Spánek a snění v českém obrazu světa / Sleep and dream in the Czech picture of the world

Bulak, Patrik January 2016 (has links)
The thesis focuses on the conceptual area of sleeping (including waking, dreaming etc.) based on the theories and methods of the cognitive-cultural approach to language. The first chapter deals with the human experience of sleeping. The conceptual area is interpreted both in relation to physical experience and as a part of the Central European cultural code. The second chapter concentrates on the concept and the approach of the linguistic picture of the world (e.g. Bartmiński, 2012), the detection and verification of the semantic connotations method (Bartmiński, Panasiuk, 2001), the conceptual metaphor theory (Lakoff, Johnson, 1980/2002), the cognitive conception of metonymy (cf. ibid), and the interaction between metaphor and metonymy (i.e. metaphtonymy, Goosens, 1990, 2002). The third chapter is based on the linguistic data excerpted from various Czech dictionaries and describes the conceptual area. First are introduced derivational nests, then relevant semantic relations and etymology of the selected terms (spát, bdít etc.). The chapter also analyses polysemy of the selected terms in detail, as well as polysemy of their derivatives. This part of the thesis presents the formulation of conceptual transmissions which are manifested in the given linguistic meanings. The fourth chapter is a...

Smrt, posmrtný život a umírání v jazykovém obrazu světa žáků českých a krajanských základních a středních škol / The Linguistic Picture of Death, Afterlife and Dying in Primary and Secondary School Pupils

Wildová, Zuzana January 2019 (has links)
The dissertation The Linguistic Picture of Death, Afterlife and Dying in Primary and Secondary School Pupils is devoted to the reconstruction of the linguistic picture of death in these groups of pupils, its mutual comparison and its comparison with the developed psychological concept of death. Furthermore, it describes how the taboo of this topic manifests itself in the pupils' linguistic picture of death and which modifications of the linguistic picture of the world are shown in the linguistic picture of death among pupils. In the first part, the dissertation deals with the concept of death in language and culture, and thus also with the linguistic and socio-cultural taboo of this phenomenon. We deal with the development of the conception of death in history and also the development of the concept of death of children and youth. The theoretical frame for this work is based on the methods of cognitive linguistics and its approach to linguistic research. We characterize this linguistic approach, its methods and the main representatives in the next part of the work. We use cognitive linguist methods not only for processing but also for collecting language data. In the third part, we analyze system, text and empirical language data. Textual data are derived from texts of intentional literature for...

Sémantická analýza vybraných českých klíčových slov. Teorie přirozeného sémantického metajazyka v češtině / Semantic Analysis of Selected Czech Key Words. Theory of Natural Semantic Metalanguage Applied to Czech

Pavlásková, Marie January 2017 (has links)
Diploma thesis, which is based on Anna Wierzbicka's natural semantic metalanguage theory, discusses certain specific features of Czech language worldview and compares them with specific features of English language worldview. This intercultural comparison is made possible by the cultural neutrality of the natural semantic metalanguage which serves as a language in which explications of analyzed words are formulated and compared to their English counterparts. Analyses of Czech keywords are based mainly on the use of dictionaries (explanatory and etymological dictionaries and dictionaries of phrases and idioms) and Czech corpora. The analysis aims to show differences between Czech and English cultural norms and values as reflected in different semantic structures of analyzed concepts, which presumably indicate deeper differences in perceiving and interpreting reality in both languages.

Teorie rámců a její edukační možnosti / Theory of Frames and its Educational Possibilities

Huleja, Jan January 2018 (has links)
Theory of Frames and its Educational Possibilities Jan Huleja Czech Language Departement PhDr. Ladislav Janovec, Ph.D. Abstract The dissertation Theory of Frames and its Educational Possibilities consists of a theoretical, practical and didactic chapter. The theme of the first chapter is the Theory of Frames that includes a variety of concepts and theoretical views across different humanities and social disciplines that discuss how individuals, groups and societies perceive and organize reality and how they communicate about it. In the next part of the dissertation the application Frames of Ostrava in the Czech Linguistic Picture of the World demonstrates the potential of the Theory of Frames for cultural-linguistic and discourse analyzes. It analyses an extensive and representative sample of Czech language material (text, system and empirical language data) and attempts to reconstruct the Czech linguistic picture of Ostrava. We are focusing on what frames the picture of Ostrava is composed of, i. e. how it is predominantly portrayed by the users of the Czech language, how they narrate about it. At the same time our aim is to present Ostrava as a significant Czech cultural and social phenomenon evoked by such lexical units and structured by such conceptual means that are unmistakably "Ostravian" in the text...

Retaining or losing the conceptual metaphor : A study on institutional translation of metaphors in political discourse from English into Swedish and Spanish

Eriksson, Ingrid January 2019 (has links)
The translation of metaphors has been analyzed and discussed for several decades, but there are not many multilingual studies that examine how metaphors are translated. The present study takes a cognitive approach to metaphor and investigates how translators at the European Commission handle metaphorical expressions and the underlying conceptual metaphors in political discourse. The source text is the English language version of the policy document A European Agenda on Migration, and the Swedish and Spanish language versions of it are included as target texts. The study identifies the conceptual metaphors that conceptualize migration and other topics that are closely related to the European migrant and refugee crisis of 2015 and the translation procedures that are used. A total of six translation procedures were found in the target texts, and the most used procedure in the Spanish target text was to retain both the conceptual metaphor and the metaphorical expression, whereas the most used procedure in the Swedish target text was to replace the metaphorical expression with a completely different one and thereby using a different conceptual metaphor. The parallel analysis of all three language versions also revealed that non-metaphorical expressions in the source text were occasionally replaced with metaphorical expressions in the target texts, which proves that adding a conceptual metaphor is one of many translation procedures. The most frequently used source domains in the source text, i.e. water, enemy and applied force, were transferred to both target texts. Some source domains were eventually lost, but a couple of new ones, such as disease and weight, were added instead.

Gestikulace a eventuálnost: mezijazyková studie / Gesture and eventuality: a cross-linguistic study

Jehlička, Jakub January 2021 (has links)

The acquisition of the English article system by Japanese learners of English as a foreign language : learning noun countability / 日本人学習者による英語冠詞システムの習得 : 名詞可算性の学習 / ニホンジン ガクシュウシャ ニヨル エイゴ カンシ システム ノ シュウトク : メイシ カサンセイ ノ ガクシュウ

都竹 絢子, Ayako Tsuzuku 20 March 2022 (has links)
英語の冠詞システムは、冠詞システムを持たない日本語を母語とする日本人学習者にとって、習得の難しい文法項目であるとされている。その原因の1つとして、冠詞使用に影響する英語名詞の可算性について正しく理解できていない、という理由が考えられる。本研究では、2つの実験研究を行い、日本人学習者が名詞の可算性を学習することで、英語冠詞を適切に使用できるようになるのかを調査した。 / The acquisition of the English article system is difficult for learners of English, especially when these learners do not have any article systems in their first language. One reason for their difficulty with English article usage is considered to stem from their inadequate understanding about noun countability. The present study examined the extent to which learning noun countability prompts Japanese learners' appropriate usage of English articles. / 博士(英語学) / Doctor of Philosophy in English Linguistics / 同志社大学 / Doshisha University
