[en] PORTFOLIO IN OIL EXPLORATION UNDER UNCERTAINTY: CONDITIONS FOR WAR OF ATTRITION AND COOPERATIVE BARGAINING / [pt] PORTFÓLIO EM EXPLORAÇÃO DE PETRÓLEO SOB INCERTEZAS: CONDIÇÕES PARA A GUERRA DE ATRITO E A BARGANHA COOPERATIVALUCAS MESZ 21 June 2021 (has links)
Considera a consolidação
[en] This research models the sequential exploratory strategy of oil and
gas prospects at different levels of uncertainty. To do so, it considers
portfolio consolidation by the concept of information disclosure and the
advantages of using Information Value theory for the optimal drilling
sequence. The price uncertainty of the spot price of a barrel of oil is
modeled as a Geometric Brownian Motion. Given the length of the oil
exploration concession contract, the option values of investing in the assets
and exploration portfolio are analyzed. In addition to these uncertainties,
the model considers the competitive effect of another company in a game
known as the War of Attrition, examined using several case studies. This
game occurs when assets are correlated, and companies wait as free-riders
for information of hydrocarbon occurrence from the drilling of the asset by
the neighboring operator.
The results point out that the firm should analyze its exploratory opportunities
under the real options approach, and improves with exploratory
portfolio analysis, which combines the value of waiting with the value of information.
The impact of strategic interactions is relevant, especially when
the two firms portfolios have similar exploratory triggers. In asymmetric
games, the ratio between the exploratory triggers and the simultaneous
drilling triggers defines the degeneration to drilling action of one of the
operators. This effect can also be analyzed when comparing the benefit of
waiting for information from the conflicting companies. If there is perpetuation
in the war of attrition, agents can change to a cooperative bargaining
game. In this case, there should be an information exchange between the
trading firms, with private information being more relevant than public
information. In the case of a marginal improvement in the learning measure,
the change to cooperative bargaining already becomes advantageous
for both players.

[en] INTRODUCTION TO GAME THEORY AND MATHEMATICS IN SECONDARY EDUCATION / [pt] INTRODUÇÃO À TEORIA DOS JOGOS E A MATEMÁTICA NO ENSINO MÉDIOSILVIO BARROS PEREIRA 03 March 2015 (has links)
[en] The objective of this study is to apply Game Theory as a motivating element in the teaching of mathematics in those classes in the 3rd series of secondary education in the state schools of the city of Rio de Janeiro which have already frequently presented difficulties in learning this discipline. We construct a didactic sequence to be applied in the classroom: presentation of a brief history of the theory; the realisation of the game, the Prisoner s Dilema; and a subsequent explanation of the results predicted by Game Theory for this game, introducing the concepts of the result matrix and the dominant strategy. We then apply a simple self-assessment test in order to consolidate these topics. Once the students are familiarised with the basic concepts of Game Theory, we realise the Ultimatum Game in the classroom in order to compare the results with those obtained by Bianchi, Carter e Irons and Castro e Ribeiro.

[en] GAME THEORY AND MATHEMATICS IN SECONDARY EDUCATION: INTRODUCTION TO NASH EQUILIBRIUM / [pt] TEORIA DOS JOGOS E A MATEMÁTICA NO ENSINO MÉDIO: INTRODUÇÃO AO EQUILÍBRIO DE NASHTHIAGO OLIVEIRA NASCIMENTO 03 March 2015 (has links)
[en] The objective of this work is to investigate the effect of game theory as a motivator for mathematics education on those second year high school students in the state public schools of Rio de Janeiro who have already shown frequent difficulties with the discipline. In order to achieve the proposed goal, we develop a didactic sequence involving the application in the classroom of the games the Ultimatum Game and the Prisoner s Dilema without any prior introduction to the basic concepts of game theory. After the completion of each game, we explain the results predicted by the theory, introducing the concepts of the payoff matrix, the dominant strategy and the Nash Equilibrium. In addition, we explain the operation of the game of Simplified Poker along which its theoretical results. Upon completion of the application of this didactic sequence, we apply a simple self-evaluation test in order to verify the academic level of the students involved. Finally, we compare the results obtained by the pairs of students who participated in the game the Ultimatum Game (performed when the students still had no experience of Game Theory) with the results obtained by Bianchi, Carter e Irons and Castro e Ribeiro.

The practices of the people reveal peculiar forms of sociability and interaction and they are constituent of different social spaces. This work takes the daily practices of negotiation between merchants and customers to evidence the symbolic aspects (gestures, actions and speeches) of the social interactions and of the changes that grow in the multiples spaces of the Feira Central of Campina Grande. In this sense, it looks to differentiate of other works that analyze the free markets in the Northeast stating from a perspective predominantly mercantile, in that the economical relationships are stood out. The choice of the Feira Central of Campina Grande as point of the research for this work is justified in first place for its historical, economical and social-cultural meaning, not just for the municipal district, but for the whole area of the rural Northeastemer. On the other hand, the Feira Central is configured as a permanent market and diversified, already distant of traditional Feiras, marked by the countless resulting contradiction of the process of modernization of the Northeastern urban nets. The use that I do of the notion of negotiation inspired in the works of Goffman and in the perspective of the microssociology, it allows us to analize the actions and the social actors' representation, and the rituals of changes that develop in public. The negotiation show us the impressions and coherent information with the intentions and they're necessary to a good or positive ending of the interaction. The actions of the people that "fazem a Feira" ("make the fair": actors that
participate of the daily construction of the fair), have their spaces as stage and scenery
for the negotiation plots that involve symbolic changes and of merchadises, it allows us
to understand the appeal and/or maintenance of the Feira Central of Campina Grande as
place of social interaction face to the specificities and social-historical forces that part
their small spaces without disarticulating them or disaggregating them.
