Three Dimensional Comparison of Free Throw Shooting: the Women's Small Ball vs. the Large Ball

Thomson, Carol Jane 08 1900 (has links)
The purposes of this study were to quantify, in three dimensions (3D), kinematic parameters of the free throw shot with both the women's small ball and the large ball, and to compare the parameters of the small ball to the large ball. Nine female varsity college basketball players were filmed and the 3D data were computed with the Nonlinear Transformation method. Statistical analysis of parameters including ball trajectory and body position failed to show an effect for ball condition. Since the velocity of release was not statistically different between the two balls and the ball mass was different, the results suggest that impulse is the differing factor.

Group Cohesion in Sport: A Multidimensional Approach

Yukelson, David P. (David Paul) 08 1900 (has links)
Group cohesion has been operationalized in the literature by measures which tend to focus only upon limited aspects of the phenomenon, usually interpersonal attraction or attraction to the group. In sport, it is imperative that instruments developed to assess group cohesion reflect factors associated with the goals and objectives the group is striving to achieve as well as factors associated with the development and maintenance of harmonious positive interpersonal relationships. Therefore, the purpose of the present study was to develop a valid and reliable group cohesion instrument that measures both task related forces as well as social related forces that exist in sport groups.

The relationship between academic integration and basketball participation at one NCAA Division III institution

Schroeder, Peter J. 01 January 1998 (has links)
The purpose of this study was to assess the relationship between basketball participation and academic integration at one NCAA Division Ill school. Research on the college experiences of NCAA Division I male student-athletes in corporate sports has demonstrated that athletic participation does not enhance academic integration. Conversely, Division I women athletes have become academically integrated despite participating in intercollegiate athletics. Therefore, this study sought to discover integration differences between males and females at the Division Ill level and made comparisons with the Division I literature. Academic integration was defined as a belief in the academic goals of an institution based on academic involvement, peer interaction, faculty interaction and involvement in work, sport or other extracurricular activities. Nine male and five female Division Ill basketball players from one liberal arts college were interviewed. Based on qualitative analyses, three major themes were identified. First, the student-athletes were predisposed to academic integration based on their high school grade point averages, test scores, parent's education and social class. Second, once in college, they became academically integrated through academic planning, extracurricular involvement, and peer and faculty interaction. Finally, through their coach's assistance with academic planning and the social interaction it created, basketball played a partial role in the integration process for men. Women, however, did not use basketball as their primary means of establishing social ties and did not receive academic assistance from their coach. These were the only differences between genders. The school's academic climate and structure were the most significant factors impacting academic integration. The coach's ability to support these was a secondary factor. When compared to Division I males, these male student-athletes were much more integrated. The females in the current study were similar to their Division I counterparts with respect to academic integration.

13–14 metų jaunųjų krepšininkų baudos metimų veiksmingumas, taikant skirtingas tobulinimo programas / The efficiency of free throws of young 13–14 years old basketball players adjusting the different programs of perfection

Voronovas, Edgaras 14 June 2012 (has links)
[toliau žr. visą tekstą] / The research sought to analyze the accuracy of free throws of young basketball players and its change, when applying various free throw shooting improvement programs. The sample of research consisted of 13-14 year old young basketball players from “Sabonis Basketball Centre” (n=14). Tasks of research: 1. To assess the change of effectiveness of free throw shooting by applying free throw shooting improvement programs under invariable conditions; 2. To assess the change of accuracy of free throw shooting by applying free throw shooting improvement programs under variable conditions; 3. To determine heart rate indicators of young basketball players during free throw shooting under variable and invariable conditions. The research was carried out during the seasons of 2008-2009 and 2009-2010. Young basketball players were tested three times a year (every 90 days): before educational experiment – during preparation period (in September), in the middle – during game period (in December), after experiment – at the end of game period (in March). One of two free throw shooting improvement programs was applied in each practice of young basketball players during educational experiment: I program in two practices and II program in the remaining two practices. The values of arithmetic mean ( ) and standard deviations (SD) as well as significance of differences between mean values, according to Student’s t-criterion for independent samples, were calculated. Difference with allowable... [to full text]

Jaunųjų krepšininkų greitumo ištvermės kaitos tyrimas / Research of speed endurance diversity among young basketball players

Jasilionis, Aurimas 16 August 2007 (has links)
Master degree theses investigate speed endurance of young basketball players (age 14–15).
