Designing Business Models of Tomorrow : Exploring the Expansion of Cleantech-as-a-Service through an Agile approachGudmundsson, Sofia, Lachini, Anaïs January 2021 (has links)
Background: Three mega trends are profoundly changing today’s market dynamics; climate change, digitalization, and globalization. The increasing interconnectivity and omnipresence of digital technologies are blurring the boundaries of the physical and virtual reality, implying a shift in how digital companies create value and internationalize. Also, new policies and higher customer demand in greener and smarter technologies have created new opportunities for value creation to develop cleaner technologies that foster the growth of clean-technology firms. To be competitive and persist in a sustainable and digital economy, firms must be able to cope with changing market conditions. Strategic agility can support to avoid rigidity and benefit from change, which is fostered by strong dynamic capabilities. Knowledge gaps: The study aims to address shortcomings of digital sustainability business models and specifically characterize the emerging sector of sustainable software companies offering Cleantech-as-a-Service applications. The international potential of these ventures recognizes the need to elaborate on internationalization drivers. The globally competitive environment enforces the need to be strategically agile, whereby applying agile principles to an international context can bring a comprehensive view of internationalizing digital sustainability ventures’ critical capabilities and business model characteristics. The study will also assert the role of collaborative ecosystems in an entrepreneurial internationalization. Purpose: This study will explore the emergence of Cleantech-as-a-Service and investigate how these digital entrepreneurs achieve strategic agility in global pivoting and competitive environments. Our exploratory research aims to apply agile principles to entrepreneurial internationalization strategies, where we through six in-depth interviews will discover the role of digital cleantech firms’ dynamic business models, capabilities, and ecosystems when entering a foreign market. Theoretical framework: The conceptual frame of references is based on two major sections where the first considers the context of digital and sustainable firms and exhibits the essences of digital and sustainable business model designs and how to sustain competitiveness through the interrelation of dynamic capabilities and strategic agility. In the second section the study brings forward theory supporting the exploration of an agile internationalization for digital firms, such as virtual markets and ecosystems. The key theoretical forthcomings are summarized into a conceptual framework that combines the role and interplay of entrepreneurs, business models, as well as networks and ecosystems on the basis of strategic agility and dynamic capabilities, that jointly foster an agile and virtual internationalization. Methodology: The interpretive research used an explorative and abductive approach to perform a qualitative multiple case design. The empirical study was based on six Cleantech-as-a-Service companies where in-depth semi-structured interviews were conducted with the informants of significant positions. The thematic and content data analysis supported the identification of common patterns and themes through coding which guided the subsequent analysis chapter. Findings: Our study revealed characteristics and success factors of Cleantech-as-a-Service ventures operating on global volatile markets, which adopt a leagile approach. The findings supported a definition of the concept but also identified the dynamic capabilities and flexible business models leveraged to sustain international competitive agility. The key agile capabilities relate to networking, experimenting, and learning whereas business model characteristics confer resiliency, interdependency, and efficiency.

[en] JOHN THE BAPTIST, THE GREATEST WOMEN BORN: AN EXEGETICAL ANALYSIS OF MT 11,2-15 / [pt] JOÃO, O BATISTA, O MAIOR ENTRE OS NASCIDOS DE MULHERES: UMA ANÁLISE EXEGÉTICA DE MT 11,2-15ADALBERTO DO CARMO TELLES 17 April 2020 (has links)
[en] This research deals with the greatest among women born based on the text of Mt 11,2-15. Based on this principle, the research addresses John the Baptist s testimony given by Jesus to the disciples around him. It is quite true that the life of John the Baptist is a riddle to be unraveled, given the little information offered about his life, except for that found in New Testament texts (Gospels and Acts of the Apostles). and in extrabiblical texts. In researching this pericope, we find a parallel in Luke 7,18-28, with its similarities and differences, which we will mention here in our study and approach. In this sense, this work makes an analysis of the base text researched here, using the historical context of Matthew, passing through the Matean community, where the Gospel was developed, and the testimony of Jesus was identified to John the Baptist. In another moment, we will make a status quaestionis on the theme John the Baptist, the greatest among the born of women in Mt 11,2-15 with the necessary contributions of some authors. Finally, we will make an exegesis of the pericope of Mt 11,2-15, following the criteria of the Historical-Critical Method and Biblical Rhetorical Analysis, in order to reach the proper meaning of the text, directing to the understanding of the theme: “John the Baptist, the greatest among women born: An exegetical analysis of Mt 11,2-15.

The Association of Immigration and Ethnicity with Adherene to Statins and Cardiac Rehabiltation Post-Myocardial Infarction: A sub-study of the ISLAND randomized controlled trial / Immigrants & Secondary Cardiac Prevention Therapy AdherenceShepherd, Shaun January 2018 (has links)
Adherence to guideline-recommended secondary cardiovascular prevention therapy (statins and cardiac rehabilitation) has been demonstrated to reduce the risk of all-cause mortality (Statins RRR 0.25, 95% CI 0.19-0.30; Cardiac Rehabilitation RRR 0.26, 95% CI 0.14-0.36) and secondary events.1,2 Yet, ≥50% of patients discontinue statin use within 12-month after an initial prescription and completion of cardiac rehabilitation is ≤20% in Ontario.3,4 Low statin adherence and cardiac rehab completion limits patients from realizing the full benefits of therapy.
A meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials of adherence to statins for secondary prevention reported that nonadherence to statins was greater in non-white ethnicities compared to white ethnicities (OR 1.28, 95% CI 1.04-1.59) with geographical variation in outcomes.5 In respect to cardiac rehabilitation, the literature suggests that non-white ethnicities are less likely to complete cardiac rehabilitation compared to white participants.6,7 However, a gap remains in our knowledge of cardiac rehabilitation completion among immigrants due to lack of outcome reporting across clinical trials. The literature suggests that immigrants have improved health profiles relative to Canadian-born patients. Specifically, immigrants with ≤10 years of Canadian residency have greater medication adherence than immigrants with >10 of Canadian residency when compared to Canadian-born participants.6-9
This thesis was a planned sub-study of the Interventions Supporting Long-Term Adherence and Decreasing Cardiovascular Events (ISLAND) randomized control trial. The ISLAND study was a pragmatic, randomized controlled trial investigating the effect of educational reminders on adherence to guideline-recommended therapy post-myocardial infarction. Study participants were allocated in a 1:1:1 ratio to one of three groups: i) usual care, ii) educational reminders sent via post, or iii) combination post and interactive voice response educational reminders. Investigators were blinded to the allocation sequence, participant allocation, and outcome assessment. Medication adherence and completion of cardiac rehabilitation were assessed 12-months from baseline. This sub-study of ISLAND focused on participants who completed a 12-month outcome assessment with a recorded response to the following question, “Were you born a Canadian citizen?”.
Immigrants experienced greater odds of statin adherence at 7-days (OR 1.36, 95% CI 1.00-1.85) and 30 days (OR 1.36, 95% CI 0.96-1.94) at one-year post-myocardial infarction, after adjusting for age, diabetes, sex, and smoking status. We found no evidence that immigration status was associated with cardiac rehabilitation completion (OR 0.91, 95% CI 0.72-1.14) after adjusting for age, diabetes, sex, smoking status, average neighborhood income quintile, education, and marital status. The odds of statin adherence at 7-days (OR 1.33, 95% CI 0.89-2.18) and 30-days (OR 1.39, 95% CI 0.89-2.18) was greater in visual minorities than white patients, however the difference was not statistically significant. We found no evidence of an association between ethnicity and cardiac rehabilitation completion (OR 0.98, 95% CI 0.75-1.29). Our analysis could not fully evaluate the healthy immigrant effect due to an insufficient sample size of immigrants with <10 years of Canadian residency exposure (n=29).
In conclusion, we report a statistically significant 36% increase in the odds of 7-day and 30-day statin adherence in immigrants compared to Canadian-born patients. We also report that the odds of cardiac rehabilitation decreased by 9% in immigrants compared to Canadian-born patients at 12-months post-myocardial infarction but this was not statistically significant. Our findings offer support for the “healthy immigrant effect” continuing in immigrants with >10 years of Canadian residency exposure. We were unable to evaluate outcomes in immigrants with <10 years Canadian residency exposure due to a lack of sample size (n=29). / Thesis / Master of Science (MSc) / The primary purpose of this research project was to assess whether immigrants, individuals who reside in Canada but were born outside of the country, who have experienced a previous heart attack were adhere to heart health therapies better than Canadian-born patients. The heart health therapies of interest to our investigation are two guideline-recommended heart attack prevention therapies, statins and cardiac rehabilitation.
The study design of our research project was a cohort sub-study of the ISLAND randomized control trial which investigated adherence to heart health therapies in patients residing in Ontario, Canada.
Our major finding was that immigrants who lived in Canada for >10 years were more adherent to statin therapy for a previous heart attack compared to Canadian-born participants. Our findings support the hypothesis that immigrants tend to demonstrate behaviours associated with improved outcomes compared to their Canadian-born counterparts.

Migration, Stress and Mental Ill Health : Post-migration Factors and Experiences in the Swedish Context / Migration, stress och mental ohälsa : Postmigrationsfaktorer och erfarenheter från den svenska kontextenTinghög, Petter January 2009 (has links)
This predominantly empirical dissertation deals with how socio-economic living conditions and immigrant-specific factors can be linked to immigrants’ mental ill health. It is also explored how cultural representations can affect stress and whether mental ill health is expressed differently among immigrants from Iraq and Iran than among individuals of Nordic origin. Moreover, a conceptual analysis is conducted, where a phenomenological conceptualisation of stress is outlined with a special focus on how this stress approach can be related to culture and migration. The empirical material consists of eleven in-depth interviews with Iraqi and Iranian immigrant women and two population-based surveys. The main findings of this thesis suggest as follows: 1) Mental ill health is more common among foreign-born than among native-born Swedes and can to a great extent be attributed to their poorer socio-economic living conditions. 2) Immigrants’ mental health is independently associated with different types of factors, such as traumatic episodes, socio-cultural adaptation level and socioeconomic living conditions. 3) The self-reporting mental health instruments, HSCL-25 and WHO (ten) Wellbeing Index, produce scores that are comparable between Scandinavians and immigrants of Middle Eastern descent. 4) Nonuniversal representations that can be found in Iraq and Iran can amplify, or even be necessary ingredients in certain types of stressful experiences among immigrant women from these countries. 5) The distinctions between universal and non-universal stress, and between immigrant/minority and non-immigrant/nonminority stress appear to be crucial for an adequate comprehension of immigrants’ stressful experiences.

Nonlinear optical phenomena within the discontinuous Galerkin time-domain methodHuynh, Dan-Nha 06 September 2018 (has links)
This thesis is concerned with the theoretical description of nonlinear optical phenomena with regards to the (numerical) discontinuous Galerkin time-domain (DGTD) method. It deals with two different material models: the hydrodynamic model for metals and the model for Raman-active dielectrics. In the first part, we review the hydrodynamic model for metals, where we apply a perturbative approach to the model. We use this approach to calculate the second-order nonlinear optical effects of second-harmonic generation and sum-frequency generation using the DGTD method. In this context, we will see how to optimize the second-order response of plasmonic nanoantennas by applying a deliberate tuning scheme for the optical excitations as well as by choosing an intelligent nanoantenna design. In the second part, we examine the material model for Raman-active dielectrics. In particular, we see how to derive the third-order nonlinear response by which one can describe the process of stimulated Raman scattering. We show how to incorporate this third-order response into the DGTD scheme yielding a novel set of auxiliary differential equations. Finally, we demonstrate the workings of the modified numerical scheme.

This research work focuses on the entry mode choices that best fit the needs of SMEs of engineering services which set up their business into emerging markets. The context is twofold: a country with transition economy, Russia, and the so-called « Born Global » SME of knowledge intensive business services (KIBS), operating in the oilfield sector. Our study tries to identify factors that may help successfully overcome the entry barriers in this particular context. To conduct this research, we used an empirical approach of primary data collected directly from the field. Our exploratory qualitative analysis has been carried out longitudinally and involves data collection of single case study over the period 2006-2013. The method of single case study was privileged in order to validate our research proposals that emerged from the theoretical background related to the works about: entry mode, « Born Global » SME, the internationalization of professional business service, networks. Our descriptive results indicate that « Born Global » KIBS firms attempt to set up their business by following their clients, through relationship marketing and networks approach as a tool to get an access to reliable information in the turbulent environment, reinforced by the offer differentiation, reactivity and a niche strategy. The work and the outcomes of KIBS cannot be immediately evaluated, which require to convince customers through the management of rhetorical skills of contact persons, image production and interactions with central clients. Moreover, our results show the importance of pre-export phase to perform better the set up project in the context of emerging market.

In this work, different double ionization (DI) mechanisms of various atomic and molecular targets by electron impact at different intermediate incident energies have been studied by so-called (e, 3-1e) and (e, 3e) experiments. Four and five fold differential cross sections in angle and in energy have been measured and analyzed in a coplanar geometry. The experimental measurements are compared with both first order and second order theoretical model calculations. The results shows that the theories including second order mechanism (such as Two Step 2, TS2) are generally in better agreement with the experimental data than these only including first order mechanisms (such as Shake Off and Two Step 1). This demonstrates that under present kinematics, second order mechanism plays an important role or even dominates over first order mechanisms. Besides, all DI results are compared with the predictions of TS2 kinematical analysis developed by Lahmam-Bennani et al (2010). Most of the structures shown in the measured angular distribution can be correctly explained by the TS2 kinematical analysis predictions. Besides, we extend this model by including the recoil contribution in each step. Some structures which cannot be explained by the previous model are well explained by the extended TS2 kinematical model. The isoelectronic target structure influence in DI is investigated preliminarily. The (e, 3-1e) results on Ne and CH₄ indicate the differences under same kinematics. The data analysis is underway.

Étude détaillée du deuxième terme de l'approximation de Born : applications à l'ionisation de l'atome d’Hydrogène et à la double ionisation de l'atome d’Hélium par impact d’électrons et de positrons / Full study of the second term of the Born approximation : applications on the ionization of the hydrogen atom and the helium atom by electron and positron impactsHmouda, Bassem 10 September 2014 (has links)
The perturbative methods, such as Born approximation, are necessary to solve the problems concerning the ionization of atoms and molecules by electrons or positrons impacts. In order to use Born approximation in an optimized way, we tested it on the simplest atom « Hydrogen » by using a basis of large amount of intermediate states (294) and complete numerical calculation without using the closure approximation whose application needs the introduction of a parameter which is the excitation mean value. Our results proved a significant agreement with the experiment particularly for small energies of the ejected electrons. We also proved an important contribution of the continuum (represented by the pseudo-states), and particularly the dipolar transition. For the double ionization of Helium atom, we applied the same methodology of complete calculation by including 20 intermediate states and pseudo-states and by using a configuration interaction wave function, we found that for high incident energy (5 keV) the effect of the second term of Born is almost zero. However, the application of the « SBA » with the closure approximation by using the fundamental state and the first excited states show a slight difference relative to the « FBA » particularly outside the transfer region. In case of low incident energy (601 eV), it was expected a crucial effect of the « SBA » especially that previous studies of (e, 3-1e) of Helium show a significant shift of the main peak relative to the « FBA ». So we can say that 20 intermediate states are not enough and the application of the « SBA » needs more states

Previous issue date: 2016-11-03 / Within the field of international business and entrepreneurship, the following project investigates an underexplored topic, namely the post- establishment performance of maturing Born Globals relative to younger Born Globals in Hispanic America. The scope is delimited to viewing performance as of sales growth in the manufacturing sector. A quantitative approach is applied, where firm- level secondary data from 14 Latin American countries is analyzed using multiple regression with interaction terms. The results illustrate that maturing Born Globals tend to have lower sales growth compared to younger Born Globals, while failing to detect that product innovation affect younger and maturing Born Globals differently. Access to finance as a moderator appear to be insignificant in the full sample, while the findings in the Peruvian context illustrate that the sales growth of maturing Peruvian Born Globals is more negatively affected by difficulties in obtaining finance relative to their younger counterparts.
