Pay per screen: developing Result-oriented PSS in Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises : A case study at a mercury recycling equipment manufacturer

Maaruf, Prosha, Mohamed Abdi, Anab January 2017 (has links)
Today’s companies are struggling with the competitive environment driven by resource scarcity, technical progress and market demand for increased value and flexibility. For these reasons companies are shifting their focus from selling products to selling need fulfillment. The result-oriented product-service (PSS) is a PSS type that provides value mainly through delivery of services with the premise of the producer taking responsibility over the entire product life cycle. It is highlighted in the literature as a business strategy to generate a high profit and stable the revenue. Despite the new market opportunities related to the provision of PSS, it inherently comes with complexity linked to the extended responsibility. More importantly, very little is mentioned in the PSS literature regarding real case PSS development and how service-oriented PSS contracting impacts Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs). The objective of this thesis is to examine how result-oriented PSS can create new opportunities for SMEs. It is targeting to explore this topic from a cost and value creation perspective for both the company and customer. To achieve the objective a main research question is stated which answer is given by answering the two sub questions as below. How can a result-oriented product-service system be implemented in small and medium-sized enterprises? 1. What result-oriented PSS solution can be designed for the recycling equipment industry to increase the value for both the manufacturer and the customer? 2. What are the financial implications of a result-oriented PSS? To explore answers for the research questions, a case study inquiry is carried out on MRT (Mercury Recovery Technology) System International AB. It is a small international recycling equipment manufacturer in Karlskrona. A PSS development process resulting in a new concept referred to as “Pay per screen” is developed. The development and analysis of the result-oriented PSS shows that it is more profitable for the company to offer the proposed Pay per screen concept compared to the current product- oriented business. Even the customer has proven to be profitable while providing several advantages such as avoid being responsible for initial investment and maintenance costs.

Design and Implementation of a Model-Driven Software Production Method: from Strategy to Code

Noel López, René Alejandro 15 April 2024 (has links)
[EN] New, disruptive technologies emerge daily, changing the world as we know it: how we learn, work, and socially interact. This ever-changing scenario pushes organisations to quickly adapt not only their products and services but also their structure and strategies to survive and thrive. As has been widely studied, aligning information technology to high-level goals is key for an organisation to adapt quickly to its environment. Model-driven development (MDD) methods have contributed to this by systematically including business goals in the software development process, providing traceability, quality and efficiency through model-to-model transformations. Yet, existing MDD methods have not included organisational strategy and structure in the development process. This thesis integrates organisational information into a baseline MDD method composed of the OO-Method, an object-oriented model-driven development method, and Communication Analysis, a communication-oriented business process modelling method. The baseline MDD method is extended by the main contributions of this thesis: LiteStrat, an organisational modelling method, and Stra2Bis, a method for designing strategically aligned business processes. LiteStrat supports modelling the external influences that drive new software development endeavours and the strategy and organisational structure to address such influence. Stra2Bis integrates LiteStrat and Communication Analysis through three model-to-model transformation guidelines, generating the scaffold of business processes aligned with the organisation's structure and strategy. Sound experimental validations were performed to assess the methods' improvements in completeness and accuracy and their effect on the method users' efficiency and satisfaction. Further work regards implementing the methods into industrial contexts and their continuous evolution.

Souza, Rafael Xavier de Oliveira 27 February 2014 (has links)
Requirements Engineering (ER) has an important role in Software Engineering for being an early stage of the software development process. ER serves as the basis for implementation of other activities, contributing decisively to the quality of the final software product. Requirements Elicitation process is among the main concerns of ER. It involves the recognition and description of customer needs, in such a way that it is possible to reflect the business accurately and consistent. Moreover, in general, most problems that occur during the process of software development are caused by failures in the early stages. In this context, emerging approaches such as Model-Driven Developement (MDD) and Business Process Modeling (MPN). Such approaches seek to understand and describe business processes and enable a closer look of the domain. As well, especially when backed by support tools, using approaches such as MDD and MPN can contribute to improving the quality of the requirements and the requirements Elicitation process. This work presents ModelER approach, which seeks to promote improvements in Requirements Elicitation process, through the use of concepts and practices of the MDD and the MPN for identifying software requirements.

Разработка инструментов эффективного обучения в области решения задач с применением системы дистанционного обучения : магистерская диссертация / Development of tools of the effective training in the field of tasks solving by using a distance learning system

Ю., Nazarova, Y. Y. January 2019 (has links)
At the moment, there is a low level of students’ knowledge in natural sciences. The problem is particularly acute in the field of tasks solving. This paper offers actual ways to solve a task by developing a universal technology for solving tasks. This technology will become the basis for training courses aimed at filling students' knowledge gaps and improving their ability to solve tasks. The paper also considers the automation of educational activities of the Network Engineering School. As a result of the work, the current level of schoolchildren’s training was determined and the causes of the problem were identified. The existing methods of solving tasks were analyzed and identified their shortcomings. A universal technology for solving problems using the method of tabular analysis has been developed and its mathematical justification has been given. Compiled methodological manual and published in scientific journals. The business processes of the Network Engineering School were also automated: a distance learning system was introduced into the learning process. The obtained results have already been applied in practice: the developed methodology has become the base of mathematics course at the Network Engineering School, in which classes are already being held. Also, the effectiveness of the methodology was evaluated during a study conducted on the basis of the school Olympiad. In addition, an assessment of the effectiveness of the project on the implementation of a distance learning system was made and it was revealed that the project is profitable. A methodology for modeling healthcare teams and an evaluation of Business Process Modeling Notation as a Modeling Language

Ojo, Tolulope A. 15 February 2012 (has links)
Whether it is offering services, delivering solutions or driving innovations, team work has been a hallmark of efficiency and effectiveness in various industries. The healthcare industry is not left out as its service delivery process involves numerous interfaces, information flows and patient hand-offs among professionals with different educational training, differing knowledge levels and possibly working from different locations as well. As healthcare delivery evolves to being more patient-centered, so does the team settings as well, becoming more collaborative. Such changes also translate into a need for support systems to evolve to be able to provide support for the extent of collaboration that would be needed. A framework is needed to guide in the development of such systems. However, due to the varying needs of patients, team types and make-up would generally differ, so we explored the different types of team settings studying what they entail based on their various degrees of collaboration. We therefore present in this thesis a model of team based concepts, an ontology formalizing the model, team based scenarios designed using the ontology and then application of the scenarios to test the ability of BPMN (Business Process Modeling Notation) to model healthcare teams.
