NEEL+: Supporting Predicates for Nested Complex Event Processing

Zhang, Dazhi 27 August 2012 (has links)
"Complex event processing (CEP) has become increasingly important in modern applications, ranging from supply chain management for RFID tracking to real-time intrusion detection. These monitoring applications must detect complex event pattern sequences in event streams. However, the state-of-art in the CEP literature such as SASE, ZStream or Cayuga either do not support the specification of nesting for pattern queries altogether or they limit the nesting of non-occurrence expressions over composite event types. A recent work by Liu et al proposed a nested complex event pattern expression language, called NEEL (Nested Complex Event Language), that supports the specification of the non-occurrence over complex expressions. However, their work did not carefully consider predicate handling in these nested queries, especially in the context of complex negation. Yet it is well-known that predicate specification is a critical component of any query language. To overcome this gap, we now design a nested complex event pattern expression language called NEEL+, as an extension of the NEEL language, specifying nested CEP queries with predicates. We rigorously define the syntax and semantics of the NEEL+ language, with particular focus on predicate scoping and predicate placement. Accordingly, we introduce a top-down execution paradigm which recursively computes a nested NEEL+ query from the outermost query to the innermost one. We integrate predicate evaluation as part of the overall query evaluation process. Moreover, we design two optimization techniques that reduce the computation costs for processing NEEL+ queries. One, the intra-query method, called predicate push-in, optimizes each individual query component of a nested query by pushing the predicate evaluation into the process of computing the query rather than evaluating predicates at the end of the computation of that particular query. Two, the inter-query method, called predicate shortcutting, optimizes inter-query predicate evaluation. That is, it evaluates the predicates that correlate different query components within a nested query by exploiting a light weight predicate short cut. The NEEL+ system caches values of the equivalence attributes from the incoming data stream. When the computation starts, the system checks the existence of the attribute value of the outer query component in the cache and the predicate acts as a shortcut to early terminate the computation. Lastly, we conduct experimental studies to evaluate the CPU processing resources of the NEEL+ System with and without optimization techniques using real-world stock trading data streams. Our results confirm that our optimization techniques when applied to NEEL+ in a rich variety of cases result in a 10 fold faster query processing performance than the NEEL+ system without optimization."

Angiogénèse et CD146 dans les gammapathies monoclonales / Angiogenesis and CD146 receptor in monoclonal gammopathies

Cabasse, Clémence 16 December 2013 (has links)
Multiple Myeloma is a neoplastic plasma-cell disorder that is characterized by clonal proliferation of malignant plasma cells in the bone marrow microenvironment. It accounts for approximately 13% of hematologic cancer and the ten year survival rate is approximately 30%. CD 146 is an adhesion molecule (CAM) that is essentially expressed at endothelial junctions. At first, CD 146 was identified as a tumor marker of melanoma. It subsequently was studied in conjunction with cancer of the kidney, the breast, the lung, as well as gastric cancers and osteosarcomas. Its expression is most often associated with a bad prognosis. For the first time we have shown that this molecule is expressed at the surface of normal plasma cells, this expression appearing during the late stages of B cell differentiation. We have demonstrated that this expression was modulated on Multiple Myeloma (MM) plasma cells, and and was significantly decreased or disappeared in malignant plasma cells. Moreover, we have shown that CD146 was an independent good prognostic marker and that it was implicated in mechanisms that confers a survival advantage to the tumor cell. The next part of the project consisted to set up a detection protocol for circulating endothelial cells in blood and bone marrow in multiple myeloma in order to develop a tool for studying angiogenesis in this pathology which can also be used during therapeutic monitoring.

L'exil de Jan Cep : contribution à l’histoire de la littérature tchèque moderne / Exile of Jan Cep : contribution to the history of the moderne Czech literature

Zatloukal, Jan 24 September 2008 (has links)
The Czech writer Jan Cep (1902-1974), one of important mediators of French-Czech cultural relations between the two World Wars, was forced to emigrate after the Communist coup in 1948. As Cep was the friend and translator of Pourrat and Bernanos, he naturally chose France as his adoptive homeland. Nevertheless, exile in Paris turned into a harsh existential ordeal for Cep. Difficult material conditions, linguistic disunity, and the fact that his writing was not accepted by a new audience made Cep an outsider in a French literary life. This status led to his increased involvement in the Czech émigré community, especially work on the Czechoslovak editorial staff of Radio Free Europe, where he developed his essay style in meditations infused with Christian humanism. The autobiographical essay My Sister Anxiety, written in French in the 1960s, repesents a summary of Cep’s life and ideas / Ceský spisovatel Jan Cep (1902-1974), jeden z významných prostredníku meziválecných cesko-francouzských kulturních vztahu, byl po komunistickém puci v roce 1948 prinucen k emigraci. Sumu svého života a myšlení podal Cep v autobiografickém eseji Sestra úzkost, kterou napsal v šedesátých letech prímo francouzsky

Robust Complex Event Pattern Detection over Streams

Li, Ming 04 April 2010 (has links)
Event stream processing (ESP) has become increasingly important in modern applications. In this dissertation, I focus on providing a robust ESP solution by meeting three major research challenges regarding the robustness of ESP systems: (1) while event constraint of the input stream is available, applying such semantic information in the event processing; (2) handling event streams with out-of-order data arrival and (3) handling event streams with interval-based temporal semantics. The following are the three corresponding research tasks completed by the dissertation: Task I - Constraint-Aware Complex Event Pattern Detection over Streams. In this task, a framework for constraint-aware pattern detection over event streams is designed, which on the fly checks the query satisfiability / unsatisfiability using a lightweight reasoning mechanism and adjusts the processing strategy dynamically by producing early feedback, releasing unnecessary system resources and terminating corresponding pattern monitor. Task II - Complex Event Pattern Detection over Streams with Out-of-Order Data Arrival. In this task, a mechanism to address the problem of processing event queries specified over streams that may contain out-of-order data is studied, which provides new physical implementation strategies for the core stream algebra operators such as sequence scan, pattern construction and negation filtering. Task III - Complex Event Pattern Detection over Streams with Interval-Based Temporal Semantics. In this task, an expressive language to represent the required temporal patterns among streaming interval events is introduced and the corresponding temporal operator ISEQ is designed.

Amplification paramétrique ultra-large bande dans l’ infrarouge en régime de forte énergie et de forte puissance moyenne / High energy and high repetition rate broadband optical parametric amplification in the infrared

Nillon, Julien 15 June 2012 (has links)
While attosecond science reaches new frontiers in physics, the need for innovative primary sources suited for the generation of single attosecond (as) pulses emerges. Featuring high tunability, ultra-broadband amplification bandwidth and the ability of passively stabilizing the random Carrier-Envelope Phase (CEP) of any pump laser, Optical Parametric Amplification (OPA) has proven to be one of the most effective tools to meet the stringent requirements of High-Order Harmonics (HHG) driving sources. Moreover, there is a growing interest for higher repetition rate HHG sources, pumped by Ytterbium-doped fiber lasers. High-repetition rate, CEP-stable, few cycle pulses have been successfully generated by OPAs operating in the visible part of the spectrum. Shifting the amplified bandwidth towards longer wavelengths would be clearly profitable. In fact, the shorter harmonic wavelength cut-off will allow significantly extending the harmonics spectrum and consequently shorten as pulse durations. Until know, generation of CEP-stable, few-cycle pulses in the infrared at ultra-high repetition rates was impossible due to the issue of generating a broadband infrared seed directly from a fiber laser. This thesis describes the implementation of new supercontinuum-seeded parametric sources, specifically designed for isolated attosecond pulses generation with high energy or high repetition rate. The development of a CEP-stable three-stages OPA source is reported, amplifying a 700 nm broad spectrum at a central wavelength of 1,75 µm with an energy of 450 µJ at a 10 Hz repetition rate. Then, a new architecture based on a two-stage cascaded OPA pumped by a home-made fiber laser is presented, which allowed us to generate CEP-stable 3-cycles pulses at the central wavelength of 2,2 µm, with an energy of 5 µJ at 100 kHz. Finally, we discuss the possibility of increasing the output power of parametric amplifiers to several tens of watts with broadband parametric combination of several fiber-pump beams.

Speculation in Parallel and Distributed Event Processing Systems

Brito, Andrey 09 August 2010 (has links) (PDF)
Event stream processing (ESP) applications enable the real-time processing of continuous flows of data. Algorithmic trading, network monitoring, and processing data from sensor networks are good examples of applications that traditionally rely upon ESP systems. In addition, technological advances are resulting in an increasing number of devices that are network enabled, producing information that can be automatically collected and processed. This increasing availability of on-line data motivates the development of new and more sophisticated applications that require low-latency processing of large volumes of data. ESP applications are composed of an acyclic graph of operators that is traversed by the data. Inside each operator, the events can be transformed, aggregated, enriched, or filtered out. Some of these operations depend only on the current input events, such operations are called stateless. Other operations, however, depend not only on the current event, but also on a state built during the processing of previous events. Such operations are, therefore, named stateful. As the number of ESP applications grows, there are increasingly strong requirements, which are often difficult to satisfy. In this dissertation, we address two challenges created by the use of stateful operations in a ESP application: (i) stateful operators can be bottlenecks because they are sensitive to the order of events and cannot be trivially parallelized by replication; and (ii), if failures are to be tolerated, the accumulated state of an stateful operator needs to be saved, saving this state traditionally imposes considerable performance costs. Our approach is to evaluate the use of speculation to address these two issues. For handling ordering and parallelization issues in a stateful operator, we propose a speculative approach that both reduces latency when the operator must wait for the correct ordering of the events and improves throughput when the operation in hand is parallelizable. In addition, our approach does not require that user understand concurrent programming or that he or she needs to consider out-of-order execution when writing the operations. For fault-tolerant applications, traditional approaches have imposed prohibitive performance costs due to pessimistic schemes. We extend such approaches, using speculation to mask the cost of fault tolerance.

In this work, we investigated the CEP for RFID and found that the main standards in the area, defined by EPCglobal, do not address adequately the application needs for handling complex events. So we developed the CEPFID Middleware, a software platform that simplifies the development of RFID applications providing the discovery of complex events in the EPC Network. Due to need to adapt the middleware to different application scenarios of RFID technology, we designed an extensible architecture that enables the inclusion of new services for the processing and discovery of complex events.
