De pré-textes en prétextes : Le cinéma d'Arturo Ripstein / From pre-texts to pretexts : The cinema of Arturo Ripstein

Fortin, Maria 12 November 2015 (has links)
This research explores Arturo Ripstein's cinema, and focuses more particularly on a corpus of films which are all based on pre-existent works. The notion of "pre-text" refers to the latter, whose originsare in most cases leterary, but also cinematographic. The analysis of Ripstein's reworking saims at highlighting the pretext hiding behind the use of the pre-text. In other words, for each of the eight selected movies, we try to reveal the message the artist wished to convey, or the underlying intention of the creative act. The local/global dialectic is present throughout the whole thesis. It is first visible in its structure, given that our work takes as its starting point Mexican pre-texts, then examines Third World productions, and finally the pre-texts originating in European culture. But this dialectic is also illustrated, in the different parts of our work, through the phenomena of intertextuality or interfilmicity, and the strategies of production give Ripstein's cinema a transnational dimension.

Leopoldo Zea, Arturo Ardao e João Cruz Costa: história das ideias, discursos identitários e conexões intelectuais / Leopoldo Zea, Arturo Ardao and João Cruz Costa: history of Ideas, discourses of identity and intellectual networks

Santos, Luciano dos 17 October 2016 (has links)
This dissertation analyzes thewritings of the Mexican Leopoldo Zea, the Uruguayan Arturo Ardao and the Brazilian João Cruz Costa to understand theirmultiple intellectual relations.Looking at their lives and especially at their texts, from 1930s to 1970s, we identifiedconnections and proposed comparisons. The main sources of this research are their books and articles; but also memorandums, lists of recommendations, resolutions, autobiographical texts, interviews, prefaces, book reviews and mailing. Our analysis takes a diachronic and synchronic perspective, seeking to capture the changes and continuities as well as the similarities and specificities. Therefore, it was possible to notice differences in their using of words, sources, themes and theoretical-philosophical concepts, but alsoto perceive theiraffinitiesthat formed a strongintellectual network. The idea of a Latin Americanphilosophy was implicit in almost all their texts. They build an interpretation of history that gave shape to discourses of national and/or Latin Americanidentities.

Arturo Alessandri and the Chilean presidential elections of 1920

Jones, Sally Ann 01 June 1968 (has links)
After rising to a position of political and economic importance among the Latin American republics of the nineteenth century, Chile lost that leadership in the early 1900’s, much to the consternation of her leading statesmen and intellectuals. The economic dislocation following World War I exacerbated the already serious social conditions, while at the same the traditionally passive lower classes started to demand a voice in the management of their own affairs. The existing governmental system had proved itself powerless to solve the pressing problems facing the country at every turn. Chile desperately needed new leadership; the time was perfect for the emergence of a modern-style caudillo. As early as 1918, Arturo Alessandri was prominently mentioned as a likely candidate for the Presidency. He had established his charismatic qualities and his political prowess in his 1915 campaign for the Senate seat for Tarapacá, and in the short span of four years he became the “popular” choice for the highest office. Alessandri won nomination as the candidate of the Liberal Alliance coalition in 1920, and he was elected President by such a slim margin that the contest had to be decided by a Tribunal of Honor. His triumph made him Chile’s first middle-class chief executive—a victory for the middle sectors that voted for him and the lower classes that threatened revolution if he were denied the office. The magnitude of his win must be qualified, however, for the oligarchy was aware that without control of Congress Alessandri would be unable to effect even moderate reforms. He had promised to right all the things were so wrong in Chile but such promises were not to be fulfilled.

Simonoff, Alejandro César January 2006 (has links) (PDF)

Rest Box

Carrillo, Limarny, Aguilera, Sandro 04 1900 (has links)

This research was carried out to analyze the six novels of the series El capitán Alatriste (1996- 2006), by the Spanish writer Arturo Pérez-Reverte, to prove the thesis that the rewriting of the Spanish 19th century organized by the series claims at spreading an “objective and true” knowledge of history, by means of a monological vision of historical facts turned into fiction, thus reaffirming the presuppositions of classical historical narrative. Therefore, our analysis is based on the investigation of the formal hybridism which is formed by means of the simultaneous exploitation of genres, such as the historical narrative, memoirs, the didactic novel, the picaresque novel and the serial novel whose paradigm is provided by Alexandre Dumas’ works. In the analysis of serial rewriting, we made use of Umberto Eco’s theorizations (1964 and 1978) about mass literature, trying to prove that narratives takes on recurrent forms, in which one may find out homologies between the narrative structures, the plot and the author’s ideological propositions. In the examination of the narrative procedures, among other features we analyzed the characteristics of the character-narrator, who acts as an authorized interpreter of the historical events turned into fiction, to the extent that he also takes the shape of a spokesman of value system confirmed in the novels. In that case, we proved that the revisiting of the Spanish history proposed in novels tends to exalt the heroic dimensions of the Spanish imperial history.
