“En märklig flicka” : - en retorisk analys av Pippi Långstrump ur ett ledarskapsperspektiv

Ekström, Isa, Marlowe, Isabelle January 2022 (has links)
“A strange girl” In this thesis, we study selected dialogue scenes from the movies “På rymmen med Pippi Långstrump” and “Pippi på de sju haven”. The purpose of the study is to investigate how the character Pippi Longstocking is portrayed as a leader of a social group through her interactions. Based on the social interaction between Pippi, Tommy and Annika we are able to analyze behavior patterns, social categorization and attributes. We use the method of interaction analysis to make it possible to study leadership in social contexts. The result of the study indicates that Pippi Longstocking practices leadership but also that she is attributed to leadership through Tommy and Annika’s behaviors and actions in situations. Furthermore, it is discussed how the friends show an unreasonable trust in Pippi and choose to follow her at any costs.

Type A Behavior Pattern: Its Relationship to the Holland Types and the Career Choice Process

Martin, Kyle Thomas 05 1900 (has links)
The primary purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship of the Type A behavior pattern to Holland's occupational types and the career choice process. The Type A behavior pattern is characterized by high levels of achievement striving, time urgency, chronic activation and hostility, and is an independent risk factor in the development of coronary heart disease. It was hypothesized that Type A college students would be more attracted than Type B individuals to aspects of a future work environment which would reinforce their Type A behaviors. Previous research had suggested a relationship between the Type A behavior pattern and Holland's Enterprising and Investigative types (Martin, 1986). This study sought to replicate those findings, and further examine the nature of the Type A/B-Holland types relationship. Data were collected from undergraduate students in a variety of academic fields of study. Subjects completed a questionnaire packet consisting of the student version of the Jenkins Activity Survey (Jenkins, Rosenman, and Zyzanski, 1965; Glass, 1977), the Vocational Preference Inventory (Holland, 1985b), and a modified version of the Minnesota Job Description Questionnaire (Rosen, et al., 1972) . The findings demonstrated that the Type A/B pattern is a significant factor in the career choice process. Type A's and Type B's had different levels of attraction to several aspects of a work environment in anticipating a career choice. The study also revealed that Type A/B pattern and the Holland types play separate roles in the career choice process. Implications of the study and future research directions are discussed.

The Effects of Cognitive Style and Socialization Background on Patterns of Behavior: Integrating Individual Differences (Using the MBTI) with Meadian Socialization Theory

Nazempooran, Ali 05 1900 (has links)
The general purpose of this study is to examine the effects of socialization background and cognitive style on individuals' patterns of behavior. The more specific purpose is to integrate the individual differences factor using the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator with Meadian Theory of Socialization in order to explore the ways in which a group of incarcerated individuals with prior felony and misdemeanor convictions and a group of college students are different regarding their different socialization background and cognitive styles. Data for this study were collected from a university and a county jail in Texas. During the process of data collection, two questionnaires consisting of 117 items were used to measure individual characteristics and elements of socialization background. This study is organized into four different chapters. Chapter I involves a detailed review of related literature, the purpose of the study, stated hypotheses, significance of the study, and limitations. Chapter II discusses methodological procedures and Chapter III presents the findings of the study. The last chapter includes a detailed conclusion and practical implications of the study. The findings in this study indicated that the group of incarcerated individuals and the group of college students are significantly different in terms of their different individual characteristics and socialization backgrounds. However, it was found that socialization background has the most significant effects on patterns of behavior among the two groups under study. It was concluded that while accepting the crucial importance of socialization factors, specific psychological characteristics of people also need to be integrated into sociological studies concerning human behavior for the better understanding of different groups and individuals in society.

Heart Rate as an Index of Student Cognitive Activity in a Classroom

Agnew, Robert L. 08 1900 (has links)
The purpose of this study was to test the Lacey hypothesis of cardiac behavior patterns for possible use as a measure of attentiveness in a classroom where experimental variables were not controlled. Lacey's hypothesis predicted cardiac deceleration with instances of information-intake and cardiac acceleration with instances of information-processing. Third grade students in a self-contained classroom were telemetrically monitored for heart rate during reading group activities. Based on cardiac behavior, taking verbal instructions and reading aloud were improperly classified. Verbal instructions produced a mean acceleratory response instead of the predicted deceleration. Reading aloud produced a weak mean deceleratory response instead of the anticipated acceleration. The other events within the intake category and the processing category, respectively, adhered to the predicted directional responses despite their statistical nonsignificance. The methodology proved sensitive to events following the momentary state of information-handling by the individual. It was proposed that averaging of data led to loss of individual sensitivity to reading group events. Individual student attentiveness to different events may be yet studied via this objective technique.

Especially for lawyers, information, both legal and from other areas of knowledge is an essential resource. In this sense, it is intended in a general scope: to identify the informational behavior characteristics of lawyers related to their daily work. In a more specific context, the goals were: a) verify the sources of information used by lawyers to identify and obtain information; b) identify the sources of information used by lawyers; c) determine the positive and negative aspects that influence the informational behavior of lawyers. For such, a sample made of 10 lawyers who work in Marília and the nearby area was analyzed, representing a total of approximately 1,000 professionals. The data collection was carried out by a semi-structured interview and the collected data were qualitatively analyzed. Results show that the most common mechanism to obtain information is the coworker contact (informal chat for information exchange), and with professionals from other areas; among the sources of information available in their offices, the Internet is the most popular and considered the most important; the formal sources of information (the Internet and books) are the most used; most of the professionals have difficulty to find and access information, mainly when they come across some innovative or challenging subject; ask for help in the activities of information seeking is a very common practice to most of them; several aspects may influence informational behavior, but the one that is positive with the greatest influence is related to people (family and office coworkers). On the other hand, the negative aspects are related to technology. It was concluded that the proposed goals... (Complete abstract click electronic access below) / Mestre

Perceived Proximity in Times of Spatial Distance : Understanding the Mediating Effect of Communication Behavior in Suddenly Dispersed Teams

Forssmann, Chantal, Hildebrand, Lisa January 2021 (has links)
Background: The persistent Covid-19 pandemic tremendously challenged existing work teams as it drove spatial dispersion among colleagues and greater dependence on virtual communication tools. Consequently, teams were required to adapt proven communication practices that mediate the exchange of social information and the perception of proximity to teammates. Aim: We aim to broaden team studies’ theoretical understanding of communication behavior and proximity in the light of contextual changes by developing an empathic understanding of the contemporary phenomena. This entails identifying arisen communication behavior patterns and assessing the impact of behavioral changes on team members’ perception of proximity. Methodology: By conducting a qualitative case study, we investigated three teams of a medium-sized German fashion corporation. The iterative data collection entailed six semi-structured interviews with individuals and focus groups and complementary quantitative surveys. Findings: We posit that sudden spatial dispersion of familiar teams does not inevitable lead to greater perceived distance, but that a team’s ability to appropriate technology, so social needs are met, is decisive. Further, the new communication practices of all teams were found to maintain high levels of synchronicity and social informational value. Yet, communication quality and social exchange was partially hampered by reduced spontaneity, greater passiveness, and a loss of humor. This was found to be strongly influenced by team members’ attitudes towards used technology.
