The Effect of Scholarship Support, Gender, and Sport Type on Retention of Collegiate Student-Athletes

Webster, Carrie Lennon 01 January 2007 (has links)
The purpose of this investigation was to determine what factors contribute to student-athlete retention, specifically looking at scholarship support, gender, and sport type (individual or team sport). Eight Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) schools provided data on all student-athletes participating from the 200 1-02 through the 2004-05 academic years. The investigator collected data on site at each institution (University of Delaware, Drexel University, Georgia State University, James Madison University, University of North Carolina-Wilmington, Old Dominion University, Virginia Commonwealth University, and the College of William and Mary) and obtained on each student-athlete including year, sport, gender, amount of scholarship support (both athletic and other), total cost of tuition, and retention status.Using analysis of variance (ANOVA), discriminant function analysis, and binary logistic regression, the data were analyzed in regard what type of relationship the independent variables (scholarship support as a percentage of tuition, gender and sport type) have with the dependent variable, retention. Of the nearly 13,000 observations, 12,027 were retained (92.7%) and 953 were not retained (7.3%). Analyses revealed that scholarship support alone was not significantly related to retention, but that gender and sport type were both significant predictors of retention, with women and individual sport athletes being retained at a higher rate than their male and team sport counterparts. Additionally, the combination of scholarship support, gender and sport type resulted in a predictive model of student-athlete retention.Of the 953 non-retained observations, 609 were male and 344 were female, and 338 competed in an individual sport while 61 5 were team sport athletes. Chi-Square Goodness of Fit tests revealed that there were more males and fewer females who were not retained than would be expected, and that there were more team sport athletes and fewer individual sport athletes not retained than would be expected (Chi-square = 5 1.058, df = 1). The findings suggest that further research be conducted on student-athletes as an individual population in regard to retention.

Loosely Bound

Martin, Alexander 01 January 2016 (has links)
I take a poetic approach to graphic design practice. It is a subjectivist approach, which recognizes our human right to willful interpretation. Designers navigate form, culture, and history like poets through language. We are subjective, exploratory engines drawing formal inspiration from figural and analogical associations. Subjectivity in graphic design practice is complex, however. Subjectivity privileges the interaction between object and individual. When we designers interpret the literal world with the poet’s omni-directional sensitivity, we intentionally and intuitively create objects that accrete inexhaustible, extra-literal value for their audience.

Odborová organizace jako právnická osoba / Trade unions as a legal entity

Bartoš, Přemysl January 2015 (has links)
anglicky This thesis analyzes position of trade unions as legal entities, i.e. trying to describe the features of a trade union as a legal entity and its position in the legal system. Study of trade unions from this point of view hasn't been explored too much, trade unions are traditionally seen through their functions as a subject of the social dialogue, yet the basic question of what a trade union actually is in terms of the type of legal entity, is not clear. Qualification of trade union as a legal entity is based on several aspects, each of whom is dedicated to one part of this work. The first chapter deals with definition of collective labor law, which is closely linked with a term trade union. Next part is relatively extensive historical excursion, which allows a better understanding of roots of the current understanding of this topic. Another important aspect of the legal regulation are international instruments, which protect the right of association and concretize particular aspects of this area. This protection is also reflected in the constitution of the Czech Republic. Recently new Civil Code, which has become a key standard for the regulation of trade union organizations, came into force and it is very important to understand the legislative process of this act in which delegates of...

Společenství vlastníků jednotek jako subjekt práva / Unit owners association as a subject of law

Vrobel, Rostislav January 2014 (has links)
The purpose of my thesis is to describe unit owners association as a subject of law in the Czech Republic. It focuses on analysis of the most significant problems of the current legal regulation in the Act No. 72/1994 Coll., on apartment ownership. It also concurrently reflects the legislation in the new civil code, in which is the apartment ownership incorporated. The subject of thesis was selected because of its actuality in the professional literature and in the daily life. The issue of the unit owners association affects more and more inhabitants because of its mandatory membership and increasing amount of apartment owners. This dissertation consists of six individual chapters. Each chapter looks at the basic principles of the unit owners association and contains subchapter reflecting legal regulation in the new civil code. The first chapter concentrates on the legal regulation of the unit owners association. It looks at the most significant changes in the apartment ownership legislation, which have constituted unit owners association as a legal person. It also includes basic analysis and classification of amendment to apartment owners legislation in the new civil code. The second chapter looks at the legal status of unit owners association. It describes its characteristics as a person of law,...

La déontologie des avocats : l'exemple des barreaux du Sud-Est (1870-1972) / Legal ethics of the lawyers : the example of the Bars of the South-East of France ( 1810-1972)

Latella, Yamina 28 January 2013 (has links)
Legal ethics have always been an essential part of legal business. Made up of a set of rules, some of which are merely customary rules, legal ethics lead the lawyer to be more than an aid of the justice. One usually notice the common, very ancient and general agreement of all french Bars on some principles, behaviour partly dictated by the powerful Bar of Paris. However, it’s also true that other Bars, in particular those of the South-East of France from Marseille to Nice, have always shown a real independence in the application of such principles, liking better the spirit of these rules than their letter. Regarding the search for customers and the wrestling against business networks, the positions of these bars is unarguably brave. The solution they give to the delicate problem of the fees of the lawyer are innovative. The Bars’ Councils, mainly in the South-East of the France, besides being organs of penalty for their profession, are especially organs of reflexion ans council. Those depending of the competence of the Court of Appeal of Aix-en-Provence, carry out the duty to defend the traditions and consider moderation as virtue.

Contre-pouvoir, Technicité et action associative : fonctionnements et engagements associatifs au sein d'organisations de défense des consommateurs en France et au Chili / Forces of opposition, technicality, and associative action : mechanisms and associative commitments in consumer organisations in France and in Chili

Morales La Mura, Quidora 15 October 2012 (has links)
This research questions the mechanisms and the form of associative commitment in consumer organisations in Valparaíso (Chile) and in Moselle (France). The point is to understand how the complex connexion between the will to form forces of opposition and the need to technicize their action so much that it pushes to professionalization acts on the commitment in institutionalized organisations. Thus, this study is at the meeting point of organizational studies, industrial sociology and the sociological studies of social movements.

Porovnání právní úpravy ochrany práv členů bytového družstva a společenství vlastníků jednotek / Comparison of the Legal Protection of Rights of Shareholders in Housing Cooperatives and Owners in Homeowner Association

Matoušková, Jana January 2012 (has links)
The legal orders of almost all countries strive to create suitable conditions to ensure basic human need of housing. The aim of this work is to provide analysis and comparison of the protection of rights of members of housing cooperatives and owners in the homeowner asscoiation, both in relation to members of those bodies mutually and among members and the entity. At the beginning I briefly deal with the historical development of the legislation of both institutes, which shows the long tradition of co-operatives in the Czech Republic in comparison with modern regulation of homeowner associations. Subsequently I studied their legal status under current law. The main part of this thesis is contained in Chapter III which provides an overview and analysis of basic rights and their protection. Namely, Section 2 of the same chapter concerns with the rights associated with the creation and termination of membership in the legal entity, where the basic difference is that membership in the housing cooperative is voluntary, while in the homeowner association it is established by law. The issue of transfers of cooperative apartments to private ownership of former cooperative members is outlined. Section 3 is devoted to the method of forming entities will, therefore, the manner of appointment and...
