In addition to them literature, mainly in book form, is used for theories.</p><p>RESULT: We have seen that there are shared Black Metal values, despite a strong individualism within the culture. It aims to analyze its aesthetics and poetics as well as study its video clips language and their new emerging audiovisual narratives, focusing on the “interactive video clip”. The essay’s proposal comes from the researcher’s own experience with black metal in the Brazilian scenario, which was possible because of his authorial band “Luxúria de Lilith”. The research involves the new possibilities of fruition through the creation of a visual interactive narrative based on one of the songs from “Luxúria de Lilith”’s black metal opera, Gehennom. It is part of a master’s degree final paper, presenting a fictional and transmediatic universe that explores the poetics of the interactive video clip. / Essa pesquisa exploratória tem como base a investigação teórica e a prática artística, objetivando pesquisar a estética e a poética do subgênero musical black metal, uma das vertentes do heavy metal, assim como a linguagem do videoclipe e das novas narrativas audiovisuais emergentes, focando no chamado “videoclipe interativo”. A proposta parte da experiência do pesquisador no âmbito da cena brasileira do black metal durante 20 anos, por meio de sua banda autoral “Luxúria de Lillith”, e do estudo de suas motivações conceituais, as mesmas que caracterizam o referido gênero musical. Le métal noir québécois : l'analyse du récit identitaire d'une communauté black metal marginale

Tableau d'honneur de la FÉSP / Cette thèse porte sur l’analyse du récit identitaire (découlant tant de la musique, de l’imagerie que du discours) de la communauté de métal noir québécois (MNQ). S’étant développée dans la province de Québec vers 2005, cette communauté toujours active renferme un certain nombre de groupes (dont Forteresse, Brume d’Automne et Chasse-Galerie) employant le style black metal. En provenance de l’Europe du Nord, ce style s’est constitué dans les années 1980 et traite principalement de thématiques occultes, de la valorisation des cultures préchrétiennes ou encore de nationalisme, et ce, à l’aide d’une réalisation sonore lo-fi. La particularité de la communauté de MNQ réside dans l’adaptation du style black metal au contexte québécois. Ainsi, les musiciens projettent une vision romantique d’un Québec indépendant tant à travers la musique, l’imagerie que les discours. Ce faisant, ceux-ci créent donc un récit identitaire, où les différents événements liés à l’histoire de la province sont revisités afin de mieux cadrer dans l’idéologie black metal à laquelle ils adhèrent. Pour mieux comprendre comment se structure le récit musical, ainsi que ceux découlant de l’interprétation des images des livrets et du discours des membres de la communauté, les concepts de récits phonographique, paraphonographique et communal ont été employés. La jonction de ces trois niveaux de récit (phonographique, paraphonographique et communal) permet de faire émerger le récit dit « identitaire », un concept élaboré par le philosophe Paul Ricoeur. En effet, celui-ci avance que notre identité personnelle et collective est ordonnée à travers la narration et que l’interprétation de différents événements historiques – par les membres d’une communauté donnée – forme un récit identitaire particulier. Afin de comprendre ce récit identitaire, j’ai mené 21 entretiens ethnographiques avec 25 membres de la communauté de MNQ et fait l’analyse d’un total de 48 chansons en provenance de 10 groupes. Ainsi, la jonction de ces niveaux de récit a favorisé une meilleure compréhension des éléments musicaux, visuels et discursifs spécifiques de cette communauté qui, en plus de réutiliser les codes idéologiques et esthétiques propres au black metal, puise dans les références culturelles et historiques québécoises. / This thesis refers to the analysis of the identity-based narrative (resulting from music, imagery and speech) of the Québec black metal community (MNQ). Having developed in the province of Quebec around 2005, this still active community contains several groups (including Forteresse, Brume d’Automne and Chasse-Galerie) using the black metal style. Coming from Northern Europe, this style was created in the 1980s and deals mainly with occult topics, the valorization of pre-Christian cultures or even nationalism, and this, with the help of a lo-fi sound production. The particularity of the MNQ community lies in the adaptation of the black metal style to the Québec context. Thus, musicians project a romantic vision of an independent Québec through music, imagery and speeches. In doing so, they create an identity-based narrative, where the various events related to the history of the province are revisited to better fit into the black metal ideology to which they adhere. To better understand how the musical narrative is structured, as well as those arising from the interpretation of the images of the booklets and the discourse of the members of the community, the concepts of phonographic, paraphonographic and communal narrative were used. The junction of these three levels of narrative makes it possible to reveal the « identity-based » narrative, a concept elaborated by the philosopher Paul Ricoeur. Indeed, he argues that our personal and collective identity is ordered through narrative and that the interpretation of different historical events – by the members of a given community – forms a particular identity-based narrative. To understand this identity-based narrative, I conducted 21 ethnographic interviews with members of the community and performed the analysis of 48 songs total from 10 MNQ groups. Thus, the junction of these levels of narrative has fostered a better understanding of the specific musical, visual and discursive elements of this community which, in addition to reusing the ideological and aesthetic codes specific to black metal, draws on Québec cultural and historical references.

Jag arbetar med frodiga och pompösa skulpturer som är tillverkade i keramik. Projektet Black Mass har musikgenren BlackMetal som utgångspunkt. Här undersöker jag hur musikgenren Black Metal går att överföra till keramik. Den krock mellankeramik och Black Metal tar sin form i en fiktiv ritual där ambitionen varit att utgå från musiken som beskriver ondska, mörkeroch satanism. I min essä förklarar jag min bakgrund till musik genren och hur det kommer sig att jag valde Black Metal somutgångspunkt till mina keramiska verk. Jag beskriver mitt förhållande till leran och varför den blivit mitt huvudsakliga medium imin konstnärliga praktik. Sedan har jag försökt bena ut vad det är inom genren/subkulturen Black Metal som jag velat ta tillvarapå och införliva i min installation ”Black Mass”.

This study is a text analysis of the Black Metal genre's texts and how they portray society, the world and death. The main purpose of the study has been to find out, among other things, from the theories of Anthony Gidden and Zygmunt Bauman how these descriptions could affect young people's creation of identity, life view and life interpretation. The questions from which the study was based are: What picture of the world, society and religion are depicted in the texts? How can the portrayals affect the creation of identity, view of life and life interpretation by young people and young adults? Which I have answered by examining texts from three different Black Metal bands. The study is religious science and is relevant for several reasons. Especially when mental illness among young people increases. Combined with the increasingly widespread secularization in society, this risks that young people tend to seek subcultural branches that risk affecting development both positively and negatively. By creating a greater understanding of what young people find attractive in the different subcultural genres, adults in the school can work preventively at an early stage by communicating at the young people's own level. The study contributes to an understanding of a genre, but there are more genres to eventually understand. Good communication between teachers and pupils leads to trusting relationships, which also means that students who for one reason or another feel poorly at best, ask for help instead of seeking out potentially destructive environments.

Att definiera och skilja på snarlika subgenrer : Tillämpat på death- och black metal

Det är svårt att sätta ord på vad man menar när man pratar om musik. Jag är intresserad av varför det sällan går att finna definitioner av genrer när diskussionen om dem är så stark, speciellt när det gäller snarlika genrer som troligtvis är uppdelade av en eller flera anledningar. Syftet med min undersökning är att utveckla vidare kunskap om vilken betydelse det har att skilja på två snarlika subgenrer inom samma metagenre. Jag undersöker därför hur två snarlika genrer definieras och jämför dem sedan och prövar om det är av betydelse att undersöka flera aspekter av en musikgenre. Tidigare forskning föreslår att den musikaliska stilen borde undersökas likväl som kulturen och andra aspekter. En stark diskussion pågår just inom heavy metalscenen om subgenrerna inom den, därför undersöker jag subgenrerna death- och black metal. I denna undersökning använder jag Fabbris mall för genredefinition, där undersöks formella och tekniska regler, semiotiska regler, regler för beteende, sociala och ideologiska regler samt ekonomiska och juridiska regler. Reglerna har jag undersökt genom att lyssna på fonogram, titta på videoinspelningar av liveframträdande och publik samt hur aktörer inom scenerna beter sig när de inte är på scen. Jag har även analyserat låttexter och använt mig av diverse litteratur och dokumentärfilmer. Mitt resultat visar att det finns betydande anledningar till att skilja på death metal och black metal trots att de musikaliskt liknar varandra.
