Forsell, Philip January 2017 (has links)

Figurações da crueldade do Coringa nos quadrinhos de Batman: a piada mortal / The Joker’s figurations of cruelty in the comic book Batman: the killing joke

No. of bitstreams: 1 Valéria Yida.pdf: 23709999 bytes, checksum: 433480f21038e2eb21eb7cb5efeacde0 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2016-12-08 / This research analyzes the Joker’s figurations of cruelty in the comic book Batman: A Piada Mortal (Batman: The Killing Joke, 1988). The cruelty of this character, understood as the wish to cause pain and suffering to another, has his own style in his lewd speech, in the following of an aesthetic of horror by the image-synthesis of his red rictus shaped mouth, as well as a plot that stages rituals of exhibitionism and sadism, in which the Joker's victims are offered in honor to Batman. This research contributes to the study of the villain in superhero genre comics, a character who, among clashes and truces with the hero, creates a field of tension that moves a suspenseful narrative of action and twists with an appeasing ending that invites the reader to the next adventure of the series. Cruelty is the Joker’s passion that wants to destabilize and corrupt the hero, composing the dynamics of a dense, ambiguous and sinister relationship between Batman and him. The aim of this research lies in this: what makes the Joker’s cruelty so outstanding in his relationship with Batman? By which means this cruelty determines and qualifies the Joker criminal acts, modifying his bound with the hero over the comics? The goal is to delimit the Joker’s imponderable of cruelty through its figurations that make him the quintessential villain in Batman stories. A two-way theoretical foundation was used: the via governed by image, professed by Thierry Groensteen, examining the complex system of narrative in which the drawing and the words are networked, and the psychoanalytical via in the Lacan’s trait unaire and perversion concepts, with the support of the Joker character’s approach to the literary figure of the sadean libertine / Esta pesquisa analisa as figurações da crueldade do Coringa nos quadrinhos de Batman: A Piada Mortal (Batman: The Killing Joke, 1988).

"With great power comes great responsibility" : En studie av teknik och biologi i superhjältefilmer

Hjelm, Niklas, Karlsson, Tobias January 2009 (has links)

Det är ju bara serier : En studie om journalistik i grafiska noveller / It´s just comics : A study of journalism in graphic novels

Lindahl, Christopher, Ankersen, Dag January 2010 (has links)
The purpose of this thesis was to study how journalism is represented in graphic novels, what roles are represented and if journalism in graphic novels is good or evil. The goal was also to see if there were any similarities or differences over a period of time. This was done with a qualitative analysis of two graphic novels written and drawn by Frank Miller. When we did the analysis we focused on pictures and texts that directly had a connection to the journalistic role. We used a semiotic approach to analyze the two graphic novels were our main focus where on what connotation, what denotation and what stereotypes could be found. This study establishes that stereotypes are used to represent journalism in a negative way. Journalists are also the cause of more harm than good. When you put journalism into the narrative technique of good versus evil they are clearly evil and use their power to undermine the heroes of the story. The journalists are put into stereotypical roles such as the female news reporter who is all looks and no brain, or the overzealous male reporter who tries to tell the truth but no one will listen to him. It is also clear that journalism is represented in a way that describes it as a phenomenon that spreads panic because the journalists in many cases come to their own conclusions without having all the facts. The study also shows that over a period of fifteen years the role of the journalist is the same but the way they are represented is very different.  Because of the larger rivalry from other news sources the media is forced to find new ways to attract an audience. Therefore the newer graphic novel portrays a sexualisation of the journalistic role.

Batman, o cavaleiro das trevas - a HQ, o desenho animado e o filme: transfiguração

Elias, Ricardo Ribeiro January 2016 (has links)
The research undertakes an analysis of the discursive transfiguration¿s process on the Comic Book, Animated Cartoon, and Movie of the work Batman, The Dark Knight Returns, originally created by Frank Miller. The referred analysis objectified to observe how the work¿s conditions of production ¿ respectively, comic book and its reinterpretations ¿ determined the identity constitution in the Batman and the Joker. In broad terms, the research conciliated a relation between the Discourse Analysis and the Literature. So, intending to reach the objectives, theories about translation and adaptation were mobilized, basing the discussions involving the materialities; theories whose relation applies to the discursive transfiguration, this notion which substantiated the analysis device. In this work, the discourse¿s conditions of production allowed to expatiate upon the creation, and the identities, of the analyzed characters, as well as the mobilization of questions with relation to discursive and cultural identities. We utilized the discursive macrostructure to analyze the materialities, as a form of bringing them forward. In addition, the analysis focused in comprehending the identities through an analytical reading of the image in itself, bringing this referred focus to the non-verbal¿s inherent aspects ¿ the text-image. We understood that identities, both in Batman and Joker, experience changes. Observing the characters¿ behavior thoroughly, considering the verbal and non-verbal excerpts, we found out discursive marks that indicate particularities of postmodern identities. We also understood that the characters experience changes, in their transfigurations, from the reinterpretation of directors and scriptwriters situated into new conditions of production. Other perceptible substantiation is the unsettled issue of the authorship related to the characters, primarily concerning the Batman. / Submitted by Jovina Laurentino Raimundo (jovina.raimundo@unisul.br) on 2017-10-23T16:39:44Z No. of bitstreams: 1 112577_Ricardo.pdf: 4292981 bytes, checksum: 84bf92afd938a80a18239ceba9b0011d (MD5) / Approved for entry into archive by Fabiane dos Santos (fabiane.santos3@unisul.br) on 2017-10-23T16:44:27Z (GMT) No. of bitstreams: 1 112577_Ricardo.pdf: 4292981 bytes, checksum: 84bf92afd938a80a18239ceba9b0011d (MD5) / Made available in DSpace on 2017-10-23T16:44:27Z (GMT).
