The diploma thesis deals with project management in Business Intelligence, a relatively new area of information systems. The first part of the thesis describes basic background of project management in general and some specifics of information systems project management. As one of the fundamental concepts, thinking about a project within its lifecycle is accented. The practical part examines the challenges of managing BI projects in a real financial institution in the Czech Republic. The aim of this section is to fill gaps in the existing project methodology of the financial institution by creating a mapping between the project lifecycle and processes of world-renowned PMBOK methodology.

Návrh a využití klíčových indikátoru výkonnosti podniku / Design and utilization of company key performance indicators

This thesis deals with a company performance management method in compliance with the key performance indicators. It addresses the KPIs' characteristics as well as the design process of the indices and their implementation procedures. It does not only rest with a description of the method itself but it also focuses on the related areas of the research such as managers' approach towards the corporate performance management or the business intelligence discipline. The theoretical part of the thesis focuses on building the model that makes it possible to design the KPIs with an emphasis on a successful delivery of the entire project. The methodology is based on a selection of the right indicators and application of the implementation techniques leading to a successful completion of the project. A special attention is dedicated to the CPM concept as a basic principal from which the key indicators derive. The practical part addresses the respective design of the KPIs. First of all, the KPIs are suggested to a banking institution. Afterwards, these indicators are confronted with the model drawn up in the theoretical part. The indicators are assessed consequently. The main contribution of this thesis is a development of a model that can serve as a guide for a proper KPIs design in a company and can add to a successful completion of the indicators' implementation. The findings of the research conducted for the purpose of this thesis could be put to use by the corporate managers who are interested in approaching the performance management methods also assessed in this dissertation.

Diploma thesis is focused on topics of strategic management, business performance management, Balanced Scorecard and Business Intelligence in the company, which operates in Education. Analyzes the current situation and then design and implement selected tools in a specific organization. Main objective is to design a system for monitoring the performance of medium-sized company through the application of the Balanced Scorecard. Not only for monitoring business performance, but also for the management of company itself. Partial objectives include the identification of strategic objectives, design of strategic map and implementation of selected part through Business Intelligence. Diploma thesis first looks at identifying the main risks and benefits of the BSC and BI. In addition, it also deals with the position of the BSC in practice at present, and current trends in BI. A key benefit of this work is another part, which deals with the relation of the parallel implementation of the Balanced Scorecard and Quality Management System according to ISO. The section devoted to design of the Balanced Scorecard strategic objectives are identified, plotted in the strategic map and accompanied by appropriate metrics. Inputs are the interviews, document study and experiences. The acquired information is verified through a questionnaire survey focused on strategic management and performance measurement. For a practical demonstration is realized Business Intelligence project of specific part of the BSC. Since the initial study, through analysis, design, dimensional analysis, modeling, data warehouse design through to the reports design, implementation and evaluation. Part of the work is to establish technological basis required for the implementation and operation of the project. The main benefit is primarily in the practical dimension. The outputs are designed primarily for management. It enables company to enter the world of the strategic management. Selected parts can also be utilized by any other company that deals with similar issues in management. Specifically, it's the relationship between BSC and QMS, BI trends, risks and benefits of the BSC and BI.

La dynamique d’hypercompétition qui sévit dans les grandes économies met toutes les entreprises dans un contexte de sélection compétitive. L’obtention du Graal de cette nouvelle économie, en l’occurrence l’avantage concurrentiel, dépend principalement de la faculté des entités créatrices de valeur à accroître leur capacité d’innovation et leur agilité stratégique. L’information et/ou la connaissance renseignant sur l’évolution de l’environnement des entreprises s’affirment comme les matières premières stimulant la créativité et l’agilité stratégique au niveau organisationnel. D’où un besoin accru d’optimiser la gestion de l’information et la production de connaissances. Les TIC apparaissent dans ce contexte comme un support d’optimisation de l’évolution de données brutes gravitant autour des environnements stratégiques en connaissances (cycle de l’intelligence économique). Leur caractère de levier d’innovation réside en effet dans leur capacité à industrialiser la production de connaissances. Cependant, la subjectivité de la capacité d’absorption de nouvelles informations et la dimension tacite de la connaissance font que les technologies informatiques soient incapables d’automatiser parfaitement le cycle de l’intelligence économique. / The dynamic of hypercompetition that exists in the major economies puts all businesses in a context of competitive selection. Obtaining the Grail of this new economy, namely the competitive advantage, mainly depends on the ability of companies to increase their capacity for innovation and their strategic agility. The information and / or the knowledge inquiring about the evolution of the business environment appear as raw materials stimulating creativity and strategic agility of the firms. Whence an increased need to optimize the management of information and the production of knowledge. ICT are in this context as a support for optimizing the evolution of raw data into knowledge (cycle of business intelligence). Their character of innovation lever lies indeed in their ability to industrialize the production of knowledge. However, the subjectivity of the absorption capacity of news informations and the tacit dimension of knowledge explain that computer technologies are unable to fully automate the cycle of economic intelligence.

Este trabalho propõe o uso de Sistemas de Informação e Inteligência Empresarial visando a Análise Inteligente de Falhas para Apoiar Decisões Estratégicas em Projetos de Sistemas Críticos. Tal proposta estabelece uma correlação entre a dinâmica proveniente de recursos e ferramentas de Sistemas de Informação e Inteligência Empresarial, e a necessidade de se obter informações precisas, em intervalos de tempo aceitáveis para agregar valores tangíveis na segurança, confiabilidade, disponibilidade e mantenabilidade de Sistemas Críticos. A proposta aqui apresentada vem ao encontro da necessidade premente de disponibilizar, com maior eficácia, informações precisas para a aferição de indicadores importantes ao Projeto de Sistemas Críticos, e favorecer a implementação de ações mitigadoras de falhas que possam vir a comprometer o funcionamento desses sistemas. De forma a completar e consolidar a proposta em questão desenvolveu-se um ambiente computacional, utilizando-se dos fundamentos teóricos e das melhores práticas de Sistemas de Informação e Inteligência Empresarial, com as especificidades inerentes a Sistemas Críticos. Avaliou-se tal ambiente em um estudo de caso desenvolvido no Sistema Metroviário de São Paulo. Esse estudo de caso contribuiu, no aspecto conceitual, com a realização de ensaios de análises qualitativas e quantitativas de falhas, fornecendo informações relevantes para apoiar possíveis decisões estratégicas no sistema estudado. / This work proposes the use of Information Systems and Business Intelligence aiming an Intelligent Analysis of Failure that supports Strategic Decision Making in Critical Systems Projects. This proposition establishes a correlation between the dynamics of resources and tools from Information Systems and Business Intelligence, and the need to obtain accurate information within an acceptable time interval to add tangible value in security, reliability, availability and maintainability of Critical Systems. The proposition presented here meets the need to provide, more efficiently, accurate information to measure relevant indicators of the projects in Critical Systems, and favor the implementation of failure mitigating actions that could come to compromise the functioning of these systems. In order to complete and consolidate the proposition in question, a computational environment was developed, making use of the theoretical bases and of the best practices of Systems of Information and Business Intelligence, with the peculiarities inherent to Critical Systems. Such environment was evaluated in a case study in the Metrorail Company of São Paulo State, in which qualitative and quantitative analysis of failures were tested, providing relevant information to support possible strategic decisions in the system studied.

Nos últimos anos, a utilização do Data Warehouse mudou significativamente. Nos dias de hoje, as empresas precisam distribuir informações, num intervalo de tempo adequado, para os colaboradores que atuam na linha de frente do negócio, de modo que estes possam obter um desempenho superior na execução de suas tarefas. O presente trabalho apresenta as novas tendências em inteligência empresarial, dando destaque aos aspectos táticos e operacionais, a necessidade de redução na latência de atualização dos dados, as limitações do ambiente de Data Warehouse nesse contexto. O desenvolvimento deste trabalho baseou-se na revisão da literatura existente, no estudo de novos mecanismos de integração de dados, na apresentação de casos reais de aplicação e em um relato de caso prático. Este trabalho buscou destacar o papel fundamental que as novas tecnologias de integração de dados têm na criação de novos sistemas de apoio e automação de decisões nas empresas realizando negócios em tempo real. / During the last years many things have changed in the utilization the Data Warehouse. Nowadays, enterprises need to distribute information in a timely fashion to front-line workers, enabling them to deliver superior performance in the execution of their duties. This work presents new trends in business intelligence, emphasizing the tactical and operational aspects, the demand for reducing data latency, the limitations of the Data Warehouse in this context. The development of this work was based on the review of existing literature, the study of new mechanisms for data integration, the presentation of real case scenarios of application and a practical case story. This study highlights the key role that the new data integration technologies have while are creating new automating decisions systems in companies doing business in real time.

Fatores críticos de sucesso para ferramentas de Business Analytics. / Critical success factors of business analytics tools.

Atualmente vivemos em uma sociedade com a maior quantidade de dados já disponíveis em toda a história, e ao mesmo tempo que ocorre o crescimento desta vasta quantidade de informações dispersas, os ambientes empresariais tornaram-se cada vez mais complexos e competitivos. Nos quais gestores necessitam detectar e, se possível, prever tendências para estruturar planos de ação através de análises simples e/ou, por vezes, extremamente complexas dos dados. Dessa forma, o potencial impacto nas organizações referentes à utilização dessas informações em sua gestão tem chamado a atenção tanto de executivos com de pesquisadores. Esta pesquisa buscou identificar os fatores de sucesso de sistemas de Business Analytics (BA) e avaliar empiricamente suas relações de causalidade, sendo utilizada a metodologia de pesquisa científica de Levantamento tipo Survey e a técnica estatística de Modelagem de Equações Estruturais. Além de contribuir com a expansão do conhecimento relacionado a área de Business Analytics, esta dissertação apresentou uma discussão e proposta de delimitação do conceito de BA frente demais termos relacionados a literatura de sistemas de suporte a decisão (i.e. BI, Big Data e Inteligência Competitiva) e a estruturação de uma ferramenta de mensuração de sucesso de SI de BA baseado no modelo apresentado por Delone e McLean. Após a delimitação do conceito de BA, foi discutido os fatores críticos de sucesso (FCS) presentes na literatura e suas particularidades frente a sistemas transacionais (e.g. Enterprise Resource Planning). Os quais foram estruturados em 3 dimensões e 4 construtos: Tecnologia (Qualidade dos dados), Cultura organizacional (Gestão Baseada em Fatos e Engajamento dos executivos) e Pessoas (Qualidade da Equipe). Nesta análise, a Cultura Organizacional apresentou a maior relevância no sucesso de SI (i.e. Uso da Informação e Impacto Individual) dentre as 3 dimensões. Como alta impacto tanto do engajamento dos executivos, como da Cultura organizacional de gestão baseada em fatos. / We have never lived in a society with such amount of data available where, at the same time of this dispersed information growth, managers and decision makers are facing the most challenging and competitive business environment they have ever seen. Being necessary to detect and, if it is possible, predict trends based on simple and/or complex data analysis in order to structure action plans. In this context, the potential impact of data based management on organizations has increased and have been drawing attention of scholars and executives. This research focused on identify critical success factors of Business Analytics (BA) systems and analyze their causal relationship. It was conducted by survey methodology and the statistical technique selected was structural equation modeling (Partial Least Square). Besides the contribution to the body of knowledge of Business Analytics field, this dissertation presents a theoretical discussion about BA definition, its relationship with order support decision systems terms often present on literature (i.e. Business Intelligence, Big Data and Competitive Intelligence), and a search tool for information system success based on DeLone and McLean model. The proposition of critical success factors of Business Analytics systems were based on a comprehensive literature review and were classified into 3 groups and 4 constructs: Technology (Data Quality), Organizational culture (Fact-based management and Executive engagement) and People (Team knowledge and skill). Organizational Culture showed more relevance on Business Analytics system success (i.e. Information Use and Individual Impact) them Technology and People, with high impact of both constructs (Fact-based management and Executive engagement).

Este estudo utilizou o método de Design Research em empresa do setor de plástico industrial. A proposta do sistema financeiro foi desenvolvida seguindo as seguintes etapas: 1 – identificação do sistema atual; 2 – identificações de variáveis estratégicas; 3 – quantificação das variáveis estratégicas com o uso de matrizes; 4 – cálculo de importância das variáveis estratégicas através de algoritmo difuso. Esta etapa gerou um ranking de importâncias ou prioridades. Com o ranking foi possível reconfigurar o sistema de Business Intelligence usado na empresa. Após a reconfiguração no contexto da governança da tecnologia de informação foi identificada a necessidade de uma maior evidenciação financeira. Para atender tal necessidade foi usada a linguagem XBRL e validada pelo Controller como satisfatória. Além disso, também f / This study developed a proposal for the strategic redesign of a finance system in the context of IT Governance supported by fuzzy logic algorithm. This study used a Design Research method in company of the plastic industrial sector. A new proposal was developed following these stages: 1 – Identification of current system; 2 – Identification of strategic variables; 3 – Quantification of strategic variables using matrixes; 4 – Calculation of the importance of strategic variables using a compensatory fuzzy logic algorithm. This stage created a ranking of importance or priorities. This ranking generated a redesigned system of Business Intelligence now used in the company. After the redesign in the IT context a necessity for financial disclosure was identified. XBRL language was used to do this and was validated by the company’s Controller as satisfactory. The following requisites were also identified: brand/image and costs optimization related to alignment of IT and strategy.
