Models For Estimating Construction Duration: An Application For Selected Buildings On The Metu Campus

The duration of construction of a project depends on many factors, such as: cost, location, site characteristics, procurement methods, area of construction, footprint of the building and its height, etc. It is very important to be able to predict these durations accurately in order to successfully complete a project on time. Various construction duration estimation tools have been developed to make accurate predictions, as &ldquo / time is money.&rdquo / The main objective of this study was to develop a model that can be used to predict the construction duration of a project in a reliable and practical way. Contractors can thus use a project&#039 / s characteristics, as given in the tender documents, to estimate the actual amount time it would take them to complete the construction works. In this study, factors affecting the duration of a construction project and models for estimating construction durations were investigated. Within this framework, duration estimation models such as / Bromilow&rsquo / s Time-Cost (BTC) Model and Building Cost Information Service (BCIS) Model were used while Simple Linear Regression (SLR) and Multiple Linear Regression (MLR) analyses were conducted on data related to seven case study buildings that are situated at the Middle East Technical University (METU) campus in Ankara. This data was obtained from the Department of Construction and Technical Works (DCTW) at METU. The closeness in estimation of the regression analyses was investigated and finally an MLR model was obtained which was based on two parameters / the area of the building and the area of its fa&ccedil / ade. On the other hand, as opposed to studies reported in literature, the effect of cost on duration was not seen to be significant.

This thesis analyses Turkey&rsquo / s energy policies and Turkey&rsquo / s foreign relations through the energy issues in the Eurasian region. In the first phase, the energy policies implemented by the state and free market orientation in Turkish energy sector will be discussed. The impacts of neo-liberal economic policies, regional organizations (the European Union and OECD), and global finance institutions (International Monetary Fund &ndash / the IMF and the World Bank &ndash / WB) on Turkish energy sub-sectors, particularly since the beginning of the 1980s, will be examined. In the second phase, Turkey&rsquo / s own autonomy and effectiveness within major energy pipeline projects in the Eurasian energy axis will be questioned in the post-Cold War period. Turkey&rsquo / s relations in the energy issues with the European Union, Middle East, Caucasus and Turkic States, Russia and the United States (US) will be discussed. Basic vulnerabilities in Turkish energy sector and possible acquisitions of Turkey through its international energy deals will be emphasized.

La présente étude est consacrée à la politique étrangère de l'Azerbaïdjan entre grandes puissances et puissances régionales. Ce pays du Caucase du Sud accédant à l'indépendance en 1991 affirme sa singularité, entre confrontation et coopération avec ses voisins proches ou lointains. La question centrale est donc de savoir comment l'Azerbaïdjan peut justifier et éventuellement renforcer sa présence sur l'échiquier international alors qu'il se trouve au cœur des grands enjeux géopolitiques et économiques. Sa position le place au centre des rivalités entre des puissances telles que la Russie, l'Iran et la Turquie et, au-delà de son voisinage immédiat les États-Unis et l'Union européenne. Le pays est contraint à une politique étrangère équilibrée afin de ne pas s'aliéner les partenaires de l'ouest comme de l'est. Il tente également de tirer profit de l'exploitation des hydrocarbures de la Caspienne en vue de résoudre la question cruciale du conflit du Haut-Karabakh. / This thesis deals with the Azerbaijan policy between great powers and regional powers. Since its independence in 1991 the country of South Caucasus asserted its singularity. It sometimes confronts, sometimes cooperates with its neighbors. The key question is, therefore, how Azerbaijan can justify and possibly strengthen its presence on the international stage as it stands at the heart of great geopolitical and economic issues. Because of its location it is the center of rivalries between powers such as Russia, Iran and Turkey or the United States and the European Union. The country is compelled to a balanced foreign policy not to lose the support of either western or eastern partners. Baku also attempts to use the exploitation of Caspian oil in order resolve the crucial issue of the conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh.

Further development of Sand Bed Burner / Vidareutveckling av Sandbäddsbrännare

To determine whether a weapon system meets the requirements set for insensitivity, the system is getting exposed for special tests. One of these tests shows how the system reacts when it ends up in a fire. This test is called the "Fast Cook-Off (FCO) Test", called FCO-test, and performed with a Sand Bed Burner (SBB). According to primary testing provision, the fuel for this test is used of jet fuel such as Jet A-1. A project at Bofors Test Center (BTC) is in progress to use an alternative fuel of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG). This fuel is very advantageous compared to jet fuel in terms of environmental impact, work environment and testing costs. The aim of this thesis is to improve the existing test equipment considering fire over the entire surface and solve the problems with dropped gas flow and freezing of gas bottles. SBB works in the sense that the new petrol LPG streams into the SBB and expands in the free space below the sand bed before the gas will diffuse through the bed of sand and the fire engulfs the object. LPG is a condensable gas that requires oxygen. LPG exceed from liquid to gas phase and needs a large lateral surface to take up more energy which results in better evaporationto the phase transfer. Reaction products from complete combustion of LPG are only water vapor and carbon dioxide, the same as in your exhaled air. To solve these problems it was needed to change P11 composite bottles to P45 steel bottles to get a longer evaporation and larger lateral surface. Four flow inlets instead were used of one into SBB for a better stream in the free space under the sand bed. Propane regulators used to get a lower and more constant flow to avoid freezing. Compressed airconnected tothe SBB to geta mix between oxygen and LPG. The result shows in higherheat radiation efficiency even though the flow was settled down to 1/3 with the new propane regulators. In test 2 the value was 37 kW/m2 and in test 7 it was around 57 kW/m2. Because of a smaller flow and bigger steel bottles the freezing disappeared. Smaller grain of sand together with four inlets and compressed air gave a more complete combustion.

However, this popularity comes with growing security concerns, like increasing frequency of identity theft, leading to bigger problems which put user anonymity at risk. One possible solution for these problems is using cryptography to enhance security of Bitcoin or other decentralised digital currency systems and to decrease frequency of attacks on either communication channels or system storage. This report outlines various methods and solutions targeting these issues and aims to understand their effectiveness. It also describes Secure Bitcoin Wallet, standard Bitcoin transactions client, enhanced with various security features and services.

La thèse traite des questions énergétiques et géopolitiques relatives à deux États centre-eurasiatiques, l’Azerbaïdjan et le Turkménistan. Au premier niveau d’analyse, la thèse se concentre sur la place de l’Azerbaïdjan et du Turkménistan dans les rivalités de pouvoirs et les rapports de force régionaux. Elle met en évidence les deux types de compétitions qui existent autour des hydrocarbures de l’Azerbaïdjan et du Turkménistan. Premièrement, il s’agit de la compétition géopolitique qui oppose la Russie, acteur régional à deux acteurs extrarégionaux, les États-Unis et l’Union Européenne. Deuxièmement, il s’agit de la compétition commerciale qui existe entre les sociétés énergétiques, d’une part et d’une autre part, des tensions qui émergent entre les premières et les pouvoirs politiques de leurs pays d’origine. Au second niveau d’analyse, la thèse se focalise sur le rôle de l’Azerbaïdjan et du Turkménistan dans les compétitions régionales. Elle s’intéresse à la façon dont les deux États utilisent leurs ressources énergétiques, leurs positions géographiques et l’environnement géopolitique pour promouvoir leurs intérêts de politique étrangère. La thèse explore cette situation par le prisme du Nouveau Grand Jeu. Ce concept y est employé pour souligner les antagonismes existants entre les puissances régionales et extrarégionales au sujet du transport des hydrocarbures de l’Azerbaïdjan et du Turkménistan. La chronologie de la thèse s’étend sur la période comprise entre le moment de la chute de l’URSS et le présent. Cette période est structurée en deux étapes comprenant les années 1991-2006 et 2006-2013 qui sont désignées comme l’âge du pétrole et respectivement, l’âge du gaz. / This dissertation focuses on the energy and geopolitical issues of two Central-Eurasian countries, Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan. At the first level of analysis, the dissertation looks at the place of Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan in the great power rivalries in Central Eurasia. It emphasizes the existence of two types of competition over the energy resources of these two post-soviet countries. Firstly, it analyzes the geopolitical competition among regional and extra-regional actors, Russia, the United States and the European Union. Secondarily, the dissertation emphasizes the commercial competition among major international energy companies. It also identifies the existing tensions between these multinational actors and the political authorities in their home countries. At the second level of analysis, the dissertation is focused on the role played by Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan in the geopolitical and commercial rivalries. The dissertation analyzes the way that the two countries use their energy resources, geographical positions and sensitive geopolitical context in order to promote and defend their foreign policy interests. The dissertation looks at this complex situation through the lens of the New Great Game. This concept is used with a view to underlining the antagonism between regional and extra-regional powers regarding the oil and gas export routes of Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan. In terms of chronology, the dissertation covers the period from the collapse of the USSR until the present day. This period is divided into two so-called epochs: the Age of Oil (1991-2006) and the Age of Gas (2006-present day).
