Perspectiva religiosa y renovación literaria en los Himnos de Calímaco

La presente tesis consiste en el análisis de los Himnos de Calímaco, en particular los llamados “diegéticos” (o “no miméticos”), es decir, los Himnos 1, 3 y 4, cuya posibilidad de performance, especialmente la de tipo cultual, ha sido generalmente descartada por la crítica tradicional. En ellos, sin embargo, es posible encontrar no solo marcas de oralidad y performance, sino también la presencia de la tradición mítica y religiosa griega estrechamente relacionada con la vivencia helenística de las performances poéticas y cultuales. También consideramos los elementos orientales de los Himnos, propios del nuevo ámbito egipcio de la cultura griega alejandrina, que con frecuencia han sido ignorados. A partir del desarrollo de los enfoques recientes en la investigación sobre la poesía helenística y su relevancia cultural, especialmente la poesía de Calímaco, nos proponemos articular el estudio de la literatura griega arcaica y clásica con la literatura helenística, mediante el examen del tratamiento calimaqueo de las fuentes poéticas; y verificar los procesos de continuidad y transformación en la tradición poética griega sobre la base de la representación del contexto cultural y religioso, confrontando los textos poéticos con testimonios del contexto. Sostenemos la continuidad de la lírica arcaica a la poesía helenística con la necesaria adaptación al medio alejandrino; y la necesidad de superar la imagen de la poesía helenística y alejandrina como productos de una etapa decadente de la civilización griega, y de recuperar la relevancia del período alejandrino en los aspectos de transmisión y recomposición poéticos. También procuramos una visión integradora de la obra de Calímaco con su contexto mediante el examen de testimonios y fuentes secundarios, en el afán de superar la visión de la crítica tradicional, que considera al poeta alejandrino como un erudito aislado de su época. / This thesis analyses the Hymns of Callimachus, in particular the so-called diegetics (or "non-mimetics"), that is to say, Hymns 1, 3 and 4, whose possibility of performance, specially the cultic type, has been generally discarded by traditional criticism. In them, however, it is possible to find not only marks of orality and performance, but also the presence of Greek mythological and religious tradition closely related to the Hellenistic experience of poetic and cultic performances. We also consider the Eastern elements of the Hymns, typical of the new Egyptian scope of Greek Alexandrian culture, which have often been ignored. From the development of recent approaches to research on Hellenistic poetry and its cultural relevance, especially Callimachus’ poetry, we propose to integrate the study of archaic and classical Greek literature with Hellenistic literature, by examining Callimachus’ treatment of poetic sources; and to verify the processes of continuity and transformation in the Greek poetic tradition based on the representation of the cultural and religious context, confronting the poetic texts with testimonies of the context. We maintain the continuity from the archaic lyric to the Hellenistic poetry with the necessary adaptation to the Alexandrian environment; and the need to overcome the image of Hellenistic and Alexandrian poetry as products of a decadent stage of Greek civilization and to recover the relevance of the Alexandrian period in the aspects of poetic transmission and recomposition. We also seek to integrate Callimachus’ work with its context through the examination of testimonies and secondary sources, in an effort to overcome the vision of traditional criticism, which considers the Alexandrian poet as an isolated scholar of his time.

Ler e usar a literatura: alguns artifícios para o envolvimento do leitor / Reading and using literature: some artifices for engaging the reader

Nesta dissertação investigamos como a ficção envolve o leitor. Para isso, partimos da rejeição a Homero declarada por Calímaco, observando que a suposta diferença entre a literatura preferida pelo público e a literatura preferida pela crítica depende de dois fatores distintos. O primeiro é o simples fato de a crítica ler profissionalmente e o público ler por prazer. O segundo está relacionado à distinção entre recepção e uso da literatura proposta por C.S. Lewis. Na recepção, a obra tende a ser admirada por si; no uso, tende a ser instrumentalizada como suporte para um devaneio em que os desejos do próprio leitor são vicariamente satisfeitos. Observamos que essa devaneio, que Lewis chama de construção egoísta de castelos, e que inclui uma variante mórbida, tem um paralelo na noção girardiana do duplo angélico. Contudo, o devaneio depende da simpatia como definida por Adam Smith, a qual por sua vez depende de certa aprovação moral. Investigamos portanto o tipo de personagem que conquista a aprovação moral do leitor, contrastando os heróis homéricos com os cavaleiros cristãos a fim de verificar como o cristianismo dirige a aprovação moral para as vítimas, fazendo com que os heróis da ficção sejam pessoas perseguidas ou marginalizadas. / In this dissertation we investigate how fiction involves the reader. Starting Callimachuss rejection of Homer, we note that the supposed diference between the literature favoured by the public at large and the literature preferred by critics is actually twofold. First, critics read for business and the public reads for pleasure. Second, as proposed by C.S. Lewis, there is a distinction between the reception and use of literature. In reception, a work tends to be admired in itself, whereas in use it becomes a mere support for a sort of daydreaming in which the readers own desires are vicariously satisfied. We discuss this daydreaming called egotistic castle-building by Lewis, highlighting its morbid variant, which finds a parallel in the Girardian notion of the angelic double, developed from a reading of Proust. Now, as egotistic castle-building in its turn depends on sympathy as defined by Adam Smith, a concept which includes moral approval, we investigate the types of characters who obtain the moral approval of readers, contrasting the warriors from Homers poems with Christian knights in order to show that Christianity directs moral approval towards the victims. In a Christian society, fictional heroes must be people who are persecuted or at least marginalised.
