Děti zrozené ze znásilnění během konfliktu v Bosně a Hercegovině: poválečné diskurzy / Children born of War Rape in Bosnia and Herzegovina: Postwar Discourse

Grossová, Veronika January 2019 (has links)
The main subject of the research is the social discourse about the ethnic identity of children born of rape during the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina in 1992-1995. Acts of rape are considered to be part of the war tactics of major rivals (Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Army of Republika Srpska, and Croatian Defence Council) and paramilitary units. Forced fertilization and disallowance of abortion was carried out as an accompanying factor of ethnic cleansing. The International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia has recognized these acts as war crimes. The main objective of the research is to pursue a cross- societal discussion on the issue of inheritance of identity in the case of children of war: first, through a discourse analysis of the media, which significantly contribute to the image of these children, and second, through the contribution of interviews conducted during the field research. The way in which the children born of war are depicted and perceived affects various aspects of their lives. The results of the project will contribute to the discussion of war crimes and their impact on contemporary Bosnian society.

Egenmakt och jämställdhet i föräldraskapsstöd för utrikesfödda pappor : En kvalitativ studie / Empowerment and equality in parental support for foreign-born fathers : A qualitative study

Fungmark, Jimmy January 2020 (has links)
Parental support programs aimed at foreign-born parents have increased in interest in Swedish municipalities. Research on these types of parental support programs is therefore important in order to ensure that the support given have the desired effects and that the programs have value for the individuals to whom the support is directed. The aim of this thesis was to identify the goals of a parental support program offered to foreign-born fathers as well as to investigate and analyse how participants in the parental support program experience and understand their participation in the program in relation to these goals. The empirical material was collected through qualitative textual analysis of background documents to the parental support program as well as through qualitative interviews with three participants in the program. The empirical material was analysed through theories of empowerment and gender. The result showed both similarities and differences between the participants experiences of the parental support program and the background documents that formed the basis of the program. The main result showed that the goal of the parental support was to fundamentally change the fathers’ way of being, by promoting gender equality and by inspiring fathers to take greater responsibility for their children. However, the interviewed fathers held a pragmatic attitude towards the parental support program, by using the information as a tool to maneuver in Swedish society without necessarily having to fundamentally change.

How Does An Entrepreneur Create A Born Global Firm? : A Case Study Of A Swedish Start-Up Trying To Enter The Indian Market.

Martins Liberio Coelho, Luzia, Fridrichova, Alena January 2022 (has links)
Purpose - The purpose of this study is to assess the process of early pre-internationalised and pre-market established born global company and to provide viable advice as to how to internationalise the Indian market which is psychically and geographically distant from the Swedish market. Design/methodology/approach - This study follows a qualitative research approach with an inductive single case study design in order to examine in-depth the Swedish start-up, TurtleCare AB, throughout its internationalisation process. In terms of data collection, a triangulation method has been employed comprising both primary and secondary data. Findings - The evidence suggests the entrepreneur partly acts under the effectuation logic, in the sense of reaching out and attempting to create network and partners, however, more notable is the market research and step-by-step causation process carried out by the decision-maker. Hence, the effectiveness of logic (causation or effectuation) applied is heavily dependent on the situation the company finds itself in. Among the possible market segments to be addressed in India, the most prominent ones are hospitality and tourism together with healthcare. In fact, the Indian market presents numerous opportunities for the foreign brand, however, crucial cultural factors influencing consumer behaviour must be considered when formulating a market entry strategy. Research limitations - Research biases stem from chosen method and nature of data gathering as well as the extent of company research on foreign market/market entry and short observation time might have limited the outcome. Practical implications - A real-life example of an entrepreneur's journey may not only serve as inspiration for future entrepreneurs but also, provide several insights for further research on born global internationalisation, particularly, in what concerns customer segmentation and market entry strategy within a challenging yet promising international business context. Originality/value - The originality dwells in the assessment of the processes happening in a pre-internationalised Swedish born global firm that attempts to enter the Far East market, with a focus on entrepreneurial actions, opportunity perception and decision-making logic.

"Dom gör ingenting för att lösa problemen på Norrby” : En kvalitativ intervju undersökning om hur myndigheter och organisationer arbetar för att motverka segregationen på Norrby / They do nothing to solve the problems at Norrby

Ram, Hadi, Hussein, Asra January 2021 (has links)
The thesis is based on examining how authorities and organizations work to counter segregation in Norrby and to integrate citizens into society. To get the question answered, semistructured interviews were used, where different officials from each authority and organization were digitally interviewed about how their workplace works to counter segregation and integrate citizens into society. The theoretical starting points of the thesis consist of habitus, Bourdieu's capital theory, social stratification, the Winston Parva model and finally the integration model. The results show that authorities and organizations work by building trust, giving lectures about the society, creating activities and supporting residents to apply for jobs and enter the labor market. In summary, all authorities work in their own way to create integration and counteract segregation in Norrby.

Persson, Marie January 2022 (has links)
The conditions of parenthood are affected by several factors, such as access to social support and parenting support, but also the parent's self-efficacy. In addition to these factors, foreign-born parents risk being affected by difficulties in adapting parenthood to the cultural and normative differences that exist between their home country and Sweden. They can therefore be seen as a group where society's offer of parenting support is particularly important. The aim of the study was to investigate how group leaders experience that the parental support program Parenting in Sweden can promote parental self-efficacy. The method was qualitative with an inductive approach where the purposeful sampling was supplemented with snowball sampling. The interviews were conducted in semi-structured form and analysed based on a manifest qualitative content analysis. The results showed that group leaders have positive experiences of the parental support programs’ promotive ability. On the other hand, the short duration of the programme is seen as an obstacle. The conclusions were that the parenting support program has the potential to promote parental self-efficacy through access to social support, the knowledge enhancing approach and the opportunity to improve the relationship between parents and their children.

Enabling a generation of social entrepreneurs: A study to establish if the practice of social entrepreneurship offers inclusive self-employment opportunities for disenfranchised South African youth

Carpenter, Janine 08 August 2019 (has links)
This study is concerned with contributing to solutions that address the problems of youth unemployment, inequality and poverty in South Africa, specifically among those youth who are being marginalised from participating equally in mainstream economic activities. It argues that financial and digital exclusion, as well as poor access to a quality education, are factors which are currently limiting these youths' economic potential and perpetuating a cycle of unemployment, inequality and poverty in South Africa. The literature and theory of social entrepreneurship presents a strong case to address unemployment, inequality and poverty, as well as to stimulate economic growth by creating new business and self-employment opportunities for the youth. This qualitative grounded theory study evaluates the theory of social entrepreneurship in practice, by comparing the theory to the lived realities of some disenfranchised youths in Cape Town. The study also provides an analysis of the systems of privilege and the dual economy that exist in South Africa. Through feedback received during interviews with a representative sample of the target group, the study offers new insights into the challenges faced when young people are seeking employment or want to start a business in the South African economy. Youth social entrepreneurship development and start-up incubation programmes arguably perform a critical function in facilitating inclusive economic participation among the youth. Developing new insights, concepts and recommendations to maximise these programmes' social impact is a critical function of this study, which ultimately hopes to contribute to the creation of more inclusive entrepreneurial opportunities for disadvantaged South African youth.

Risk Factors for Hypertension among African-born Immigrants in the United States

Ojih, John 01 January 2016 (has links)
Essential hypertension (HTN) has been and continues to be a serious public health problem across the globe, particularly among Black races, with an estimated morbidity rate of over 1 billion people and an estimated mortality rate of 9.4 million people worldwide. Essential HTN can lead to a host of chronic diseases including cardiovascular disease (CVD), stroke, myocardial infarction, brain damage, kidney failure, and retinopathy. The main purpose of this quantitative, descriptive, nonexperimental study was to investigate the association of physical inactivity, length of stay in the United States, immigrants' health status, and food security as risk indicators in the development of essential HTN among African-born immigrants after accounting for age and education. The conceptual framework for this study was the socioecological model of health (SEMH). A secondary dataset from the National Health Interview Survey (NHIS), for the year 2014, was used for this study, including data for Africa-born immigrants over the age of 40 who participated in the survey. Logistic regression was used for statistical analyses. The results of the study revealed that length of stay or years in spent in the United States have a significant association with the development of essential HTN. Results from this study could be used to promote positive social change by identifying and assessing challenges in implementing intervention programs meant to assist in controlling essential HTN among African-born immigrants and Black populations who are disproportionately affected by this condition.

Comparing African- and U.S.-Born Blacks at Stage of Diagnosis and Treatment for Nonsmall Cell Lung Cancer

Fofung, Relindis K. 01 January 2016 (has links)
Lung cancer is a disease with a high mortality rate for the U.S. Black population. There had been considerable research done on different population demographics, necessary to achieve the Healthy People 2020 overarching goals to eliminate health disparities, gain health equity and maintain quality health. Yet, the African-born Black (AFBB) population has been understudied for nonsmall cell lung cancer (NSCLC). This study sought to determine whether within race differences in stage at diagnosis and treatment of NSCLC exists between AFBB and American-born Blacks (AMBB) populations in the United States. The study data is secondary data collected as part of the National Cancer Institute's Surveillance Epidemiologic and End Result (SEER) Program from 2004-2011. Athough no significant difference was found between AFBB (n = 119) and AMBB (n = 238) relative to NSCLC stage at diagnosis, differences in treatments were found. The proportion of AFBB patients with early stage (I and II) NSCLC who underwent surgery differed significantly from that of AMBB (p < 0.05); AFBB patients were more likely to receive surgical therapy. The proportion of AFBB patients with stages I-IV of the disease who received radiation treatment also differed significantly from that of AMBB patients (p < 0.05); the latter were more likely to receive radiation therapy. Results from logistic regression analysis indicate that AFBB patients were more likely to receive surgical treatment while AMBB patients were more likely to receive radiation treatment. This study outcome can inform other NSCLC research to provide better insights to the cause of the treatment differences within the race from differing birth places, and efficient planning, evaluation of control programs and management of the disease.
