilian Constitutions. In this desiderate, the theoric mark chosen is the Liberal Theory of the fundamental rights, guiding the exam through jusfundamental dimensions: juridical-subjective and juridical-objective. Whilst the first, classical function of resistance, delimitates the protection area of the artistic expression right from its specific content, titularity and its constitutional and subconstitutional limits, the other one establishes it as cultural good of the Social Order, defining to the State its rendering duties of protection, formation and cultural promotion. We do not admit artistic communication, granted without legal reserve, to be transposed of restrictions that belong to other fundamental rights and, when its exercise collides with another fundamental right or juridical-constitutional good, the justification to a possible state intervention that tangentiates its protection area goes, necessarily, through the perquisition of the artist s animus, the used method, the many viable interpretations and, at last, the correct application of the proportionality criteria. The cultural public politics analysis, nevertheless, observes the pluralism principle of democratic substratum, developer of the cultural dialogue and opposed to patterns determined by the mass cultural industry. All powers are attached, on the scope of its typical attributions, to materialise public politics that have the cultural artistic good as its aim, due to the constant rule contained in ?1, art. 5? of the Federal Constitution. However, the access and the incentive laws to culture must be constantly supervised by the constitutional parameter of fundamental right to equality / O direito ? express?o art?stica, liberdade consagrada no constitucionalismo democr?tico ocidental, ? um direito fundamental que conjunturalmente, em rela??o aos outros direitos conexos da express?o, vem sendo olvidado, disposto em posi??o de irrelev?ncia jur?dico-dogm?tica.
